Its interesting that we get a Caitlyn shower scene at the end of this episode but practically 0 fan service from it. So many other shows offer fanservice for no narrative purpose and this show is like, "Nah, the shower scene has nothing to do with Caitlyn being naked", even you understood the feeling they were trying to capture of her mulling over the convo she had with Vi.
a lot of the mining and fishing colonies are from the Undercity. They don't show it much in the show but Zaun consists of most of the "blue collar" workers

The thing about Mel's flashback in this episode, she was looking at another version of herself in that girl royal, if her mother had ever failed as a warlord than it would of been Mel's head being chopped off. She was so traumatized by that event that years later she painted a memory of it and hung it over her own bed.
Originally, Piltover and Zaun were one city built on the River Pilt, a location that allows access from the open Ionian Sea to almost the entire rest of the world. Imagine being built on the Panama Canal. But as time went on, Zaun lagged further behind. (i might be wrong i havent brushed up on my lore in a long long time)

Jayce, however, is one of only 3 champions in the entire game which are exceptions to this and can switch freely between the two "stances". What I understood from Vi’s Conversation with Caitlyn, is that she is the monster that showed up because she punched powder, and when she realized that she couldn’t control her monster (her anger) she just ran away. You said it best about Vi, When are you going to stop running away.
also what i’m picking up from all the politics is that they don’t want to give Zaun independence because they’ll start war against Piltover. they could have helped them but Vi points out that the undercity hates them, that it’s too late to help them
It feels like theres a solid geopolitical reason not to have a hostile city on your border lest they work with Foreign empires (Noxians) etc. That said a civil war/revolution working with outsiders feels just as dangerous, better to hope for some sort of mutual external defence pact.

Jayce is a playable character in the League of Legends game. That thing is his actual weapon in the game, a hammer that turns into a kind of energy crossbow. He can switch between them in the game too. They portrayed it really well.

Imho, I don't think Vi is to be blamed for the first time when she failed to be there for Powder, but for the second time at that bridge, that's on her this time. I don't understand how it has to be Ekko who has to face Jinx. Vi is only one who could get through to her and fix their relationship. Worse, she left without saying anything to her... with her girlfriend who obviously is not looked fondly upon by Jinx yet! The original plan was to have Ekko face the council with Caitlyn. I don't see how that should change. It makes better sense that Ekko accompanies Caitlyn, as I don't believe he'll harm her. Vi knew this. She knew Ekko couldn't harm her. There's more damage for her to leave her sister than to leave her girlfriend, because the latter can be just temporary while the former is borderline irreparable. Vi leaving Jinx there basically sealed the deal for the end of their relationship despite blood related. It really felt like her priorities finally surfaced from her subconscious mind to reality, that in truth, she's thought of Powder as being a true jinx and it became a reality. Vi and Jinx didn't notice this until it was too late. It's sad how both of them still hoped for their bond to work like yonder days only for that last nail to be driven into that coffin by Vi herself. I'd love to blame Jinx for a lot, but that part of her tragic past makes it really hard.
So the Undercity provides labor for Piltover. We've heard of "the mines" a few times. It's not made abundantly clear, but you can make a guess make a wager that they are the workforce needed for Piltover to live in luxury
I watch so many reactors struggle understanding Mel but I don’t know why. Her mom is the explanation. She is torn between the ideology her mom espoused, between the wolf and the fox. She was banished because she rejects the wolf. Her entire drive is proving her mother wrong, that one can succeed in being the fox. She pushed for weapons as a fox, because a fox thinks weapons can be deterrents. A wolf knows that a weapon is only a deterrent after it has been used. Mel’s mom coming to push Piltover toward aggressive actions only strengthens her resolve to reject that path. Until her mom shows up, we see Mel as this sophisticated power player. When her mom appears, we understand from their framing, from her very first expression at seeing her mom, that her motivation is defiance of the way of the wolf. They underscore this in showing her nightmare, in what she chooses to paint.
People don't understand Mel because her mom isn't introduced until ep 8, and her mom's full motivations aren't revealed until ep 9. So of course reactors struggle to understand Mel in real time--how could they possibly do so without that information?
@@wynq I am speaking of once her mom is introduced. In this episode where I a commenting. She’s intentionally obfuscated before that. The writers give hints of her not just being a schemer before now (e.g. - her compassion when told the severity of Victor’s illness). But the opening flashback and the scene of her mom’s arrival were pretty clearly laying out her motivation and conflict. I think you’re taking my comment as criticism of his reaction. It isn’t.
Ekko and jinx scene from the last episode always makes me cry because they were really good friends and he watched her fall and become someone different but in that moment he saw his friend

