I heavily considered naming this episode "Coola 2: Electric Boogaloo," but I didn't for two reasons. I thought maybe that joke was overplayed. Also, I remembered when I named an episode "Freeza Tennis," UA-cam slathered the video in tennis ads. I was afraid if I named this "Electric Boogaloo," I'd bring in a whole bunch of confused Breakin' fans! =P
Two fantastic quotes in this episode: 12:42 "It doesn't ruin the scene by a long shot, but it does frustratingly thwart perfection." 19:02 "The characters have been largely reduced to interchangeable action figures being lined up to punch each other." Those perfectly encapsulate two sets of thoughts that I thought I understood but couldn't exactly pinpoint in my mind. Thanks for that.
The worst part about this movie is the blatant Super Saiyan wank that goes into it. Piccolo has fused with God, hence the apparent need for Dende taking his place, but Piccolo is worthlessly weak in this movie, outclassed by basic Super Saiyans. Piccolo should have been on the frontlines of this film, and this was probably his last time to really shine.
@Sun Wu-Entai 90 Fairly certain that reason this happened is because Cooler kinda started to attack Goku. Remember Goku is the only one Cooler really gives a shit about.
I suspect it's because at that time, it wasn't quite clear how strong a post-fusion Piccolo was. As Mistare points out, this movie came out right in the middle of Piccolo's kinda-inconclusive fight with Imperfect Cell, which makes it hard to use to gauge his strength--hell, at the time they were storyboarding and animating the film, the fight might not even have started yet. And they assumed that Piccolo's fusion with Kami couldn't possibly boost him up that much.
If there's one thing I hate about Dragon Ball post-Frieza, it's how every villain just doesn't die because they have regeneration. In the case of Cell, I'm only really bothered by it during the Cell Games considering he specifically said that he had his nucleus in his head and could regenerate if it survived. But Goku blows up his head and then he fully self-destructs his body and the nucleus still survives? But as annoying as that was, it's still a far-cry better than "And then Buu survived just because." seventeen times in a row.
BlueMageDanny I presume the whole head nucleus thing only applies when he blows himself up. Otherwise, he regenerates if there’s enough of him left after outside damage.
Was literally just watching TFS's parody of this movie and thinking, "I wonder when MistareFusion will cover this". Never have I been so happy to be accidentally psychic.
"I'm a clone of frieza huh? Well has frieza ever been a clone over 10 billion times?!" - Cooler. "I'm getting a feeling you have a thing against your brother" - Krillin "Or that Frost guy" - Goku "Frost? Who is Frost? Another of my father?" - cooler "No, just another of frieza's race, but from another universe" - Goku "Another universe what did yo-wait did you name my species after FRIEZA?!" - cooler "Well yes, isn't that your race name?" - goku "Oh no no, that's true, just like you're a Vegeta's Race" - Cooler "No i'm a Saiyan" - Goku "Oho, doesn't feel nice being labelled does it?!" - Cooler "About as much as you are a copy of frieza" - Krillin "Kill the Bald one" - Cooler "Who Tien?" - Krillin.
Oh Wow, so dende was god in the anime before he was God in the manga. Well I thought I already knew most of dragon ball but somehow I missed this. I feel like I need to go back and read the manga for the 100th time.
@Solar Animations I saw Dende's succession to Godhood in the anime before I saw the dub of this film. So when I saw this video a year ago and heard Mistare state that Dende was God here before the manga and anime, I was confused at first.
It may have been a nod to his color scheme in Toriyama illustrations and colored pages. I noticed that Goku's gi also has a lighter tone throughout the same period, which also reflects the Toriyama colors more than the standard anime look.
@@spartanq7781 There was probably not much conversing between Toriyama and Toei's anime staff over what color schemes every single character should have, so there wound up being differences between his designs for special illustrations/colored chapters and the anime designs. Many other anime adaptations fall into a similar boat, although it's not often you see as many noticeable differences as in Dragon Ball.
You're part 8 of the Cell Arc is one of the few times youtube recommended something worthwhile, I have since gone back and watched you're entire DBD/DBDTV series. With the amount of work you've put in and the time you've been doing this, it's almost a crime that so few dragonball fans have yet to watch this series.
