Walmart also has a larger version I use to Kando-file clothes in my closet (I don't have a dresser or drawers) only $5.78, love them! Mainstays Plastic Utility Storage Organizer Bin, Clear, 15" x 10" x 9.5"
@@jardelynehansen this is helpful to know!!’ Thank you!!!
Where did you get that cute top? You look great!
@@shutterbuged1 thank you so much, it’s from the Anne Taylor Factory Store this past fall ❤️
OK, so I have no idea what video it was, but you did a video that you interviewed John Delaney and I had never heard of him before and I tell you, I am so incredibly thankful that you did. Since seeing that episode, I downloaded his books via audible, and it is just absolutely Life-changing. Thank you.
My husband just decluttered his clothes! It was a literal miracle! After 3 years of embracing minimalism and here he is finally decluttering decades of clothes he refused to go through just in case 😂 oh my
It happened here too!
I sure wish my husband would declutter his stuff!
I’ve found that saying “I can’t close your t shirt drawer, can we let these 5 faded shirts go?” Or some other container-related concept works well without a fight bc it’s non emotional
My husband is a total convert! He calls himself the minimal dad now!! Not quite but he’s getting there!
Wow, so happy for you both! I am in my 4th year and my husband is not there yet... I will not push but silently model minimalism for him to feel it. I know one day he will get there too!
Containers make my heart happy. There’s not many things better than opening a drawer or cabinet that is organized. Makes me feel relaxed and accomplished.
Agreed!!!❤❤❤
Yes!
I love watching your channel. I am a Grammy in a small house. Still today, I put everything from flour to crackers in containers. I love the aesthetics of seeing everything organized.
when moving food from a box to a container for better storage, if they have cooking or mixing recipes on the box, I cut this out and tape it to the container to store in your cupboard or pantry.
Similar! I always cut out the label and expiration date so I know how old the item is and where it came from.
We would play house under the pine trees at recess and use the pine branches as a broom to sweep the floor.
Perfect minimalist house. No stuff. 😂
You know in a lot of countries they still use dried branches as brooms.
I would pretend I was camping under our Evergreen Fir trees that were "Old Growth". I used to picture myself carving a home out of one as a 5 yo in Washington State, ha.
We would gather the pine straw into straight lines and that would create “walls” for the rooms in our houses. We played that at recess in the fall and even warmer months. It was such fun!❤
I did that too! Branch brooms and leaf walls. We couldn't wait for recess to continue our house.😊
When we had our kitchen renovated, the cabinet company was unable to put pullouts in our pantry cabinet due to its narrowness. The shelve are 11" wide and 23" deep so it was impossible to see or reach food at the back. Enter Walmart and their clear XL storage bins. They were the perfect size to fit the cabinet, at 20" long they reach almost all the way to the back and slide out easily so I can pretend I have built-in pullouts!
I have a similar challenge. Great idea!
I agree that Marie Kondo's book really stands out in a very (ironically) crowded field of decluttering books. Too many people, in simplifying her message actually missed a lot of the nuance found in her slim volume. It is worth a read for sure. That book kicked off my decluttering journey in a whole different way years ago and while I still feel like I can do more, I know that I wouldn't have come this far without having read her book.
I agree completely! Her method of gathering things from all over the house, like all the books, or all the clothes, and seeing the volume was "life changing" for me. It is easy to not realize how much of something you have until you see it all piled up! I know, Dana's method works for many, but for me, Marie Kondo's method is what I needed!
Agreed it was so well thought out. I used to read decluttering books before the three ladies Dana, Dawn and Cas. And I deemed books BK (before Konmari) and AK (after Konmari)
On the other hand, for me her method doesn't work at all. ADHD attention span, all I'd see is a pile of say books out and then I'd get anxiety paralysis over trying to figure out what to do with them, then I'd get distracted by something else (like finding a book I want to re-read and forgetting about the pile) and all of a sudden that pile is still there 3 week later causing me more anxiety because it's "cluttered". I felt like a massive failure because everyone was saying it was THE WAY to declutter and I couldn't manage it.
