Well that's either a joke or an actual accusation, and I'm not sure which
Anyway, that's not how TV shows work. Season 2 was being written a sizeable amount of time ago, possibly before season one even premiered. So the reason the writing in this episode was seriously lacking (and to an extent the majority of other season 2 episodes) was....
      A. It was covid times. Everything sucked.
      B. The writing was outsourced, likely because this was around the time that Hazbin was picked up, and Viv was primarily focusing on that.
      C. Adam Neylan wrote this episode. Same guy who wrote "Seeing Stars" and "Exes and Oohs"... Enough said.

Millie didn't even really need a ton of development, in my opinion. I admit she needed a more distinct personality, because she was one note and basically a background character, but not anything crazy. If she was going to get her own episode, it should've been back in S1. Whatever this is just.... isn't it

Personally I think it would've made more sense for Blizø to take Moxxie with him in search of his sister and have Millie run the investigation/hit with Loona. As we see in this very episode Blitzø never trusted Moxxie with the hit and only put him in charge to get him out of the room. Although this idea might still seem out of character for Blitzø as he would want to find his sister on his own and doesn't seem fully comfortable letting Loona go on missions, I still think it'd be an adequate reason to split up the M&M for an episode and for Millie (And Loona) can get more character growth outside of Blitzø and Moxxie.

Barbie Wire actually needed a crunch to have a legit disguise. She was wearing a bracelet that allows imps to look human. The wearer just depends on who has permission to have it from the higher-ups. An example is Vaggie whose spear is an angel weapon and is believed to be from Lucifer's weapons vault and she was only allowed to have it because she's Charlie's girlfriend. (don't @ me on this).

I think the next episode of Season 2 will be further diving into Blitzø’s backstory. Based on the latest Season 2 trailer, the remaining scenes we’ve yet to see are in an episode that includes Fizzarolli and Asmodeus. One of those scenes is an interaction between Blitzø and Fizzarolli. So, we may get some insight as to why the two of them had a falling out. On top of that, we still have that one scene of a young Blitzø and Fizzarolli going to what appears to be a Mammon concert which may end up being either the beginning of said episode or in a flashback.

Okay so, I have an idea on how to fix the episode.
    - cut the scene where Millie immediately figures out the killer
    - instead of the teens hating Moxxine for no reason, they are just weirded out a little (also make Moxxine socially awkward instead of a Wattpad protagonist) and they actually try to befriend her after all of them start simping over Millerd.
    - conflict of the story: Moxxie tries to find out more about the killer while Millie is enjoying herself. Moxxie can't get any information from the teens because they all just wanna talk about Millerd. This causes Moxxie to be frustrated and call Millie out for not focusing on the job. That's when the fight scene happens, which can also be made deeper by elaborating on Millie feeling important.
-After the fight, they go their separate ways. That's when we cut to Barbie, who witnessed the fight. She now knows that someone is onto their business and tries to stop Moxxie.
-Moxxie goes to the boathouse to look for clues, meanwhile Millie is performing the concert, sad that she can't find Moxxie but pushing through.
    - At the boathouse, Barbie attacks Moxxie from behind and intends to drown him so he wouldn't find about about the drug dealing.
    - Blitzø comes in just before that happens and then the boathouse scene happens pretty much like in the original episode, but with a hint or an exposition on why there's a rift between Barbie and Blitzø.
    - After the killer dies and Barbie leaves, Moxxie suddenly realizes he fucked up by leaving Millie alone in an important moment for her and rushes to the stage, only to find that the concert already ended. Mollie acts apathetic towards him, clearly hurt by this. She feels like he doesn't care as much about her as she does for him, which creates a rift between them which will require several episodes and a heart-to-heart to fix.

I too feel fremdschämen when i see how people dont ever mention the obvious truth: Vivzie just had some whacky fantasies in her head but not enough writing skills to line them up correctly and make a story, although the amount of related and unrelated ideas her mind created is pretty impressive (she does have adhd which explains a lot) it's not sufficiently well handled as to do a show that you want people to take seriously. What ends up coming out of this is an incosistent clusterfuck of ideas disguised as a show that wants to be nonserious and serious at the same time but without the needed plot to make a serious cartoon

