I recently drove an amazingly perfect replica of the DeLorean time machine from Back to the Future. Here's what it's like.

I did actually daily mine for years. Even delivered pizza with it for a couple years. Sheer torture on any vehicle...but the DMC did fine. Still own it. Still have more fun in my DMC than my Audi S5.
The DMC's reputation is 95% myth, 5% fact. Just something you have to live with if you own one.

i think they care more about "will shit fall off" then anything else. i don't know of an insurance policy that would faint if you mod the engine... roadside assistance might be an issue though. but anyway.

RIZZY H they wouldn't, but they don't want to be sued if your vehicle losses a bumper driving down the road and kills someone, or if your botched break upgrade fails. it's risk.

Holy crap! I think I hurt my head facepalming that hard when I heard her say that. How many times did Marty say “son of a bitch!” Yep! Disney. Forget the universal logo, just going to Universal studios, they still have the delorean there, even though the ride is long gone. But hey, Stephen Spielberg and Robert Zemeckis... ...they worked together on Roger Rabbit, right? That’s sort of Disney. ...Touchstone. Universal also released American Tail, another great film people constantly claim is Disney. ...at least that was a family friendly animated classic.

Shroomie true, but back to my Roger Rabbit comment, they could’ve just released it as a Touchstone film. Early 80s though, Disney was basically on the brink of bankruptcy, and was nearly bought up by other companies, so I think they were just stuck in there “what would Walt do?” phase and didn’t want to try anything new. But they released Roger Rabbit AND Nightmare Before Christmas under the Touchstone label because they did not want parents thinking it was rated G child friendly. Roger Rabbit has A LOT of adult situations, and Nightmare Before Christmas, that wanted to market it has something more scary, that adults and teens would love.
@@UmmYeahOk very true. They could have released it on touchstone and missed a chance at having a huge hit but who knows if it would have ended up as the same movie. For example would disney have allowed them to recast the role of marty after filming for weeks with eric stoltz and let them reshoot with micheal j fox. Would they have studio note the movie to death. It could have ended up as a very different movie plus alot of the movies charm for me was using the universal back lot as hill valley. The clock tower and such were kind of iconic and make me instantly think of BTTF when i see that movie set, along with gremlins.

I don't know why some DMC fans upset because of replicas. Without the movie noone would know this car even exist. In it's genuine form the DeLorean is a crap. At least this one looks badass.

But they have gull-wing doors... And a 100hp engine on a somewhat mediocre transmission in a heavy vehicle. My little putt-putt car with 88 hp puts roughly the power to weight ratio on the ground and my transmission could let me out drag race a stock Delorean but it would have a higher top speed due to my speed limiter at 92.

Funny that this video was brought up. Just two days ago, my (much younger) coworker and I were discussing the movie (and the DeLorean). He was wondering why they picked 88mph for the movie, and I told him that many cars in the 80's (including that PRV V6 DeLorean) could barely get up to 88mph in a reasonable amount of time/space.

So many people whining about how shitty of a car this is, as if the point of it is to be a dependable commuter.
It's shit all around not just in terms of reliability. The only good part was it's interior and now it looks like shit too
vinul g it was not unreliable, it's got the mechanicals of a Volvo and out of 9000 built 6500 are known to still exist, could be more, that's not bad for a car that age. You know nothing.
Guy Rodger hmmm, I wonder how many would be left if it wasn't in a world renowned movie. The gull-wing doors often leaked on the passenger side, has like 140 HP(allegedly), terrible mpg, slow, not even close to a sports car, crappy build quality everywhere. Keep in mid this car was 4 grand less than a Ferrari 308gtb which had 260 hp. I guess it's cool if you want to drive around with air conditioning vents on the trunk but other than that it was a complete bust
vinul g delorean fans never reject the influence back to the future had on the car's notoriety, it would be stupid too. The Bricklin was forgotten and was a similar car: gullwing doors, built outside the US for sale in the US. Nobody knows what a Bricklin is. As for the rest of it, I don't know why specifically the passenger side, it's symmetrical and my Delorean has the original seals and doesn't leak. The engine was poor granted, but that was mostly due to US emission regulations of the time meaning it had a very awkward exhaust layout with a very restrictive catalytic converter. Before the company folded they were testing a 2.5 twin turbo Delorean which was tested to be faster than all of its rivals, it's quite a common engine swap these days. Again, with a modern exhaust system it returns pretty acceptable MPG but if you look at a Delorean and wonder what MPG it gets I think you're missing the point of them. Also I'd like to point out John Delorean described this car as a sports GT, not an out and out performance car.

I kinda wish Doug still did (or would do more) interviews of the car's owner. I understand they normally aren't likely to have as interesting of stories as this guy does, but Doug's reactions are so genuine and enjoyable.

You're both wrong. It can do up to 120mph. (About 209km/h, but you have to remember it gonna take a long time. DMC does 0-60 in 9 seconds).

Not to be a "that guy" but if you're gonna drive around with the hover board in the seat, you also need the Mr. Fusion mod installed if you want to be completely accurate.

anyway, I thing the design of the car, the music, the pop culture elements have aged a lot better than the actual stories of the movies. I still think the sequels are more interesting than the original (mostly a '50s nostalgia flick, hell even pre-R&R '50s!)

Side note, not to nit pick or anything but he said this was the first movie, roll out the trailer first time we see it version but yet there's a hoverboard from BTTF:2 lol just had to say it lol the guy did one hell of a job making it so movie accurate, took alot of time and dedication to not only make this movie accurate as far as looks but even the sounds are just spot on its incredible..I remember being a kid and this was my first real movie car crush hahah when people had pictures of Lamborghini Countach's on their wall, there I was right next to the smaller Countach poster a big movie poster of BTTF DeLorean and man I thought they looked sooooo fast I thought woah that thing would smoke a Lamborghini..man was my heartbroken when a friend of the family had a DeLorean and I got a ride and finally realized how heavy, clunky, and just underpowered they truly were. Standing still they look like they could do 150+ ..starts moving and you realize man Marty musta had a hell of a time getting this tank up to 88mph😂😂 Marty Mcfly you sir are a true legend!
