NO LIE. The free brush that comes with the Van Gogh set is a perfect little detail brush. It' lives in my regular pencil case for good. That point is INSANE. I wish Van Gogh would sell it as a separate item as I'd like a bunch of backups.
I have been watching art-tube for goodness knows how long and no one, not one person has mentioned this water pooling situation with the Cotman field kit. Everyone raved about the box ( not the paints) and I was going to buy it just for the box! Thank god I didn’t because Your review floated past my algorithm and I clicked ! Also the fact that the colours that arrive are not as per listing? Insane. Very good insight about students buying it for classes. 🙏🏽❤️
The small Sennelier has two greens instead of an additional cool red. I took out the lighter green and added a proper red from a tube. Now it’s a useful little palette to take along, but one needs an additional mixing palette. A white plate can do the trick. I bought 15 colour sets Van Gogh for my class, it takes up little space and the kids love them. Love the White Nights lavender set, they are lovely watercolours for quick casual sketches.
@ Well, as it is the most available brand where I live, I’d say Schmincke. I was lucky enough to win a 24 full pan set of Horadam when I was 17, and I still have it. Of course I had to replace some pans more than once, but I love that set and go back to it very often. 🥰
Hi, I've not watched any other video of yours, but just subscribed based on this 1 video. It's exactly what I've been wanting to know!!! What is a really good mostly lightfast set!! Thank you!!!
🌷 Welcome! I don’t know of a ready-made set which is 100% lightfast. If you’re going for that, I would make my own by choosing individual lightfast colors from Blick, Jackson’s, or whatever art store is easiest for you to order from.
Hi! I haven’t tried Rosa because other reviews put me off. Specifically, the lightfast ratings on several colors are wrong and their color selection in the Amazon sets is more opaque than I’d like. But! Jackson’s has started carrying them open stock, so I’ll order a few colors to give them a test drive. Stay tuned. 😊
Is PR242 too bad in lightfastness? Handprint rates it as I or excellent,. BWS says it,s 7-8 . Has it changed overtime? Though according to bruce, it dulls on the bluish, but why did he ned to rate it excellent? It’s confusing. Hehe
Hi, Allan! First, I adore your channel. Thanks for visiting me 😊. Here’s what Kim Crick has to say about PR242: “This pigment may vary slightly by brand. It's also more or less stable depending on the amount diluted. It appears to be very sensitive once it hits about 20% pigment to 80% water ratio. It appears to go from borderline lightfast when in masstone or slightly diluted, to completely fugitive when very diluted.” This link shows the fading she experienced in diluted swatches: www.kimcrick.com/pages/fugitive-pigments-list-lightfast-test-problems-art-supplies Hope this helps. I think Kim has stepped back due to health problems, but the tests she’s posted so far are really useful!
Love the Pretty Excellent paint, I've even got the 36 tube set. I know right away it's not going to be lightfast, I use it for experiments and practice. It's good enough but cheap enough to play around and even waste. The Paul Rubens 4th generation, tube set is very nice. I love it. It's at the same level as Holbien in my opinion.
Well, there’s this saying in photography that the best camera is the one with you when the light happens. I don’t think any of these sets are perfect, but for the journals I use and my personal style, I like Art Whale best these days. If I were going to paint more finished pieces to gift, then the White Nights 35 set would be better because they’ve been independently lightfast tested. If you’re not limited to Amazon and not a beginner, I recommend getting individual colors from Blick or Jackson’s. I especially like certain choices from Isaro, Jackson’s house brand (pans only), Sennelier, etc.
The hand poured 24 pan set from Daniel Smith is awesome. I know it’s not part of your review but it is awesome. I got it on sale. Like painting with butter. I also got a bonus tin in addition to the tin that came with the paints.
Do you print these pages with some sort of waterproof ink or is that your handwriting. I love your swatch cards you make they are my favourite from any creator

Cool! I’ll give it another try. The tiny Sennelier brush is my favorite of the brushes which came with various sets. Again, a perfect point!
I agree with Alejandro. Great little retracble brush.
I was listening to this as I fell asleep - nothing like good ole pigment chit chat to lull me to sleep, but now I am ‘watching’ it.😛

Excellent, super useful video. Thank you!

Good idea with the Aqua Mini set. Sounds like we’ve tried a lot of the same sets. What is your favorite ready-made set overall?

Thank you for this. Your excellent explanation helps to learn about the watercolors we use. I really appreciate it.
You’re so welcome. Thanks for watching!

Great video lots of valuable information. I was waiting for the Rosa Gallery watercolour review. Have you tried them?

Thanks so much for all the info, I am new in watercolor ( since July/24) and I need that. Still a lot to learn.😄😘😘😘

Thank you for the amazing video! If you had to choose one set, what would it be?

Thank you for taking the time to answer this question. I get so much out of all your videos!

Thank you! Yes, I print them on watercolor paper with an Epson WorkForce Pro printer. The ink is waterproof.
Love your review. I wish I saw this earlier since I am jstill learning
Nice comparison 😊
New subscriber, 😊thank you ❤
🌷 Welcome!
I got the cotman set, was very annoyed that it came with 2 yellow ochre and 2 sap green.
Oooh, that’s even worse! Fewer colors to try. I just don’t understand that business model on their part.
🙏
I think van Gogh are much better than Winsor & Newton Cotmans.
Do't like Cotman's just irritates me, started with Mei Liang and I still like them for just messing around.
