Loved the update Thank you for doing this. Vacation out there ever year for 44 years now. Was hoping to see Four Winds resort which is across the street from the Publix ...maybe next time your out there??
Great video and drone birds eye views! Mercy. Siesta got flooded as well, but I drove thru the south end well after water receded and furniture galore out on road for garbage pick up. 10+ high sand piles have been scraped together in the Turtle Beach parking lot. We faired much better than so many more northern coastal cities but still a mess here and mercy...all those Search & Rescue trucks were/are a scary sight!
My brother had a brand new house built In Nakomis in the Venice area. He is ready to sell and get out. He left Monterey Bay, California for FL during Covid. He is ready to go back to Carmel by the sea, CA. He has had enough and looking to sell and get out. He said he misses the Pacific Ocean and the Mediterranean climate.
@@DroneCaptain the LBK mayor has recently said “ we have lost our beach”? Do you know what that means. Other beaches are opening in Sarasota area? We know no one there to ask and are very worried now?
I'm thinking about getting out to. Getting to old for the prep & clean up. States also becoming way to expensive, insurance just keeps going up & up every year.
Wouldn’t be surprised to see a mass exodus out of Florida over the next few years. Who wants to deal with this every year or so as insurance companies are pulling out and prices double or triple every year. Property taxes and HOA fees are insane, some of the worst in the country. It’s extremely overcrowded now because of all the Northerners who flooded the State. Florida has changed and gone downhill completely over the last few years, and I say this as 30 year resident.
Absolutely correct on that. We left SRQ in 2022 after living there 46 years. Moved 1 week before Hurricane Ian hit. We'll visit, but you're right. The magic of old Florida is gone.
I got out two years ago after having lived there 40 years. Moved and stayed due to family (parents). Hated every moment of it except for the small number of days where it wasn't disgustingly humid and hot. People who vacation in January-February haven't got a clue as to how awful the weather is.
Moved out of Florida over a year ago with mixed emotions. I really saw it going down the tubes after Covid-19. I liked Florida but it became overwhelming with Population explosion and the cost of insurance. The average homeowner is on Tilt Bro.
Definitely a sad situation, but truth be told most of the businesses will be back and running within a few weeks, most others a month to 6 weeks. Some houses lost completely, but many will be repaired and homeowners back in a few weeks . Been coming here for over 50 years, thought about buying but then the prices skyrocketed after covid subsided they figured they could raise prices 30-40%, sooner or later that will bite price gougers in the A**, now after assessing the situation with insurance companies refusing to pay based on some off the wall criteria, and of course the last couple of brutal storms to hit .....unfortunately will always only be a place to visit for myself. Besides the magic of the 70's, 80's is gone for me here now, price gouging, overcrowding . Still beautiful though and will always hold a special place in my heart.
Thanks for not making remarks along the way. We who live in the area or visit the area don't need someone making remarks. I can see where you are, not that I don't know every side street off Gulf Blvd.
@@williamm6514 ah I'm sorry, I wish I could have filmed more, if the water wasn't so deep in St Armands I would have left in the morning and might have gone all the way up to Anna Maria
All that water is supposed to be there, they built in the Gulf of Mexico and not on dry land. I am 20 miles from the Gulf and my place got no water. If you want to build a house in the Gulf, that's your choice.
They didnt build in the gulf of Mexico. That land is dry during normal conditions. If the gulf was supposed to be there it would stay there. Hasnt come up like that in at least 50 years. Stop spouting nonsense. I agree that its overpopulated.
@@TheRubiconRacer the water being there is not an anomaly it is normal. The water will recede and will come back again and again, you may consider that nonsense but it is factual reality, just as there are two genders not infinite genders. The high water line defines the parameters of the Gulf and those buildings are within the high water line, are they not. You can disagree with me as to the boundaries of the Gulf, but the gulf will define its own boundaries as it did. They will clean up and rebuild and this will happen again, now that to me is the definition of nonsense.
@@theone4929 I agree with the genders part but the normal gulf level is where its been for the last forever. That is where its supposed to be. IF it weren't it would be at a constant state over the barrier islands. Of course the gulf will decide where it goes but for the last however long we have been keeping records and living here the islands have been dry unless there is a anomaly such as a storm that drives water over them which believe it or not doesnt happen to often. At least as far as surge is concerned.
@@TheRubiconRacer thanks for your response, the way I see it: the water level of the gulf varies and my concern is the upper limit of the gulfs water level, when I'm fishing the mangroves I worry about its lower limits, my position is to assess the upper possible limits, which can easily be done to include surges, and only build permanent structures perhaps an additional half mile further inland to account for variance. If that were done loss of property and life would be avoided. Our engineering capabilities are phenomenal so let's utilize them. Now that doesn't come cheap and may not be available to everyone because of cost. And as you addressed correctly, it's too overpopulated.
The upper limit is called a flood zone of the Gulf of Mexico. Lido Key is literally in the Gulf of Mexico. The Gulf will eventually reclaim it. If it wasn't for beach replenishment, there wouldn't be a beach. St. Armonds Circke is actually man made.
