My 88 year old grandmother lost the house her father built 50 years ago. Everything other than a few pictures left hanging high enough on the walls, is gone. My thoughts are with everyone that was affected.
Thank you for taking the time to make this video I’ve been coming down there since I was 18 and now I’m 65. I’m devastated by what I’m seeing my sister and brother-in-law and a condo in this area. It’s also sad and devastating.
Thank you so much for sharing. We live at Bridgeport and we’re able to get on after they open the manatee bridge. We were blessed to have one of the enforcement officers on a mote bring us to Bridgeport so I could get my medicine. He waited and brought us back to our car. God give strength to those who are dealing with this devastation. I when we got to Condo I was in the state of shock and now watching your video I can see why at 83. It’s hard to even fathom the devastation. Your emotions are all over the place again thank you for sharing the video. God bless.

This is absolutely heartbreaking! Our Happy Place took a MAJOR hit. They will recover but it will take a lot of time. AMI STRONG - we have you covered in prayer.
Sarasota native here, started school at Anna Maria Island Elementary, I’m 42 and this is the first time we’ve been hit like this. Siesta Key and Lido Key are in the same condition. There is a lot that needs to be said about building responsibly, but right now, we just need to work together to recover. So many people lost their livelihood and we all know how it’s going to be with the insurance companies. I’m really grateful for the leadership we have right now though. Closing the islands to tourists and establishing the curfew was the right thing to do. It’s going to be a tough season, but we all know the tourists will be back the first chance they get. It will keep snowing up north and people will keep coming to Florida. Please, if you don’t live here, don’t come here right now. Unlike North Carolina and Tennessee, we have disaster infrastructure in place, the most helpful thing right now is staying out of the way. Even if you live here, don’t go out to the keys to gawk, if you need to see what’s happening, you can come onto UA-cam. If you need to go to the beach, go down to Venice.
Thank you so very much for posting this video. My husband and I got married at the Beachhouse, and our wedding party stayed at Bridgewalk, so it was heartbreaking to see so much damage. We were planning to return in November, so I am glad we decided to put it on hold - but we will be back on your beautiful island as soon as they are up and running. Prayers for everyone still dealing with this devastation now and for months to come. AMI Strong!
My wife and I honeymooned on longboat boat and anna maria island decades ago and we came back every year for 2 weeks and sometimes longer. We had actually talked seriously about moving to the anna maria island area 😢😢😢😢😢
My dad's house was on the corner of Gulf and 73rd St. The house was built in 1958 and they added an upstairs. I hope it survived. Anna Maria is my favorite place in the world!

@@realtorkenjones - thank you so much! We live in West Bradenton and only had vegetation debris from the storm. It's shocking to see the devastation only 3-5 miles away from us (Cortez and AMI). Our hearts break a little more with each photo and video we see. I know AMI will recover, but this was a major hit.
Hi Ken, Thank you for sharing this along with your helpful narrative. Those sand piles lining the street also reminded me of the large snow piles from my old hometown of Philly.
It's amazing the power of wind and water and sand unfortunately I've been here 13 years that storm surge absolutely destroyed Bradenton Beach and for that matter it destroyed the island this is a really good video buddy to document exactly what can happen😮😢❤ at about 24 minutes into your video I'm working at the greenhouse with the blue awning what a mess so many houses are either destroyed from the inside or there destroyed on the outside as well very sad what an absolutely beautiful place destroyed thanks for this video buddy
I’m in Vero Beach, 7 miles inland, 31 feet above sea level. I’ve been in my home for 30 years. I’ve never seen water in my backyard like this before! I’ve got an acre. The water came within 10 feet of my pool! Yes, I was very concerned about it, and said a few prayers. I’m sorry for everyone who is suffering from the storms. Praying for y’all.🙏🏼🥺🙏🏼🕊️🙏🏼
Thanks for sharing. Lived in Bradenton until 2017 off of 82nd street and Cortez (for 25 years). Moved up to the Panhandle 25 minutes east of Perry. We were told 2-3 weeks before power is restored. My brothers friend owns a condo on Bradenton Beach about three blocks down from Bradenton Beach PD. Thanks for the video. I am still in awe. Spent much time and many years on Anna Maria. In the near end of your video, was that building Gulf Drive Cafe? Remember eating some great food there. Prayers to everyone.
It's going to be a long time before the area recovers. The cleanup effort is monumental. Before they can even start the process of rebuilding, removing all the sand and debris along with all the ruined contents of all the buildings is overwhelming... very sad
Oh but how we love LBK, & Anna Maria areas. I hope all of you who see this video can visit & enjoy these areas in the future. No shopping is ever needed unless you care to do so.. Just admire the wonder of God’s earth here ! Hoping its beauty can be returned in the future for others to also enjoy !!!
Thank you for the update. From a Local, I appreciate. Moved from LBK last Feb, ad I am so sad to see such a Beautiful set of barrier islands destroyed.
Thanks for sharing. Our family was just there 5 days before it hit. And actually the footage you did at Oyster Bar is the *exact* seats we ate at ! And the shops with the hurricane shutters/fence is one that I found my favorite women’s items. Was happy she did that. She said she’s been living on island 25 years. Smart lady Regine
Thank you for this video, it's the first footage I have seen since the hurricane hit. It is devastating i lived there for 10 years and walked all of it many times. Unfortunately by the time it's all done I'll no longer be able to enjoy it. Thanks again.
This is from a Cat 4 that was over 150 miles, the eye, off shore. Can you imagine if they had a direct hit. All the first floor houses and condos, need to be rebuilt on stilts.

