PSP was great, but damn they made some stupid decisions, like the UMD.. and proprietary memory card.. the PS2 SRPG ports could have been great but the damn blur of the sprites kind of killed the mood.. was that hard to redraw the stuff to match's screen res instead of just having a mess of pixels smooshed around on unrecognizable form?? the idea of pixel art is it can be beautiful and sharp and recognizable.. an art form! but instead of scaling them, and keep it sharp, they decided just to do a Gaussian pass on top. Most games with sprites on the PSP look awful for the same reason.
Thank you for your work! I 've spent 2 month on your channel to see most of your videos. Really cool. I'm from Belarus, Russia neighbour. It's interesting that in England were popular different games than we had. I saw your games list and thought that much of your games I hadn't hear.
Been living in Japan for nearly 17 years now. People have no idea how godly the titles for psp were here in Japan. Felt like everyday something cool came out here for it.
Jeanna D Arc was the first tactic game I enjoyed. Being a final fantasy guy I never enjoyed the tactic games. They always felt slow to me. But Jeanne handles speed and pacing perfectly. We need a part two soon. It’s been too long.
My backlog is getting even bigger because of excellent lists like this. Also, there's this psp rpg called Popolocrois which should've been on the list too Reject modern gaming, embrace retro games!
Dungeon Seige ToA also had a way to connect your save data to Dungeon Siege 2 to obtain special weapons and gear etc to use on your PSP. It was pretty cool!
My first Playstation console was a PS4 Pro back in 2019. I never had a Sony handheld until I bought myself a Vita 3 years ago, and bought my fiancé a red God of War PSP 2 Christmas’s ago. And I gotta say, I missed out
We see a video where we have a game from "The Legend of Heroes" series in the same day the remake for Trails in the Sky gets announced. TVGS, you know how to make people happy, dude.
seen a lot of those on /v/ recommended and never went to check gameplay of them until you showed up and piqued my interest. Hexyz especially looks like an JRPG i could spent hours grinding. Which is bad for me, i already have both disgaeas on standby lmao
Yeees. I was waiting to see if Brave Story made the list. I actually just remembered it being good, because I completely forgot its name. On a side note, I will always have mana khemia in my top 10 best rpgs I ever played. Never did finish all its routes, but I did get my waifus. I should probably finish mana khemia 2 whenever I find free time again.
Never got to finish Tear of Vermillion, since I was only able to borrow it from a friend. That and Mana Khemia were the only games on here I recognized though, I'll have to check some of em out later.
I had over 100 PSP games. I eventually sold it all, and I regret it for the price I sold it for. But I also hardly ever play handheld either. Great system though!
As a fan of diablo 2 and later getting into boulders gate Dark alliance one and two and the champions of Norath games on the PS2 when I got my PSP I was looking for those types of games on the go and I remember finding dungeon siege and untold legends both games were brilliant
I remember renting Dungeon Siege: Throne of Agony from GameFly several years ago. I never got far in it but I liked that you can really customize your character. I picked the mage and turned him into some sword and shield warrior guy. A couple of my friends really liked Hexyz Force as well! I dunno if it's for me but I respect it. I was always interested in Blade Dancer but I never played it myself. I watched a trailer for it and the characters drew me in. Generation of Chaos I enjoyed what I could, though I'm not very good at the game lol! I LOVED Legend of Heroes: A Tear in Vermillion! I'm not really a turn based kind of guy but the story drew me in unlike any other game I've played. I still need to finish it though I'm stuck at the boat part.
The first trilogy Legend of Heroes on psp are great. I've finished them all. The ending of the first game almost make me cried. What a story. While Blade Dancer is slow but maybe i'll give it a chance someday. Blazing Soul series is hard SRPG. Mystic Chronicles, well it's Kemco game. I was never able to beat the real final boss back then. They gonna remaster the game for mobile later.
White knight is more of Capcoms' Dogma rather than Monster Hunter, but again Dogma Is love child of Monster Hunter, Morrowind and Devil May cry compressed together so i guess You are still right.
Hexyz Force, there is annoying scale system. There are 3 endings: bad side, good side & balance. The hard part is getting balance ending, almost of your action can affect the balance of the scale. Each side have different final boss & balance ending is the hardest one. You'll really need a guide, if you want balance ending & messed up you should grind ALOT to make it balance again. That's why this game is not for everyone.
I tried SO hard to get into Hexyz Force, several times. It's fine but just doesn't hold my attention. Blade Dancer was too hard but otherwise good. Brave Story is very solid, the antagonist is awesome, unlike the protagonist.
I've played Blade Dancer a long time ago, honestly I don't remember much about it except that it wasn't rewally good. Game was fairly boring, not much optional content, or much of anything really.
Oh god. Generation of Chaos and Blazing Souls are such bad games. These two games are made by Idea Factory, they have basically broken systems that the numbers never really means what you see in the screen, dull stories and are a slog to play most of the time. They do look pretty tho, but that's all to it. Ah, and Zelos from Blazing Souls is one of those characters that wants to sound edgy and cool but your mileage may vary if it hits the mark or if he is just a jerk. Of these games, Hexyz is amazing and Brave Story New Traveler is one of those games that are very cozy to play and gives this sense of nostalgia even during the first time you play it.
What is your favourite PSP RPG?
Jeanne D'Arc hands down.
Persona 3 hands down
Valkyria Chronicles
The PSP will always be a revolution of the hand held world
One of best handhelds we’ve ever gotten!
Waaaaaaaaaaay ahead of its time.
I think Nintendo DS is real revolutionary handheld 😊
@@romanrybinskii1411I think it's Gameboy Advance.

