My take on Vi "walking away" from powder, like a lot of other people, is that Vi had realized just how out of control she was in that moment, and that she could hurt powder even more if she stayed. So she walked away to calm down and clear her head to deal with the situation rationally. If Silco and Marcus hadn't shown up, I think Vi would've definitely gone back for powder.
I find it hard to believe anyone in Vi's shoes could have said anything positive to Powder after their father figure and their friends all just died horribly (although I do wish she didn't punch her). These are kids trying to navigate their way through very adult situations, and I don't think any of them were equipped with the experience to handle the situation in i guess a healthier manner (?) Anyways, I feel so bad for them both
Nobody expected her to be miss rainbow support. But she lost it. She went too far. She did not just hit her and call her a Jinx. She did not just abandon (momentarily, i know) a crying child that was screaming in agony for a simple hug. She left her alone. And Silco could have killed her before she could have stopped him even without Marcus. She fucked up just after Vander told her to take care of her. And he was dying. She is the oldest. As Vander said, when somebody looks up to you, you don't get to be selfish. Same with him telling her that her fist would not solve problems, but create more. That scene had so much foreshadowing... Don't get me wrong, I get it. She is young. She is also hurting. And she is human. And maybe some of us would have done the same. What she did is understandable. But it was wrong. It was a mistake. You can fuck up without blame. Making a mistake is not a sin. It is not an evil doing. A mistake is a mistake. Unwilling, perhaps. But it is a mistake. There is a difference between blame and responsibility. You can not condemn her, but you cant absolve her either. In the end, it all lays in that opening scene on the bridge. People have identified the scars in Powder, the abandonment issues, but there are scars in Vi too. That look of hate at Piltover when Vander took them in bridged beautifully to the after credits, when vengeful Vi led her family to Piltover to steal from them to get back at them. That action started all the trouble for Vander and the undercity. That reckless action bought them all to this. And her one way decision to give herself up, as honourable at it is and as well meant as it was, gave Silco the upperhand and forced Vander´s hand. And this will not be the last time she fucks up. Because Vi is a take action girl. She is filled with hate and hurt that she can only express with violence and action. She is not very good at sharing, opening up and thinking things trough. She is as much traumatized as Powder. Her trauma just manifest in a different way. This is what happens when you oppress people to the point that two orphans have to be witness to the dead bodies of their parents amid a sea of corpses. Both sisters are haunted by that day. The monster you created indeed.
I loved from a viewer stand point that Vi smacked Powder because that was a genuine reaction from someone like her. Someone that would grow up from a slum area like that. People living comfortable lives judging that action as if they could in anyway relate to a person like her. It is supposed to illicit that feeling in you but also come across and real.
@@Dacre1000 Vi knew that she went too far. That's why she created space between her. Seeing Powder's blood on her fist made her wake up from her rage. Haven't you felt like you had to create space between you and your friend or family whenever you had a big fight?
A thing that I absolutely adore about the scene where Silco adopts Powder is that the writers managed to make it crystal clear that Silco took her in solely out of compassion: he has no indication whatsoever that she caused the explosion or that she might be of any kind of use to him. She became his daughter the moment she touched that soft spot of his. It's so so refreshing, considering the amount of villains that are just plain toxic parental figures to the kid/s they take care of, or at the very least make you wonder whether or not they actually care (like Viren from The Dragon Prince...which, by the way, I think would be friends with Silco).

What adds to the absolute heart wrench of Powder ruining the entire operation is that right before it explodes we get brief shots of all of them completing their jobs. Vi makes it into the room after buying time and keeps the door shut. Mylo finishes unlocking Vander's restraints. Claggor finishes busting an escape hole. If Powder never showed up, that entire mission would've been a *complete* success. No casualties.
I absolutely do not believe they would have escaped. A fast, murderous shimmer beast was almost through a door that had to be held by Vi and Vander while a way to start climbing was only just opened up. I suspect perhaps Vander or one of the kids would have lived. The most important thing Vander said to Vi was that she knew, but she didn't know; when she committed to this operation, she committed them to it too. Which she beats herself up over. There was never a happy ending for it. We are unsure what ending would have been happiest. They're all just kids ultimately and none of them deserve the full burden of the fault. A true tragedy, rightly written.
@Raul Sauceda If Powder didn't come, there's no guarantee they'd escape. We can even see how high it was when Vander stabbed and fell before getting the glow. The lady that called Vander 'weak', wasn't in Vander's gang. Vander didn't have a gang or group. He just had a bar and the respect of much of the undercity making him a defacto leader. People came to the bar for both protection and to air grievances, ally and adversary. She didn't turn on him, because there was never any reason to believe she was ever with Vander. Some cool visual parallels in this episode Silco drowning in the intro with Powder falling off the side of the building after the monkey bomb finally worked.