Vi made the same mistake twice by the same action; rushing in. Though guided through different motives, worthiness and revenge. Not unlike Act 1 Silco... Which supposedly reached eaches ideal outcome: Zaun less dependent upon Piltover(essentially independent)/enriching their own, since those in power didn't consider their plight(Vi did state she wasn't satisfied with living in someone else's shadow). Inadvertently causing both cities to became dependent upon what each feared(Vander with Silco: Shimmer, Heimerdinger with Jayce and Viktor: Hextech). Through it all Vi grew being blinded by personal treachery and disillusioned by her own faults. Matching how Silco grew into what he felt necessary. Where each came in conflict simply over a shared love for one person; her sister Powder/his daughter Jinx.
I've never felt that Vi leaving Jinx in the previous encounter was her fault. I've always thought she took the correct course of action. Jinx didn't even hesitate to kill not only Caitlyn, but Vi as well. After that, Vi finally understood that the situation was far more complex than she initially realized. She understood that there was some truth to what Ekko said about Jinx. Vi needed time to process, thus leaving the encounter and eventually decides to take a different course of action to reach Jinx by attempting to destroy Silco's underground operation.
Shimmer may be used as a drug, but it also appears to be a power source. Sevika's arm runs on it, Jinx's gun seems to be firing purplish ammunition... There's a theme of power woven through the story like a constant thread. Hex tech is the Piltover power, Shimmer is the Undercity/Zaun power, and then there's the green power that you see used for everything inbetween, including the hoverboards the Firelights use.
For some insight into their League of Legend abilities: typically champions have 4 separate abilities, with 1 being their "ultimate". Jayce is one of the few who starts the game with their ultimate rather than having to wait until a later level, and allows him to swap from the hammer to the cannon. With his other abilities changing depending on the weapon's form. Vi's weapons are those gauntlets, and she punches things really hard.
Some League of Legends characters have the ability to "transform". Typically, each form has an advantage over the other, but some characters have limited time transformations that are basic upgrades to everything they do regularly. The most iconic transforming champions have unlimited time transformations that fill a separate niche to their other form's gameplay. Jayce, in League of Legends, is a transforming champion that has a melee form, and a ranged form, with no limit on how much time he can spend in either form, and the ability to swap almost fully at will. Both forms work well off each other, either he engages with melee, ending with knocking people away from him and swapping to ranged to finish them off, or engages from afar with ranged, which gives him a few separate movement speed buffs if played right, and does damage while getting close to finish off with the melee combo, or he can just sit back and poke you to death with exploding balls of blue electricity. Jayce is currently not considered the best champion, because he's weaker than average due to him being able to accomplish so many things with his abilities. Riot intentionally keeps him weak so he doesn't dominate games... which is an approach I wish they'd take with certain other characters. If you know, you know.
The answer to your question about League characters have multiple attack ranges. Most have a set attack range or melee. But there are a few that can swap between them with Jayce being one. You can swap between hammer and cannon stance. All the other range changing champs are shapeshifters, I.e. a sorceress(range) to a giant spider(melee), a huntress(ranged ) changes into a cougar(melee), and the last one being a prehistoric Yordle(Heimerdinger's) that was frozen in ice in the Freljord(Scandinavian based region) that has a range gene that causes him to grow in size and become melee when enraged.

Its strange how you keep implying silcos love is anything other than fatherly if you were to question how healthy the relationship is i doubt anyone would blame you but its 8 eps in and he's only displayed fatherly love nobody's saying it isn't toxic but its pretty odd to just assert that he's a creep without justifying that viewing of him when everything else points in the opposite direction
I'm assuming that the undercity provides the resources so piltover can be as opulent as it is. You don't get a city with that much metalwork without mines that the people of zaun working at. The Atlas gloves Jayce made were to make the work of miners easier. The labor and resources go up to the rich, but there's no trickle down economics going back down. The only thing trickling down is toxic sludge and poisoned water. I feel like he's being rather harsh on Vi considering her background. Her parents were killed by the Piltover cops when she was a child, loses her entire found family, and gets thrown into prison for several years where she gets beaten regularly for no reason. It's completely reasonable for her to have a chip on her shoulder about this, and being untrusting of authorities, and systems in power that have constantly let her down all her life. Being frustrated seems like a natural reaction.
Ekko is the polar opposite of Heimer, all he doess is for the present time and gives an absolute zero about the future, getting the most of every second because of the inminent mortality of not only being human but a Zaunite on top Heimer who's pretty much inmortal is constantly thinking and working on the long run since he has no time limit
City Independence politics is really complex its not just a case of "they want to be free" just look at Taiwan and Hong Kong in relation to China. The topside does also get a lot of benefits simply for being bigger having the undercity as part of them(Taxes, manpower and ETC).

