Thank you for choosing one of our knives on your list of this year's best, Aaron. The campero is a knife that we have many memories of for being one of our first designs in collaboration with Joker. Thank you very much and Merry Christmas to all.
I've been a Joker knife advocate for a few years now for all the reasons Aaron outlines here. If you want a good, reliable camping/hiking fixed blade there are a number of Joker blades that will fill the void for you. Great value and quality for their price point. Check out their catalogue and pick one that meets your specific requirements. Sharp blades all.
Cold Steel XL Voyager Vaquero fully serrated is my most recent acquisition, and it's the best self defense blade I've had. I added the snaggletooth wave opener for quick deployment. I was unsure initially how it would feel/work. But after a few months of carrying it, several chicken cut tests, and stabbing through heavy clothing, I'm astounded how great of a tool it is. It almost effortlessly stabs through 6 layers of medium weight denim. I was happily surprised. Quite frankly it's frightening. One could very easily cut someone to the bone with one good swipe. And Lansky makes a specific Cold Steel serration sharpener for it, so no worries about maintaining it.
Been carrying the vaquero xl for over 6 years. I also have the serrated aus10 model. It is by far the best self-defense blade I've ever found. I also have a voyager xl tanto that is a close second. In my back pocket I carry a broken skull for the random cutting task.
@@richardhenry1969 my normal EDC is a CS Recon 1 spear point, which I have found to be one of the best overall large folders. When I'm working a Leatherman Wave is on my belt. The Vaquero is for when I can't, or don't want to have my sidearm on me. Cheers
@@stevenstroupe3805 yeah it works well, it has one less hump for the CS serrations than the knives do, but it's not a big deal. And can be found for under $15USD, cheers
For a smaller scale Szabo from TOPS, check out the MIL-SPIE 3 fixed blade. It isn't a Szabo, but it has very similar lines and features in a more compact size with a 3.5" blade.
I will not lie, I did not see the Brush Wolf coming. Its design is a little out there, but the footage doesn't lie, it looks like a real performer. I'll have to give it a look. Great videos this year Aaron! I'm excited to see what happens next!
Any chance we will see a "best knives of the decade" type of video? It's easy to become enamored with shiny new stuff, but I wonder how your new choices stand up to old ones? I'm one of the folks that ordered a Lionsteel T5 (using your affiliate link) and have been blown away by it. Maybe a 5 knives video or something similar would be a good idea? Love the channel and the info you provide. 😀
The joker campero is THE good surprise of the year. I've taken the carbon steel blade, it is a scalpel for a surgeon. It's easy to resharpen, the sheath is great. It is really a greatknife. The nomad is really good too, but i have not the same connection with it , than with the campero. Thank you for the great videos you make and i wish you the best for 2023
I love watching and learning all the pros and cons on all the fixed blades..I just bought a Artisan Cutlary Sea Snake fixed blade I put this knife on my rotation as one of my every day carry knifes..
Love to see you review a Helle Nord & Lappland Leuku , and Marttiini Ranger 250 & Tundra. To see if the Scandinavian's Stainless Steel's can complete with the traditional usa 1095HC outdoor knives.
Thanks Aaron, you’ve got to check out TKell knives. Tim is a Marine Vet makes all his own blades, has excellent sheaths and edc options; and is all around good guy!
The Tops Brush Wolf is the best knife I've ever handled. I wasn't sure how I would feel about the more narrow grip, but after getting work done with it I understand it's purposeful design. With a two finger pinch grip at the very bottom, the heavy front-end design of the nessmuk, and a solid understanding on how to generate a good whipping motion. You can generate an incredible amount of torque at the end of your swing with this thing.
Tops Silent Hero 4 has been my own personal best mid-sized fixed blade. It's just an amazing knife. The Tops original full sized Silent Hero has been my favorite full-sized blade for a while now. There's just a "mythical" allure to these blades that call to my soul! (feeling a bit dramatically poetic today).
My favorite knife I've used this year isn't really anything new...the Esee 3 in S35VN steel & 3D G10 handles. It's my edc fixed blade, and I just adore it. I replaced the metal belt clip with a Tek-Lok.
I bought a Campero based on your recommendation and I was blown away with the knife with how well it was constructed and finished. My only complaint was it was so sharp I slide it into the sheave and it cut right through it. Super super great deal though
@@gideonstactical I will for sure. I boughtbit off Amazon so wasnt sure if they would cover it. I bought the Lionsteel T5 also after your review. Love that knife as well. I watch alot of your review and trust them as unbiased and fair
Joker is one of the most underrated knife makers out there right now. It’s impossible to beat what you get for the price. I have many Joker knives and have never regretted a purchase.