Poor powder. 😭. Yea those crucial moments when vi talks to powder. it’s amazing how just one moment can change and mean everything and boy the consequences are felt.
Two subtle things on how the show sets up Powder's abandonment: - Notice that Vander never speaks to Powder one on one, only with Vi. Powder is always addressed as part of the group. - When it turns out that Powder is actually good at something (she's a good sniper) nobody acknowledges that, which is especially bad if your negative traits are always thrown in your face.
Incredible how you analyzed Vi's growth as a character in these few episodes. A lot of people miss the fact that these few episodes cause a change in Vi.
I've only got to the part just past the drowning monologue - and your observations about purpose are honestly so insightful. You've earned a subscriber in me.
It all got so tragic so fast, she HAD to put the highly explosive and letal monkey right next to the door instead of literally anywhere else away from her people.
When I was younger, I've seen a movie called 'Not Another Teen Movie'. As a side character there was a dude, who was recording anything, and he had a plastic bag randomly flying around him all the time somehow. Your trophy watermelon gives me same vibes, my man. Good stuff
My favorite author once said that heroes are defined by their weaknesses and villains by their strengths. Silco's main characteristic is his sheer grit and willingness to go beyond the pale. Meanwhile Vander has his achilles heel of compromise and Vi, as you identified, is still somewhat naive. I appreciate them more because of their flaws, so I'm glad to see someone else talk about that. Anyway I'm sure I'm preaching to the choir, your analysis is on point as always.
Silco was a great 'rule of cool' archetypal villain in the 1st couple episodes, but between his backstory, his motivations, and that hug at the end, this episode really elevates him to a new level of complexity and intrigue. Such a great villain, and such great character writing, all around 👍
If you haven't watched episode 6 yet, you should watch the music video of "Enemy".. before episode 6. There is a part of the MV that can give a bit more depth to something that happens in that episode
its hard to judge here...I honestly feel worse for Vi, Powder is too young to realize and process the situation, she is gonna villify whoever left her. Vi on the other hand is old enough to realize that her closest person killed her family by a mistake....can you get over it? Can you forgive that? How do you move on? I personally cannot imagine being Vi in that situation. I dont think anyone d be able to just hug Powder and say something positive when Powder is the reason why your whole life just fell apart.
I really dont remember any other time when we saw you so shocked and in pain as with Milo's death. This show is loaded with meaning and messages, you are gonna have so much fun as the story moves foward, and by fun I mean endless overanalizing pauses every episode :P
It's quite amazing how well written this tragegy is for now in my opinion. You can notice a lot of mistake the characters make, but I also feel like It's completely within their characters to make those mistakes
What an absolute DISASTER of a night for everyone involved. Just like, yikes. Your face at 15:49 really sums it up perfectly. Poor Powder. Poor Vi. Poor Vander. Poor Mylo and Claggor. Poor Ekko. Poor everybody. A complete and utter mess for the whole gang.
I don't really blame Powder or Vi, they reacted like any kid would after all one is 14 and the other is around 10, there was no positive way to end that scene, even if Vi stayed and didn't say that to Powder Silco would've either killed both in the spot or chase them everywhere until he found them and still murder them. The saddest thing is that they were just seconds away from escaping that place.
This ep got me to arcane. I saw the shocked thumbnail of reactors i watch plus the title episode and i knew it went bad so i had to check this show..end up binging it 😂 powder is my favorite
Kinda surprising on ep 3 he's still saying "ve" Edit: 8:15 then he calls Victor "Ivan". That makes a little more sense tho as he has only had his name introduced last episode.
@@PurpleCyanideTube LMFAO yeah hes trying to trigger dumb people who dont understand the joke, ppl getting mad abt it and correcting him is what makes it funny.
Vi and Powder both deserve sympathy but there's a crucial difference between them. Powder ended up killing them all but it was a genuine mistake with no ill intent however Vi's words to Powder were meant specifically to hurt her. It's perfectly understandable for Vi to react that way don't get me wrong but between the two of them, only one side purposefully hurt the other that night which is where the feeling of betrayal comes from.