Thank you. I’ve been looking for a video with Tradewinds Beach Resort. My family has spent many vacations there. I got a little glimpse at the end. Looks like the cottages might be intact. If you do another video would you try to walk down their road? Sorry. I’m greedy.

I live in Bradenton and on the river. Luckily we only got about 2 feet of water over the dock and into the back yard...nothing in the hosue. Very very lucky. Tragic what has happened to the island. The island has really changed from a local destination to almost strictly a tourist destination over the years. The traffic to get in and off the island is horrific. Its faster to get their by boat from our house than it is via a vehicle. Really hate to see what the island will become since this destroyed virtually every single story house out there, which kept any old town Florida charm that was left. The traffic to ge there is terrible...the parking is even worse when you can get out there...and its turned from a quite place locals use to go to just a place everyone else comes to. Progress I guess. I hope everyone who wants to rebuild is able too. I just watched the spill on 60 minutes where all the insurance companies were refusing to pay. Homes that had 250k to 500k in damages were cutting checks for $9k to 15K and saying, "Come sue me." Says Florida opened a criminal investigation two years ago on many insurance companies but have yet to file a single charge in two years. The insurance compaines were keeping the adjusters name and license numbers on the adjustments but deleting all the damages there were noted. Complete fraud on the consumer. Doubt politicians will do a damn thing about it. Don't expect these people who lost everything to get paid by the insurance companies. There are already law suits going on and there are already criminal charges for fraud and still nothing is being done. You get rammed by the hurricane and then bent over by your insurance company and then ram rodded by your politicians. Watch...they will all come out and talk about the tragedy but won't lift a finger to make sure you get paid by your insurance companies.
@@Christine-or3lm As you will find out shortly, they all should be avoided due to their low elevation and complications when they flood out. Wait until Milton hits and you tell me which one you’d live on. If it lives up to storm surge predictions, all these barrier islands are going to be slammed. It’s always nice until it isn’t. But then again, if you have the capital to fund occasional rebuilding out of pocket, I say go for it. Insurance is expensive and they will lie and deny to avoid paying a claim.
It is very sad. Can you clean the sand and put it back on the beach and build a frontal dune and plant it with sand binding plants...at least s top some waves /storm surge coming in..Ken
It’s the exact same thing that happened to Fort Myers beach, they put the fake reefs off the beach for several reasons which has now caused a new problem which is that, all that sand comes ashore during storms and it’s increased damage and clean up by many fold. Zero fore thought. Another half baked green new deal feel good “fix” causing it’s usual 2-3x more major problems that needs to be fixed (another $500 million)