Finding Cas, which led to me finding Dawn and Diane is what finally got me to figure out a method that works for me (combined with some advice from Mack from Magic Cleaning) and I finally got 17 trash bags of garbage (broken stuff, missing pieces, etc, stuff that no one would want) and 4 full sized SUV's full of donations out the door in a 2 week period.
A great read!
Well said! I listened to the audio version several times while starting my decluttering.
Just wanted to add, I noticed you had rolls of shelf liner sort of standing/leaning in a rectangular multi-purpose bin. I put my rolls of shelf liner and other rolls of things in a tall round plastic waste basket. I find that when I match round with round, such as jars/bottles on a lazy susan or yarn/tennis balls/spherical things in a round basket, it makes a huge difference and makes organizing those things so much easier.
Tip for your brown sugar... put a jumbo marshmallow or a couple of the regular sized ones in the container. It keeps the brown sugar soft.
or even a piece of bread works too. I also have seen the little terra cotta discs too for brown sugar. :)
@@sarahvp2003 the little terra cotta discs never worked for me. You have to soak them in water and then constantly remember to keep it wet.
@@sarahvp2003 - I like the little terra-cotta thing in my brown sugar container. Every time I use brown sugar, I put several drops of water on top of it, so it never dries out.
@@sarahvp2003. I’ve been struggling with this since moving to Nevada. I put a slice of bread in…the brown sugar didn’t completely dry out, but the bread grew mold! Yuck!
I think marshmallows might work better. (Or the terra cotta thing.)
I leave my brown sugar in the plastic package it comes in, and store it in a sealed container. I tightly close the plastic bag after each use with a rubber band and it doesn’t get hard. I keep my flours and sugars in the fridge though so maybe that makes a difference as well.
Was just speaking with my husband and we have a 1700 sq ft home in a neighborhood. We have about 3 acres it sits on. We both would love about 20 acres and so we were discussing how that would look. It was so thrilling and exciting to know I would be completely fine with so little. A small home with little inventory. Not worrying about having the biggest house with all the greatest furnishings. We have a toddler and another on the way and it’s so nice to never feel that our house is closing in on us. I’m constantly decluttering and I appreciate all your videos. Thank you! Thank you for showing me that joy is not in the items but in the memories and experiences with my family.
Marie Kondo’s method saved me when it came to finally tackling my basement clutter. It was just so overwhelming, so I finally realized that if I break it into categories, then it would be so much easier to accomplish. I started by going through all of the clothes I had outgrown and sorted through those and bagged them up for donation. Then I went through all of my boxes of teaching materials from my former career and threw out paperwork and donated books. Then did the same with my other categories.
🎉 It's a good day when you pop in for a visit. Thanks Dawn 🤗
I always thought decanting in the refrigerator or pantry was ridiculous. Until I bought a couple of rectangle clear bins at Walmart. I was hooked! I have similar containers for sugar, flour, oatmeal, trail mix, chocolate chips, popcorn kernels (air popper), brown & powdered sugar, pinto beans, rice. Being able to SEE how much is inside makes planning my grocery list a breeze!!
When I started my decluttering journey years ago, long story short, I eventually came up with the expression "containers are the devil" 😅 so now if I have a container my focus is to get rid of it by getting rid of everything inside it and bonus - less plastic is always a good idea!
my favorite place for the all purpose bin, is in my bottom drawer freezer. I can 'file' foods and am able to take something out without all the rest falling in to take its place.
I love that you call our stuff inventory! It makes me really understand that every single item has to be “managed” …BY ME! I am off to Walmart to buy a FEW containers!
Concerning food storage, I "have to" decan things because of insects (moth...) and I use well sealed glass jars. Best system I found through practice is to have at least two jars of every item, so I use one, the other(s) is waiting (in the pantry). When I finish the fist one, I can fill it with fresh food after next grocery shopping and because of the second container I never run out of that item.
Yes you need two bins. I got cupboard beetles when I lived in Singapore. They came in on a bag of wild rice. They got inside everything, including spice jars. So it all went in airtight containers. My mother in law got cupboard moths. There was just one bag of flour that she hadn’t stored in a bin and they set up a family in it. She doesn’t bake now so the flour was left for a year. It’s impressive just how quickly insects can destroy a whole kitchen of produce.
