I really agree. I think at the end of the day, use whatever camera you want, and what brings you joy. Especially using it in public, no one recognizes or even knows what a Leica is. There may be 10-20 people a year who will approach you because of it, but the others don’t care.

I just recently bought a Leica D Lux 109 (Leica’s version of a “point and shoot”) and it truly is a phenomenal camera. The quality of the photos are magic, it’s hard to explain, but the proof is in the pictures themselves. I may work my way up to a Q2 M sometime in the future. Enjoy your videos!

I just took new/used Leica Q to the local brewery and the young waitress IMMEDIATELY picked up on the elegance of the Leica. She asked, "what is that?" and I immediately felt a little guilty having an expensive device while she was using an old EOS Rebel for school stuff. But then I realized I've used cheap, used cameras on my way up and entry level stuff. Now that I'm established in my career at age 57 I deserve it! No guilt. Leica is magical with a ton of history! I travel and the Q is THE travel camera along with X100V, X70, LX10, and many others. It's a tool but a high-end tool. That's all.

I have used many brands of camera's through the decades and finally decided to save up the funds to give a Leica M a go. I recently picked up a (Q typ 116) to add to my M10 kit and these 2 together give me so much joy using them and the images are second to none.
I have only been approached 4-5 times in the past 3 years while out shooting (and I carry one of them everywhere) that someone actually knew or even cared that I was using a Leica.
    Love the images Paul..

I waited far too long to get a Leica, I should have bought one years ago instead of keeping on keeping on keeping on with the brand I'd used for 20 years..... then I tried a Q2 last year, after a short while my big bag of pro gear many of us feel we 'need' sat unused. I was fortunate to get a Q3 day after launch, part exchanged all my other gear, the Q3 is now my only camera and the freedom it has given me is endless, not to mention the benefit of not hauling a heavy bag around on my old arthritic joints 🙃I now take the photographs I can take and leave the rest to others young and fit enough to handle the weight. One benefit of leaving it so long is that I have reached an age when I don't care what others think of those of us fortunate enough to use a Leica, any negative remarks say more about them than it does about us 🙂. Keep up the good work, Paul.

Greetings from Japan Paul. As you know, I've owned my used Leica Q2 Monochrom for around 6 months. Your great video sparked this thought...the Q2M hasn't magically made me a better Photographer, it HAS made me "a better me"! Because of its best-in-class ergonomics, it motivates me to use it more. Because of how it's designed without so many function buttons and menu-dive options, it gets out of my way and focuses me on Photography fundamentals. Because of its incredible Monochrome sensor+Summilux f1.7 Lens combination which delivers amazing detail, it pushed me to improve my Lightroom skills in post-processing. Bottom line, I'm happier shooting, I see more when I'm out shooting and more creative in my craft...I'm a better person behind the camera. I do have one regret...not getting it sooner then I did 📷🖤👁‍🗨👍👍‼️

Well done! My first Leica was the QP. This was after evolving from Canon and Fujifilm. I was terrified when I got it. I equated Leica's with world renown photographers, the likes of which I can't even hold my own with. However, overtime, I have come to this conclusion; photographing with a Leica, be it film or digital, it is a lifestyle, a choice of simplicity in photographing with a rangefinder. Much like those who rather ride a Harley Davidson, it is their lifestyle.

What I like about my M10P and M4 is that I have a digital and a film camera that use the exact same lenses. The M4 is my "monochrome" lol.
What I also like is that I can still send my M4, which is nearly 60 years old, back to Leica for full factory service. Not possible with any other film camera.
It's an investment in "kit" as those in the UK like to say lol, but it all makes me happy.
    Cheers from the US 🙂

I don't think people say you don't need a Leica to take good photos isn't generally said in a negative or hurtful sense. I would just say that it means that if you are in the very large boat of people who can't justify/afford a Leica and image quality is your only concern then you can get equal or better photos with a more affordable combination, there is no way it will be as nice but no need to be down or get too wrapped up in GAS, work on the art. The best thing about Leica imo is the lens size/quality, and I would absolutely love a Q3 but my Z7 is doing the job for me fine.