I think this also falls into that realm of....the filmmakers trying to 'make something set into the future of the anime'.....like with 2-4 where they assumed 'everyone will get back to earth without anything too crazy happening'....I think this was being made under an assumption of "this androids and Cell stuff will get sorted out before too long without anything too crazy happening" And so while movie 2-4 could put the characters back on Earth, and have the characters that were dead be alive, they could NOT predict how long they would be on Namek, Goku going full on SS, and then him staying off Earth for a period of time. With this movie...they could say 'look, Goku and Vegeta are both SS, and we have been TOLD that Dende will take over as Guardian...so it is set just some point after this Androids and Cell stuff'....they could NOT predict how prolonged the Cell Arc would be, that Gohan would get another age-up with the Hyperbolic Time Chamber...and that Gohan would reach SS and that levels beyond SS would happen. Just another example of the filmmakers probably TRYING to talk to Toriyama about things that would happen, trying to incorporate that into their film with the hopes that their movie could take place "soon after the current manga arc resolves" only for Toriyama to have the arc drag on and introduce even more concepts that make the movie impossible to fit.
I would like to make a request: A double-dissection of "The Plan to Eradicate the (Super) Saiyans". The original animation was a movie that was bundled with a Famicom Dragonball game, and a remake was created for a PS3 era Dragonball game. That should be a pretty interesting comparison, considering the huge gulf in technology and methodology that went into them.
The reason why I like this movie as of the best of the movies I've seen is that it feels so much like the show at the time. And the Goku and Vegeta battling Cooler (Coola) is a great section. It's also pretty fast-paced, like the first couple of movies.
To be honest and not to be an over sharer but I feel like it needs to be said. I discovered DBD in September and it has been such an uplifting outlet when I’m anxious or depressed. All I need to do is go home and throw on some DBD. Currently on my third go of watching every episode
@@MozillaVulpix I was really just joking, it was just funny for me to watch the videos and notice afterwards that you've already commented. Sorry if the comment was rude
I prefer this movie over the first Cooler-movie. Mostly because the formula got so stale and boring for me with that first part. The dozens of coolers felt at least somewhat fresh. Also I laughed at Vegetas debut of talking big and immediately got punched in the face.
I prefer this movie because Goku is not the one and only guy who defeats the final villain, for once ! I mean, we do see him give Coola the final blow but we've also seen Vegeta saving Goku twice in this movie : at his "debut" and for the climax too ! Hell, he's even using a freaking kienzan against the giant original Coola's shape to help Goku just right before it allowed him to give his final blow to the main villain...but just like he said in the end, and it's the only time it does in a movie, without Vegeta, he would have died, because Metal Coola would have killed him and all his friends would have died too, probably killed by the robot clones army, as a matter of fact...so henceforth, Vegeta kinda' saved freakin' everybody in this god damn of a movie (sort of) !
@@ViltrumiteIsRite99 Same, when I heard that line, I thought it was just TFS Goku talking nonsense as usual, but reading has me like:"OH NOW I GET IT!!!"
@@spartanq7781 Syndrome, the villain from "The Incredibles". One of his most memorable lines is something like "and when everyone gets to be a superhero, no one really will be" Edit: ua-cam.com/video/fmSO2cz2ozQ/v-deo.html
This is why I'm sub to a channel like *Mistare Fusion,* I would never known that Dende was God in the Anime _Before_ the Manga ever did it. That's a _Now You Know_ moment. Metal Cooler has to be one of my favorite designs of Dragon Ball.
Fun fact: Dragon Ball GT would later on recycle the “teleportation into another dimension” aspect later too. The only major difference being that it is implied that only Kibito Kai’s “Kaikai” and not the Instantaneous Movement will take you there. And also the dimension itself is COMPLETELY different.
14:09 just hit them REALLY hard. Is it weird I was thinking of Team Four Star the entire time of this video? Speaks volumes this movie was so boring that a fan parody is infinitely more entertaining. But I do like the animation of meta cooler, probably the movies only good point.
Didgeridude Immortal (check out his channel) posted a clip from this movie a couple days ago, and I commented basically the same thing; I can’t watch this movie now without thinking about TFS, and i couldn’t articulate why, but you’re right, it’s cause it’s so bland on its own, and parody is so much more memorable.
“Hitting them really really hard” actually undersells it and makes it seem somehow smarter than it is. piccolo isn’t even saying to hit them harder than usual; just to hit them with ki, something they do everyday, by default, in fights all the time- The idea that they randomly decided to stop doing it on that specific day/time and event is worst but funnier tbh For once, TFS was giving the source too MUCH credit and respect 😂😂😂
I always thought that the Japanese title spoiled the surprise of more Coolers. Meanwhile Return of Cooler is just very plain. Watching DBZ from an outside perspective is intriguing or observing the fan base in general. Personally, I'm curious in what made Broly popular in the 1st place in the U.S. fanbase. I don't think there's any real proof of him being considered "the strongest" or "best" villain even by mundane standards. I just don't understand how he got this reputation to be treated as a fan favorite. I can see visual appeal but not so much for his actual character. It's gonna be awhile before you tackle that film & the new one but I'll patiently wait.
