- I haven't talked about Dwight really in depth on this channel in a long time. Let's fix that and talk about one of the best character in the Office, Dwight Schrute, and let's really get into his own personal hero's journey.

There's two important moments that I think deserve mention. The first is in season two when he gets a concussion, and Pam comes around and calls him her friend for the first time. The second is when he and Jim throw Whatshername out of Jim's hotel room, then the next shot is the two of them hanging out in Dwight's room, eating cake and watching a basketball game.
Also that time Dwight saved Jim from Roy
@@NoNo-pw6kd That was his duty as a citizen.
I think the final turning point when they’d consider each other friends would be the last Christmas episode, when Jim was the only one who was wanting to see Dwight’s Christmas traditions, and when Jim had to leave early, Dwight was really upset about it. Also, when Jim comes back, Dwight hugs him way harder than Pam 😂
Dwight also remodeled Jim and Pam's kitchen.
@@NoNo-pw6kd i feel the finale is when jim finally pays dwight back for that..when he plans his perfect albeit strange traditional bachelor party and it goes to nearly perfection unlike how dwight and the rest of them acted at jim's wedding weekend using it as an excuse to get laid and ruin it and make it about them for the cameras..best prank ever...

How rich is Andrew Bernard?
Is ryan a sociopath?
A complete timeline of all known events in the office
Random Th1ngs Andy Bernard is that rich considering he had to sell all the family stuff to support his mom I think
He just did you vid idea yesterday about Ryan
@@abrahamgonzales1888 of course at the end of the series after the plot point where he loses all of his money he's not that rich
But from the time he's calling Jim Big Tuna to sitting in Michael's chair no one really has a good idea of how much money he has other than his parents are upper class.
Ryan was a egomaniac and adict
Ryan is far too emotional and pathetic to be a sociopath imo. Definitely possibly a narcissist pd or even borderline pd if we're talking personality disorders though..
Dwight went from "NOOOOOOOOO!" to "I would be happy no see Jim as manager."
If that's not character growth, I don't know what is.
theres something about dwight and angela both trying so hard and failing and how both of them finally give up in season 9 and see the errors of their ways and come back better happier people because of it and thus get back together that I feel many people miss when they first watch the show...they had to go through that all to get to where they end up..
Or as you saw to be ashemed even talkin angel and finished screaming her i love you
Good ol Dwight can't forget he's a multi millionaire.
why didn't mike ask him for cash when he was broke lol
@@razkable I don't think Michael understood Dwight's wealth. "Beet farmer" doesn't make people think rich even if it's true. Besides, knowing Dwight he'd use it as leverage to get his promotion.
In the part about Dwight comforting Pam in the hallway, missing from that moment is the story in "The Injury" when Dwight has the concussion and is friendly to Pam. That really is the moment that they initially connect, and it never really goes back to the way it was. That also showed when Pam was "helping" Dwight during the whole "Schrute buck" Dwight-in-charge story line.
you can tell jenna and rainn are so close behind the scenes so they had to kinda force drama between them but it always felt fake when they tried to act mean to one another..they clearly dig each other..

Oh i wrote it before they did each other perfectly and the photo when at the beginning were friends
This is something I didn’t notice at first but now makes me love the show more, I will look out for these things when I do a full rewatch
the one thing I disagree with is the proposal of Dwight being the main character of the series. I'd say he almost irrefutably goes through the most change, spare maybe Andy or Michael but both of their changes happened very quickly and only to make them more likable characters and not really as a story point or a character arc, but I wouldn't say he or really anyone for that matter is the main character. The office is the main character. In a documentary style product the main character is what's focused on most and while some characters are focused on more than others I think the goal was still to make them all supplemental to the main goal and focus of the doc, an American workplace
true...mike dwight pam and jim in theory are sharing the main character status for 7 seasons...then they lose mike so it becomes andy instead of mike and then it becomes angela i would say with the other 3 of course
You missed a huge moment to say he "Schruted it"
My thoughts on the stairwell scenes:
Although Dwight only seems to care about Pam by this point, their relationship is perhaps similar to Jim's with Dwight: They care somewhat, but are too caught up in their daily antics to show it.
I noticed you skipped the times he was temporarily manager. These may almost seem silly, but the contrast from them really shows how Dwight has grown.
I usually believe Michael is the true main character (until leaving), but Dwight is more prominent as a secondary than any other.
I literally just finished watching the show 10 minutes ago.
Did you enjoy the series?
Who wouldn’t if he finished it

in the first 4 seasons he was really clingy to Michael and wanted to do anything for him later in the show he is more for hisself still loyal to michael but in a diffrent way
The change comes from the roast episode where he snaps when Michael keeps insulting Dwight while he's trying to defend him.
@@wvu05 i like how it finally comes to a head in the new leads episode..they finally fight it out at the dump..they say some harsh things to each other...very cathartic....when mike says he spent all that time being dwight's friend instead of looking for a wife and kids an dwight says he hitched his wagon to a horse with no legs choosing to go with mike over a famous home depot executive that he could of joined to be the number 2 at a home depot cause mike is going nowhere lol

