GameFreak: makes games called Sun and Moon, includes an event involving the original sun and moon Pokémon
Also GameFreak: the original sun and moon Pokémon can't be caught in the Sun and Moon games
Also also GameFreak: we turned off all online for the 3ds too so now you can't even trade them to Sun and Moon
@@ryanthecringeanimator9541Actually, if you still have Pokemon Bank on your 3DS, you can still transfer it over for now.
(Also, that was Nintendo that did that, not Gamefreak.)
I think their exclusion is likely due to the fact that it might confuse a new player into believing they had some kind of importance to the story.
@@ryanthecringeanimator9541 Actually, that was N i n t e n d o, not Gamefreak, so don't blame them. And even then, if you still have Bank on your System before the store closed, the server is still at the time of writing this, so you can still transfer it.
@@darthfastball1150 but they are important to the story. Completing the Pokédex is the main goal of all Pokémon games and your told early on to catch them all
Solrock should have Drought and Lunatone should have Psychic Terrain.
That would go hard ☀️ 🌙
Seems more like a Hidden Abilities kind of thing but I can get behind this.
I'm for this
I have a shiny Solrock named "Kepler" and a shiny Lunatone named "Galileo." I wish Pokémon did more with them, I think they're lovely.
Solrock and Lunatone like Plusle/Minun and Volbeat/Illumise were created for the double battle feature.
I kind of feel like Solrock, Lunatone and Minior (from Gen 7) should share some kind of connection as the Pokédex entries calls Solrock and Lunatone the Meteorite Pokémon and Minior the Meteor Pokémon but it's just a head theory of mine, Minior came out much later after several Generations and it seems that Solrock and Lunatone (much like Plusle and Minun) were made in to a set for marketing purposes. It would be very interesting to see these two with Mega Evolution's in Legends Z-A and I can imagine some pretty interesting designs for them too but I wonder what everyone else thinks.
I want them to be connected in some way too, but for some reason they've never been in the same game together. It'd be cool if one day they were found at the same meteor site or at least on a specific trainer's team since they're literally the sun, moon, and stars.
I do kind of like how Minior feels a bit like a little addition to them, but of course, it’s still its own thing.
A Mega Lunatone or Solrock would actually be sick!
@@neodica5967 I'm not sure if them being connected would make much sense. Minior are said to be "born in the ozone layer," meaning they're not an extraterrestrial species like Solrock and Lunatone may be. Still, it'd definitely be cool to see them in the same game one day. Kinda weird that they weren't in the Indigo Disk; the Canyon Biome would've been a perfect place for them.
You take the Moon 🌙 and you take the Sun 🌞 🎶 🎵
YOU TAKE EVERYTHING THAT SEEMS LIKE FUN
You stir it all up, and when you're done!
Radda radda radda rara radda radda
“Past the moon and the sun and we don’t know why”
I understood that reference
New episode comes out tomorrow btw!
Ugh, let's get out of here before the Lunatone gets frisky
Ba den den den
I'm glad you cited the most important source of scientific knowledge, the Yugioh anime
One thing that bugged me was how it took until Shield to legitimately get Lunatone in a Moon Ball.
Funny thought, is it possible that Moon Stones and Sun Stones are broken parts of them?
Could be!
A notable thing about them is that they're one of the very very very VERY few region locked Pokémon in GO (yes, Niantic absolutely wants you to buy plane tickets for a virtual creature) that actually swap their region exclusivity every so often.
So you could have Lunatone available right now but next year you might have Solrock, while Lunatone is on the other side of the world
I think the dude in USUM is a reference to Star Trek, but I may be wrong. the red shirt and the way he vanishes makes me think that.
edit: was thinking about it again and it has to be. they used the closest model they had to Picard.
Good theory!
Wait... So the ORIGINAL Sun and Moon Pokémon wasn't even obtainable IN Sun and Moon?! 🧐
At least aegislash was in galar
Martin’s Solrock used Cosmic Power
AAGGHHHHHHHHH
*_No._*
It’s super effective… at making you rage
I hate how that actually gave me flashbacks
These Pokémon are literal examples of how the 3rd generation is big on counterparts. Even some that look very similar but aren’t related in terms of evolution. Them, Plusle + Minun and Volbeat + Illumise. I’m not counting the legendary mascots, the golems or the Latis as those are obvious.
