Yeah, I agree with your opinion on the 'The bottle had holy water in it' thing, because there is absolutely no indication about anything inside that bottle as it just looks like a normal beer bottle. Honestly for longest time I thought that scene was showing us that while Millie is a very competent fighter, she's kinda cocky about it and wasn't really viewing the man as someone who could actually hurt her which lead to the man getting the upper hand on her, since that scene was a part of us and the IMP team learning that this seemingly normal family was actually a whole bunch of maniacs. Murder family is the first official episode of the series, this is the first mission we see IMP do, so I think that would lead most of us to believe that this is IMP still in the learning phase and going into still not completely knowing what they're doing with them getting screwed for it.

I'll again refer to the point I made in the "Murder Family" portion: You might be able to find some sort of in-universe reason for why this scene makes sense. But why was the scene written? To set up the fact that Asmodeus doesn't know Stolas as well as he thinks he does? Pretty lame payoff if you ask me. But even more importantly, Stolas is visibly bothered by Asmodeus' words. It's that reaction that bugs me the most. Stolas felt shame for his actions, but then everything about Stolas' relationship to his wife completely changed literally one episode later (two if you count Ep. 8).

When Asmodeus summons illusions of Stella and Octavia, you can see that stolas looks at Stella shocked, he was just surprised while she was there. When he looks at Octavia, he shows guilt and sadness. Even if he didn't do anything wrong, it seems he was blaming himself for ruining Octavia's family. I think that the scene was just to show that he felt guilt, not that stolas actually ruined the relationship, if you understand what I mean
I just realized something huge: Ozzie's taunts make even LESS sense than I originally thought because Stolas didn't bang Blitzo to fulfill his lustful desires. He did it because he wanted to feel _LOVED._ I've gotten a lot of comments so far related to my thoughts on Ozzie's and how "this song makes no sense considering what we learn about Stolas later" but I'm officially going to double down on what I said. The House of Asmodeus song makes less sense the longer I think about it. Now, there's nothing wrong with making changes to the show. But you will *NEVER* convince me that everything in this show was planned out from the beginning when it very clearly wasn't.

I have a little thing I want to contrast against what you stated about that we later find out Stolas' and Stella's toxic relationship. There was a little bit of indication that Stella has been verbally abusing Stolas in Loo Loo Land (the episode). Sure, the timeline is a little wonky, but if Loo Loo Land happened right after the "still not divorced" party, then what Octavia said ("Are you two done screaming for the day?") could indicate Stella does scream at Stolas often even before he had the affair. Octavia's tone suggested she was quite used to it too. While I do believe this is not enough evidence there was domestic abuse occurring, it at least hinted there was something amiss with their marriage.
I'm looking back at truth seekers and remembering the "cool visuals just for cool visuals" argument and I did agree back then, but I think looking back I appreciate those so much more for the stuff we've gotten recently. Still maybe not worth much but MAN do I love that episode for those looks and the way it deepens the emotions involved.

Well, this is a nice surprise! Always love listening to you talk. Just FYI, I wouldn't necessarily say that The Circus confirmed the pilot did happen, just that the pilot's events were recontextualized and brought into the actual show. The pilot itself isn't canon any more than the Gravity Falls pilot, which had Dr. Crackpot's Book of the Damned, is canon to the first episode Tourist Trapped, which had Journal 3 instead. Same with Infinity Train having the Steward's design change from the pilot to the episode The Corgi Car, which covers the pilot's events within the frame of the show. Pilots themselves are not canon, but often elements of them are reworked into an early episode to bring them into line with canon. Also, I wouldn't say that "we didn't know Stella had done anything wrong" prior to the end of Harvest Moon festival. Octavia moving out of the way of Stela throwing things in Loo Loo Land shows this happens often because Octavia has an automatic coping mechanism, which is not something you would need an automatic go-to for if you didn't live in an abusive household.

ok so this is a thought, an opinion, a theory (??) i have felt for a while. It feels like Viv has a CONCEPT of the characters and their stories, the concepts always feel like they are there (like, for example, the blitzo things, his sisters were thought, the sad backstory was thought, it was kinda shown in the posters and shit) and then basically decides how she's gonna portray them on the way. So like, the concepts are all there yk, the concepts never really change, its just- everything that isnt just a concept that does complete theory ofc but i always felt that the concepts always made sense between episodes, but the setting of them didnt (for example, the messages between stolas and blitzo)

