Great review, Gentlemen....AGAIN! Love Hakushu 12 and 18 as well. I kept my 12yr bottle at my Son's place cross the country. Thank God he doesn't drink whiskey.
You need to add a fourth member to average Jules' "market correction". I agree that everything cannot be a "gold", but your highest award is a diamond. Everything cannot be a diamond. Maybe someday Hakushu 12 will make it to the east coast. I have no problem finding Yamazaki 12.
Is there a listing of your individual scores for each of the drams you've scored anywhere? I didn't see one on your FB page. If not, any chance you can post one? A simple spreadsheet updated once a month pinned to your FB would be great.
Agreed. Love Yamazaki 12 and Hakushu 12 for $80 but can't justify anything higher and still a Suntory fan. *Once found Y12 at Trader Joes for $80, a year ago and bought two. LOL. I assume that will NEVER happen again. Secondary market is INSANE. I have seen both as high as $200 a bottle and don't get me started on the special editions. (i.e. Sherry Cask, Mizanara Oak, etc.) Great vid!
Hmm, I know store that has one for sale for $80 right now. I also paid that price for the two i currently own. Not sure if the guy knows what he has as it is displayed in his sake and shochu section. Guess I'm making a stop on the way home.
What are your thoughts on using wine preserve/gas on whisky? Do you use it on your expensive bottles that you know you will have on your shelf for a while? or is this heresy, and would you rather opt to let the whisky air out in the bottle and change over time?
Never tried it with whisk(e)y - definitely interesting, but we tend to just let the bottles sit without anything but their original cork or screw top. Would be an interesting comparison though!
Agree with all comments here....Something is wrong with this scoring system and how it is done....Perhaps blind tests are in greater need here....For example I am willing to bet my Curiosity Public membership that some bourbons would beat out GTS 2020....thus woukd save us all a lot of money and wasted dreaming
Come on ! The way you spoke about this up and down the board (see scoring breakdown), I don't see how you would ever fork over more than $35 for this, and then you suggested you'd drop a Benjamin for it!?!? 🤦🤷
I think in this case...a Jules was definitely needed. A 78 score for Hakushu 12 is justified. Some will like it more than others. But for me, with the Yamakazi trio of Hakushu 12, Yama12 and Hibiki 12, it’s prob my third favorite. The flavor is unique...but very fragile and goes away far to quickly.
it's decent stuff like Yama 12 is but they both are like $60 to $70 whisky in how they drink and that is the difficulty with them. Better off to buy Scotch malts at $120 that destroy these and you know that already. just sayin !!! all day every day at $65. they don't warrant any more than that
OK...review of Indian...yes Indian whiskey please. Oh, and BSB was just bought out by Jamie Foxx...so another celeb bourbon to try...unless this was already done.

Jules was rough on this one…Hakushu is at least an 80 in my palette! This is why this hobby is awesome…different strokes for different folks!
The apple and pear aftertaste was so evident. Raw fruit. The floral is the signature smell of a japanese whisky.
Another great review. You guys are a hoot. How many bottles of Spirits do you guys think you have?

My favourite whisky !
Reallly looking forward to Irish whiskey taking diamond status in the ultimate spirits competition. Did someone mention a Middleton DrinkthroughTM?
We are also looking forward to that!! We're going to get more Irish whiskey into the competition! Cheers!

Well said! Yeah - a few months ago I found Yamazaki 12 in a grocery store for $80 - seemed like a price error but jumped on it!

ready to see the new Redbreast CS Small Batch review and the new Blue Spot CS 7 before St. Patty's Day
$70 is hilarious. MSRP in 2023 went up big this year now around $160-170. Suntory got greedy!

How about a drink through of the Game of thrones
The hakushu 12 got a re-release in Japan only. Elsewhere it is still a drought.
My Costco gets Yamazaki, and Hakushu once a year. Every year for the last 5 years.
Whoever the editor is (Dutch), what was the tease in the intro? What were you gents talkin about!?
For this show, I think Jules was an absolutely necessary correction factor!
1 year later sellign for USD300 in Indonesia 😁
Hidden gem because it doesn't exist at any stores :(
Not to nitpick but it’s pronounced hak-shu. The middle u is silent.

better than yama 12 on front end not finish. indeed should have barrel proof.

I really like your reviews. And I also really hate the intro/outro music. Like really, really hate it.