Volbeat and Illumise are literally the same Pokémon, they are the equivalent to the Nidorans
“My planet needs me.”
Gen 3 did also introduce Deoxys, another alien and linked to a well known urban legend for Gen 3 in Mossdeep City (home of Tate and Liza). In the anime iirc Tate and Liza are used to fighting in zero g, perhaps giving their Lunatone and Solrock a battle space more akin to their place of origin.
Would've been fun if Pokémon Mystery Club were more involved in the space episodes like Deoxys
And maybe even in the Ultra Beast episodes
"Discovered 40 years ago"... yet both show up in AZ's cutscene :V
Perhaps they were forgotten and lost to time until the modern pokemon world, it was over 3,000 years ago after all
Just like how Steel type was recently discovered in GSC but Hisuians knew about it
I figured they existed only to show off double battles
lol yep basically. Basically same with Plusle and Minun.
I'd definitely want to see them get some evos to buff their stats and bring them back to relevance
I really like this video style of yours because it's informative while also chill and casual
So if Lunatone's dex entry about it being discovered 40 years ago is true, that would mean that Solrock's arrival predates Lunatone's since it's depicted in the Kalos war
I think I saw both in the cutscene actually. But if that were the case, aside from just general Pokédex entry discrepancies, the discovery of the species doesn’t = it’s time of arrival on earth necessarily. We’re still discovering new animal species to this day after all.
Mega Solrock when? Mega Lunatone when? Evolve via Sun Stone when? Evolve via Moon Stone when?
I used them both in my mystery dungeon remake playthrough in the post game and were not only fun to use but did pretty good together.
One thing I find interesting about Solrock and Lunatone is which regions they're native to. So far, they've appeared in four regional Pokédexes: Hoenn, Unova, Kalos, and Galar. With the exception of Kalos, all of those regions are ones which have had major impact events in the past. Unova's Giant Chasm was created by a meteorite impact, as was Sootopolis City in Hoenn. Also, while the exact impact site is unknown, we do know that a meteorite containing Eternatus landed in Galar 20,000 years before the events of Sword and Shield. While Lunatone (and presumably Solrock) were canonically discovered 40 years ago, and those impact events are much older, I still find it interesting that they keep showing up in places where these kinds of events occur.
(2:14) You make a good point here. Version exclusives are not given this much thought. In the developers defense, this would be tricky to pull off in other generations.
Always had a softspot for these Pokemon. Especially Lunatone because I grew up with Sapphire, and I really love the moon.
Once I had both a solrock and a lunatone, I called them "Sunrein" and "Lunaria" and I married them on the PC with the Sky background, I took out my entire team, letting a pluse on the team space to let all of them see the event
I gave them to a guy Wi-Fi via, holding a letter saying "Sunny day" and "Rain Dance"
My only gripe about Gen 3 Solrock and Lunatone is that you can farm Sun Stones and Moon Stones from them. This makes the unlimited availability of such items also version exclusives. And as of Gen 3, there were definitely more pokémon that need a Moon Stone than those that need a Sun Stone so there is an imbalance in those two items being counterparts.
“Night day, it’s all okay, the choice is yours a cosmic buffet”
I really look forward to your videos now. I actively hope there’s one there when I open UA-cam. Honestly your content and ideas are so fresh and interesting it made me love Pokémon even more! Thanks for all you do it’s truly inspiring
It's a strange thought that in the Pokémon world in living memory these species were completely unknown but are now incredibly common across multiple regions and live with trainers in their houses. Imagine if we had some kind of cool pet animals which were unknown as recently the 1970s
I’m kinda surprised they didn’t give us more Alolan Forms with the Ultra games, and Solrock and Lunatone seemed like prime contenders for that :/
I actually like these guys despite the 'eh' kind of stats. They remind us that Pokemon games are still RPG's at their core, and something that all RPG's do at their core is world build. So having these two do a good job at giving us an idea early on that Pokemon can truly come from Outer Space was really fascinating to me growing up. Plus, Tate & Liza being able to use them decently also play a part in ehy I like them. And that's something I always appreciate when Pokemon games do. 😌
When I first found Solrock in Meteor Falls, I had to catch it. I'm just waitin to come across Lunatone now
You can't get Lunatone in Ruby or Emerald you have to get it in Sapphire
@@Idonotknowofname damn! Good looking out. I would've been tryin without knowin
Martins solrock can never be forgiven!
