The look he gives Ubbe at 5:41 is like he recognizes his younger self in him and sees the lack of fear in Ubbe.
This is the difference between someone who’s been to war and someone who hasn’t. One has seen so much death that he is not scared of anything and the other has only talked about it and heard about it and plays about it. You can tell a big difference in the army between those who have been deployed and those who haven’t. This scene was awesome. The guy who played Ragnar should get an award he was great in this series.
Ragnar is prepared for death. He wouldnt have minded if one of his sons had killed him and became king because he knew he had abandoned his duty as king
He wanted to prove the Seer wrong. That was his reason for testing them.
You aren't lying about that! There was definitely a noticeable difference in the Army between those who were deployed and those werent/hadn't been yet.
@odin gave his eye to acquire knowledge experience will win every time. Also there is a big difference in the demeanor and the skill of a tested veteran and some one who has never actually been to war.
@odin gave his eye to acquire knowledge Well I spent 7 years in the army and ive been to war and im telling you there is a difference

Bjorn is Ragnars eldest son, he knows what Bjorn is capable of, and you see the respect that they have for one another, he knows Bjorn can damage him but not kill him, he knows Bjorn is already a man and possible king, that's why I think when Bjorn comes on the scene Ragnar just stands back with I sign of respect for his eldest, having known him the longest
When he sees others, he sees kids who are not ready for war but when he sees Bjorn he sees a man. That is the difference.
@@kardiacc big facts i love the admiration they have for one another its a beautiful thing

U hit the nail on the head i was gonna post the same shit
Ragnar definitely felt Bjorn coming, his facial expression changed
The way he says ‘and I just left!’ 😂😂😂
I don’t think a lot of people realise the point of this scene. He’s testing all of his sons to see who has become a man in his absence. The moment Ragnar charges up to his sons when the bass drops, it’s like an alpha wolf challenging other wolves of his pack. What’s interesting is when he approaches Ubbe (whose name actually means wolf) he aggravates him and he does not back down hence the cold stare he gives Ragnar back.
Now, Ubbe, being the sigma male (lone wolf) of all the sons is the only one to step up and face him. Which is foreshadowing of his character as he’s the only son that wasn’t driven by power or fame. He’s defiant and refuses to play by the hierarchy of the Viking ways.
''sigma male'' 💀

@@philliesfan3414 thanks mate!
@another time later how?
@another time later Sigurd was killed before we saw his true potential. But from what we saw, he was indeed heading in that direction.
Do not forget it was his idea to assemble The Great Heathen Army, with one purpose, to conquer England. That is a clear indication that he was ambitious and that he sought fame and glory.
Hvitserk is complex - throughout the seasons he didn’t showcase ambition to be a leader or to be an adventurer, like Bjorn or Ivar. He enjoyed raiding and fighting. He was troubled from the abuse of Ivar and the guilt of killing Lagertha, which leads to his addictions. However, in season 6 when he goes to Bjorns gravestone he contemplates his life and realises that he “doesn’t anything with his life”. Only then he is visited by the goddess Idun, who gives him purpose. That’s when he discovers what and who he was meant to be, a warrior. One of the most fearsome, which is evident in the way he fights (a beserker) he reaches his prime towards the end of season 6. Through his fighting ways, he achieves the fame and recognition he always sought, in the final battle all the Saxons try to exhaust him. And they yell “it’s the son of Ragnar!” “Get him! Get Hvitserk!” So deep down he was driven by fame and glory.
Ragnar is a legend. The closest to him was Bjorn. Wish they could've kept ragnar longer
Ragnar was originally supposed to die in season 1 but he worked out so well that wrote 2 more seasons for him.

@@dorminnimrod4422 Not maybe, Bjorn is a brute. He has the strength of a berserker and the swiftness of smaller vikings, he did not just stand a chance against Ragnar but he would have pulverised him even in his prime, let alone a weak and torn apart old Ragnar. Ragnar is better at battle of wits but when it comes to close quarter combat, Bjorn exceeds him by a mile. They don't call him Ironside for nothing.

Vikings is such a good show.. i have no words how good it is. Same goes for the last kingdom. These 2 might be the best shows i've ever seen!
It's a weird feeling going up against your old man.
As a teenager I was quite volatile, violent. I fought a lot, I especially fought bigger and older men than myself, truth be told I got my ass kicked a lot but I was never scared.
And my dad, he's not a large man, not a particularly threatening person and I didn't fear him in the slightest, not by the time I was 16.
One day I lost my shit, and long story short my old man came out of no where, grabbed me by the throat and put me against the wall.
All my instincts went out the door. Part of me wanted to hit him, part of me knew I could hurt him but the other part of me didn't want too, loved him, respected him. I just stood there quiet, stunned.
I was a really conflicted person, but actually that day helped me resolve a lot of my issues. I learned that I respected my old man more than I thought and I learned that I could restrain myself.
I think ubbe is like that here. He is really angry and probably knows he could put up a good fight but struggles with the love and respect he has for ragnar.
Funny you say that I had the same experience i was a little older tho around 18..... I used to enjoy fighting would go out of my way at bars to find them. Won some lost some broke my nose 3 times lol ( should have learned to stop leading with my face lol ) Never really had much emotion tho wasnt scared just love the adrenaline rush.
But one night i came home from a friends house and the Tv was on i took the remote and started watching it my dad came down from the shower said gimme the remote i was watching that, My response was no you werent it was empty needless to say it got heated he came at me i threw him on a the coffee table it was instinct but when i realized what i had done i backed up in shock and he threw 2 punches at me i backed away from both and didn't swing back just kinda realised what was happening, was one of those oh shit i didnt mean to do that im sorry moments, then he threw the kitchen table and broke all the dishes on it then told me to clean it up.
Without even thinking about it i started to pick up the broken glass.
Its very different when its your father even if you no very well you can beat him your emotions take over and like you said you don't want to you love him even if you think you don't you respect him even if you think you don't and you really don't want to hurt him.
This doesnt go for everyone obviously but i think for the most part when your father is standing infront of you challenging you somethign inside of you even if you no you can win no contest forces you to back down.
"Who wants to be King?!". By the state of you, not me. When that's what being a King can turn you into, i'll stay on the farm.
Love seeings ivars eyes get very blue when he looks at his father
That music in the beginning fuels my rage
This is one of the best scenes in TV history imo

Hail to the king Ragnar
I need to rewatch this series
spread fucking way the king is back
This whole moment was tension, I was grinding my teeth, I thought ubbe and ragnar were actually going to face off
Poor ubbe got slapped so many times😂😂
I love that moment again when Ragnar raises his voice again. This horny lute is tuned for battle. That's one hell of a battle cry
The music and bjorn entrance
i'm more surprised that ragnar managed to feed himself and survive 10 winters all by himself and still maintained a huge physique
The entire mood changed when Bjorn arrived
they all shit scared of him, Bjorn walks up like "who is this loud little guy".
Ubbe just like : "what kind of a sons who kill his father" and he regret it after he take step forward
I think ragnar love bjorn ironside the most but he loved them all.
The weight of power. Everyone wants to be "the man" until they realize the toll it takes. He earnestly looks to give up the responsibility and when it comes down to it, seeing a man who's gone through such trials, none of them takes the offer. It's easier to criticize from afar than be the one who actually makes the decisions
This hits hard
Do it
Do it........