Speaking of Esee they are not on any of the year end lists. They haven’t come up with anything new and different in several years. They need to step up and get back in the game.
Ah, if it ain't broke don't fix it. Nothing wrong with their stuff, and they've been staying in their lane for years. Their warranty alone earns them my business
It has been discussed at great lengths other places, and it comes back to one main issue: production capacity. They don't have the capacity to keep up with demand of their current models, so they aren't focusing too much on new models or variations of existing models.
I have to agree with all comments here. On the one hand: you can't mess with their warranty. It's the best in the business and they definitely stand by their products which I think we can all agree are top-tier quality. On the other hand it would be nice to see some new models or at least some revamps of old classics. I'd like to see the esee-3 do away with the finger choil. I think it's unnecessary for blade that size. Just make it a 3.875 in blade with a 3.75/3.625 cutting edge. I'd also like to see a MIL version of the esee-4 with a glass breaker pommel. Or how about a more robust model in their camp-lore series? Make it a bolo-esque style blade, with some serrations near the guard (usually a plain edge guy) 7/7.5 inch blade, .19 inches thick. Or maybe a sized-down laser strike. I can't argue with that they have classic products but customers like something new to look forward to as the seasons pass
@@Thunderofdragons ESEE’s warranty isn’t the best in the business but it’s still solid especially when compared to the other companies in this industry. BRK’s actually has the best warranty in the business because they have the same unconditional lifetime warranty for the knives but they also warranty the sheaths whereas ESEE doesn’t. 👍
It’s easy to see that a lot of time, effort, dedication and commitment went into producing this video and you should know it has not gone unappreciated. Well done, Sir. 👌🏼🙏🏼
Absolutely agree 100% about the Brush Wolf. Aaron and Nate did a stellar job on it and I am stoked to try out the Solidago when it gets released! Definitely believe you should give the TOPS Camp Creek Fire Edition a look. I always liked the OG version, but the Fire Edition has a significantly better handle and the blade design makes for a great all-around knife good for more than just skinning
Hey, Gideon... For my four kids this Christmas, I've purchased seven new blades for them. Three of the knives I bought for them were directly at your recommendations/reviews. One of the knives I purchased was the CONDOR SKIRMISH. I would greatly appreciate your review/opinion on that knife as to where it belongs in it's application (if any.) To me, it seems to be a budget-friendly do-all knife that tries to lean toward "camp kitchen" while still being somewhat of a kindling splitter and survival knife. Thanks in advance if that sparks your interest.
I got the joker Pantera last year and it is a perfect hunting knife. You should do a review of it as well. Highly recommend it to anyone that enjoys hunting
Umm let me correct you sir, the Lionsteel M7 definitely does not have a 90deg spine is actually has a nicely rounded over spine which is what makes Italian made knives look so nicely finished yet that round over does still somehow scrape a fero rod quite well it should be mentioned as it is absolutely amazing that they're able to do this!
i have been using the Demko Free Reign and so far i love it. the knife came screaming sharp and has held a good edge. i hope it continues to wow me as i continue to put it to the test.
The Campero is an awesome choice. The Lionsteel is just a beast. The Szabo is another awesome choice, it's a Tops nuff said. The overland is a cool design and awesome steel. The Power Eagle is one of those just beastly blades Tops excels at to me. The Reife knives f-4 would to me be also an EDC choice as withe tall shirts I can carry under a tshirt. The Brush Wolf is an interesting design and would be fun to have to sharpen your skills, i.e. play with. Love em all and enjoyed watching you use them this year.
I’d love the nessmuk from Joker if it was a tad longer, that’d up it’s versatility for me. 5” blades are just inherently more natural to me, mostly because I grew up using those
Great job reviewing Aaron! Thanks to your reviews on joker knives I just realized the new mora ashwood line is pretty much Helle and Joker knives with a higher price. Keep up the good work bro! Love the channel!
Great show mate. We use Ka-Bar & Fox bushcraft knives with our primary being Hultafords. All with different grind & edges and cuts like a knife.! Cheers for the greetings & same to you too. Hope the festive season will bring more knives to your show. Warm greetings from Australia.
Best time of the year! Great list of knives. I love my brush wolf…..and would love to have one of all the others on this list. Have a happy holiday my friend. God Bless
Very curious about the Winkler. They are expensive where I live. Good choices for your best knives. I have good experiences with Spanish knives. Joker but also Muella.