Best time in handheld gaming imo

Do you play indies?
Brave story was so good i'd buy a remake of that in a heartbeat
Same here. Such a great adventure!
That one has my interest peaked the most after seeing this video.
Brave story was such a memorable adventure too
It caught me off-guard with how good it was.
@@thatvideogamesshow It's one of my favourite PSP games.
Jeanne D’arc was a really good tactical RPG
Not better than Mytran Wars!
@@portwain Lol - Jeanne D'Arc is a completely different, and better, class ;-)
Dungeon Seige ToA also had a way to connect your save data to Dungeon Siege 2 to obtain special weapons and gear etc to use on your PSP. It was pretty cool!
Yess! I love Mana Khemia! The soundtrack lives in my head rent free!
My first Playstation console was a PS4 Pro back in 2019. I never had a Sony handheld until I bought myself a Vita 3 years ago, and bought my fiancé a red God of War PSP 2 Christmas’s ago. And I gotta say, I missed out
Yeah you have.
Now get yourself a ps vita, jail break it, get more memory and emulate all the psp games you want.
Generation of Chaos and White Knight Chronicles looks interesting. Will have to check them out.
Dungeon Siege Throne of Agony is my jam back then, so much time I spent on that game.
Thanks! Love the list :D
The PSP will always be the best handheld ever made. So many bangers and imo revolutionized handheld gaming
Nice list
I hadn’t heard of a single one of these
Glad you found some new titles!
Nice RPG time with Mr. TVGS another great video keep them going
Thanks man!

More on the way 🙂

Great list - I would add Popolocrois as well, really worth checking out
Good choice!
Ah the White Knight Chronicle Origin, the one with Super Sentai Finisher when you transform. Good times.
Great Stuff, as always.
Thanks man!
Definitely going to have to play generation of chaos. It looks the closest to the Saturn Dragon Force games I've ever seen 👍
Hope you enjoy it!
7th Dragon 2020 l & ll
Final Fantasy Type 0
Sol Trigger
Black Rock Shooter
Last Ranker
Lord of Apocalypse
Riviera
Shining Blade
Shining Ark
Mytran Wars deserves to be mentioned in such video, a great TRPG!
I remember always wanted to get Hexyz Force and Brave Story New Traveller but i never did.

Hexyz force was the last game i completed during the PSP era. Such a fun game.
Never got to finish Tear of Vermillion, since I was only able to borrow it from a friend. That and Mana Khemia were the only games on here I recognized though, I'll have to check some of em out later.
Glad to see Mana Khemia here. The game that got me into the PSP as a teen 😩👌
I had over 100 PSP games. I eventually sold it all, and I regret it for the price I sold it for. But I also hardly ever play handheld either. Great system though!

Untold Legends is great (at least the first one)
Crimson Gem Saga, Growlanser, lots of Legend of heroes titles, Popolocrois, Z.H.P., lots of hidden gems for RPG fans!
Hexyz force is a great rpg. Played it when i had a psp
Where's the guy that post the list of the games in the comments? I need to save this list for later 😂
I remember playing Key of heaven on PSP, i enjoyed it a lot when i was young
Love that game. The focus on different martial arts was awesome.

Loved both 7th Dragon 2020 games on psp. They received fan translations
Great games!
Just got a backbone controller for my phone and it’s perfect for PSP emulation
I just want Valkyria Chronicles 3 officially available. Is it too much?
Iove the PSP RPG games
It's a good thing that I still have my psp
You again got my PS Vita attention 😅
I always think hexys force and crimson gem saga are puzzle games just by their names.
what's the OST at 11:46?
I'm quite partial to Shining Hearts myself.
White knight is more of Capcoms' Dogma rather than Monster Hunter, but again Dogma Is love child of Monster Hunter, Morrowind and Devil May cry compressed together so i guess You are still right.
dungeon siege is surprisingly good on psp
💯
brave story new traveler mentioned🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳

Why's there no chapters in your videos?
welp... generation of chaos on the deck now
Can you cover Kemco RPG games from android?
I still play with my psp
Brave Story New Traveller is my favorite original JRPG on the PSP. Port or remake? Valkyrie Profile!!
tear of vermillion

Muito bom.
Frontier Gate, Last Ranker, Sol Trigger, Wild Arms Xf, Shining Blade?
I've played Blade Dancer a long time ago, honestly I don't remember much about it except that it wasn't rewally good. Game was fairly boring, not much optional content, or much of anything really.
Hexys force is overlooked because it cost like $200 lol nobody wants to pay out the ass for a game they’ve never heard of
Peet Fenis.