I think what distinguishes Broly as a movie villain is that he's not only a Saiyan, but a Super Saiyan. The Legendary Super Saiyan, at that. It brings about an interesting idea: that the legend can be interpreted two ways. Goku ascended to become a Super Saiyan through his own efforts. Broly was the destined Super Saiyan-a living legend and the pinnacle of what it means to be a prodigy. Those concepts are interesting to think about. I think the fact that Z was the first DB material to be dubbed and become popular in America/Canada is also important to consider. Not relative to Ball, but relative to Z itself. I don't know if there's a name for it, but people usually find the middle of a series to be the most interesting enjoyment-wise because of various concepts being introduced and coming into play. Beginnings and endings are usually more narrative-weighted, or are at least seen that way generally. I think that's part of the reason why the Saiyan Arc is so overlooked: it's the start of Z, and people starting the DB series at Z aren't so invested in the universe yet. When all the Saiyan lore is introduced by the middle of the series and the series is grounded (again, from the western perspective), the story is at its peak. That means Raditz, Nappa, and Vegeta aren't too appreciated as villains, while a Saiyan like Broly is. He's up-to-date with the protagonists' accomplishments when he appears, and more. Finally, what needs to be remembered is that it's not only the English fans that love the energetic, testosterone-inducing fighting. That appeals to males universally, which is why Broly's been a fan favourite in Japan (the world, I expect) for a full decade before his movies were dubbed in English. The action in the movie was unlike any other expect Movie 7 (Super Android 13), and no one genuinely cares about that villain expect for how hard he punched Goku that one time. It was a whole new level of curbstomping with five superpowers we've grown to love by this point trying to take down this behemoth, and continuously failing and trying again until they succeeded. Despite how it turned out narratively, it's hard to deny the appeal of it as a big action setpiece. This was a chaotic blurb but I hope it makes sense.
When they build something and delivered it properly it tends to be accepted but when not all elements are well done it also tends to bring backfire and so divide the audience.
Considering what the hype centered around in the 90s, Broly essentially as their fanfic on the big screen. A buff, evil Super Saiyan stronger than Goku with a new color and new transformation that is better and beats up everyone for most of the movie, he had a sad childhood, he's huge now and screams a lot like how everyone else does, but he's much stronger. He is called legendary to make him sound cool and he survived and conveniently escaped planet Vegeta just before it blew up.
It's not just the states. There is a reason he's being rebooted in the new movie. He's super popular in Japan too. I know Japanese fans that dont remember Slug, Cooler, Bojack, ext. Yet you mention Broly and they get excited and find him cool.
Man this is literally everything that encapsulates this movie and while I like the fighting because there are some cool fight sequences even if some look awful, but there is absolutely no way you can show this to a newcomer or non fan and expect them to enjoy it; so yes this definitely in my top 5 least favorite features for sure
2:49 This comes from the fact that the nerds only know the out-of-order release dates of the movies in the US and don't pay attention to when these things originally came out in Japan. Here in the US, this movie came out in 2002, long after Majin Buu had been introduced in the DBZ episodes airing on Toonami. When I actually looked up the release date of this movie and correlated it with the airdates of the TV series and the release of the Manga, I was shocked. And this explains why Gohan still has long hair and wasn't a Super Saiyan yet.
I mean, Coola is not a bad addition on paper. It's interesting to see another on of the Frieza's species, if only to get to learn more about them, and how even amongst "the bad guys" there can be some divide and differing views. It's just that, Coola's 15 minutes of fame have long since passed and the franchise doesn't seem interested in doing anything with him. Hell, we never even saw him properly interact with Frieza, which could've potentially been the best and most interesting part of giving Frieza a brother in the first place.
Yea I'm part of the new group. You popped up on my recommended one day, and watched a bit of your stuff. I enjoy your attention to funny contradictions in the stories.
You keep talking about how there's no way to make these movies work in the context of the main series, but I'M ABOUT TO BLOW YOUR MIIIIND!!! The DBZ movies from the start up to and including the first appearance of Broly are clearly all fever dreams that Goku is having while suffering from the heart virus. EZ. It explains all the problems like where they fit into the timeline, the fact that characters have various appearances not consistent with the powers and abilities of where they should be in the timeline, the fact that the movie plots are always rehashes of characters or story elements found in the main series... It all makes sense! Also this movie specifically was the reason why Goku immediately went to grab Dende as soon as he realized Earth needed a new god: He had a dream about Dende being god, and decided that would just work. LOL what a dumb and probably actually genius theory.
This was the first time I was able to watch anything from the anime, as this came out on Toonami the first weekend my family had access to Cartoon Network. I was aware of the series due to a couple of friends giving poor descriptions of it, and one of them getting the first Budokai game. This movie blew my mind. I was 9 mind you, and the only Japanese animated shows I had seen up to this point, were Pokemon and Digimon. Both not exactly shows known for frenetic movement and animation quality. The fight between Goku, Vegeta and Meta Coola was unlike anything I'd ever seen, bar none. Regardless of this movie's quality, I can't say for certain if I'd be the Dragon Ball fan I am today, if I had not seen this when I did.