I’m a very mediocre photographer and have used several brands of film and digital cameras over the years. I’ve always lusted after a Leica but knew it wouldn’t in itself improve my photography, although it might help in the short term as I was deeply frustrated at all the dials and menus on my Olympus. After a potentially serious accident in 2020 I decided that life was too short and I should just get what I wanted. Fortunately, I was in a position afford one so I got the Q2. And then an M11. Nikon is actually knee con, in Japan, I am told. Well I did buy a Leica lens for my Panasonic GX-9 Well sorta Leica! 🤗 The 15mm f1.7 is pretty cool. I just have to get used to using that field of view of 30mm more. I now have a couple more in that 28mm range to use. I am so used to shooting more in the 50mm, it is taking time to get etched into the mind how close I now need to be, or who much extra width is going to be taken in before the snap takes place. After looking up the specs on that Leica, I see it is in all not too heavy - not sure on length of that lens. Why the single slot for SD card --- not enough room for two? No tilt screen? The older I get the more reduction is weight and bulk is what I want for most these days. Those Leica cameras are indeed a work of art. I like your channel. You are straight forward and genuine. Thank you, Loren

I too have the Panasonic GX9 and PL15mm lens set up. It is really a sweet small & light set up. I like to make believe I’m HCB using a Leica 3.
I have some PL lenses. I have a Leica bag I take with me to the supermarket, and have a Leica sales ticket attached to my keys. That is as close to my owning anything Leica.
The PL lenses are designed in conjunction with Leica but they are manufactured by Panasonic. They are not Leica lenses. Everything in the Leica universe is extremely expensive. That is bad for my wallet. I find the technology in the Leica not the best. For example, Sony autofocus is quick, accurate, and sticky.
I know Leica users sing their praises to their Leica gear. I have borrowed and used Leica gear on photo walks sponsored by my local camera stores. I know an hour or two may not be adequate. I did not feel the love nor see any significant differences in my images. Pearls before swans?
My solution is I went to Office Depo and purchased some adhesive red dots. I will put them on my Fuji and Lumix bodies. This way I will save 5-10X the money.

No everybody can actually afford a Leica. Sure, I have an old v-lux and an old c-lux but neither of them was expensive. You can’t find a cheap modern Leica and there is where you have issues. People will always get jealous of what they see as rich man stuff. Leica cameras definitely fit that bill for the vast majority of people. I will admit I like the Leica color and black and white science, but have found I also like others as well. I think Leica would do well to the photography and consumer markets, as a whole, by creating a lower priced entry level product. It would definitely eliminate some of that onus surrounding ownership of Leica products.

It is true Leica is only accessible to someone with money. Certainly not the poor. However there are many that can not afford other things like that new car they want so much yet will take it out on finance. The same is possible with a modern Leica. I wanted one so much that I took my Q2M out on finance. It’s paid off now but there was no way I could have purchased one outright. I’m not saying that’s what everyone should do. It’s just what I wanted to do.

Agreed, maybe justifiable if a tax write-off for a Professional. I know the 'Leica look' can be simulated in post or closely in Camera.

If I wanted a quick divorce, I'll go for a leica. All joking aside if I really wanted one I'm sure the wife would grudgingly not give me a hard time. Even If I found the camera I wanted from leica I think I would still avoid them. Leica reminds me of my watch collection. I would save up and get one I liked and one day I had thirty watches. But the thing I realized is the maintenance needed for upper teer automatic watches is pricey. And they tend to have more issues which plagues leica. So now I try and stick with small microbrand watch companies that give fantastic finish and details but with a more simple movement. I've tried and followed that logic with my cameras and lenses. I consider OMS/Olympus the micro brand of the camera world.

Ha haa! Yeah so far I’ve had no maintenance costs on the two Leicas I have. But I totally get it.

@paulreidphotography hopefully most won't, but every last digital m camera that's come out has had multiple issues. They handle the problems and I hear great things about customer service warranty from a wedding photographer i know who has sent in his m camera 4 frickin times. In 20 years with olympus I can't think of any serious manufacturing or hardware issues with them. I don't think enough serious photographers take that into consideration. Leica makes fantastic quality products, they just need to solve mostly their firmware issues.
