  • I bought a 2007 Honda VTX 1300R with 5600 miles on it. After selling the bikes I had, I lasted two years before I broke down and bought another one. I put a Memphis Shades quick release windshield, Mustang tank bib, rear luggage rack with a backrest on order. Mounted my GPS and GoPro Ram mount, and put a GoHauk power outlet on the handlebars. Now it's time to change all the fluids and it should be ready to roll. Do something nice for someone today.

Wow, that was really a find. I was about 2 hours away from buying a 2005 1800 before I decided to get the 1300.

    Hi,
I like how you have the gps mounted on your motorcycle. I have a 2006 VTX 1300C with 67,000 miles on it and would like to know how and where you connected your power cords from your motorcycle to the gps. Can you let me know how you did it or where I can find out how to do it for my bike? Thank you.

I have a GoHawk CA-1 cigarette adapter I bought from Amazon that includes a handlebar mount, wiring harness, and fuse holder. I also have a double cigarette lighter adapter I bought from Walmart. There is no part number, but I bought it online and it shows it is made by SHILEYI. I paid $8.38 for it. I had to make a handlebar mount for it, a wiring harness and a fuse holder. I plug my GPS into the cigarette lighter adapter and use the other 2 for power to cameras. I ran the wiring underneath the gas tank and connected them to the battery using a fuse holder. It is important to fuse the positive wire and to leave enough slack in the wires at the handlebar so when you turn them the wire isn't pulled tight or pinched. The fuse has to match the wire size and power outlet capacity. I tried to follow existing wiring where I could and made sure the wiring would not get pinched. The power outlets are powered all the time, so you have to be sure to turn off whatever is plugged into them. I always unplug everything after I am done riding. The bonus to having the cigarette type outlets is I plug my battery maintainer into one of them using a cigarette adapter that came with the maintainer, and keep my battery charged. It is fast to hook and unhook and I don't have a battery maintainer wire hanging off the side. The outlet has to have an amperage rating equal to, or greater than the maintainer or it will possibly destroy the outlet, or worse.
