We're back talking about The Office. This time we're delving into just how irresponsible Michael Scott is with his money and just how much debt he's in. We know he declares bankruptcy, but is that the worst of it?

This.
I thought that was a lie he made up just to make Dwight tell the truth, and for him not to leave
@@RichManSCTV0 noo dwight was just kissing his ass because dwight always wanted to be number 2 in the office. The second he thought he was number 1, he was willing to tell Michael what he actually thought. Which was that the Sebring was a terrible idea... in that climate of course!

Micheal makes over 80,000 a year. Dwight says in the episode the interview that the manager job pays 80,000 a year and thats entry level.
@Brenton Willier Thats not an unreasonable salary for an office manager. He also compares daryls salary but daryl is a incharge of the werehouse, but he uses a regular workers salary. Daryl will makes more than a regular worker.

You forgot to factor in the money Carol saved on the condo.
I've always wondered, yes Michael does yell at the top of his lungs that he declares bankruptcy, but Oscar talks to him after to tell him that's not how it works. So, did he actually, officially declare bankruptcy? It's never really brought up again. So whats to believe that he never actually declared it?
There's no way the two cars would break even as a trade in. Factoring depreciation and the low ball trade in value dealership offer.
He drove the rental car into a lake also.
There is no possible way anyone would actually do a 30 year loan on that condo... even Michael...
It’s between 50-70 grand, so let’s say it’s in the ballpark of 60 Thousand. At 30 years, he’d only be paying two grand a year, or 166.6 a month. And that’s assuming this was during the housing bubble and he did a zero dollar down payment. If it wasn’t, or if he didn’t, it’d be significantly less 👌
A three bedroom condo for under $170 a month while being the most senior (and only remaining upper-level manager) employee at Dunder Mifflin... how in the world does he manage to LOSE money?
Dave Hyler magic camp
Jan
Actually, that would make a lot of sense to do if you could get a bank to agree to it. With monthly payments that low you could afford to regularly make pretty substantial payments towards the principal, allowing you to pay off the mortgage significantly earlier. This is especially important when you consider the fact that, with mortgages, your monthly payments are nearly exclusively paying for interest for about the first third of the loan period.
Using your example, if you can pay just $800 a month towards the principle you will have the loan paid off after only 6 years and 3 months, saving thousands on interest. Even a mere $250 a month would have you paid off 10 years early.
And he didn't do a zero dollae down payment. He was going to lose $7000 if he walked away from the deal
This is so incredibly wrong. You’re not factoring property taxes or insurance into his mortgage payment, which can be roughly equal to the principal and interest. Nor are you taking into account that for the first 10-15 years, the vast major of your mortgage payment goes to interest. To say that he would have paid down almost 30% of his mortgage in the 6 1/2 years that he lived there shows literally zero understanding of how mortgages work.
This video is so incredibly far off. I oftentimes watch dumb little videos like this and think, "wow, that is some amazing analysis." This is not one of those times.

Also it is stated that the entire office receives annual raises on their salaries. We see this in an episode where Michael tasks Dwight and Jim with shelling out the raises which were limited that year.
Michael was broke, but he turned his life around after declaring bankruptcy
I like that there’s, how rich is Dwight, and how broke is michael
The condo cost seems far too low. I would say at least $100k, plus I don't notice you including condo fees and utilities each month, as well as factoring in the interest when paying with a loan or mortgage.
The video does factor in interest, I believe. But I agree... that cost does seem awfully low for what appeared to be a pretty new condo. And yeah, utilities could almost double what he was supposedly paying each month on his loan.
I mean it is a Scranton condo/townhouse whatever you wanna call it
I don’t think his condo would’ve been that cheap. I live in a small town in Indiana and my house wasn’t anywhere near that cheap. We’re known for our cheap housing market 😂
Especially a condo in an exclusive community with stars like Johnny Depp living there.
$74K for a condo! Lol. That makes his bankruptcy even funnier.
wtf is this video !? he says condo but clearly its a townhouse, im sure its worth more than 55k ! and the his cars are usually company lease, doubt a warehouse foreman is making 60k back in the day, maybe 50k at most
Okay I’ll go through part by part:
A condo isn’t necessarily closer to an apartment. It can be a series of homes like what we see Michael looking at.
He specifically mentions selling his car to buy the Porsche.
You can doubt what you want but that’s what I found when I looked it up.
@@10KProductions yeah what a critic
Nope. It's definitely a condo and the company lease situation is definitely a thing.

