The Office Spin-Off That Doesn't Exist (yet?): Uncle Stan
Вставка
- Опубліковано 25 чер 2024
- Back in 2020, a show that a lot of news sites called "an Office Spin-Off" based on Stanley Hudson raised over 340 thousand dollars. To this day the show, Uncle Stan, has not been released, many backers have been left in the dark, and actual updates have been scarce. Let's dive into its history, the strange history of it's creators, and see if we can see what exactly is happening behind the scenes.

@@10KProductions Cool. Cool cool cool.
Parks & Rec. every episode?
my name is earl theory video or in general i really think you should cover it or watch it if you have not its the best
Ironically the thing that kills most Kickstarters is the Perks. Each perk is in itself a project that gets in the way of completing the actual thing you're trying to do in the first place.
Stretch goals are also problematic and cause delays
I think the thing that kills most kickstarters is that they’re brain dead ideas everyone thinks they’re the new thing and try fixing a problem that doesn’t exist and if the things fails the people still get paid
I don't understand perks if you donate 100 and the project is done then that's your perk
Well, in this case, the thing that killed the kickstarter was that it was never going to happen.
@@artofdestinations2463 Yeah, the Stanley actor made $4 million from the show, if he was going to be the star of a show, he could have put up a bit of his own money along with the producers who would have plenty of money and just put out a petition to see if people were interested.
Kickstarter would be good for stuff that wasn't mega popular that producers might not want to take a chance on and gives the fans a chance to bring something they love to life but there's no good reason to ask for handouts when the thing you're doing a spin off of previously made an ungodly amount of money.
I like how Leslie David Baker has a consistent history of scams and no shows to paid events and people are just like "Yep that's so Stanley" as if he's not a massive grifter.
is there examples somewhere? also ldb returned all the money for the kikstarter , or so i thought
the character of Stanley, nor the actor, I’d imagine, cannot sustain his own show. even the very idea that Stanley would lift a finger more than he needs to just to get by, let alone come out of retirement, is contrary to everything we know about him.
I supported this at a $25 level to get a poster signed by LDB and the full cast. After being told it was sent for a few months, I finally received a poster signed just by LDB. There is no show. There is no cast.
Nah, he just plays every role
Because LDB is the show
It's probably signed by the Kickstarter creator.
I always thought I’d be interesting for a spin-off about the warehouse workers, primarily Darryl.
Oh i feel like this could have worked so much better !!
It could be called “The Warehouse”
Holy cow! Is that the real beavis FROM beavis and butthead?
@@rustyshackleford234 yes
Oooh this would be so good
I remember seeing the promo stuff for this and thinking “do they expect me to believe this’ll actually get made
Read that in Stanley's voice
We can't just assume this guy is taking advantage of LDB and making him promote this stuff involuntarily. LDB is a fully grown man who can make his own decisions. He should know what he's getting into before he goes around advertising it. Either he's a sellout who will do literally anything for money without looking into its legitimacy first or he's a con man with no regard for his audience. Those are the only ways I could see this going if this show never comes to be.
Most likely a sellout.
Well adults *do* get scammed as evidenced by the 350K raised from this in the first place. It's not entirely unlikely that LDB himself was misled into how likely this show was going to be, especially if he were a dimmer adult than others. Not that this excuses him.
Personally I think he is complicit in it from the start.
I remember prior to the events that unfolded in his private life, Gus Johnson made a video not only commentating on this show- but later stating in a podcast that he fully funded the kickstarter in order to see what the weird and wild perks that were offered truly entailed.
Only spin off I would want to see is a younger Michael. Seeing what made him the way he is would be interesting I think
Agreed. The episode where Michael was forced to do counseling with Toby and eventually started to actually talk about his past was great, I wish we got more of that.
The problem is i just watched carrel in the short hulu series the patient and hes too old to even reprise his role as middle aged michael scott much less a younger one. They could technically digitally de-age in edit but thats a lot of money, time, and production for a spin off and the cgi might not even blend well on live action.
I thought a show about Dunder Mifflin in the 90s would be fun following Michael, but then I realized Todd Packer would be a regular and I no longer want that show.
Going backwards is always scary though because they have to get a different actor
Would be a bad idea. You can't recast Michael
A spin off about Michael's early days would be nice. His struggles before he was the manager of the branch. I can see some potential while watching an episode of the Michael Scott's paper company.