“Say something positive!” Bro HOW?!😂 They were about to escape and Vi had to watch everybody she cared about get killed by the one person she’s been trying to protect the entire show lol. I imagine Vi feels worse because where Power lost 1 person (Vi), Vi lost 4. Not only that, but Vi has advocated for Powder the entire show, and she couldn’t listen the ONE time Vi didn’t want her to come with her, FOR HER OWN SAFETY. I know she’s a child but it just comes off as incredible selfish and I honestly sympathize with Vi so much more than Powder
The thing is that VI also shound't have gone, when she see powder blood on her won hand (and the camera makes the same angle as in Vander sermon in ep 1) what Vander was tryng say finaly sinks in.
Her reaction was understandable but doesn't mean it was the right thing to do. She could have at least not punched the girl in the face for starters. A lot of it was Vi's projected guilt.
@@AGoodwinTV I guess. But I feel like as viewers it’s easier for us to say because we saw the events building up from both sides at the same time. Idk about you guys but no matter how old or close someone is to me, if I find out they killed my family while I was JUST about to save them, I’d punch them too lol. And let’s not forget that sure Powder is a kid, but so is Vi. I think it’s a little unfair to think that Vi should be able to process her emotions perfectly in such a traumatic instance just because she’s a little older than her sister. I think that’s a perfectly normal and honestly healthy response from a child. I’d be a little scared of a kid acting that level headed after their entire family just got killed because of someone they loved and tried to defend.
Ik just the sound of it is displeasing bc its SO long, but i seriously so believe you'd enjoy the naruto series, alot of life lessons/symbolism to debunk
I've been side along watching this and honestly think way too much of what happened in this episode only happened cause it needed to. Jinx is insane, gotta make a reason for it (Failed, she was fine for two episodes, then randomly starts hitting her head and acting crazy for no reason). Vander and the boys aren't alive in the future, gotta kill them off. Silco hates Vander, got to show why, but then gives ZERO reason for the attempted murder. Vi and Jinx are enemies in the future, gotta give a reason for it, then makes the reason extremely silly and was 100% a snowball effect caused by other things that didn't make sense. I've seen people say the same things about this episode on forums just for people to respond with a youtube video of an armchair psychologist saying "Powder was mentally ill, it all makes sense, trust me." She was completely fine for 2 episodes, then you see her screaming like an insane person and hitting her head out of the blue for no reason. She even hug the person she saw try and kill her sister, adaptive brothers and her adoptive father.
I consider Vi's actions at the end to be basically a complete failure and beyond unacceptable. I can forgive the obscene cruelty she lays on her sister due to her shock and pain but her actual actions are monstrous. You can't abuse then leave your extremely young sister unattended by a dead body and a burning building which is in the process of being evacuated by people you KNOW intend to kill her. Not even for a couple of seconds. Its equivalent to leaving her standing in the middle of a freeway with active traffic but worse.
"She's going to show up and blow it"
Well yes, but also yes.
I don't think I've ever seen Alex more shocked before. The rest of the show is gonna be great :)

your analysis of Vi and hwo she differs from ep. 1 to now was great. this is what i missed!
"well that kid died but at least he got to be right about Powder" OMG lmao 😆😂
Loving the alternating brutal commentary and "oh no"s as the worst combination of events unfolds lol
"He's got that Ursula fish tank, right?"
"Is that Vander?! Something about that BEEFY figure,"
"Everyone needs purpose, and you ignore that need at your own peril,"
"Pish-posh, et cetera,"
"When you're facing what you feel is death, you've got nothing to lose,"
"Let's take this old fuddy-duddy out of the picture,"
"Hit 'em with this. Pepper shaker,"
"Suck it, Pocahontas,"
"If she were only to drink my Ursula juice,"
"We've done it. We have unlocked the power of moving things from where it was to where it would've gone anyway,"
"That kid died, but at least he got the chance to be right about Powder. So there's that."
Wow. Really solid insights in this reaction. Much respect, wise watermelon guy.
Your commentary is unlike any other ! Hoping you'll continue
Dude i've been following you since your Avatar reaction but almost everything you've covered so far is something i don't wanna spoil myself on :D this is the first thing i've watched since invincible and i've missed your takes on different motivations, certain directions a Character can go, your own personal thoughts and well thought out ways to describe certain view points i've been struggling to put in words, i feel like one can learn a lot from you, it's like an extremly chill therapy session and i love it lol
awesome commentary. Powders voice actor was 13 when she did this scene and she nailed it on the first take. Truly a great performance.
Some cool visual parallels in this episode
Silco drowning in the intro with Powder falling off the side of the building after the monkey bomb finally worked.
Poor powder. 😭. Yea those crucial moments when vi talks to powder. it’s amazing how just one moment can change and mean everything and boy the consequences are felt.
