That diamond in the rough could also be nod to the Trubbish line. Where most people see it as a waste, others like Oleana see value in the pokemon. Especially considering Garbodor can G-Max.
I'm so thankful you made this video GatorEx, it kinda feels like a follow up to your 'Bad Pokemon Deaigns Don't Exist" video, which I really liked btw. I'm glad to see you give some love to one of the most misunderstood Pokemon of all time. Also, fun fact about why the Trubbish line exists. Since Unova is bad on New York City, it makes sense to have a Pokemon based on garbage be there since the Trash Issue there is legit a big issue. So it really fit the region really well. I remember seeing the episode of the black and white anime that debut Trubish, I thought they were odd but it didn't bother me. Then one day at gamestop I looked at the manual for the game to see what all the Gen 5 Pokemon looked liked and when I got to Garboder they freaked me out because I always saw the trash as being like their innards so it looked like their bodies had burst open plus the dead stare in it's eyes while it's mouth was open was so creepy to me. I remember that it bothered me so much that every time I would look at that page I would cover the image of Garboder with my thumb so I couldn't see it. But over time I grew more use to the design and started to really love these two weirdos and it was honestly cool that they gave him a Gmax form and some story focus with being Oleana's ace.
Does muk, electrode or golem have any better tho? I don't dislike the object like pokémon, I like many of them actually, just that I do not see logic behind saying garbodor or vanilluxe is any worse than muk or electrode. Also golem (not named that in original language) is not that much of a golem, regis or golurk are much more like actual golem than golem is.
@@faniskouklas Yeah, I get why it is, its from nostalgia, koffing is my favourite pokémon but only a little bit more than durant and cosmoem. But I still can recognize that original pokémon are not designed better than the new ones, some of the original ones are not the best designs at all.
It’d be cool if defeating a Trubbish or Garbodor had a high chance of dropping random stuff, including some rare items. Hell, not only stuff you can use, but items you can pawn at an in-game pawn shop for extra Poke dollars or cans/bottles/metal can take somewhere to recycle for Poke dollars like you can IRL. Hell, maybe some crafting items.
Also, it would be cool if, you encounter a hoard of Trubbish in the while, there is a chance you can encounter a Bannette since it is literally discarded doll out for revenge.

Garbodor is one of my favorite gen 5 pokemon. The variety is what makes the Pokemon franchise so special. If all of the Pokemon tried to look as badass as possible it would get try-hard really fast. There should be all kinds of different Pokemon, even silly ones.
Garbodor is also one of my favorite Pokémon (if my username didn't make that obvious), and I completely agree with you about variety being what makes Pokémon special. While there's no shortage of badass Pokémon that I love, some of my absolute favorites tend to be the ones which look the goofiest. Sadly, those kinds of Pokémon are usually some of the least popular among fans, which is just a shame. Weird Pokémon deserve love too!

I don't think that's a great argument. I'm an older player, but my favorite designs come from later generations and not Gen 1. I don't love a lot of Gen 1 designs, because they're just animals for the most part. However, in the first generation of a new game, I wouldn't expect a lot of off-the-wall designs. And Pokémon was built to mimic the real world zoology we see. I don't _love_ Voltorb and the Grimer lines for that reason, but at least they're simple designs that are easy on the eyes. I don't even _like_ the Trubbish line, because: 1. It looks unappealing. It's just a trash bag with scattered, intentionally unappealing colors with little coordination. Klefki and even Vanillish match within their own color schemes. And at least Muk is one solid color that meshes. 2. It's not an animal. At least, all of basic designs look like animals which makes sense, because Pokémon is pretty much just animal/monster taming. 3. It doesn't make sense. Why would trash get up and walk around? Electricity has a power source and can be considered computerized. Toxic sludge can be considered some mutation or fusion with bacteria. Trubbish is just trash bag that got uppity, and I don't know why (and don't say "it's just a video game," because PokéDex entries often give reasons for how Pokémon came to be. Ghostly manifestations, mutations, fusions, etc. Trubbish has nothing like that in its entries. One says "chemical reaction," but a chemical reaction that creates an autonomous _life?_ The other just says it was born from a bag stuffed with trash. If you're gonna go the fantasy route, it kinda needs a ghost or spirit or lab-created backstory. 4. It's meant to be a substitute _for_ Muk, so it's not originally uninspired. Sawk and Throh have the same issue as being replacements for the original Hitmons. Pure Poison type. One evolution. It just looks worse. And sure, beauty is in the eye of the cliché. But if you ask the designer if it was supposed to look "good," they'd probably say no. In fact, it's canon. In SwSh, Oleana has a team of Pokémon considered traditionally beautiful or alluring. Froslass. Milotic. Salazzle. Tsareena. Garbador is her ace to show her poor upbringing but also to _contrast against the _*_beauty_*_ of the rest of the team._ Anyone can like any Pokémon they want. But let's stop pretending that the Trubbish line wasn't made to be trash: literally and figuratively. And if it was made to be unappealing and it was an uninspired design, we shouldn't be surprised it gets put down.
If I had a nickel for every time a generational gimmick only included special treatment for one Gen 5 mon... ...then I could have had 3, but Z-Moves straight up said "f*ck Gens 2 through 6."
I actually really like Trubbish :) Pokemon with that sort of blank stare are always cute to me, and the way the garbage tie at the top looks like bunny ears is so creative! I even drew fanart of it for Pokemon Club in high school as if it were a game mascot which was super fun. Garbodor is definitely uglier. Its rope arms and the garbage pouring from its ears is pretty gross. But on the other hand, it's very distinct, and the way everything pours out from the bottom too is pretty clever (the G-Max form is cool too).
When people use Garbodor as their "proof" that newer Pokémon designs are garbage, I just laugh. If you're gonna make a literal garbage Pokémon, these are pretty much how you'd do it. I always loved how they pulled off Trubbish's ugly-but-endearing vibe, and I'll always defend him.
Okay, in the defense of this design, the G-Max of Garbodor is great. I like the addition of abandoned toy vehicles scaled up to create a sense of kaiju-like menace. I also like that they did develop Oleana a bit in the series, though I wish that SwSh had done that already. If this thing had been introduced in Gen 8, it might have been well received. Hard to tell
Nice. I had that with koffing. But garbodor is nice pokémon, I do not get the hate it gets. Muk is in my opinion a bit lazy design, but it is still fine pokémon. Garbodor is not lazy, it is an interesting idea for a pokémon and how it is finished as a creature.
Trubbish and Garbodor are pretty cool since they are hunted by the Grimer line in Alola and in Galar, Galarian Weezing enjoys the fumes created by Trubbish.
3:27 Garbodor is one of my favorite Pokémon, so I was absolutely ecstatic when I found out it received a Gigantamax form. Even after nearly 5 years, I still can't believe this actually happened. If you count Melmetal as a Kanto Pokémon (since its debut was in LGPE), then Garbodor is the only G-Max Pokémon that's not from Kanto or Galar. Out of the 700+ Pokémon from Gens II to VII, they chose literal trash to be the only one capable of Gigantamaxing. That's hilarious.
Trubbish and Garbordar despite not being favorites are based on NYs Garbage. As for Gen 5 Pokemon I do like are Seismatoad,Gigalith,Haxerous,and Hydriegon.
It's funny trubbish and grimer have rivalry because they're both the same Pokémon. When team rocket made mewtwo there were a bunch of leftover dittos from the process, after they left the power plant in gringey city they fell into toxic waste and dumpsters thus becoming grimer and trubbish.
I know the anime pronounces it Garb-ODOR like Garbage and Odor but I've been pronouncing it like you for too long to change it now, it's been locked in along with ARSE-eus
While the Trubbish line isn’t my absolute favorite Pokémon, I can appreciate its existence. I usually don’t like Pokémon that have designs that try too hard to be either cute or cool only for them to look horrible like Aromatisse or Emboar but Pokémon who embrace their ugly designs and actually make it work honestly has my respect. Doesn’t mean I actually like them but I don’t absolutely hate them.

