Important notice: If you have any errors with iTunes, please watch further into my video when I explain how to fix it. You will always get iTunes errors with this downgrade! If you comment any more saying that iTunes has failed when you did not watch further enough into the video (which is illogical because why would the video still have steps remaining after the iTunes restore if all you had to do is restore it in iTunes), I WILL block you from ever commenting on my UA-cam channel, because I don’t have time to deal with stupid comments like that. Minor update: It appears that the custom iPSWs for iOS 6.1.1 and 6.1.2 do not work on the iPhone 4, so you can attempt them, but do not expect them to work (I have not tested them yet.).

For people getting the missing keys.plist error, fortunately I switched from windows 7 to Mac OS X 10.8.5 and continued doing the tethered boot, and it worked!

yo first off thanks for the detailed tutorial, helped me a lot man.
I just have a question though. After installing a mod thing from cydia, my phone crashes and shuts down. So, I boot it back up as normal like I usually do when i turn it off (the dfu mode usual stuff) and now when I do that, It boots to the pineapple logo as normal, but the problem is, it stays on the pineapple for about 10 minutes then it disapears and goes back to the itunes screen. Do you happen to know a fix?
I sadly do not know a fix to that, which I am sorry for.

iREB doesn't work for some reason. After putting it to DFU mode and using iREB, the countdown stops at 2 or so and then my iphone is rebooting. Don't have the chance to even press home and lock button.
1) Downgrades have to be complex because you are exploiting an iPhone.
2) Try Redsn0w instead.
@@leonderprofie123 lol you've probably found a fix by now, but are you using windows 10? I had the same issue on windows 10 but I just used a win7 virtual machine or I also used compatibility mode with windows 7 under application properties and then it worked fine on windows 10 for the most part!

Have you attempted Absinthe and Redsn0w? I know those are common tools, but “usual” is not specific.
It works downgrading ipod touch 4th from ios 6.1.6 to 4.1 and sounded charging voice, but strange itunes logo block the screen and showing battery at right-top of the screen corner, what should I do?
It is the iOS 4 activation screen. Just plug it into iTunes and it will activate.

I had to use my old windows vista to put it into pwned dfu mode because it refused with windows 10

I was trying to do Pwned DFU mode using Windows 10, but it fails it.
Try using Windows XP, Vista, or 7 if you can. Virtual machines will work, but I do not know much about them.
Will this downgrade help me remove the activation lock on this iphone? As it is causing an issue due to my forgotten apple id password, which is now irrecoverable

Yes, that is normal. Just follow the further instructions in the video and I will show you then how to get rid of the error.
When I put in DFU on Ireb, after the completed, it turns on, so I can’t put in iTunes :(
Do it before opening iREB and try counting your seconds more slowly.
When i click Pwned DFU My iPhone 4 (iPhone3,1). during exploit it restarts to the apple logo and it says exploit failed

No, you do not need to jailbreak your iPhone to downgrade it. Chances of bricking the phone are 1%.

You will still be able to install iOS 6 on your iPhone 4.

Hey bro I just did as you instructed and I successfully downgraded from ios 7.1.2 to ios 6.1.2 on my iPhone 4 (GSM, I did it through ireb). But I have slight problem now whenever I reboot the phone it directly goes into recovery mode and asks me to connect to itunes, is there any way I can fix this? For now, as you mentioned in the latter half of the video I again go into redsn0w and select ios 6.0.1 ipsw (as 6.1.2 is not supported) and select boot and then again go through the process of getting into the DFU mode just to start the phone each time. So It'd be great if you could provide some kind of input as to what may be happening here. Thank You :)
This downgrade is tethered, meaning that you must go through that process every time you want to start up the phone unless you want to restore it back to iOS 7. The downgrade is tethered due to limited exploits for the iPhone 4. Untethered methods do exist, though they require a Mac.

It is tethered, but you need to plug it into iTunes with a SIM card to activate it.

it gives me an error saying to remove iTunes and put a 64-bit version on it and the version you want us to download is 64-bit.
Try downloading iTunes 10.6 from ipsw.me instead.

The phone had half battery percentage so I don’t think so, I hard to restore it back to iOS 7 and it works like normal but idk what went wrong

Ok quick update my problem is I can't get my iphone 4 into pwned dfu mode like when I perform dfu mode on my iphone 4 and I selected iphone 4 on ireb it's just exploiting with limera1n and instead of getting pwned dfu mode or black screen my iphone 4 boot up with an apple logo and it's no longer dfu mode how to fix this?
If your iPhone 4 is CDMA or a GSM-2012 model, then you need to use Redsn0w to enter pwned DFU mode.

iREB prefers Windows XP-7. However, you can still try Redsn0w to see if it works.

You might have used a bad iPSW, or it is just in a boot loop, or it is booting.
i keep running into "iPhone requires iTunes 11.1 or later" error message. I have tried it on a clean install on both Windows 7 & 10. Is there a way around this?
That is normal. On iOS 7, your iPhone will not be able to connect to iTunes 10, but if you enter DFU mode and downgrade your iPhone 4, iTunes will work with it.

It is ethical to bypass Activation Lock on an iPhone 4 because even if it was stolen, it would have been years regardless.

Just do not update your iPhone and the version will stay.

Hello, I was wondering if I can update my iPhone 4 back to iOS 7.1.2 and repeat this procedure.
This is because I downgraded to iOS 6.1 (10B144), and as far as I’m aware there are no jailbreaks for this version of iOS. So if downgraded to iOS 5.1.1 I could jailbreak the phone and download apps on it.

I have done every step without issues but , when I click on "Boot Tethered" and go into DFU mode it just says to me "Exploit Failed"

Nope, that will not work. You must select the iPSW first.
Update: It now sometimes says missing keys plistsdata for this build, I keep retrying to no avail.

Try running Redsn0w as an administrator, or try an older version of Windows. There is an untethered method (though in my experence, it only works with iOS 5 and 6.), but it requires a Mac.

@@win_aqua Did you run the VM in VirtualBox or VMWare? VirtualBox usually doesn’t work for downgrades.

Have you tried holding down the power and home button until the Apple logo comes up? It can take quite a while for the Apple logo to come up when exiting DFU mode. Do the power and home buttons work on it?

Don't know why but this downgrading process is hard and complicated than I expected but I have a few questions to fix the following errors
1. When I trying to exploit my iphone 4 on redsn0w the message is: "exploit failed"
2. When I try to restore my iphone 4 on itunes it keeps giving me errors like "An unknown error occurred (20) message on itunes which I don't like
3. When I use ireb the message is like it was success and the iphone is not black screen which is I don't like
Now I am kinda disappointed about this method but I'll find a way just to install win7 cuz I'm currently using win11 so I think that was a problem

3) Your iPhone is supposed to be on a black screen after entering owned DFU mode with iREB, as that is how you know it worked!

You may have an install of iTunes that is bad. Try reinstalling iTunes, and verifying it is for the right Windows architecture.
