Just found this same machine on the side of the road for scrap so i stopped and grabbed it for parts , it was from a heavy smokers house and covered in tobacco smoke , got it home and low and behold the thing was complete minus the bobbin wich i have spare ones , turns out im going to restore it because after a good bath its in mint shape , hope i can use your videos to do a step by step restore ,i just love anything vintage because the quality and serviceability , you cant fix todays plastic crap just replace it , but not to long ago humans accually cared about what they made not how much profit they can make from consumerism , were so about recycling today butyet we dont makething to last like the old days , think about it , if we made it to last and be repaired instead of throw away we are allready reducing polution ... im doing my part by saving quality so our kids know once apona time we cared about what we made and where it went when it was done being used ..........

Sounds like a solid plan - these older machines are real workhorses!

Is it possible to slow down the time lapse? Just got one of these, my first sewing machine, and I can't follow at all lol. Not even paused! Thanks for showing what you used tho :- )

@Dave's Things I Do Channel Ha thanks! It's even blurry/jumpy at 0.25 but get the idea. The 237 is my go to for heavy duty things. I normally use a 1964 Bernina 730 Record which is also a great machine. Cheers, t

Agreed. This is a great sewing machine. I acquired one to salvage the motor for another project. I tried it first and it was seized. A look inside showed full metal parts that had not been cleaned or lubed in a long time. tracing the movement enabled me to free it up. I oiled it, got some thread, and gave it a go. Now I don't think I'll salvage the mother.... it's too good!!!

Moms 800 series Bernina was awesome in the same way, many points to oil, very fussy as to excess lint and super fussy on needle straightness and exactly how far in the holder the needle was.......but a great sewer when it was tuned.
I did sewing on sailboat sails with it and it buttonholed faster and better than a modern machine.
Here's to fully manual technology, have fun and may I suggest usually looking for the simplest solution when "she" acts up, I tended to overlook the needle and the smoothness of the plate the bobbin thread emerged out of, at first.
Later, each time a needle broke I restored the smoothness of that plate opening carefully.
You may never have these problems with your Singer.

Not sure on that, we were able to clean ours and have it work.

I found this machine at a thrift store. It looks clean inside and out. But the feed dog knob is stuck in the up position. Can you help me with this. I have never cleaned or maintainiced a machine before , I do find this very interesting and want to learn more.

Try some WD-40 to dissolve any grease or grime that might be holding things up.

What type of bobbin does this machine use

I think it’s a class 66, but would need to do some digging on the internet as I haven’t used that machine in a while.