I don't mind using plastic bins to organize around the house but when it comes to storing food, I think it's better to use glass jars/containers.
@ER-ol4wx yes, anything that touches the food is better to use glass.
@@ER-ol4wx 100%
The Year of the Rice Weevels will be forever seared in my brain.
panic day. NO reason; just a case of the crazies. starting with Dana K White's "DO the DISHES" whist listening to Dawn on repeat!!!! LOVE the "playlists" on Dawn's channel and the playlists on 'Diane in Denmark'. no judgement from them--just helpful ACTION
I put extra flour in a large glass jar with a tight lid, then keep it in the freezer.
Nooo! Not the basmati rice! (Baz matt ee). It has so much flavour. It doesnt turn into mush! I cried!
I live in a city with a lot of South Asian immigrants. Basmati is our default basic rice here. Its lovely rice and cooks really nicely.
Right!? I came to the comments to see if anyone commented on the rice. lol
It's so light and fluffy.💓
My favorite containers are the basic shoebox-style plastic boxes you can get for about $1 each at any discount store. They have the same footprint as the taller boxes;they’re just shorter. For me, it’s easier to see what’s in the box and easier to grab something out. They also work in some dresser drawers. And they come with lids so you can stack them sometimes.
Yes I use cereal containers for rice too. I put a plastic measuring cup inside with the rice so its there when it need it.
The plastic containers look great. I wish they were more environmentally friendly because the space in our landfills is like your containers - there is only so much room. I try to use Mason glass jars as much as possible - see thru & sealable. Thanks for your videos - you're always positive & inspiring.
Excellent point. Decluttering first, finding other solutions before buying new bins, not expecting bins to fix the issues are all things I find helpful. I mostly avoid buying new bins and sometimes they make all the difference feeling at peace in my home.
Another benefit of Mason jars is that they have heft. I've developed muscles in my arms without having to do boring workouts. Just going about my days keeps my arms and bones strong. I also intentionally keep the empty jars above my stove, so I have to reach overhead. And I put leftovers in the fridge in glass for the same reason.
Just wanted to share that after seeing you use those Y weave bins as laundry bins awhile back, I knew I wanted to give it a try with our four kids. GAME 👏🏼 CHANGER 👏🏼 So simple, yet so brilliant.
Our set up is a little different, so they keep their bin in their closet-but it’s so simple to carry to the laundry room… they start their wash, set the basket on top the washer, then when the laundry is transferred to the dryer, the bin is set in front of the dryer door. Then, it’s so simple for their clothes to be put right into their bin to carry back to their room to put away 🤯 Thank you for all your tips, Dawn!!
I bought an extra set of measuring cups from the dollar store and put them in my rice, flour etc. They live in that container. They are also different from my main set so if one is out I know it goes back into the rice.
Me too!!! My favorite part of playing with Barbies was setting up their house!
Having lived in the country a lot with seasons of mice, plus remembering living at parents home with moth weevils in dry goods, I much prefer food in containers. The drawer looks great now Dawn
I also put all my food into containers because of past mouse incursions. I use only glass for food, though. When I was pregnant I had super nose, and I could smell plastic in foods that were stored in plastic bins. I knew that if I could smell it, I was eating it, so we switched everything out of plastic.
We lived in a motorhome for 12 years, so with awkward sizes of shelves & various climate/insects decanting into storage containers was the best! Unfortunately Rubbermaid do not make the nice rectangle shaped containers (opaque white with red lids ) but there are others available.
Gosh I hate those things. Had them everywhere in the cupboards, hanging from the ceiling...most things are now in seal-tight containers but they don't fit in my cupboards so they are all out on the counter. Drives my husband crazy! I like seeing what I have.
@@jonap5740 Maybe try canning jars. You can use multiples, which is handy because you put away extras as you empty them. I use IKEA glass containers, which fit in cupboards easily.
I have been hesitant to decant pantry staples. Seems to me you would either have to use up all product in the container, or pour that bit in the container that is left, into a bowl, decant the new package, and then pour the old stuff on top. Otherwise, the stuff on the bottom will be really old and stale???
Try not refilling the container until it is empty. The new unopened package is waiting somewhere anyway. I weigh flour for recipes and sometimes get caught emptying the last of the container before adding from the new package - still a small effort to fix.