Totally agree about being frustrated with most of the plot for this episode. And for me, my main sticking point was less "Moxxie's being crapped on again" (as I've sadly come to expect that in this show by now) and more just how poorly they executed the attempt at Millie's "character development".
Millie supposedly "wanting to feel important" _especially_ rubbed me the wrong way, because she showed no indication of not feeling important at any point prior in the series. She always does everything perfectly, is always praised by everyone, and then she has this so-called development of "not feeling important". Yeah, it's probably a meta point about how she's treated as unimportant by the writers or the fans, but in-universe, that doesn't work. It could potentially work if Helluva was like The Grim Adventures of Billy and Mandy where they break the 4th wall all the time, but Helluva isn't that kind of show.
Just like prior to this episode, Millie is still essentially just "Moxxie's badass wife", but now with a shoehorned attempt at a character trait that they tacked on there with no prior build-up unlike with Blitzo and Moxxie's self-esteem problems. And that's just bad writing.

  • @RandomGameCritic
    @RandomGameCritic  Рік тому +199

A few things of note here:
Millie's reaction to Moxxie's "Time of the month" joke was also really funny, especially with Vivian Nixon's perfect delivery. I was also shocked to learn that Counselor Jimmy was voiced by Monica Franco, the voice of Vaggie. I might have removed sins for these two things under different circumstances, but I wanted to keep the sin removals to a minimum because I wanted people to really understand how much I despised this episode.
Also, I have no clue why everyone is insisting that Barbie used some sort of bracelet to disguise herself. I must have missed that detail because I have absolutely no clue what you guys are talking about.
Edit: Okay fine, FINE. It was the diamond pattern of her transformation. Valid point. But I'm not apologizing for missing this detail in the actual video. Frankly, I would have blown a gasket over the fact that asmodeus crystals even existed at all if it wasn't for the fact that I live on Reddit and managed to see someone post the translation of a single screenshot that "established" what they were.
There's nothing wrong with correcting me, but do NOT hold it against me for missing some details now and again.

I got to be honest my least favorite part of this episode was how Millie's character is almost... leeching off of Moxxie's. This is now the THIRD episode that tries to prove Moxxie isn't weak, and it never actually delivers on it, Millie just does everything for him again, even accidently killing Jimmy by a complete miracle of anti-moxx-ness, because we can't allow him to be good at anything. Just the previous two episodes he's been getting stronger, and yet it feels like they took a season one episode where he still sucks and just... dropped it between season two. If this episode was actually in season one, I wouldn't have hated it so much, but Stolas is in the hospital, Crimson is apparently swearing revenge on I.M.P., the D.H.O.R.K.S. are still out there, Striker is still out there, we could literally be focusing on anything else but another missed opportunity for Moxxie to do something for himself for once instead of getting help AGAIN.

I really like Helluva Boss, but, this episode..
I really didn't liked it. Especially for the same reason, Moxxine. Moxxie is one of my favourite character of the show but, just, no ! He's just not what Moxxine reflects of him, but I guess you explained it better in the vid' , with the german word also.
What I wanted to talk about is Barbie's transformation. When she changed into a more human form there were crystal like shapes around her, and, as we saw earlier in the episode, those shapes are assimilated with Asmodean Crystals (which Blitzo use to travel to the human realm, also, he didn't used Stolas Book). If we saw Verosika transform in S1E3, we would have saw those shapes I think.
As I understand it, Some creatures can transform into human like form (Stolas, and Hellhounds), and others (such as Succubi) needs to transform into humans and to go the human realm, so they use Asmodean Crystals, and every species can use them (Imp for example).
But why would Hellhounds be able to transform while not having a way to travel to the human realm ? That's the Limit of my theory..

7:29 I'm sorry, I genuinely can't believe someone would miss this, Barbie doesn't care if Blitzo was the one that actually killed Jimmy. Him being around her is clearly enough for her to be upset. To her, if Blitzo wasn't around, Jimmy would be alive (which also makes sense with the episode because either Barbie could take Moxxie in a fight and end it quicker or Moxxie kills Jimmy way faster and she never learns it was Blitzo's company) and she would still have her job. The nurse telling Blitzo not to mess up Barbie's life, not by interfering, but by simply finding her, tells me at least, that Barbie believes that bad things are bound to happen when Blitzo is just around, leading to her just not wanting to be around him ever (and also her blaming anything that goes wrong in her life on him if he happens to be nearby, maybe cause of something in the past but idk).
That's not an error, that's telling us how Barbie feels about Blitzo😅