I think Ozzie's line still makes sense as he not only cheated on his wife but did so with an imp. Although this makes him happier personally, it will nevertheless ruin the reputation and status of not only himself but also possibly Octavia's too by mere association.
@@anacondra2293well the problemi find is that the show hasn't or at least at the Ozzie episode just didn't quite expand enough on the actual consequence and responsibility of Stolas's status. Ozzie gave a certian impression of how the status of the goetia family works however in the flashback stolas episode the tone for the goetia family was different. I'm not exactly sure how to explain coherently it's just that the two episodes aren't very consistent with how they portray the Goetia family, in a way.
I have to disagree with your take on Ozzie's. If Stolas was trying to keep the impression of a happy (or at least a decent or manageable) marriage, when would Asmodeus have found about their broken marriage? Without the context of what we later find out, everyone would've thought Stolas ruined the marriage, as most to almost everyone in universe don't know about Stolas' facade by the end of season 1 if Stolas' efforts to give Octavia a somewhat decent childhood are to believed as worth in anyway.
The one thing I would love to see this series get right going forward is the concept of the plausible impossible. Like, I'm fine with a story world inspired by Dante's Divine Comedy and populated with modern-day artistic interpretations of imps, hellhounds, sinners, the Deadly Sins, etc. But the inconsistent story beats and character development tend to make it harder to take the story seriously (yes, it's a comedy series -- I'm talking about emotional investment). Western Energy is a perfect example of what I'm talking about. Some recommended reading that the writers of the show could tremendously benefit from: "The Anatomy of Story" by John Truby (and his recent follow-up "The Anatomy of Genres") "The Writer's Journey" by Christopher Vogler "The Art of Dramatic Writing" by Lajos Egri

I agree with what you said in the loo loo land ep about the emotions happening too early amd over all setting the bar too early, because now whenever its a mainly fun episode with little emotion/plot it feels like nothing is happening. Definitely feel like they've could've taken some of the episodes form season 2 (there's gonna be 13 from what I've heard) and added them to season 1 so we'd have more time to flesh everything out and plant the seeds for things.

There is no way I'm the only one who thought this but just in case I have an idea of how the Whole "Deal for the book" thing happened. My theory is that After the events of "you're going to ravish me aren't you" (Whichever episode that was). I think that he DID steal the book but Stolas just wasn't mad about it. During their conversation in episode one they are discussing the terms of the deal. Implying that before then the deal wasn't a thing. Timeline: Stolas is miserable, stolas sees blitz, blitz and stolas discover if Stolas has a cloaca or not, blitz steals book. Stolas discovers that blitz stole the book, confronts blitz, Blitz needs the book so he tries to negotiate leading to the conversation in episode one where they discuss the terms. It's clear that stolas had feelings for blitz so is it really so hard to believe that stolas may have let it go so he could keep blitz around?

The holy water bottle thing is really dumb, honestly this whole time I thought that it was a normal bottle that Millie somehow got knocked out by. It’s like the scene in Seeing Stars where the director was killed by water Stolas threw at him and the only way to know what happened was to pause the episode and attempt to read the posters in the background
I have a little thing I want to contrast against what you stated about that we later find out Stolas' and Stella's toxic relationship. There was a little bit of indication that Stella has been verbally abusing Stolas in Loo Loo Land (the episode). Sure, the timeline is a little wonky, but if Loo Loo Land happened right after the "still not divorced" party, then what Octavia said ("Are you two done screaming for the day?") could indicate Stella does scream at Stolas often even before he had the affair. Octavia's tone suggested she was quite used to it too. While I do believe this is not enough evidence there was domestic abuse occurring, it at least hinted there was something amiss with their marriage.

Just FYI, I wouldn't necessarily say that The Circus confirmed the pilot did happen, just that the pilot's events were recontextualized and brought into the actual show. The pilot itself isn't canon any more than the Gravity Falls pilot, which had Dr. Crackpot's Book of the Damned, is canon to the first episode Tourist Trapped, which had Journal 3 instead. Same with Infinity Train having the Steward's design change from the pilot to the episode The Corgi Car, which covers the pilot's events within the frame of the show. Pilots themselves are not canon, but often elements of them are reworked into an early episode to bring them into line with canon.
Also, I wouldn't say that "we didn't know Stella had done anything wrong" prior to the end of Harvest Moon festival. Octavia moving out of the way of Stela throwing things in Loo Loo Land shows this happens often because Octavia has an automatic coping mechanism, which is not something you would need an automatic go-to for if you didn't live in an abusive household.

ok so this is a thought, an opinion, a theory (??) i have felt for a while. It feels like Viv has a CONCEPT of the characters and their stories, the concepts always feel like they are there (like, for example, the blitzo things, his sisters were thought, the sad backstory was thought, it was kinda shown in the posters and shit) and then basically decides how she's gonna portray them on the way. So like, the concepts are all there yk, the concepts never really change, its just- everything that isnt just a concept that does
complete theory ofc but i always felt that the concepts always made sense between episodes, but the setting of them didnt (for example, the messages between stolas and blitzo)

I think Ozzie's line still makes sense as he not only cheated on his wife but did so with an imp. Although this makes him happier personally, it will nevertheless ruin the reputation and status of not only himself but also possibly Octavia's too by mere association.