You need two bins for each item for this reason.
I actually do exactly what you describe. I pour out the little bit into a two cup measuring cup and add it back to the top. It takes just a few extra seconds to do this. Avoids having extra of everything.
Important to remember: Most dry goods have an expiration date. I keep a pack of small labels and a pen in the back of a drawer to label things I’ve decanted with their expiration date. I also label the expiration dates on refrigerated items as well.
I tried labeling cans with stickers, but the stickers wouldn't stay stuck. So now I write the expiration date right on the front of the can label in black sharpie.
Canada's public broadcaster just did a program on expiration dates. They are not required by law, and it's the same in the U.S. Most are artificial, and don't reflect food safety concerns. Food is safe and nutritious long past most expiry dates. Exceptions are dairy where we can tell when those expire!
It's good to keep track of the expiration/best before dates so that we use older products first. Most dry goods don't expire at a certain time though. Flavour/texture is generally better before a certain time, most dry goods don't become unsafe to eat unless they get wet or bugs in them.
I love your humility and honesty. But honestly, I can boldly say that we TRUST you Dawn! (Most would probably agree with me. Right?? 🙋🏻♀️) You don’t have to justify yourself. We love to support you. You are changing lives and making a HUGE difference in individuals, families, homes and communities and the world. Not too many “influencers” or UA-camrs do that. So THANK YOU!!! We trust you and love you and pray for all the best over you. 🤗
That's exactly how I played house, too! Setting up was always the most fun. Sometimes I pretended the dolls were having company coming and played clean up and company prep. 😅🤣
Fun fact; there's an old English word (circa 1900) to "scurryfunge". AKA to panic tidy&clean before company arrives 😂
Love that 😂
The Oxo containers have a spot to slide a scoop into the underside of the lid... very handy
I put all my pasta in tall glass jars with the clip-on lid. I always cut & tape the instructions on the front. Looks super nice and i can see when the pasta is running low...
The large basket weave bins are in the dollar tree+ section now too for $5, love them🙌. Also I'm cracking up because I finally used my rice sitting in my pantry after new years clean out. Dry rices especially if still sealed are good for years after their expectations as long as no moisture or package degrading happened, we're still here and dinner was delicious 😂so that's a good thing lol😅.
Frugal Fit Mom recently had a video on using food items after their expiration dates. I found it very freeing!
Marie Kondo got me going when I tried her method on my clothes. I think the main best idea was to take everything out first. That made a difference to me. But some of her ideas are not true for different homes. for example, I save some things, kitchen pans, dishes, and other stuff because I think one of my grandchildren who are starting college might need them. Marie would say that other people will never want them, but guess what, they do! Grandkids come and pick through my cool "junk" and they actually need some of these kinds of things. I am so glad I can just gift them those things, including bedding, etc. I have 39 grandkids, so most of them come from big families who need all the support they can get as they start off to college. I'm so glad I can help. I love you Dawn. One of my sons lives with his family in Burnsville, MN. They've raised 5 kids and they all love cold snowy weather, thanks to MN. lol Your friend and extra grandma if you need one. Anita.
Our kids are in their 30’s and don’t want our stuff. They make more money than we do by a long sit and consider our stuff junk for the most part. The stuff they want is vintage collector items that we actually still use as decor or our paintings… anything they can sell not use. My hubby wants me to sell everything and get what I can but it takes so long on Marketplace… they haggle and ask you to meet them halfway etc. Pain in the butt!!! I have 4 Pyrex Bowls still sitting at the door 1 week after purchaser paid $50 by transfer so my house looks like it’s dragging because of this… next time I’ll just donate it. I’ve spent 30 minutes at least texting back and forth so way too much time wasted… plus hurrying home to have them cancel coming to get it and now 2 days later it’s still here. I just got rid if containers for food as I won’t use them. The flours get forgotten as the sugars etc. We don’t use rice or pasta much anymore so open bags in one large container and new ones in another. I use to do that though. They were too big and ended up in back of pantry and got forgotten and I’d buy more thinking I had none.