I don't like the idea of an office spin off that doesn't involve the documentary crew. Not to mention recasting Michael is a crime lol.
Going backwards is always scary though because they have to get a different actor
little sheldon
@@coreyw5981 Idk man, I think Bob Odenkirk did a fantastic job playing a younger Saul.
@@AaronTheHarris 7 years vs 18, bad idea
I think Stanley may legitimately be the last character I would choose to do an office spinoff about…
Although I suppose I wouldn’t think any character from that show could star in a successful spin-off, especially if it didn’t work for Dwight.
They didn't try with Dwight..it could have worked ,they should have tried a season...wit that said I agree with you lol I don't see Stanley or a version of Stanley carrying a show and that is with the best writers possible and allowing to use the office character..it would have been a funny one off episode..they should do a season of where are they now and maybe give each of them one episode where we catch up with them ten years later
Maybe Jim? new job and all, but if Dwight couldn't get a spinoff I'm almost sure Jim couldn't, they seem equal in popularity in my eyes
@MrMozzie Jim was supposed to be the straight man of the office though. You'd have to force Jim's new job to be full of Wacky insane characters that don't seem like a rip off of the office characters
@@kvnprime they legit did a back door pilot with the farm episode that was suppose to be a spin off and nobody liked it
@@rylan3434 I know that but Noone cared about the whole first season of the office lol I'm saying they should have tried more than one episode
Apparently for the Office Kevin apparently worked up credit from people buying him drinks but he doesn't take them and racks up enough credit to own part of the bar
Yep. They actually filmed that and cut the scene.
Has there ever been a kickstarter where the backers DIDN'T get ripped off?
Exactly. I backed two campaigns and got ripped off on both. Never again.
Shovel Knight.
Hollow knight
That fidget cube thing but that’s it
Metazoo i guess
This Kickstarter is clearly a scam. The sooner a class action lawsuit is started, the better. I'm sure there's a clock running on that.
I donated for a signed Funko. I never received it. I did receive notices from "Sardar" that it's coming and oh, we forgot it. Eventually I said that's it, im done, give me my money back.
They did give me the $100 back, but were pissy about it. I can't imagine what those who donated $500 or more feel like.
It’s honestly really sad for everyone who put forward money and haven’t seen a thing
I feel Like LDB is being kind of taken advantage of but also taking advantage of fans. i remember this thing being announced and it sounded like a scam to me, and then I saw his token video promotion and it was clear he had no fucking clue what he was talking about and is also a just another scheme. Alot of the actors from the office are using that notoriety to make money today which is fine, but just don't scam people. Do a podcast or something man.
yeah i saw him promoting this and some nft bullshit on his twitter i hope nobody’s taking advantage of him
While the public doesnt get nft, nft are already being used by different companies and sold by them so actually that aspect is a bit more normal and just them giving another standard digital good to some level. The public may not be a fan of it but from the corporate side it is just another form of a digital reward.
Sad1ly tbh this minimizes the actual usages of how nft technology can be actually used but companies do seem to be in the mood to use it more the digital good s1ide so that isnt too out of the norm
Th1e real t1hing that is off is simply the reward levels and how low they are. Compared to similar gofundme most of these reward levels would have been much higher and that is what really hints it is a scam.
Funny enough ironically if they did send you a nft you could potentiolly use that to see what wallet they sent it from to you
I'm sure there's an alternate universe where the Soviet Union actually produced "Save by Bell."
A Stanley spinoff is like the Cleveland Show. He's a good character within the main show, but just not interesting enough for his own
It's so in character of Stanley "I don't care if it's a Kickstarter scam or crypto fraud, if I'm getting paid".
Stanley wanted a decommissioned lighthouse that had a rocket in it to launch him into space.
Update to this project: as of today they canceled the project and returned all the money people donated
maybe not a spinoff, but a one-off episode of why creed is so insane would be great
Sounds like a scam. It isn't a leap to think Sardar is a con man
Quick update, Baker returned all the money that was donated.
In 2020 i think i misread the logo and thought the show was called “under-stan” and have been calling it that ever since
I liked the feeling of finality to the way it ended.