@@anacondra2293well the problemi find is that the show hasn't or at least at the Ozzie episode just didn't quite expand enough on the actual consequence and responsibility of Stolas's status. Ozzie gave a certian impression of how the status of the goetia family works however in the flashback stolas episode the tone for the goetia family was different. I'm not exactly sure how to explain coherently it's just that the two episodes aren't very consistent with how they portray the Goetia family, in a way.
I have to disagree with your take on Ozzie's. If Stolas was trying to keep the impression of a happy (or at least a decent or manageable) marriage, when would Asmodeus have found about their broken marriage? Without the context of what we later find out, everyone would've thought Stolas ruined the marriage, as most to almost everyone in universe don't know about Stolas' facade by the end of season 1 if Stolas' efforts to give Octavia a somewhat decent childhood are to believed as worth in anyway.
The one thing I would love to see this series get right going forward is the concept of the plausible impossible. Like, I'm fine with a story world inspired by Dante's Divine Comedy and populated with modern-day artistic interpretations of imps, hellhounds, sinners, the Deadly Sins, etc. But the inconsistent story beats and character development tend to make it harder to take the story seriously (yes, it's a comedy series -- I'm talking about emotional investment). Western Energy is a perfect example of what I'm talking about.
Some recommended reading that the writers of the show could tremendously benefit from:

I agree with what you said in the loo loo land ep about the emotions happening too early amd over all setting the bar too early, because now whenever its a mainly fun episode with little emotion/plot it feels like nothing is happening. Definitely feel like they've could've taken some of the episodes form season 2 (there's gonna be 13 from what I've heard) and added them to season 1 so we'd have more time to flesh everything out and plant the seeds for things.

There is no way I'm the only one who thought this but just in case I have an idea of how the Whole "Deal for the book" thing happened. My theory is that After the events of "you're going to ravish me aren't you" (Whichever episode that was). I think that he DID steal the book but Stolas just wasn't mad about it. During their conversation in episode one they are discussing the terms of the deal. Implying that before then the deal wasn't a thing. Timeline: Stolas is miserable, stolas sees blitz, blitz and stolas discover if Stolas has a cloaca or not, blitz steals book. Stolas discovers that blitz stole the book, confronts blitz, Blitz needs the book so he tries to negotiate leading to the conversation in episode one where they discuss the terms. It's clear that stolas had feelings for blitz so is it really so hard to believe that stolas may have let it go so he could keep blitz around?
Kudos for admitting your mistakes that along with you admitting what you find to actually sinful and what is just a joke makes you best when it comes to sins channels

To start this comment off, I've watched every entry in your EWW HB series up to S2E4 (will be watching S2E5's shortly). I greatly admire not just your dedication to this series, but your honesty and openmindedness. The HB fandom lately has not been the kindest or most tolerant towards critics, so it's inspiring whenever I see someone face that hostility head on.
Now, about this video specifically: I always love when CinemaSins and creators inspired by their EWW series make a video where they reflect, jokingly or not, on the rationale behind sins from previous entries. I think for ozzie's somg he was already upset that moxxie was playing a lovey song instead of a lustful one ((supported by how he kicks the m&ms out after the song)) so when blitzo speaks up and unintentionally puts the spot light on him and stolas ozzie found an easy target to attack. Much like how in real life people can say things that make sense in the moment to hurt someone but when thinking about it later it makes less sence
Another reason could be is ozzie could be pointing out from his view stolas' lust was stronger than his values to upkeep apperances. This would then be a win for lust and still a dig at stolas.
This is obviously speculation and not fact but i think the route the show is taking is the affair is neither good nor bad.

Asmodeus' taunts makes sense in the context that he is a demon, which other demons will taunt and torture other demons, and you are assuming that Asmodeus knows Stolas personally enough to know what's going on with his feelings. How's Asmodeus supposed to know other Stolas is marriage was healthy or not? From what Asmodeus' perspective as an outsider, he saw a relationship thrown out the window for sex. That's it. I still don't understand why people think that Truth Seekers came out of nowhere when that's not at all what it was trying to do. It was trying to give an explanation to why Blitzo is the way that he is. Blitzo admits that he's a dick because he knows Moxxie is capable of more. It's not meant to be this final moment of buildup, it's meant to establish a character flaw that he has and foreshadow that more is coming on the front of his past.