Wow! First time I've watched any of your videos and I love it! The natural way that you talk and show us resonates with me so much! Most other people that do stuff like this on UA-cam are way too unnatural. You are authentic and fun, and so that's the best teaching method for me. Thanks so much! I'm a container-loving lady too and you've motivated me to up my game here at home!
I appreciate hearing the reasons why certain containers work well for you. we all have our own unique space and style so hearing that you like it because it has handles or it fits a load of laundry or the slim shape fits in an awkward cabinet. I don't have a container store near me (probably a good thing). i like hearing the why so when I am out and about at target or Wal-Mart or wherever I can make good decisions on what is available. My gosh, square containers make so much more sense than round. Remember the round Tupperware canister sets? I had the blue ones. 😏
Thanks for sharing. I love to organize. Me in my happy place🤗
Went to Walmart today and bought a few of the standing containers, I put two under my sink , they are perfect, thank you Dawn for the recommendation, after 7 years of living simply,I have been finally upgrading my containers, and for sure nice containers have brought me joy
I found the Walmart containers back in November and they have been a game changer!
I also want to thank you for writing the 12 week devotional with your sister! I am really enjoying it and my husband is actually reading it with me!❤
Love her blouse and it looks elegant AND comfy 😍
I used the “to go” containers to house books, crayons, paper, etc for each of the grandkids while on our last road trip. Worked great and gave them a flat surface to write/draw/color on.
Wonky corner cabinets❤ yup we all love to hate them😂 one day I'm gonna get stuck in there pulling out out some small appliance!
I have lazy susans in those two corner cabinets. Thay really doesn't solve the problem either. I've thought of taking them out
Just yesterday I switched out my DT colored bins (pink, purple, yellow) for Walmart's clear bins to store all my craft supplies. What a nice difference!
Dawn I appreciate you and I’m so glad you have reached the place you can appreciate Marie Kondo. I remember in the past you didn’t really get her - like all things, it’s from our perception we look at things. You give us so much encouragement in all your videos, thank you.
I use the multi-purpose bins for everything- Cleaning supplies, office files, in my kitchen, in my pantry, in my linen closet.
Sooooo glad you finally revisited Marie Kondo book!!! Has driven me crazy over the years, when you’ve dismissed it, as it was completely Life Changing for me!!!! 🎉🎉🎉🎉
When you decant food, esp. baking goods, don’t forget to add the expiration date! I usually just cut it out and tape it to the container.
Thanks for a great video. It was Marie Kondo that first started me on my journey to minimalism, and you have continued to guide me along the way. Living with less has truly been life changing 😊
My husband measured all of our cabinets and found lg tubs (think the tubs that restaurants use to clear off dirty dishes from the tables). They fit perfectly and act as drawers for all of our lower cabinets. They have made such a difference in not losing things in the back.
My heart is so happy with the organization! I LOVE this type of stuff…. a happy cricket 😁 I also found some fabric covered fiberboard boxes (file box size) that come in sets on Amazon. I love them and they fit perfectly on my bookshelf. I use mine for memory boxes, stationary, gifts and wrap, etc. For a time I also used them for clothes since I don’t use a dresser. Now I’ve minimized my closet so far, my closet now fits a hanging organizer that I added bins in the slots for the underwear, socks, and folded jeans, etc.
Me too! I’m a Cricket as well!
I love the baking drawer! We don’t bake as much, so I got a container with a gasketed lid to put all the bags in. We wrap rubber bands around the bags to close them and labeled the bin “baking”.
Working on decluttering my office. Took banker boxes and labeled each on my computer which included all like items stored in each box. Printed paper and inserted it in document sheet covers. Used painters tape to attach to one short end of each box. Now when I add an item to a box, I just reprint the sheet of paper and insert it in the sheet protected.
I use one of the Target bins, that you use in your laundry room, in my bedroom for clothes I don’t want anymore. I like them.
Go Dawn! Such a great video. I'm a bit of an organizational freak. I love those Walmart Cereal Bins.
If I'm not mistaken, The Container Store's multi-purpose bins actually come in 4 different sizes - Small, Medium, Large and Extra Large. I have them all over my house and even in the extra freezer. They are fantastic and I find that they are a pretty good value.
Another thing the Container Store sells are their big white Sterilite totes that I found were a lot less expensive than even Walmart. I got a set of 8 of them for our storage room for an excellent price.