It's crazy...all these videos saying how "The Farm" was not a good episode. It's not that I disagree with anyone's opinion, but I really enjoyed the episode. I understand that it removes the silliness and strangeness of Dwight living in a more "normal" situation. However, I feel like it is a great glimpse of where he comes from and why he's the way he is. I know that a lot of the times pulling the wool from the audiences eyes ruins the mystique, but it didn't feel like it was a terrible episode at all, in my opinion.
thanks for not warning about spoilers in the intro
This is not the Stanley spin-off I wanted, I wanted Florida Stanley not miserable working Stanley relocated to LA.
"everyone gets their happy ending"
me thinking about how kelly left her husband and baby to be with ryan again. Ah yes what a happy ending
It’s what she really wanted. Absolute chaos.
To be fair, it was Ryan’s baby named Drake, Kelly didn’t have children. And that baby was definitely better off without Ryan in his life.
I love the random confused Scott 😂
I think a even a show starring the faulty office copier would be better than Uncle Stan.
Michael Scott : How can I get you to stay?
Stanley : Money.
Michael Scott : Yeah. We all want money. But there is none in the budget. So, tell me why you're really leaving.
Stanley : Money.
Michael Scott : Mo' money, mo' problems, Stanley. You of all people should know that. Let me ask you this, if I were...
Stanley : Money.
The Office Fans: When's the spin-off going to release?
Stanley : Money.
Personally, the farm episode was one of my favorites. Kinda sad we got no spin off
Tecnicaly it was going to happen but the critics hated the idea
I think the one about Dwight’s family is a been a better spin-off show idea
The Scott the Woz joke got me really good 😂😂
very interesting video the sardar khan investigation was very unexpected
Thank you for your earnest and diligent sleuthing!
Wait does park and rec eventually kick the side interviews mockumentary style thing? I never noticed it went away if it did. I didn't watch it a ton
If they were making a spin off about Stanley it should be about a pretzel shop not a motorcycle shop. A motorcycle shop show starring Stanley? That right there shows you they weren't thinking hard enough about this project/scam.
Because Sardar Khan is a lifelong professional con man who understands plausible deniability, he chose a Motorcycle shop and a flower shop because those are two locations he had access to.
Ive been waiting for someone to speak about this
Just bring stuff to the barbecue and get him to sign it. Then open a zoom call (you know, with up to 5 friends!). He won't refuse, that would be bad publicity! Milk that barbecue!
Although I agree about Stanley being one of the worse characters to give a spin off the premise is hilarious, Stanley enjoying retirement and getting pulled back to work with a bunch of other idiots to deal with sounds exactly like something that would happen to Stanley knowing us luck lmao
Great video
If "Uncle Stan" is reasonably inferred to be a derivative of "Stanley Hudson" then (Disney owned) Freeform (among others) would burn that $300k in a month's worth of legal bills. They would have to call it "Uncle Bill" and he'd have to be a retired school teacher from Amarillo, TX to avoid any legal hassle.
The fact that this "Uncle Stan" character was billed as a spinoff from the start has doomed the show from ever happening (since Sardar Khan specifically stated "...an office spin off series based on Stanley Hudson...").
holy crap ur account blew up this week
I feel like Stanley works better as a character when he's annoyedly reacting to Michael or Dwight and displaying a characteristic lack of energy. I don't know how a show can be centered around him.
I feel like the 125 dollars BBQ with LDB is the best deal than anything above it. Every perk above that seems like there's no option to meet LDB. 125 bucks to meet LDB AND have some BBQ? So much better than a 10 minute phone call or Zoom video call.
Update you can now buy the domain for the show
I would honestly love to see the dwight farm spinoff
They should just make “The Documentary”
A season of 2 parters, each one focusing on a character, or characters after the office.
Like creed escaping jail,
Dwight’s farm,
Maredith and Kevin getting drunk at his bar,
Etc.
It would fit everything!
The farm is one of my most favorite episodes
I feel like the mos1t suspect thing is the level many of those things are set. Some of those things are common for shows but usually only at much higher tiers
How about "Stanley: The Family Manly"?
Stanley living in Florida I would watch
An Office Spin-Off isn't a bad idea at all, since the characters are definitely Unique enough to focus on.
But Stanley? Really? No Offence, he's great, but most of his Charm came from the fact that he just didn't care about the insanity of the Job and ignored it. So, sorry to say it; he's kind of boring, especially to focus an entire plot on him. Dwight Schrute would have been a much better idea since, he's very entertaining to watch.