I said it on Tumblr, and I'll say it here too; I love that we got Barbie’s introduction and some Millie focus……. But it also would’ve been nice if those two things had their own episode-
As is, it feels like neither gets enough focus and cancel each other out as Millie and Barbie have no real connective tissue in the plot.
Just refer to Harvest Moon in season 1; Moxxie-focused and introduced Striker who was directly tied to Moxxie’s insecurities, amplifying both in the process.
Why couldn’t Unhappy Campers be like that? And yeah, I'm getting real tired of the "everyone hates Moxxie" thing too-

Saaame. I had serious fremdschamen when it came to Moxie/Moxine. Like yeah, it would have been fine, overall, if the joke had stopped after moxie attempted to talk with the human girls - failed - and then switched it up or said screw it and went with millie's straightforward approach. But since they continued to force the moxine joke through the whole episode and suddenly made moxie super narsasistic, towards millie no less, the majority of the episode just felt like a drag aside from blitz's side plot
Even though, personally, I did kind of like/didn't mind millie's songs though I can't exactly put my finger on why.

Honestly it’s not that Moxxie was an insecure jerk that was an issue for me (that has been shown a lot in the previous episodes), it was more taking out his insecurities ON HIS WIFE, which ticked me off. Because for all of HB, we’ve been constantly reminded how much the M&Ms are relationship goals, constantly sticking together and caring for each other through thick and thin. The one healthy relationship amongst all the toxic ones. But this outburst seems a bit out of left field, even for Moxxie.

Where during that entire line of events does he try this again?

@5:48 - 7:03 Hit the nail on the head regarding why imps can't disguise themselves as humans, but hell-hounds can.
I'll further add that it shouldn't be the viewers' job to fill in the blanks or correct the contradictions left behind by the writers of the show, so saying things like "Maybe hell-hounds have some powers that the imps don't have, but imps are more powerful overall" or "Maybe part of this hierarchy is entirely social like all of the unfair hierarchies that are present in the real world" does nothing to clarify why something unfolds the way it does in an episode. Seriously, I could come up with an answer to why something is this way in the show that as equally inventive as these answers, but it would be conjecture, not evidence.
As I've said before on your other videos, the writers of this show really need to nail down the concept of The Plausible Impossible - i.e. consistency within an fantastic story world, even if it's something as mundane as social hierarchies (e.g. Ozzie's and Queen Bee regarding social taboos of who can have a relationships with who).

One of my favorite details, and possibly the only thing I liked from this episode myself (even though I must admit I didn't notice it until I re-watched the end section a few times since it was frankly the only part of the episode worth watching) was the way Barbie had her family crest or whatever it was on her forehead crossed out to show that either she had been disowned when she went to rehab or had done it herself to say she wasn't a part of the same family as Blitz anymore... of course, there was no acknowledgement of any sort for this and its implications, consequences, or reason, but that seems to feel like most of this show so far... fun ideas that the fans are required to flesh out with their own headcanons as collectively agreed on by the fandom... or little ideas that almost seem like they were supposed to be so much more but never went anywhere... Like we get full continuity for Blitz's sister, but nothing for the possible similarities between the death of the client and Moxie's mother in a Moxie/Millie centered episode...
Also as a side thing, since I didn't see this in the comments a lot... did anyone else think Blitz was sneaking into the hospital to visit Stolas instead of his sister's rehab?

I honestly loved this episode, mostly because now Moxxie and Millie feel like characters and not fluff fic protags. To me, even though it's not executed the best, this plotline is groundbreaking!
I agree that the M&Ms made up way too quick, but I don't agree that this is out of character for either of them. Millie feeling unimportant would be an outlandish claim if she had the same background as everyone else, but she's from the Wrath ring where people as strong as her are dime a dozen. She herself was sidelined from big events because she fucked up and was too open with her bloodshed. So it makes sense with this background that she'd feel this way. And Moxxie, Moxxie's insecurities have been a plot point since Episode 5, only this time they're painted in a negative light, and the connotation shift is not done well so I agree that on first watch, I did think this was out of character. But, Moxxie is as plagued with insecurities as Blitzø and for the first time, he was trusted with something, and his WIFE who was already the powerhouse of the company, figured it out in two minutes!
As for the negatives, I hated Moxxine and I hated the incest jokes, I strongly agree. I disagree with the song though. I feel like this is the most in character thing Moxxie could do this episode. He puts a wrong foot forward by doing a more theatre-based song, which is already not up the kids' alley, but he makes it worse by overcompensating and injecting all of his insecurities into the song and I personally think this one moment was genius.
This is definitely not a perfect episode, but I definitely loved it.