Always loved your reactions and commentaries. I've been watching your reactions to shows I've watched since Korra and I usually agree with you. In this case I don't. I don't consider Vi made a mistake by leaving the bridge. Of course it was a shitty situation when she lost her temper and punched Powder in ep 3, but I don't think it's the same here. She almost killed Vi, intentionally or not, I do see reasonable she left to put Caitlyn and herself somewhere safe and she even had the intention to come back, as we see in this episode. I get annoyed by how many people always blame Vi of everything. Jinx is the one who is a murderer (even though I really sympathize with her and feel bad for her) but it always Vi the one people talk shit about. Not saying that you talked shit about her though, just that I don't agree with you in the part where you say she made the same mistake twice.

one thing to note is that Vi only knows how to Fight or Run. Vi was chloroformed by Marcus, she didn’t run, but she saw not fighting silco as running

Imho, I don't think Vi is to be blamed for the first time when she failed to be there for Powder, but for the second time at that bridge, that's on her this time. I don't understand how it has to be Ekko who has to face Jinx. Vi is only one who could get through to her and fix their relationship. Worse, she left without saying anything to her... with her girlfriend who obviously is not looked fondly upon by Jinx yet! The original plan was to have Ekko face the council with Caitlyn. I don't see how that should change. It makes better sense that Ekko accompanies Caitlyn, as I don't believe he'll harm her. Vi knew this. She knew Ekko couldn't harm her. There's more damage for her to leave her sister than to leave her girlfriend, because the latter can be just temporary while the former is borderline irreparable. Vi leaving Jinx there basically sealed the deal for the end of their relationship despite blood related. It really felt like her priorities finally surfaced from her subconscious mind to reality, that in truth, she's thought of Powder as being a true jinx and it became a reality. Vi and Jinx didn't notice this until it was too late. It's sad how both of them still hoped for their bond to work like yonder days only for that last nail to be driven into that coffin by Vi herself. I'd love to blame Jinx for a lot, but that part of her tragic past makes it really hard.

So the Undercity provides labor for Piltover. We've heard of "the mines" a few times. It's not made abundantly clear, but you can make a guess make a wager that they are the workforce needed for Piltover to live in luxury
I watch so many reactors struggle understanding Mel but I don’t know why. Her mom is the explanation. She is torn between the ideology her mom espoused, between the wolf and the fox. She was banished because she rejects the wolf. Her entire drive is proving her mother wrong, that one can succeed in being the fox. She pushed for weapons as a fox, because a fox thinks weapons can be deterrents. A wolf knows that a weapon is only a deterrent after it has been used. Mel’s mom coming to push Piltover toward aggressive actions only strengthens her resolve to reject that path. Until her mom shows up, we see Mel as this sophisticated power player. When her mom appears, we understand from their framing, from her very first expression at seeing her mom, that her motivation is defiance of the way of the wolf. They underscore this in showing her nightmare, in what she chooses to paint.
People don't understand Mel because her mom isn't introduced until ep 8, and her mom's full motivations aren't revealed until ep 9. So of course reactors struggle to understand Mel in real time--how could they possibly do so without that information?
@@wynq I am speaking of once her mom is introduced. In this episode where I a commenting. She’s intentionally obfuscated before that. The writers give hints of her not just being a schemer before now (e.g. - her compassion when told the severity of Victor’s illness). But the opening flashback and the scene of her mom’s arrival were pretty clearly laying out her motivation and conflict.

Vi made the same mistake twice by the same action; rushing in. Though guided through different motives, worthiness and revenge. Not unlike Act 1 Silco... Which supposedly reached eaches ideal outcome: Zaun less dependent upon Piltover(essentially independent)/enriching their own, since those in power didn't consider their plight(Vi did state she wasn't satisfied with living in someone else's shadow). Inadvertently causing both cities to became dependent upon what each feared(Vander with Silco: Shimmer, Heimerdinger with Jayce and Viktor: Hextech). Through it all Vi grew being blinded by personal treachery and disillusioned by her own faults. Matching how Silco grew into what he felt necessary. Where each came in conflict simply over a shared love for one person; her sister Powder/his daughter Jinx.
The undercity(or Zaun) has mines. A big chunk of piltovers economy is based there.
I've never felt that Vi leaving Jinx in the previous encounter was her fault. I've always thought she took the correct course of action. Jinx didn't even hesitate to kill not only Caitlyn, but Vi as well. After that, Vi finally understood that the situation was far more complex than she initially realized. She understood that there was some truth to what Ekko said about Jinx. Vi needed time to process, thus leaving the encounter and eventually decides to take a different course of action to reach Jinx by attempting to destroy Silco's underground operation.
Shimmer may be used as a drug, but it also appears to be a power source. Sevika's arm runs on it, Jinx's gun seems to be firing purplish ammunition...
There's a theme of power woven through the story like a constant thread. Hex tech is the Piltover power, Shimmer is the Undercity/Zaun power, and then there's the green power that you see used for everything inbetween, including the hoverboards the Firelights use.