Melanie Jecker yah but its tv trying to follow a realistic script... thats why lots of episodes have details based off of other episodes
I don’t think I’ve ever gotten 8 ads in the middle of a video but wow. Worth it.
I still don’t know how Michael is such a stupid/wreck less person, yet was able to become one of Dunder Mifflin’s best employees. He won various awards, was good enough to become manager at a relatively young age, and I remember in the episode he leaves the company to make his own paper company, he tells Pam his idea and says he got half the clients Dunder Mifflin has, and he would surely be able to get more clients.

I’m kinda scared right now because I just started watching the office on Netflix and I haven’t watched a single video of it on UA-cam and now there’s just office videos in my recommended.
The fact that there’s a 10 minute video explaining how broke micheal is is amazing
There is also expenses on The Dundies (the location reservation, food, the trophies) the overages for the parties (corporate only funds for 1 party a year, so all the birthday expenses as well)
Everyone keeps mentioning Michael got "extra" birthday money from his senile nana, but he blew a lot of that on Toby's going away party. Also, Michael gets end of the year bonuses for being manager. I mean he always gets a $100 gas card, and you can't put a price one that!

Sebring is a corporate lease.
These videos are completely addictive. But in this case 1) there is no way Michael, in an active Ch 13 Bankruptcy status, would have been able to borrow $200,000 to buy basically anything, so I think we have to dismiss that as a salesman bragging. I’ll grant you, though, that is a $10,000+ ring at the very least. And 2) Michael also probably would not have been able to take out a loan for that last Chrysler, again having recently filed bankruptcy, so he’s far more likely leasing the car

The episode after "Money" was "Local Ad" in which he not only spends the money to make his ad (only a few hundred, I'm sure) but he tells David Wallace he will pay for the advertisement company to come back and shoot the ad which probably cost thousands. I've always been bothered by that inconsistency. And at the end of the season he spends a ton of money on toby's going away party. "Foot money"
please do how rich is Ox King from DBZ
You probably should’ve factored in the fact that Michael’s 3 checks probably wouldn’t have cleared. If that student took them into a bank, any bank that I know of wouldn’t have cashed that amount of money that far away from the date of writing the check.
Michael mentions several times that his cars are corporate leases, so he wouldn't have bought them. This was always confusing to me on how he trades it in on the Porsche.

I think the estimation of his earnings is high for coal country PA.
Also, are you forgetting federal, state and LOCAL income tax?
What about Michael the Magic's debt? I believe both Oscar and Toby comment on his insane 'magic' spends on company and personal credit cards.
They mention the Sebring being a company car I think.........If true it would be kinda like a perk he doesn't pay anything at that point for it
Why did I watch this
Because you hate me
"How broke is Michael Scott?" Hella
So basically, Michael Scott is about as broke as the average college graduate.
Pretty poorly done math. Reporting the money at the end as -$205,173.90 is really, really bad. You don't have even the tiniest bit of confidence in most of those numbers. From the rest of the video, it looks like you could realistically report it as about -$200,000. You imply way to match precision with that result
He also said in the episode that Darryl wanted a raise that he was making $45,000
He wasn't making 72k a yr. He was around $14hour. That was shown on episode when Daryl wanted a raise.. and laughed at Michael's pay. And his Sebring was a company car and wasn't paying payments.
Regardless of how accurate it is, you deserve a hell of a lot more subs for the work put into this vid (and i enjoyed it). Well done.
Also being from Colorado I can’t help think about how much more expensive it is here. Especially since he moved to boulder where it’s basically impossible to find a house under 900,000
Wasn't his car a corporate lease? When he was about to give it to Dwight making him think he was taking over as manager he says "corporate lease, you've earned it".
$52k condo... wut. That won’t even pay to rent a room for a year in California
He’s not, because he’s rich in friendships