Just a comment with some of my thoughts
I think the reason why Moxxie failed so bad while Millie was extremely successful was because Moxxie tried to fit a character that didn't feel like himself. Millie was able to fit in the Millerd persona because it wasn't too out of character for her; it feels right at home for her to be proficient at sports and she doesn't have to fake anything to fit in.
On the other hand, Moxxie was trying to be someone he was not for the whole episode and had to guess a lot of the information and blunder through all of the interactions he had, kind of like Elf when Buddy had to interact with humans for the first time because he grew up in the North Pole (basically cringe and embarrassing to witness such events that would otherwise be navigated effortlessly for an 'average' human)
I felt like Moxxie should have had the option to bring more disguises to this week-long job, even though it could have and should have been finished on the first day. Considering the corkboard he set up before initiating the hit, even though it was based on little information, Moxxie portrayed himself as a methodical tactician who wanted to do the job with precision
If more disguises were available, I think it could have improved the episode by using Moxxine as a method that failed, so Moxxie would try a different persona to continue pushing the investigation forward. It would have lowered the amount of fremdschämen and cringe that the audience had to endure, and possibly make the fight more meaningful because Moxxie would be getting frustrated that none of his methods were working while Millie was able to easily fit into her persona and be a popular figure. That and maybe it would have written out the incest jokes and possibly create a celebrity scandal that probably had a better chance at landing, if they had to keep the news flash at the end

I think it's unfair to say Moxie and Millie can't have a fight. Moxie has been shown to have many insecurities and this being his first official lead only for Millie to spot the correct guy right away plummeted his hope. One of the big issues with the series (no fault of Viv or Spindlehorse at all) is that the episodes take a while to release. I think the 'Moxime' character is quite literally a character that Moxie puts on to try and air out his trauma and desperate need for approval that is bursting out in petulance evident of his song only focusing him. You could say season 1 ep 6 shows Moxie's growth past his desperation, but all that came crashing down after he was forced to revisit the house where only his abusive father raised him.
For Millie thinking she isn't important I'd believe that's more about her not thinking she stands out. She is native and was raised in Wrath, where being violent and being very good at killing with your own hands is the standard, and that's why enjoys the celebrity attention, as she's know being known for something else even if she's under an 'disguise'.
This show seems to have a bad or poor habit or trying to foreshadow too much, instead of just outright telling us some very key things like why EXACTLY Moxie is lashing out Millie, instead of just having Moxie take a very hard turn especially since Moxie has been someone who has almost always blamed either himself in cases where it is undoubtedly someone's fault like Blitz making very convenient noise at the beginning of the Truth Seeker episode.

I feel like the "Imps should be able to disguise themselves too" is an unfair thing for you to point out...because they still can't. Asmodeus crystals are implied to not only open portals to the living realm AND disguise the user, if you look at the effects when Barbie opens the portal and transforms back into her normal imp form, the effects are very similar. So Barbie isn't the one with the power. The crystal on her bracelet/watch is what's letting her look human and enter the human world.

i agree with most of these opinions. BUT there are a few things i wanna share my opinions about.
first off, i wouldn't lable this as a bad episode, more like an okay episode, but that might just be because millie finally got some attention, even if it still turned into her having to support moxxie again. it's just annoying that even in an episode where she gets some spotlight, she's still pretty much the same. all we know is that she doesn't feel important/special to anybody (not even her husband apperantly) which i thing both have to do with her family. seeing as millie has many siblings who are all probably just as good at fighting and killing as she is, it would make sense why she likes the attentions the humans give her. and i do hope we get to see more of the reason behind her wanting the attention.
now moxxie was....just a dick, but it wan't out of character. moxxie's whole thing is being insecure about himself and wanting to do stuff the right way. now he gets his first mission so everything has to go perfect, and when it doesn't he gets petty. he gets angry like he's a 5 year old and people aren't playing the game how he want's it to be played, and with all that anger he lashes out at millie. i agree with people who are saying that they solved it way to fast, they could've done the fight, then have moxxie go after the killer and realise his mistakes as he sees barbie telling blitzo to fuck off as she goes through the portal, and THEN he goes to the stage to apologize to millie. we didn't need the millerd being complimented and praised at the start of the concert.
for blitzo-well i don't have much. i mean it was fun to see barbie, i liked her, i liked her voice. it's annoying that we still don't know why every relationship with him is fucked up and that's pretty much it for him
and i have literally nothing to say about loona besides the fact that she once again says nothing. the reason for this has been shared on twitter but it's annoying that such a fan favourite character is basically being muted my the creator.
once again these are my opinions, you can agree or disagree all you want but it won't change my mind on how i see this episode