Their free membership perks often gives me an extra 25% off my purchase as well. So, not all their items are over-priced, and for the durability and versatility a lot of their items are really well priced for what you get. Once upon a time, I spent a lot at the Dollar Store on all their colorful bins and ended up throwing out a lot of them because they were so flimsy!
I bought those Y weave baskets once I heard you say in another video that they hold roughly one load of laundry and I have been loving them for the winter stuff and smaller handbags (I have quite a few). They’re also REALLY light weight! Thanks dawn!
It was so satisfying to watch you reorganize your baking drawer!!
I have also discovered these cereal containers and so far using for rice and cereal. Just curious: if that is the baking drawer, why rice? And why not flour there? Just wondering. Perhaps my OCD.
Glad its not just me!
Your baking drawer is beautiful and peaceful.
The best reason to decant is that you can see when you are running low. Love to decant.
The container store bins are awesome! I got a set for a small apartment. It does live up to its name and is truly multi-purpose. They sit side-by-side cleanly.
My eagle eye spotted a very familiar book! You teach your kids to read with the "Teach you child to read in 100 easy lessons". It is a great resourse. Taught 2 kids this way so far. Very efficient.
With 4 in our family and each person liking a different toothpaste and having an electric toothbrush, I use a cutlery container (the cute metal divided basket) on our bathroom counter with each person having their cubby Love it!
There is no container store within 300 miles from me so THANK YOU for showing an alternative at more affordable price!
Dawn, dollar Tree has those woven baskets for $3.
Of course Marie Kondo is brilliant.
She brought that whole thing to us.
😊❤
Great great video, amazing suggestions!
I love those organizing/tidying /decluttering videos (and I love you). ☺️
I think there are layers to organizing. Once you can master the skills of finding consistent homes for things and can keep them maintained then the bins become a blessing and not a burden
Thanks Dawn for taking the time to give us a VISUAL reference. ❤😊
I loved this video and love your content Dawn! I carry your ideas with me in many aspects of my life! Just a thought, what if you switched the flour and rice bins so that you can keep your baking ingredients together?
Laundry Bins - I've admired your laundry bins for a few years - they are perfect. They are the exact size for a load of laundry and the squarish bin makes so much more sense than the old fashioned round laundry baskets. I like how you can use different colors to signify separate loads.
Items last longer in containers I have found. Also cut the directions off the box for like a pancake mix and put in the container. I have also found that dry erase markers will write on these containers and then wipe off later.
Important to add the use by date to you label for rice and flour. And don’t just top up from store packaging. You either have to run your bins right down and then refill fresh or have two bins for each category. My solution is the put the bag inside the bin.
I love to organize my grandson's kitchen.
The best cold cereal containers I've ever used are the ones from Tupperware...the actual real brand Tupperware. I've had them for 20 plus years, and they are still going strong. They are also more square. I also have the Tupperware brand pantry containers...again square, so they fit really nice. Rubbermaid has some pantry containers that don't slant in on the sides. They have 3 or 4 different sizes. They fit absolutely perfect in my upper kitchen cabinets. They hold all of my baking items. I wish I could show pictures, because I've never seen anyone use those containers in their kitchen cabinets. They have red lids.
Great ideas and the pink top looks great. Would you mind sharing where you got it from please Dawn?
I can't tell you how much I'm enjoying your videos. I had to come to my computer (yes, computer!) to comment bc I'm watching them on my tv. I'm plodding through clearing out stuff, selling some and donating items. You're right; we assign more value to our own items! I have little cupboard space in my kitchen, so I like your idea of putting lids in one container that I can just pull out. You have me looking at new ways to store items, after determining what do I really need to keep. We're FAR from clearing a lot out yet, but I'll get there. My husband wants to store a LOT of toys for the visiting grandkids (five kids ranging 3 months - 6 years) and there is a lot that they never choose to play with. He's adamant that he wants THEM to decide what I pass on. But he wants me to wait until the infant is older. Oh well. I'll keep working on other areas.
And p.s. your natural hair color is just stunning. (from a conversation on an earlier video that I never commented on...) Be well!