Thanks for this, Aaron. Definitely looking forward to some of the upcoming reviews. The best NEW fixed blade experience I had this year was the Ruike Jager. It got sidelined for a while, because the handle was too small for extended use, but I put a simple paracord wrap over the handle and it's a whole different animal. Now it gets a lot of use as a round-the-house EDC and as a hiking/camping belt knife, but it also regularly gets thrown into whatever bag I'm carrying as a super-compact survival tool.
G'day again Charles, last time I looked the Jager was the only fixy under the Ruike brand, and in 14C28N if I remember rightly. And having a win with a couple of their folders, especially the P105 Fang, I was tempted, though as you say the handle for a decent sized mitt did appear inadequate, so certainly understandable to apply a para wrap. Cant remember if the scales are removable ? I do have the means to whack some more substantial redgum ones on. If you dont mind my asking, what did you pay in USD ? Btw; have you ever used "Wison wrap" ? I'm seriously considering it for my BK-9 and 22 in. tramo, to save replacement altogether, then maybe the Condor Bushcraft Parang, (molded handle), depending on how it goes with the others. Cheers Duke.
@@eyeofthetiger4184 hey Duke, I think I got it for about $60 USD, maybe less at the time. It's one of two fixed blade models they have, and I definitely recommend the other - the Hornet. It's a necker or small belt knife with G-10 scales, all skeletonized. Comes in black and Orange. Anyway, the scales are removable on the Hornet, but that would make the handle smaller, even if you then wrap it. I've used Wilson wrap and another brand of tape for wrapping cricket bat handles. They provide lots of cushion, but I personally prefer the durability and flexibility of the paracord.
@@charlescollier7217 Thanks for the info Charles, about time I looked at the Ruike line up again. Cricket bat handles eh, thats interesting, right up my alley but didnt think of it.
@@charlescollier7217 Having looked at both the Jager and Hornet, I note; they come with tech lock type clips, .... I've been looking for something to carry horizontally; my Steel Will Darkangel 900 does come with this option, but its a bit large for "scout carry" for my liking. Btw; Personally, I dont do neck knives, simply because I always have a compass and/or compact binocs in that position. On both, the scales can replaced with custom aussie redgum, (not the hardest timber on the planet, but certainly up there); comes up a treat with boiled linseed oil too. And 14C fixies for the price here in AUD, ........ very compelling. Many thanks again for the info mate.
@@eyeofthetiger4184 Only too happy to share. I've LOVED using the Hornet - I honestly think it's one of the best small fixed blades under $100 USD. And yes, there are lots of options for carrying it.
Rocking the Corporal Kelly camp and trail knife from the Pathfinder Knife Shop. My fav so far. Tops Baja 3.0 I think will be my next smaller edc knife. Thank you for today's upload 🔥
Excellent in depth commentary & selection of both categories and blades! Had previously decided: No more knive subscriptions! Almost made it through the video without giving in: But NOT! Thank you, J
Here's a couple budget knives I'm interested in I thought I'd mention and maybe see them in a future video (or if you have already done any, plz leave the link ty) Jeo-Tec no39, ifield el29117, Eafengrow 143 or 148, Cudeman Sanabria For a mid to higher end the puma ip kodiak
I totally agree with the Joker knives. Great quality for price. Would still like to see a review on the Wolfgangs Lupus knive from Germany. Has the same quality and price value as the Joker knives. Wish you a great Christmas time and God bless. Greetings from Germany.
I've been loving the TOPS Silent Hero 4 that I picked up after your review this year. Not surprised it didn't make this list with all the other amazing options you have to play with but damn it if it isn't my favorite fixed blade. I take it out more than the Lion Steel T5. Can't wait to see what you bring us in 2023!
My best knife tested this year has been a condor mini bushlore, WICKED sharp and easily maintained that way, best EDC/Bushcraft knife I've owned, and I've owned a slew of them, everything from the benchmade Bushcraft to the mora garberg and pretty much everything in between. I did have to modify the handle considerably and the walnut handle was a low grade and took a bit of smoothing out but the size is perfect for just about anything except large batoning, of course I'm a bit partial to 1075 steel because of it's almost indestructibility especially after spending time with indigenous people in the Amazon and seeing how much abuse their 1070 & 1075 machetes are used and abused, can't believe this little thing only cost me $40!
I have the condor mini bushlore too and mine came with a pin on the handle that is not flush. I also find the handle a bit short. But it is a nice looking knife for the money. I have had mine for several years though. Just wish the handle was a bit longer.
My most anticipated video’s of the year...Thanks Agian. Am I seeing a “Best of the Best” video of the Decade coming? That would be Top all your videos for me...Just Say’n
I am a licensed Ham Radio operator, and those Walkie Talkies, are interesting at best. That test you did across the lake, was under what we call Ideal conditions, with nothing blocking the signal. My 5 watt HT would do the same thing. I'm not knocking them, but the price is a bit on the steep side.
