My 16” 2019 i9 16gb RAM MBP is still going along.
It does well for basic tasks as mentioned but photo and video work is just too demanding and even editing in 1080p, there is sluggishness. Not enough to drastically impact, but enough to make you want an M series processor MBP.
I have a lot of issues using two 4K monitors and I have to restart when ever plugging into them after using my laptop out of the dock. This has been a problem since the beginning and some users also report this issue. No fixed from Apple yet though!
I want to upgrade but don’t feel the need yet as I don’t do any photo or video work anymore.
    Hope this helps!

Thinking about buying this macbook pro since it is the last 16’’macbook with bootcamp… it’s just nice to have the choice to switch between OS’s. Plus it also seems affordable around $1k or even less… basically a 2 in 1.

I think this is a really beautiful machine. It feels great to type on and the screen and speakers are fantastic. I thought I would hate the touch bar but like you I also found that a lot of apps integrate it well and find clever uses for it. Its location directly above your keyboard is really ergonomic. And if you have an iPhone, the integration with your MacBook is really great.
The specs are powerful enough for my needs (programming, typical office work, some music software and the occasional Photoshop edit), but I can imagine that HD/4K video editing might be a bit of a stretch on most models. The Intel processor also runs quite hot, and I fully expect my machine's performance to tank due to thermal throttling if I'm working outside during the hotter months of the year. But I guess that that's the price to pay for the nice slim form factor.
The Apple Silicon ARM chips are definitely better in this regard (better performance and way cooler), but a large benefit of the older Intel chips is that I can still dual boot Linux on my machine. I accept that to most people this doesn't matter but for me it's a big plus. And since the older Intel-Macs are still being supported for the foreseeable future (they'll even get the new MacOS 15 Sequoia and at least 2 years of security updates after "official" software support has seized), I think it's a really great deal at its price point.

I used this machine as my workstation, I really like the big notchless display and the speakers are simply awesome, the negatives are obvious and it’s the Intel chip, it feels clunky and unresponsive compared to my personal M2 Air (base) plus the fans are annoying especially when doing Zoom calls for work, Touch Bar is fine, gives the MacBook a modern look.

11 hours battery life rofl. I maybe get 4 hours if i stick to one tab with nothing else running. 2 hours if im doing moderately intensive task. And about an hour and 20 minutes doing intensive tasks. truly pathetic. If you plan to keep it plugged in all the time then the throttling is the only issue

I've always wondered how the battery life is compared to windows machines. My 2022 Windows Laptop (I think I paid 800€) lasts around 5 hours of decent usage (Excel, writing Mails, PowerPoint and Web browsing).
How long do you think would the machine push on like half brightness with those tasks in mind? Since that machine is still faster than my Windows machine, I would like to upgrade. Especially because I already own a 2018 iPad Pro as well as an iPhone 13.

    • @haruyanto8085

I was fourtunate enough to get one for free in exchange for my time fixing it myself. But after about a couple months the nand combusted. I would have just gotten an M1 but i managed to find an MDM locked board for cheap so i applied some coating to the problem areas and im hoping this macbook lasts me for a very long time or else its going to be bye to intel macs for me.