Because we needed a Rock/Psychic dual type.
Solrock and Lunatone exist because they exist, although it would be nice to get a lore explanation as to how they came to be. They are just psychic sentient rocks from space that just so happen to resemble our sun and moon. 🌞🌛 Solrock and Lunatone are some of the coolest pokemon in the franchise. Hopefully someday we can learn more about them in new dex entries, or something of the sort. But I think they might be related to Baltoy and Claydol in some way. They must be ancient. Historical pokemon are very neat! 😁😎
I wonder if they are related to Minior
I love their designs, specially the eyes. There's truly something alien and at the same time wild about them, like true extraterrestrial fauna finding a habitat in earth
C-Moon
Solrock also looks like a compass
When will we get pokemon earth and moon? Travel to space and battle space gym leaders
I always loved their addition to gen 3, because it is the gen where we also got Deoxys, so I always wondered if they'd ever make some hard connection between all three.
The only gripe I'll ever have about the two, is that I thought Lunatone should have gotten as many Ice moves, as Solrock did Fire.
I remember as a kid sending my lunatone to my friend with Ruby while i took care of her solrock. With the idea that they'd allow us to catch the other in our own games. Even though no solrock or deoxys showed up, i still like my weird moon rock.
love the attention you’re giving these two. solrock is also just way better
Their main role in Gen 3 is as renewable sources of Sun and Moon Stones. 😭
I love solrock it's so awesome and the design of it is fantastic good job game freak❤❤❤
I always loved solrock and lunatone
They would really benefit from a special rock type move that isn’t ancient power
Do they even learn ancient power?
They learn Meteor Beam and I'm sure that Power Gem too
cannot end the video until i see quaggo
I just think they're neat.
more like why do the sun and moon even exist
Because of the same reason that *_Stellith_* and *_Planite_* of _Pokemon Altair/Sirius/Vega_ exist.
What
@@Idonotknowofname
Google _Pokemon Altair, Sirius, Vega, Procyon and Deneb_ to find the answer.
Would be kind of nice if they got a slight stat buff.
That's why I think they should get their own Mega Evolution's in my opinion, I think that's the best solution to this at this point.
@@KosmoZer0 Mawile and Beedrill are examples of why making a Pokémon viable only with a gimmick they can remove or reintroduce at will is not good
To give me childhood trauma
That's why
Hear me out what if a fall guy appeared in smash bros, I’m only gonna say the final smash and one move, soooo you can make the rest of the fall guys movie so he’s final smash is that he throws 2 big bouncey yeetas so that’s it I gotta sleep so I lied
And the move is that he throws a lily pad and he can jump on it
Same reason we all exist...
To suffer 😔
Lovely vid
Lovely video
I really like lunatone its sunken in eye and beak is really cool. Solrock has always been kinda lame to me
I think they're cool.
because theyre cool. next question (i should probably watch the video)
Because they're cool.
Lunatone is basically like
“Hello Caine, I love you”
While solrock is basically like
“Hi Caine, I’m going to kill you’
They're cute??
DONT DISS THEM THEY EXIST BECAUSE THEY UM YHEY UHHHH TH UNM UHHHH?????
A lot of the “filler” mons are some of my lowkey favs it’s just a shame that they tend to not be all that powerful. Failure of trying to add a early game fully evolved pokemon
Virgin solrock and lunatone vs absolute units solgaleo and lunala
It’s the other way around 😎
I do not think about either, because they are just filler. Nothing else.
Heck yeah. more sun and moon content