Just found you, and oddly, just traded some camping gear for a Eggen H3LS knife (I just thought it was interesting looking and I was drawn to it without knowing anything about it). I'm interested to see your thoughts. IMO it's just a beautiful bit of craftsmanship. I am not sure it's the right knife for survival/bushcrafting, but then again, maybe it is.
I've seen a lot of your videos so could have missed it. But have you tried the Holtzman Bloodline? I just put it through the most abusive summer it could have had and it made it through like a champ. 1095 which I like for a camp knife. 3/16 spine. Nice fat comfy G10 handle. I think you'd like it. Had to file an inch of the spine flat for a ferro but it comes with a rod and striker. Honestly liked it more than the Essee I tried to kill last summer. If you haven't yet, give one a shot. The guy runs the company in his spare time from what I've heard and he does an amazing job. Think it's a 4 1/5 or 5 inch blade. 4 inches of cutting. Definitely had a lot of batoning with just a nub sticking out. But such a comfortable carry. I just do a tip up on my hip and barely notice it's there. Did end up locktiting the scales after my first couple nights but that fixed that issue right up.
I had emailed Joker saying it would be a good idea to do a bigger version of the Nomad and to my amazement they said we'll see it soon. So I believe we will see a Nomad Xl, I really hope so... As for the best knife I think the Brush Wolf is really the best,. Merry Christmas from Italy...
Great categories! Well thought out. And great selection of purposes, styles and brands. All the best to you and your fam and your channel for the new year 🎉
Man, those tops knives love to rust. I know it's 1095 or 1060, but I find they rust more than k bars. Even in the video yours as rust in it. Lionsteel t6 is my winner that's not on this list.
Great video always enjoy watching your reviews here from the UK! If you want to try a chopping beast would love to see you review a My Parang heavy duku chandong or their Golock 135, both chop better than my Gransfors hatchet which has now been retired. Bidor know how to heat treat their 5160 too!
In 2022 For edc it’s still hard to beat the white river backpacker pro. Fits great in hand. Take the clip off the sheath and throw it in your pocket. Can’t beat it.
@@truthhurts2149 Nice! Are you going to be using the fc 3.5 as an edc? Not that you ask but you seem like an enthusiast like myself. You should take a look at some of the Lionsteel products. Aaron, I would like to see you do a review on the Ridgeback by Off Grid Knives in 14c28n. I just got one, and it is a very impressive outdoor knife for the money.
I see you have a Demko AD20.5 folder...I hope to see that as well as his new fixed blade in upcomng reviews. Also, have you ever tested a Civivi Elementum Fixed blade? Seems like a nice EDC sized blade...D2 or VG10, Micarta, G10, or contoured/polished G10. They also have a few other interesting looking fixed blades.
For EDC and outdoor knives I prefer my Resolute MK.III. However, that wasn't introduced this year, and it's rather expensive. I still love mine, though, and am thinking of getting another
I've been trying to get a SOSPES knife in Saber grind for a few years now with no such luck! (The SOSPES is worthy of another run!) Just looking at a SOSPES makes me feel like fighting an alligator! HOW THE HECK DO I GET A SOSPES IN SABER GRIND?

Great video Aaron; I want all of these knives now, but am also looking forward to your 2023 reviews.
Great video!! Glad we made the list!
Best time of the year! Great list of knives. I love my brush wolf…..and would love to have one of all the others on this list. Have a happy holiday my friend. God Bless
Would love to see some new models from Esee. I agree with the lower comment. They need to step up their game!!!!! I'm dying here!!!!
Super dope broseph!!!!!! Super great choices!!! Glad i got to get my hands on some of those and be a part of the testing!!!!
Same here!
Very curious about the Winkler. They are expensive where I live. Good choices for your best knives. I have good experiences with Spanish knives. Joker but also Muella.
Very nice creative ideas in this video: transitions, storytelling, telling product details, etc.
That is very encouraging Paul. Thank u so Much. Merry Christmas and I hope your new year is blessed!
I see some great knives in your lineup !
My favorite for the year has been the Scar blades Papa Bear !
Merry Christmas everyone, God bless you ALL 🙂
Thanks for this, Aaron.
@@charlescollier7217 Having looked at both the Jager and Hornet, I note;
they come with tech lock type clips, ....
Thanks for the sub!
It be interesting to know the knife you would pick to go on the show “Alone”.
