Gotta hand it to Major Slack! I have almost 500 hours in and just learned that the three white sections of the big circle actually have a purpose! This is gonna be.a repeat of his Skyrim builds where even at my 1500+ hours he would teach me new stuff! Awesome!
Great walkthrough Slack! I was really confused about the ships HUD and how it all worked, but you did a really good job explaining because it all makes sense now!
I know it's for tutorial purposes, but Mr No Deviations sure puts you on a hell of a deviation. Any other time in the game you are getting harassed you can just add extra power to the grav drive and jump instantly. There's absolutely zero in-universe reason to not just jump straight to Jamison after wiping the first three pirate ships.
So glad the Major is back - that was the best tutorial on ship combat I have seen! One question, if I may, though I am on Xbox instead of PC, could you give us some detail on how you have set your aim and movement sensitivity controls? I keep experimenting, but am still either too slow or too fast 8(

I love that the ships have almost like a VATS system when you lock on. I never knew that until watching your playthrough, hence why I think you're one of the only ones who can give a proper playthrough of the game 😆
good video slack watched it while having my tea (evening meal) ive never used that targetting system but on the xbox its quite intuative , i noticed on my friends copy who has a pc that apart from keys and control differences the game is equally as good on xbox as pc , gone are the days when consoles games wise have lesser quality games
Slack, I really appreciate you going into some depth on ship combat; while Starfield isn't a hardcore space sim (e.g. Elite Dangerous) the ship combat has some depth to it; if anything, space combat has more going on the FPS gameplay on planets. Its one of my favorite aspects of the game. Id love to see a 'Major Slack Approved' treatment on space combat.
Dude! You made this dogfight look soooo easy. It wasn’t that way at all for me. It took me over 3 hours just to get through those first three ships. I got to feeling like I was in my own “Ground Hogs Day.” I kept getting the first ships health down to almost zero just to have it power back up again. The swearing I was doing would make a sailor blush I swear!

A nice tip, as it is sadly not that obvious from the game itself, you can "handbrake" drift in space to execute tighter turns by pressing the "Switch Flight Modes" keybind. On PC that is by default spacebar. Pretty good for keeping your target within your crosshairs.
Will thruster break enemy lock-on? I feel like 1v3 on very hard is brutal to survive. Thrusters are supposed to break lock but thats not how it feels. Only thing that gets me through are hiding behind astroids and quick saves.

Right at the start, before going out to meet Barrett, if you go into the room to the right of the bed you wake up on, behind the elevator there is a box on the wall that may have blue or purple gear in there. There is also a locked gate with some weapon crates but it is expert locked.
I’m doing a melee build it’s tanky but haven’t found great weapons, I use the wakizashi that does more damage the more attacks you hit, it’s based on zoro from one piece so I’m in the crimson fleet and drink a ton of booze
Very good informative video for new players Slack 😊 Have noticed that a lot of UA-camrs think they have to be inside the ship to fast travel, completely unnecessary, you can fast travel from anywhere as long as you are not further in than one loading screen on a location, saves a lot of time.
"you can fast travel from anywhere..." Are you referring to me? Or _other_ UA-camrs? Because I'm already aware of that. In fact, I noticed the same thing as well as a ton of complaints on Metacritic about too many load screens and realized that a lot of people don't know how to fast travel. So I even have a fast travel video planned for this walkthrough.
Something that might help for piloting. (And walkthroughs) When you do the Vanguard quest line, the flight simulation chamber can be used for the piloting and targeting challenges. And you can go back after passing and exiting. No idea if it's available the whole game or just while the Vanguard quest line is incomplete. (I'm on Xbox in case that makes a difference)
Wish I had thought to level targeting on my main guy. By the time I get a lock with my class C freighter pirates are down to 5% hull and a missile is ridiculously overkill lol.
So, just tried this strategy for space combat and that was a lot of fun. However, I only got 2/3. The 3rd one, somehow I managed to disable the ship even though it still had most of it's shields and other systems. I boarded the ship and everyone on the ship was dead. So, I've got a 2nd ship already lol
I did the second ship flight a little different. I shot down two, shot the engines so they were disabled, boarded the ship and killed three guys inside. Flew their ship to talk to the pirate captain. I have two ships now, but only 2/5 ship destroyed. (And I got some loot / weapons from the guys in the ship I stole)
That's a... uhm... _interesting_ choice. Are you going after the Fleet Commander achievement or something? (Fleet Commander: Collect 10 ships) I don't know if you remember Luke Skywalker's reaction when he first saw Hans Solo's ship in the original Star Wars but that was pretty much my reaction the first time I stepped inside a level 2 Crimson Fleet Ghost. I guess you could always use it to toy around with in the Ship Builder. You do realize you'll have to shell out 4400 credits (and change) to register it before you can modify it or sell it, right?

I agree the ship is absolutely not a keeper and does not deserve the line _She may not look like much, but she's got it where it counts, kid. I've made a lot of special modifications myself_ Yeah, I've noticed that capturing ships and selling them is not a viable business model. Fleet Commander I achieved with my first character, so now I will get in Slack-line and follow the walkthrough to the T ! 🙂
HIlarious, I set my ambush just like you did. Only... Before I could blow the barrels a miner ran past straight into the big barrel and it exploded before any of the pirates came off the ship. *facepalm* The I had to gun them down afterwards since it only killed the miner... Edit: reloaded quick save and it worked fine the second time. :)
Melee is ... dull. Even when it works (it often works about as well as expected, charging a guy with a Magstorm across an open floor), there's a severe lack of attack animations or variety between weapons. You also can't mod the melee weapons, so it's all about getting decent blue+ drops, further adding to the tapioca flavouring.
I would at least get loot containers at the beginning (there are two inside the first area). I've gotten lucky a couple of times and gotten blue rarity weapons, which is nice to have from the start.
Whenever i play Starfield i use both the keybord and mouse and the xbox controller depending on what i do. To navigate into space and dogfight i allways use the controller. While fighting on foot....like with a gun, i allways go back to the keybord and mouse. I find everything easier this way.
No need to bind the cutter unless you want to use it as a weapon outside of scanning mode. When you are in scanning mode the cutter is automatically selected so you can save the bind slot.
Well I guess we should probably also mention that hotkeying the Cutter makes it accessible with a single button press. Relying on the scanner requires two button presses since the scanner typically opens with the Cutter unequipped. So you have to press Scan then Attack to equip the Cutter via Scan.
No, when you press the hotkey button, the Cutter is automatically equipped. It simply swaps in the Cutter for whatever weapon you had previously equipped. One button press and it's ready to run.
What combinations of mods have you found to be best for what weapons? So far combatech is only seconded by va'ruun in my opinion, and sometimes I wonder if my beowulf does more dps than my inflictor. I have all the dps perks in the tree. Also I wonder very much about the hard target, it seems to me that it has a special headshot modifier but I can't find information about it.
That barrel trick just didn’t work at all for me. The NPCs kept hitting them way too quick. I tried 15 times and moved the barrels around and boom, every time.
I guess I'm an idiot,no matter what I do,I cannot get target lock to come up.There isn't even anything for it showing on my hud.Tried to change hot keys to see if i could get something,but every key I chose,had a conflict.

I forgot that we had thrusters already. At any rate, that will be much better covered in a real time flight tutorial I have coming up.