I disagree that Moxxie and Millie having a fight wouldn’t be believable. Even the healthiest relationships have fights.

Bro is getting quick with these new videos
Edit: now that I've finished the video I completely agree, I hated this episode and I only really saw like half of it cuz I kept on just pressing the skip 10 seconds button, until barbie wire showed up

I somehow sat through almost all of it with the help of the pause button.
      I give that experience a solid 1/10.

Honestly I do think that it is a funny "coincidence" that both Viv and Kyle are pumping out these videos as quick as they are.

For Millie's song in this. I interpreted that at first she was trying to stay modest with the fame but as the song goes on it becomes obvious she's just humble bragging.

This is exactly how I feel That is the episode I hate with every fiber of my existence. I completely forgot about the importance of Barbie wire And the crystal just because of how unbearable it was listening to moxxie.

I don't feel all that much sympathy for Mox. He's not growing - I just see him bringing his wife down to the level he thinks he's at because he's insecure. It's always her supporting him and his ego. Never the other way around.
Honestly it would have fit more if Moxxie were the star and Millie was ignored. Then the emotional climax would be resonant with a dynamic that's already there. Moxxie's ego almost ruins a case and discourages/ignores his wife, but they reconcile and he humbles himself enough to listen to her lead on the mystery and they have a final concert together after solving it.
Also for a whole new family member of Blitz's to be introduced and established as someone he worries about and a drug addict... There should have been better pacing with all that potential yk.

I think the reason that Millie felt that she was 'never important' is because of having so many siblings.

they should’ve introduced Barb in The Circus, but no. we just get a female imp that seemed like a groomer because she flashed Jimmy (who seemed like he was around 15 or 16). Sure, Viv did state in a tweet that counselor Jimmy is 18 or 19, but i am not convinced.

Honestly the episode would be average-ish if it wasn't for Moxie who feels like a completely different character. First of all we already have plenty of moxie feels insecure and an adequate episodes we didn't need another one, impacted felt like the show was having moxie step his game up especially after the last episode. Then we get this, where he seemed to be dumber, reckless, and overall a giant baby. Which really sucks because Moxie usually is my favorite character and I would have loved to have seen him prove he could handle this on his own. This is the only episode in the human world this season and it was really disappointing.

Don't forget that "Seeing Stars" was in the human world, but the characters weren't on a job.

The most common explanation I've seen for why Barbie Wire has a human disguise is that her transformation spell uses the same crystalline animation that her opening the portal does, therefore Asmodean crystals can do shapeshifting magic too. (Which would genuinely make sense given Asmodeus' powers, penchant for shapeshifting, and the general association succubi have with human disguises as well.)
This would be a pretty good explanation, honestly, but it just rides on so many "implied", "probably", "it seems to work this way", and catching a small visual detail that for all we know doesn't mean anything... if just ONE of any of those elements was further clarified or reinforced, we'd have a great answer. We'd be left with the question of "why does Barbie have a crystal", but, damn.
edit: goofed some of my wording lmao NEVER COMMENT BEFORE FINISHING THE VIDEO LADS

Okay but is NOBODY going to talk about the literal sex scene at the end in front of an audience full of minors? This is legit the only thing that I found actually messed up, even for the show's standards. If it was in front of a normal audience, one filled with actual adults, it would be just a "haha incest joke moment". But no, they pulled that in front of a crowd filled with preteens. Actual children. Who animated this? Who actually approved this?? Who thought that it would be a good idea to do such a thing in the first place?
And don't start with the "it's an adult show". No, I am not saying that. Even though there's also minors that are watching the show, the show itself informs you that this is an adult animation. The issue here is that the production decided to animate Millie and Moxxie have a +18 time in front of children that thought that they two of them were siblings. Again... Who thought that this would be a good idea??