Good question
Never noticed that tops knife till now great video thanks 👍
Here's a couple budget knives I'm interested in I thought I'd mention and maybe see them in a future video (or if you have already done any, plz leave the link ty) Jeo-Tec no39, ifield el29117, Eafengrow 143 or 148, Cudeman Sanabria
For a mid to higher end the puma ip kodiak
Super Vid👍👍👍. The F4 ist interesting. The price ist OK for me, but I don't like convex bevels. And the blade is to thick for me.
thank you ! your year end videos are a tradition now
Awesome thanks so much!
I love the end of year fixed blade videos
Great review and explanation of the best of 2022. I'm really looking forward to your review of the seax knife.
A case an Winkler fixed blade? Whhaaaatt? Can't wait for that one my friend!!! Leather or kydex?? A merry Xmas to you an youres
I totally agree with the Joker knives. Great quality for price. Would still like to see a review on the Wolfgangs Lupus knive from Germany. Has the same quality and price value as the Joker knives. Wish you a great Christmas time and God bless. Greetings from Germany.
Great video, right to the point. SOG is definitely stepping up their fix blade game, very excited for those
The Jokers are so nice.
You just confirmed what I’ve been thinking… I’m seriously leaning towards the LionSteel M7…but am kinda torn between that and the T5…
You are such a hero to me 💓
Thanks...will be looking at the Bush Wolf...
Great knifes to highlight. Thank you
My pleasure!
Great video as always sir. More importantly... Mad respect for the Yukon Cornelius sweat shirt!! Love it.
Truly the most important question is where did you get that lighted holiday trailer. That would match the lighted truck I have. And I am serious.
Walmart $5
I had emailed Joker saying it would be a good idea to do a bigger version of the Nomad and to my amazement they said we'll see it soon. So I believe we will see a Nomad Xl, I really hope so... As for the best knife I think the Brush Wolf is really the best,. Merry Christmas from Italy...
Awesome!!! That will be excellent
Great categories! Well thought out. And great selection of purposes, styles and brands. All the best to you and your fam and your channel for the new year 🎉
Knife reccomendation for 2023 to you, Muela Gavilan cry - t steel
Man, those tops knives love to rust. I know it's 1095 or 1060, but I find they rust more than k bars. Even in the video yours as rust in it. Lionsteel t6 is my winner that's not on this list.
I agree tops do tend to rust even if you oil them up, Why they ever use a leather sheath is beyond me

What was the best back pack you tested this year (smaller size for one to two day volume). Thank you GT.
Nice review!👍 Greetings from Germany...👋😉
Great video always enjoy watching your reviews here from the UK! If you want to try a chopping beast would love to see you review a My Parang heavy duku chandong or their Golock 135, both chop better than my Gransfors hatchet which has now been retired. Bidor know how to heat treat their 5160 too!
In 2022 For edc it’s still hard to beat the white river backpacker pro. Fits great in hand. Take the clip off the sheath and throw it in your pocket. Can’t beat it.
I agree. Scored a m1 caper on amazon for 120. Just got a fc3.5 in magnacut on order.
@@truthhurts2149 Nice! Are you going to be using the fc 3.5 as an edc? Not that you ask but you seem like an enthusiast like myself. You should take a look at some of the Lionsteel products. The T5 is a great pack knife. A little big for edc for my needs but if I’m going hunting or just kicking around at the farm it’s my go to
@@adamchandler1086 yes I'm going to use it as an EDC. Will rotate it with my m1 caper I've been carrying.
great list..awesome knives
Thanks 👍
Great review. I look forward to the 2023 reviews.
You and me both!
Merry Christmas! And Happy New Year!
For EDC and outdoor knives I prefer my Resolute MK.III. However, that wasn't introduced this year, and it's rather expensive. I still love mine, though, and am thinking of getting another
It’s hard to beat the Joker knives for the price
Just got a brisa Big Muk! Can't wait to see ya review it
Unfortunately, living in the SFBA (open/carry law), especially in winter weather.
I've been trying to get a SOSPES knife in Saber grind for a few years now with no such luck!
(The SOSPES is worthy of another run!)
Just looking at a SOSPES makes me feel like fighting an alligator!
HOW THE HECK DO I GET A SOSPES IN SABER GRIND?
When Gideon's tactical speaks I listen!
Take a Look at Tanev Family Knives from Bulgaria👌 Awesome Tools
Whoo hold everything do I see Yukoon Cornelius on that hoody Awesome 👍🏻
Great video keep them coming!
Hey Aaron, I'm deploying in a few weeks.. Which knife should I bring with?
Excellent question, here is a short list of tactical/utility knives I would consider. Gerber Strongarm, SOG Pillar, Cold Steel SRK 3V steel version only, becker Bk18, TOPS HOG.
@@gideonstactical awesome! Thank you!