An organized space makes my heart so so happy!!! 🥰 But my struggle with putting stuff into containers is what if it doesn’t all fit? Now you have to store the container and the overflow! And we don’t all have space for both. Any thoughts on this would be greatly appreciated!!! I do love the idea though Dawn!!!!! 🥰
I keep a little measuring cup in my container with rice for easy measuring out every time!
I have that electric Toothbrush in my shower. I have it hidden/stuck on the tile so it’s not visible through the glass surround. I’m loving it, since it’s not screwed into the tile. Works great for brushing teeth in the shower.
And if you stick to a few container types for most areas it makes rearranging less wasteful. I can rearrange all the time and still get a nice uniform look. I love the Target brightroom flexible drawers organizers for that reason too!
I put measuring cups in the containers..(rice, flour, etc…)
You can soak the rice in water and/or milk, then strain it to get an awesome drink called horchata!! Add a cinnamon stick for it when soaking. Try to have it soak for at least 3 hours I think, I've only done it for over 12 hours.
I was JUST thinking of looking back to your old videos to find a Blinkist list so I could listen in the sauna and walking! ❤🎉 Thx sister!!
Wow! I needed that boost of enthusiasm and motivation. Thank you!
I have those container store containers in my freezer! They fit perfectly!
Love everything you do Dawn! Why not store the rice in the pantry with the rest of the pasta and keep the flour in the baking drawer? Seems like it makes more sense on your “where would I look for this” question.
Watching your video today sparked an idea for a better organization for me.
I have a dresser at the end of our shower because there's no linen storage in there and there was space for it.
I have a drawer of first aid stuff and the dresser faces the commode,so I think I'm going to put my feminine hydrogen products. In there and put the let's use first aid stuff underneath the sink. Bathroom inspiration 😅
I love the multi-purpose bins from Container store too! Wish they weren't as pricey, or I didn't have to pay shipping. But they are great.
The idea of the target basket for hampers is smart!
Awesome video, thanks for sharing
I have several of the Container Store Multi-purpose bins. Love them under by sink and in pantry. Also in my craft room one holds all the cutting mats, stamping mats and all those shape things vertically so things are not stacking on top of each other. Love these.
I have had a brother PT LabelMaker for 20 years the same one it works great I ordered the cartridges the refills on Amazon. I use them for my gardening to label my steaks. I use them for the house I use them for notebooks I use them I love the label machine when my kids were younger I used to label their books from school, their notebooks and all that That’s the best thing that brother P touch.
Any foods that I take out of their original containers I always use large mason jars from Amazon. A little more expensive but I like things stored in glass. Just a thought of what I use!
I love your transparency, even when finding expired fancy rice… just like the rest of us 😊
Basmati rice cooked just like plain white - better flavor & better for Chinese meals.
Also the Rubbermaid laundry baskets at Walmart (square shape with handles) are also 1 washer load & fabulous for hampers - and a good price!
😂 One of my favorite things about playing barbies was setting up the furniture, getting all of the little groceries in the fridge and setting up different tea and fine dining place settings
Hi! I’m a baker and I have a pretty organized baking area.
You should put the rice in the pantry and flour in the baking drawer, so you don’t forget where it’s at.
Organizing makes my heart happy too!
Their orange chicken! People have varying opinions but we love it! A TJ's employee told us to hear the sauce up in a pan (rather than the microwave) to evaporate some of the water in the sauce so the chicken doesn't get as soft if you have left overs. We don't usually have left overs though!😅
The Container Store was out of your favorite containers - but I found essentially the same thing (in 3 sizes) on Amazon. 😊
I love the Container store bins you showed. I have a lot of them in various paces. For my garage freezer, 2 of the largest ones fit perfectly across the width of the shelves, and I have meats, chicken and seafood in 2 of them on 1 shelf, the shelf above has veggies, starches and casseroles in 2 of them, the top shelf has 3 of the medium ones and that is perfect for the ice creams, and frozen treats. We gave our daughter our od kitchen fridge, and the same containers fit perfectly across the top mount freezer space there, and makes it very easy to organize. I have them under the kitchen sink and in several cupboards to hold cleaning supplies.
I love containers!💕
Thank you, fantastic ideas!!
