I’m a retired police chief turned writer, and I use my monochromatic photography to illustrate my essays and stories. So sometimes, photography can become a complementary passion in support of one’s writing, or even business. There’s a bar in Utah that uses their gorgeous photos to promote their bar. And Mark Twight, the famous alpinist turned personal training guru, often uses his Leica b/w images to promote his gym.

An uplifting video giving me that additional kick to pursue a concrete goal. Mine is basic and simple: (1) putting together a series of 20 seascapes. (2) Print them platinum and (3) exhibit.
I have the series, the printing is coming up next month (one of your video sent me to that vortex, platinotype is now an obsession), Next step will be making the "exhibition" a reality.
So that's my "dream". I am sure your channel gives other photographers that necessary kick to make things happen.

This is a timely message for me. I got into photography with a close friend many years ago, but I ended up going in other directions just to make ends meet. He passed away unexpectedly last month, and that's got me re-evaluating some things in my life. You never know how frail life truly is until something like that happens, and it really makes you want to put your energy into things that matter and that you're passionate about.

Awesome story Paul and congrats on where you're at. I started out as an early teen my old dad took a shot of me and my sister went under the stairs came out a while later with a shiny 10x8 black and white print.....mind blown life long passion ignited. I spend over a decade shooting sports for a local paper, then doing weddings and portraits, all between working 12 hours shifts in a Yorkshire chemical plant. In 2004 I moved to New Zealand with a plan to shoot weddings. I took a punt and contacted the local daily paper see if they needed a freelancer, by chance they actually needed a full time staffer, almost 20 years on I still here shooting every day for the paper and for myself in between making youtube vids of the experience loving every second of it. For me a day without a camera in hand is pretty much a shyte day.

I started at 20 with my father's camera: a Praktica LTL3, then he bought me a kit to develop B&W, because there was no doubt that photography was in B&W. Im here to improve my street portraits but the road is long