I really like Gigantamax Garbodor. I wanted to put one in my team when I played Sword & Shield for the first time, but I had no idea how to obtain one before I finished the game.
I am one of the probably rare few who actually adores much of Gen V’s newcomers, and as a poison type fan (if my username wasn’t already obvious) Garbodor and also Scolipede are among my favorites of Gen V, so much so that my trainer OC who prioritizes both alongside Seviper, Tentacruel, Salazzle, and Swalot.
i like oleana's backstory with trubbish/garboder but i'm very indifferent to the pokemon itself. i usually don't pokemon designs that are just living objects with no other features or ones that are just normal animals, and garboder is one of few examples of that after the awful gen 1 dex which is filled to the brim with that issue. i'm not exaggerating here, 51 of the original 151 fit into that category of "just objects or normal animals". i get it was their first try but that's kinda sad
I wish more folks had respect for Pansage like this. My poor favorite got blasted by the fanbase and forgotten by Game Freak. I guess it could be worse though, at least he's not his fire type cousin.
Black and white being my first games, all of the Pokémon introduced from them are always going to have a special place in my heart. I never really got the hate for garbodour anyway, it’s not that bad of a design and In fact, I think it’s pretty clever. I think it just gets a bad rap because it’s based off of literal garbage, similar to purrugly being called ugly just because it has the word in the name.
I just cannot bring myself to hate these Pokemon. I will stand by my belief of "that's the point" isn't a catch all for why a Pokemon can be off-putting for some. I don't disagree with anyone who hates Garbodor because it's ugly, I just personally like the trash heap (or more specifically Trubbish, Trubbish is neat)

I am a fan of Garbador, its based off an abomination. I am thinking to make it kid friendly, its made out of trash instead of body parts, I dig it.

Despite not liking many of the Gen 5 designs, I actually do really like Trubbish and Garbador.
i like oleana's backstory with trubbish/garboder but i'm very indifferent to the pokemon itself. i usually don't pokemon designs that are just living objects with no other features or ones that are just normal animals, and garboder is one of few examples of that after the awful gen 1 dex which is filled to the brim with that issue. i'm not exaggerating here, 51 of the original 151 fit into that category of "just objects or normal animals". i get it was their first try but that's kinda sad

I wish more folks had respect for Pansage like this. My poor favorite got blasted by the fanbase and forgotten by Game Freak. I guess it could be worse though, at least he's not his fire type cousin.

Black and white being my first games, all of the Pokémon introduced from them are always going to have a special place in my heart. I never really got the hate for garbodour anyway, it’s not that bad of a design and In fact, I think it’s pretty clever. I think it just gets a bad rap because it’s based off of literal garbage, similar to purrugly being called ugly just because it has the word in the name.
Pokémon Black was my second Pokémon game (June 2012), just a year and a half after Pokémon SoulSilver (December 2010).
I just cannot bring myself to hate these Pokemon. I will stand by my belief of "that's the point" isn't a catch all for why a Pokemon can be off-putting for some. I don't disagree with anyone who hates Garbodor because it's ugly, I just personally like the trash heap (or more specifically Trubbish, Trubbish is neat)

Garbador is possibly one of the best Gen 5 designs. It is great.
nah. Trubish and Garboder ain't the worst gen 5 has to offer. Vanillite, Vanillish and Vanilluxe take that crown easily.
Still a better design than most Gen 5 Pokemon. Especially Klink, Klink is easily the worst Pokemon design
