Whatever weller 12 runs for, this should go for twice the price. Appreciate that this doesn’t punch people in the face, but the complex / balanced flavors match any whiskey under 18 years.
I think Dutch hits on what I’ve experienced in many Japanese whiskey like nikka coffee malt and Hibiki Harmony is that there is a delicate ness that can sometimes feel lacking if you are used to drinking cask strength whiskey but to me that subtlety is what makes it enjoyable
It was the first whisky I started to collect way back about 3 years ago when it started to get scarce. Still my favorite 12 yr. Incidentally the best whisky I have ever tasted is the Yamazaki sherry cask 2016. But at 12k per bottle now, its unlikely I'll ever get one 🤣🥃
I’m so looking forward to japan getting out of the whiskey shortage. I can’t wait to get the age stated Suntory brands like Hibiki and Yamazaki and reasonable prices again. And given the current storage I’d say the price is high but fair. If I could find Yamazaki in my area I’d snatch it up in a heartbeat at $135.
100% on board with Dilan. I bought a Springbank 10 for $100 and I ended up drinking an excellent $70 whisky. These days the Yamazaki 12 goes for $200 and you can't convince me that this bottle is the best way to spend that money on whisky.
Yama 12 is good but for $100 I can get cask strength Scotch by many companies with older age statements that destroy it. Yama 12 is a $60-ish whisky at best for what else is on the market in the malts world. Only one of you were talking sense. Good but way over priced and should be half the price it is like other Japanese whiskies that are way over priced, Yeah I,m talking to you Nikka and Chichibu . This suffers from Buffalo Trace-itis. Good but no better than stuff that is same price or cheaper.
I blind tasted Nikka Miyagikyo at $95 USD with Yamazaki 12 at $160 USD and I preferred the Nikka slightly over Yamazaki. So the bad/ugly of the Yamazaki is value.
The 12 is definitely head and shoulders above its replacement the NAS Distillers reserve. Have you guys tried it ? I was very disappointed with it in comparison.
Right, dude was losing it at ~$10/yr. Shits going for $200 on average. I wish I could find it for $135. Everything is overpriced which means nothing is overpriced. Maybe when he was younger, whiskey was cheaper but even W12 is $300 and up.
we just get ripped off of everything in the name of taxes in Aus and being an island far away from things doesn’t help either. When people winch about $100 or some for these. I always think to myself. These dudes will kill themselves if they were in Aus lol
I agree with Dillon completely on the value. It was a mind blowing value at $35 before the awards. At $120+ this bottle is all suntory Japanese whiskey hype and not close to a good value.
One of the biggest problem with whisky these days is not letting the market determine the price. Let demand and supply set the price so stuff is on the shelf!
@@CuriosityPublic idk if it’s because it’s a little corner store and they mark it up a lot. I am in south Florida. Don’t know if that has anything to do with it also.
Well, the price is not the one you paid in the stores, the MSRP is not 120, 130, neither 200 dollars and you guys know it. Dont blame santury for what the stores sold it to the public .
One of my favorites. Worthy of a gold. But I think the 18 is phenomenal. Hope you guys review it at some point.

Looking forward to the Hakushu review

I spent $150 for my bottle. Found it at my Binnys around the holidays. Sipped half over a couple nights but saving the rest for a special occasion.

I found a bottle half off last week in VA. Around $65 with tax. I’m a fan. Probably never find that price again.
Wow! Great price!
Wow!!!
That is a steal these days. Amazing. Cheers.
In Virginia Beach ?

Would love to see hibiki harmony on the ultimate spirits competition some day
It's coming soon...
A good whisky though I prefer Nikka 10. However, Yamazaki 18 is stunning.
Ahh this where y'all are... I was wondering why I hadn't seen a new episode of The Bourbon Guild, glad I stumble on the new channel(?)...

Yeah right.. fast forward few years and now they go for way over what you dreamt of hahahaha

what would be a good priced japanese whiskey that's $50-100 that's actually value? Yamazaki 12 is impossible to find in my area anyways.
The 12 is definitely head and shoulders above its replacement the NAS Distillers reserve. Have you guys tried it ? I was very disappointed with it in comparison.
Jules with his Christopher Columbus reference hahaha loved it
If you think $130 is bad, try $450 Australian, which is (after the conversion) is 2.5 times more expensive.

Mate, I total agree with you. Aussie market is all over the places with Japanese whisky. Way overly priced.

I found one of these in the wild for retail price just today!!!! 10/11/22.
Arm flail ending was pure gold
I like your channel guys, but I much prefer this opening song to the other one you use. I look forward to hearing this song. 80s goodness 😎
I've never had it, I really want to try it but its 179 here !
Where’s the butcher of Bakersfield?
I read that he moved to Germany
"Call me christopher Columbus" 👌

Shitting out diamonds left & right hilarious! Hate to agree with Dillan great @ the $60-$80 range. Ok @ the $130 price point
Lol finish.... finished my drink!! :))
Holy shit! How long have you guys been back???
Got the Hibiki harmony and they have 2 boxes of the Yamazaki 12 and they are selling it for $240. Is it worth it?
That's about twice what we would pay for the Yamazaki.

It's crazy how much the price can vary for this bottle. I got it recently for $125 at non chain liquor store
Easy sipping

$175 in 2024 at my liquor store
so no one had the same taste sensations? there must be some consistency in the flavour and finish. imo this is an overpriced fashionable whisky
Glenlivet 18 would beat the crap out of this for the similar price point.