For some insight into their League of Legend abilities: typically champions have 4 separate abilities, with 1 being their "ultimate". Jayce is one of the few who starts the game with their ultimate rather than having to wait until a later level, and allows him to swap from the hammer to the cannon. With his other abilities changing depending on the weapon's form.
Vi's weapons are those gauntlets, and she punches things really hard.

Some League of Legends characters have the ability to "transform". Typically, each form has an advantage over the other, but some characters have limited time transformations that are basic upgrades to everything they do regularly. The most iconic transforming champions have unlimited time transformations that fill a separate niche to their other form's gameplay. Jayce, in League of Legends, is a transforming champion that has a melee form, and a ranged form, with no limit on how much time he can spend in either form, and the ability to swap almost fully at will.
Both forms work well off each other, either he engages with melee, ending with knocking people away from him and swapping to ranged to finish them off, or engages from afar with ranged, which gives him a few separate movement speed buffs if played right, and does damage while getting close to finish off with the melee combo, or he can just sit back and poke you to death with exploding balls of blue electricity. Jayce is currently not considered the best champion, because he's weaker than average due to him being able to accomplish so many things with his abilities. Riot intentionally keeps him weak so he doesn't dominate games... which is an approach I wish they'd take with certain other characters. If you know, you know.

The answer to your question about League characters have multiple attack ranges. Most have a set attack range or melee. But there are a few that can swap between them with Jayce being one. You can swap between hammer and cannon stance. All the other range changing champs are shapeshifters, I.e. a sorceress(range) to a giant spider(melee), a huntress(ranged ) changes into a cougar(melee), and the last one being a prehistoric Yordle(Heimerdinger's) that was frozen in ice in the Freljord(Scandinavian based region) that has a range gene that causes him to grow in size and become melee when enraged.
Great reaction, Even tho it was short lived Vi and Jayce made a really badass duo. What do you think about Vi and Cait? Do u like them together and how the show portrayed their growing relationship. I thought they were really cute and were a potential gay couple done right ( especially for a western animated show ).

You came up with some real gems this episode - Vi's repeated mistake/redemption , getting a second arc, Mel's complexity, the paired strengths AND flaws between Jayce and Vi. I have really missed your commentary so much! I wish this series had more episodes b/c I haven't seen any of the ones you're watching atm. Have you considered reacting to live action series like The Mandalorian or do you prefer to stick with animation?

Being impatient and jumping into things is pretty much Vi's side of mistakes in the show from Act 1 to 3.
Its strange how you keep implying silcos love is anything other than fatherly if you were to question how healthy the relationship is i doubt anyone would blame you but its 8 eps in and he's only displayed fatherly love nobody's saying it isn't toxic but its pretty odd to just assert that he's a creep without justifying that viewing of him when everything else points in the opposite direction

I'm assuming that the undercity provides the resources so piltover can be as opulent as it is. You don't get a city with that much metalwork without mines that the people of zaun working at. The Atlas gloves Jayce made were to make the work of miners easier. The labor and resources go up to the rich, but there's no trickle down economics going back down. The only thing trickling down is toxic sludge and poisoned water.
I feel like he's being rather harsh on Vi considering her background. Her parents were killed by the Piltover cops when she was a child, loses her entire found family, and gets thrown into prison for several years where she gets beaten regularly for no reason. It's completely reasonable for her to have a chip on her shoulder about this, and being untrusting of authorities, and systems in power that have constantly let her down all her life. Being frustrated seems like a natural reaction.
In league of legends Jayce can swap from ranged to melee. The swapping is his ultimate ability
Ekko is the polar opposite of Heimer, all he doess is for the present time and gives an absolute zero about the future, getting the most of every second because of the inminent mortality of not only being human but a Zaunite on top
Heimer who's pretty much inmortal is constantly thinking and working on the long run since he has no time limit

City Independence politics is really complex its not just a case of "they want to be free" just look at Taiwan and Hong Kong in relation to China. The topside does also get a lot of benefits simply for being bigger having the undercity as part of them(Taxes, manpower and ETC).

Always loved your reactions and commentaries. I've been watching your reactions to shows I've watched since Korra and I usually agree with you. In this case I don't. I don't consider Vi made a mistake by leaving the bridge. Of course it was a shitty situation when she lost her temper and punched Powder in ep 3, but I don't think it's the same here. She almost killed Vi, intentionally or not, I do see reasonable she left to put Caitlyn and herself somewhere safe and she even had the intention to come back, as we see in this episode. I get annoyed by how many people always blame Vi of everything. Jinx is the one who is a murderer (even though I really sympathize with her and feel bad for her) but it always Vi the one people talk shit about. Not saying that you talked shit about her though, just that I don't agree with you in the part where you say she made the same mistake twice.