5:23.
You mean an iPod Shuffle, right? Which also happens to be the nickname of Michael's th... Never mind.
That’s a iPod nano
this has been trying to happen for years, i remember seeing videos on it before.
1:51 'cept that lighthouse.
came here for a normal video. didn't know id be going down a fucking rabbit hold xD
0:55 BADGER!?!?!
Ole Stanley seems boring for a spinoff, but when you see how he his when he's not working, you realize he has a lot more to him than he lets on.
"Saved By Bell"
I don’t talk no good
Tbf pre production on TV can go on for four years sometimes, but they should of only asked for money when they were ready to go into production
I love Stanley.. but I don't think he could a spin-off as the main character. Dwight couldn't even manage that, and he would be a prime pick for a spin-off.
Music at 15:15?
Office Stars using their time on the show to make money is fine even though its a bit scummy, but whats happening here is 109% a scam. poor guy doesn't even seem aware of what he's reading or why there is a camera in front of him
There's no way they got permission from NBC to use the character of Stanley Hudson.
They didn't. That's why it's not an official spin off as it says over and over for legal reasons and as he says in the video "it's not really a spin off"
I guess all this fish-yness is why LDB has never been featured in the Office Ladies podcast
This sounds like a not a show. It’s sounds like it won’t happen. They don’t have enough money.
...among many, MANY other things.
You probably weren't alive but SBTB the college years was great for fans of the series back in the day.
the guy in the thumbnail looks like cleveland brown
Dwights farm episode was a good episode though, one of the best ones of the season?
Oh god. I remember seeing this kickstarter and immediatley thinking "Oh no.." and then the preview came out and I ALMOST felt bad for him
Leslie David Baker is a complete scam artist, and probably turned his nose up at so many offers because he thought he was better. Too late..
I decided to look into a video with a similar amount of views as Khan's music video to see if this is at all common. Gorillaz - Humility (Commentary Edition) as of writing has 657K views, 35K likes and 1,178 comments. Granted this is a commentary video, not a music video, so do with that information what you will.
sooo either this sardar guy is scamming stanley and his fans or stanley is scamming his fans
I love the farm and wish the spin-off got picked up
There is eg. polish version of The Office (i believe its on The office license) that started airing recently.
But as a polish and The office fan, i can honestly say it is painful to watch
I think if memoey serves me right. That the people that played Pam and Angela also have a podcast about their time at The Office (U. S.)
Yes! It’s called The Office Ladies
@@10KProductions coolio
Hope this doesn't turn into Oaxis 2.0
Yall gonna walk this one back??? LMFAO
That show will never be made. It was just a scam.
A office spin-off and a parks and rec spin-off would be great.. technically tho a office spin-off was almost there with the last season tho had the new temps and they were working their way to be the new office cast which would of sucked
Canada still has Office on netflix thank god
Sounds like "Joey". It's always a bad idea to take a beloved one-sided character and try to "flesh him out".
Except for Frasier maybe
Just picture a spin off involving TOBY and HR on a company and divorces
IDK just looking at the stuff you get makes it look like a scam to me. Not something I would have bought into.
Woudn't Angela and Oscar be in the series?
Just let a good thing rest in peace.
Do Kevin for a spinoff.
This is crazy.
Still not the worst 'project' from a post-Office castmate.
I think they spelled "Excel" the way they did cause it's Office
Haven’t finished the video but I’m guessing that the money for the intended show got dumped into the ill conceived NFT scheme
I liked the farm.
I think that it’s all a scam I mean just look at the facts it just feels like a rip off
Am I the only one who want Creed's backstory?
Season 9 episode 17 was great what are talking about what been a great series
Wait is the office not still on Netflix for the Yanks?
Nope!
Good thing I'm a Canuck.
No and it probably won't ever be again. It's on Peacock, the NBC streaming service, and NBC owns the rights. People subscribe to Peacock just to watch The Office and Parks and Rec.
Massive L for the Americans on this one. I'm sure you're probably VPN (Very Peeved Now) Ah well, I'm sure there's a Torrent of other options out there.
Its on UK Netflix and Now TV if any Americansfancy using a VPN to watch
Lol "saved by bell"
Words are hard
