Jack’s driver replaced Stan’s character when Reg decided to leave the series, this was the beginning of the end of OTB.

Reg had to miss the second half if the series due to a warning from his doctor to rest or risk a fatal heart attack.

@@OntheBusesDatabase1 It’s also reported that Varney then semi-retired in 1981 after suffering from a heart attack. He recovered, and ended up living until age 92. The actor died in 2008 of a chest infection.
