I'm an actor/creator in London and I used to work (behind the scenes) on Harry Potter films and even tho the movies ended 10 years ago, I can see so many actors, small actors or even EXTRAS who used to work on HP movies and now travelling and promoting their unnamed characters, attending some weird conventions and selling pictures of themselves as the characters (in costumes) for like $50 with their signatures... It's like the only thing they have ever done.
But, then again as long as it makes them money and they enjoy it who cares.

I’m glad that Leslie David Baker is pursuing new projects, but I feel like his character wouldn’t do well with his own show. Stanley was funny because his dry humor played off of the goofier characters like Michael really well, his funniest moments in the show don’t really work without another character. And also there’s the fact that he’s kind of a depressing character when you think about it. If he made his own completely original sitcom, I would definitely watch that.

I imagine the aftermath of being a popular but not extremely important character on a long running show is a tricky thing to navigate. Because you’re not a big name high commodity celebrity but you’re also instantly recognizable, so you’ll likely have to work really hard to get new parts without either being typecast or just rejected outright. I think with that negative experience towards moving forwards and the constant positive feedback on the previous performance then leaning into it is the natural choice.

    • @daultonvenglar9905

I think it's important to understand that a lot of these actors' careers didn't go anywhere after The Office, that this was their one iconic role each of them had, so it makes sense that they would want to attempt to hold onto that whether it's so that they can feel their acting careers have brought purpose to their lives, or for financial reasons due to said lack of work thereafter. Personally I CONSTANTLY see online voice actors do this all the time, and I'm fairly certain it's common in the regular film/television acting industry as well. Not a fan of it (especially when actors get a touchy ego over their one big role), but I can see why most one hit wonder actors turn out that way.

This is a consequence of how American TV is made; to run a show indefinitely so long as the ratings are not terrible. Soon as the ratings go down, maybe you will have time to write a conclusion, maybe not. Actors become their characters after pumping out season after season, so even when they are cast in other projects they are often portraying the same basic character.

    • @deletedwaffles

Using kickstarter while being a character of one of the most successful TV shows sounds like very amateurish, under-baked last ditch effort to milk some more money out of the "glory days". If he has a solid idea which can actually sell, Hollywood or heck even Netflix can fund them. But they don't have a clue what they have to do

My girlfriend's favorite show was The Office. She was chronically ill and didn't leave the house very often. As soon as the last episode ended, the first one would start up again. It was an every day thing in my life and became one of the things we bonded over the most. She passed away a few years ago and I couldn't bring myself to watch it anymore. Well, then I heard that Jenna and Angela were starting their podcast. I decided I would follow along and watch each episode and then listen to the podcast. Then all the sudden I had watched the entire series again. I love that these people love talking about the office and it means so much to them because it does to me too.

I, like your girlfriend, I’ll do the same thing in the office, where I will get to the end of the year show and then start it again. Obviously, it just was getting redundant and so I stopped watching it. Used to really help me with my depression and my sense of loneliness and isolation from having to stay in bed and rest after having the seizures.I was so happy when podcast came out because it gave me a reason to start watching the episode together. And listening to the podcast is like sitting down with two friends. I love it! jenna and angela post a lot of office memes now because they started the office ladies podcast, i guess. they didn't talk about it that much before and their ig stories are still just about their lives and them making bread, talking about their hairs, children, the books they're reading... i listen to all the episodes and they're so corny and sweet, it's actually very lovely. they drop so many behind the scene nuggets, answer fan questions we wanted answers to for years, and conduct informative interviews about how production works, props, filming, what kind of notes they got from directors... i love that podcast.
the rest seems very forced, which is sad.

I would just follow up in saying Brian Baumgartner's podcast is very well done as well. It's done very differently than Office Ladies in a "documentary" type format, with interviews woven within the episodes to tell the history of the show (hence the title of the podcast). I think a lot of people wrote it off as something trying to copy the success of Office Ladies, but it had been in the works for *years*, and it shows in the production value of the show. It's not just a puff piece, either. They get into the downfall and difficulties the show had after Steve Carell left, which was interesting to hear from people that worked on the show at the time.

It's the first time I've ever seen a straight up comedy cast hustle like this, but within the sci-fi and horror community these things are pretty widespread. Basically any production that gets close to classic "nerd culture" will see some of its actors try to extend that fame into other opportunities: conventions, merch, fan projects, whatever.
Star Trek for example is NOTORIOUS for it's former actors doing literally everything you just talked about.
Here's a list of unofficial movies/shows some of which feature real cast members
    en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Star_Trek_fan_productions
Here's a podcast by 2 dudes who had reoccurring roles in Star Trek: Voyager that's about them watching Star Trek: Voyager
    mobile.twitter.com/TheDeltaFlyers
Here's William Shatner's crazy ass website where he's selling literally EVERYTHING including his own Broadcasting and Cable Hall of Fame award www.shatnerstore.com/
If you remember the movie Galaxy Quest it goofs on them pretty good for it.
Personally, I have no problem with these actors reliving the glory days. It might hurt their chances for new projects (who wants to work with someone who CONSTANTLY obsesses over their previous roles?) but generally speaking it's all in good fun, and they wouldn't make the stuff if it didn't have an audience.

i could barely watch those clips of leslie, the show literally sounds like a fake one.
also funny how the first clip of him is so unbelievably expository and on the nose lmao

Felt like Cameo clips for someone's birthday. "I would wish you a happy birthday, but I don't know you, and I don't care." He'd do great at that if he doesn't already.

danehb89 he does cameo already, and it’s not even like that. like most celebrities on cameo, he just rambles for a minute wishing happy birthday or whatever, and makes it painfully clear that he didn’t plan beforehand what he was going to say

@@hoardofjules it feels like his acting has gotten worse or something? maybe it's just the combination of the writing and the fact that he has to do a monologue with a camera 6 inches from his face but it was so strange...like someone was doing an impression of stanley from the office for halloween