4:55 - awww poor Mose 🤣
Mose has his scarecrow. He’ll be fine.
I loved how Dwight and Phyllis bonded in season 5, it was really nice
I knew from the first episode from The Office that Dwight was gonna be the best,or superior to all the other cast members!
Michael is the main character. They made Dwight the main character in s8 and s9 because they didn't know what else to do. Michael undergoes his own character arc, where he has to accept that he's not that talented as he thought, that the people in his office are in fact just his employees. But he also learns that he doesn't have to be the best at everything.
But by keeping the show going after Michael left, that made it about someone else. I have seen other shows where a main character leaving means that the overall story arc changes so it is about someone else. To use a different show as an example, my ex-wife liked _One Tree Hill,_ and the main character left after season six, although the original plotline was pretty much gone by the end of season one. By the end, it was clearly the story of his father seeking redemption for all of the horrible things he did.
mike may be the main star but dwight is the protagonist ..he is who we want to see change...mike is who he is
@@razkable You put that really well. Mike might've starred in it but dwight underwent far more character growth
Dwight wasn't the main character it's just common practice to make the protagonist Side characters more interesting than the protagonist who wears more of a neutral mask.
he was meant to be apart of michael the way jim ryan stanley darryl roy kevin andy some of creed even toby are as well ..they are all parts of michael spread out into different characters ....so when he left the show lost its core and dwight carried in season 9 but in season 8 since andy was important it was about him and robert and it failed miserable when dwight was not on screen

Growth doesn't make a character a main character. Take Indiana Jones, he doesn't change at all and yet it's all about him. Also side characters can grow more than main ones, an examples of this is the ice king who goes from a typical villain to a very lovable guy. Like your video tho

I always thought of Jim as the main character/hero and Dwight as the villain. Sure, he changes as a character, but the entire series, right up until the 2nd to last episode, has us rooting for Jim and rooting against Dwight. I mean, scenes like the mallard/pen scheme and the snowball fight make us feel bad for Jim rather than good for Dwight. Even the 2nd to last episode is about how Dwight gets duped by Jim into doing all of his work as Assistant Regional Manager. For the majority of the series, we laugh with Jim and laugh at Dwight, and I don't think the main character of any story is the character who gets laughed at. Think about it, in Always Sunny, we're mainly laughing at the rest of the gang and laughing with Dennis, making Dennis the main character. In Arrested Development, we laugh at pretty much the entire family, but we laugh with Michael, making him the undisputed main character of the show. We laugh with Jerry Seinfeld and at George, Kramer, and sometimes Elaine in a show named after its main character. I could go on, but since we're looking through Jim's eyes and laughing with him at all the other characters in the office, Jim is the main character and hero of The Office in my opinion.
I agree
Look at the comments of the snowball fight. Most people are glad that Dwight finally got his revenge.
the office is the main character....everyone grows..there are 4 main characters but no true lead i would say..mike is close but he leaves so we don't get a full arc with him it feels like..most of his final season hes just normal mike so theres not this initial change in his arc like with jim and dwight..so its a shame but in the end the main 4 all want more in life and they all get it....pam wants a better job husband to express herself to be happy grow jim wants that too and so does mike..dwight wants that too actually...they all want that..ironic
There is absolutely no way you can classify dwight as a villain, the show is soooooo much more than Jim and Dwight's funny (pretty brotherly) prank war and oneupmanship, there's so much character development, friendship, romance, Camaraderie etc. Its not about who we laugh at because in the end everyone is rooting for Dwight to be manager, everyone is rooting for Jim and Pam's marriage to be okay, there are no heroes or villains in this show.
@@elizabethread6014 dwight helps pam multiple times he helped andy he helps mike many times he helped jim out...hes awesome...he helps angela...

"Vegeta is the main character of Dragon Ball Z cause 'character development'"
Good video though!
in dragonball goku is the person who changes others hes static...so that comparison does not work..when the office loses mike, jim and pam are happily married...their drama is mostly superficial at that point so dwight takes the spotlight to develop cause he started out as a 4th main character imo for the first 2 seasons cause he was kinda robotic and not given many emotional scenes so he had little conflicts and was mostly shown in a winning light like he always succeeded until season 3 and a lot more in 4 then they began to break his character down a bit slowly over time to build him back up better than before cause he was successful with negative traits and that was not going to led to a good manager or ending for him...he needed to be humbled
who else is here from a literature assignment :/
Jim is the main character of the office, he took Dwight on the heroes journey and Dwight didn't advance on that journey until Jim allowed this to happen.
No. Jim didn't "allow" him to do anything. Dwight changed himself.
I thought this was called the nerd's jorney
a recent example was harry potter
Pam and Michael change more significantly than Dwight though. Granted Michael isn't in the whole show.
Sorry I know this old but neither Pam nor Michael undergo any character development :/
god you stretched hard here
Jim is the main character
Jim is the main character because we all identify with Jim. Dwight is annoying throughout the majority of the series and only becomes a lot more tolerable at the end of the series.
false...jim is not the main character..he lies to the camera he tricks people like the viewer hiding his true nature a lot it seems cause hes being filmed and he is trying to project a false image of himself while inside hes insecure and probably similar to mike and dwight....mike and dwight are the main characters imo..they are more honest and we know more about them..they get fleshed out more...they don't hide who they are to fit in....we learn why they are the way they are...jim is just the straight man and we barely touch on his past...same for pam..we know dwight's childhood and mike's...they both are damaged and need therapy....thats why they are weird..jim and pam are not so they seem normal cause the office makes everyone else insane..maybe not oscar
I found Jim pretty annoying sometimes if I'm honest. I was rooting for dwight a lot more often