Welp, folks-
Goodwin sure called it
Two subtle things on how the show sets up Powder's abandonment:
- Notice that Vander never speaks to Powder one on one, only with Vi.
I need to make a collage of everyone's face when she says "Vi, it worked!". That wince you made was priceless
Powder put 4 crystals inside the monkey, so there were 5 that exploded all at the same time. That's why the blast was so devastating.
Silco was a great 'rule of cool' archetypal villain in the 1st couple episodes, but between his backstory, his motivations, and that hug at the end, this episode really elevates him to a new level of complexity and intrigue. Such a great villain, and such great character writing, all around 👍
“gonna give her a cheese grater?” lmfao 😂😂
This episode and the last song always make me bawl my eyes out.
ITS *THE* EPISODE
What made the rescue attempt hurt more was the fact Vander and crew could've escape without Powder's help
If you haven't watched episode 6 yet, you should watch the music video of "Enemy".. before episode 6. There is a part of the MV that can give a bit more depth to something that happens in that episode
you mean 7
its hard to judge here...I honestly feel worse for Vi, Powder is too young to realize and process the situation, she is gonna villify whoever left her.
Ah yes, my best friends, Jayce and... *looks at smudged writing on hand*... Ivan...
You know crap is going down when the Goodwin reaction is 20+ minutes long
I really dont remember any other time when we saw you so shocked and in pain as with Milo's death.
This show is loaded with meaning and messages, you are gonna have so much fun as the story moves foward, and by fun I mean endless overanalizing pauses every episode :P
poor powder. poor vi. :(
It's quite amazing how well written this tragegy is for now in my opinion. You can notice a lot of mistake the characters make, but I also feel like It's completely within their characters to make those mistakes
this episode is definitely the hook, it still gets better from here imo
What an absolute DISASTER of a night for everyone involved. Just like, yikes. Your face at 15:49 really sums it up perfectly. Poor Powder. Poor Vi. Poor Vander. Poor Mylo and Claggor. Poor Ekko. Poor everybody. A complete and utter mess for the whole gang.
Most of Silco's henchmen died, and they got hurt the most probably because they were in a tight space.
“Oh Oh”- 😂😂😂
It's not a cheeserazor, it's a flare. It's not to fight, it's to reconnect.
I liked Greyson. The voice actress is amazing. Hated that her character gets offed.
You are exactly the person I wanted to react to this!
Kept wanting to say "I am here" at the end.
16:28 I have never seen your head so messed up after watching a shocking scene. Like. It messed you up. MESSED YOU UP.
Nice ring tho 💍
Every episode gets better
yep pretty much
I don't really blame Powder or Vi, they reacted like any kid would after all one is 14 and the other is around 10, there was no positive way to end that scene, even if Vi stayed and didn't say that to Powder Silco would've either killed both in the spot or chase them everywhere until he found them and still murder them. The saddest thing is that they were just seconds away from escaping that place.
Having a new video of yours everyday is a great end of night
This ep got me to arcane. I saw the shocked thumbnail of reactors i watch plus the title episode and i knew it went bad so i had to check this show..end up binging it 😂 powder is my favorite
your reaction reminded me when you saw kaya almost stab gabi :v
This t is very relevant to a video I'm gonna post in the morning haha
VI’s reaction was a human reaction. Comforting someone after they just killed your only family is not.
Nothing profound, but the dog in your credits is adorable. 😊
Omg that thumbnail lmao
That's not a cheese grater or a weapon, its a flare. No spoilers, but there is a reason I'm pointing this out :)
i’m very curious, is that ring on for fun or did something special happen ,’:| ?
A bit of both, it's a couple ring my girlfriend and I made for Christmas. Couple clothing and jewelry is big in Korea
Ah yes I remember this part I was hooked
You should watch Dark, fun show :)
"This guys got his naggin' face on. Someones come to spoil the fun"
Kinda surprising on ep 3 he's still saying "ve"
Edit: 8:15 then he calls Victor "Ivan". That makes a little more sense tho as he has only had his name introduced last episode.
When he corrected himself and then kept saying it wrong, it went from kind of annoying to really funny lol
lol on patreon he is still calling her "ve" on episode 6, its hilarious he does this with a lot of shows lmao
@@JasmineTeaEnjoyer so he is trying to trigger people?
“Say something positive!”
Bro HOW?!😂 They were about to escape and Vi had to watch everybody she cared about get killed by the one person she’s been trying to protect the entire show lol.
Vi is pronounced like V-eye because it's short for Violet. it's not vee.
Hype^268
Where did episode 2 go lol
❤️
Congratulations on ripping off the bandaid. It’s gonna be a great time from here on out.