Hey! Ki blast spam actually worked in this movie! So thats already a 10/10 out of ten for me. Sure it only mattered for 1 clone out of 10,000,000 but yeaaaah!
Man, Cooler is my favorite villain design wise (particularly his final form) and while his first introduction I enjoy more (dude, that english dub has drowning pool for so much of its soundtrack...damn what a guilty pleasure) this movie holds a very special place in my heart. I remember as a kid seeing this on tv and just being pumped pretty much through my entire childhood- the music, the pacing, the tension. I sort of would have liked to see Goku and Vegeta getting demolished by a thousand meta coolers but there is merit to it ending there with them powering up and cutting to the end. Thanks for that enlightening little tidbit about Dende; thats pretty neat that he was the god of earth long before he was even in the manga.
When you uttered the phrase, “Toei Animation knowingly revealed a massive spoiler.” It occurred to me that something like that happened in 1979 with another Toei title called Galaxy Express Three Nine (which I will occasionally refer to as 999 “three-nine”). Leiji Matsumoto’s popular 999 manga debuted alongside his other work Space Pirate Captain Harlock which received an anime adaptation first. Around episode 16 of Harlock’s TV series, Toei decided to make a 999 anime due to Harlock’s massive popularity . One week before the first episode of 999 aired, Toei decided they were going to make a theatrical release for 999 and told Leiji Matsumoto that the story must be self contained. So, Matsumoto let Toei spoil the ending to his 999 manga that ran for 3 more years after the film debuted. It also aired around the TV series’s 42nd episode. Same thing with One Piece, when Toei wants to write a filler arc, they have to get Eiichiro Oda’s input first because he says it’s possible they might ruin an idea that he might want to put in the manga itself. So, yes, I can completely see Toei trying to converse with manga authors for info about the future of their series.
Oof but.. honestly, it was like.. the 70s right, and the show ran for 3 years so its likely people forgot the ending by the time the tv series actually got to it
Ironically this movie was pretty good. Granted it had flaws but coora (as japan calls him) could of beaten them all pretty easily; if he didn't have that raging moment at the end and maybe even got his body back. One thing I always noticed is, in DBZ Ultimate Tenkaichi and never after, you fought a giant Coora; the same one that raged at the end. Why we have never seen more of giant wired coora is a mystery as he looks pretty terrifying and just imagine if he did get his body; he'd be the size of an oozaru. Although the cloning thing did feel like it came out of nowhere; now we never know how frieza's race (calling it changlings) reproduce, but wouldn't it be amazing if the race could reproduce by cloning instead of having generic Mcguffin come out to power him up? Just feels like they have to and did copy frieza for a movie.
It's Coola in Japan. It's just the way they pronounce it that makes it sound like "Coora," due to the nature of how 'L' and 'R' sounds work in their language. Technically, "Coora" isn't a wrong transliteration of what they say, but because the name is pun on the word "Cooler," it's very clearly intended to be "Coola."
I didn't knew about this Dende stuff. But I was always wondering why he had different clothing than in the series. Aside this there is only one other occurance where he wears "Kami uniform" - in the early Buu arc. Good trivia.
You know, because I watched the movies after I'd finished most of the series, I never noticed how fucking random Dende being God was in this. Thanks for pointing that out lmao Also, if Oolong were a woman it would go a ways to explaining why he was so into wearing women's underwear. EDIT: Wow this film really was just the Cell Tournament in condensed form XD
Keep in mind, I've seen all the DBZ movies around the second half of the Buu arc was airing in France. After the Gogeta movie and Tapion movie which were the first ones I saw. In fact, before those I didn't even know there were DBZ movies at all. Metal Coola was one of my favorites. I loved the designs of both the army of metal coolas looking like something out of Terminator 2 and the "real" core coola being a nightmarish mess of wires and electronic stuff put together seemingly at random to form an image that sorta looked like the original guy. I think you nailed why I love this movie too. I was a teenager and already had been a Dragon Ball fan all my life and while I adore the characters and their relationships,, most of my enjoyment came from the fighting. Especially in DBZ. Started with that first Tenkaichi Budokai with Goku VS Jackie Chun but, while DB had it's humour and a lot of adventure, it was still the fighting and stuff that I appreciated the most. And that fight with the one metal coola was just SO cool... that is, if you know who Goku and Vegeta are.
one other thing I didn't mention about music is that this was the first use of Funimation's Dragon Ball Z movie theme, the one that's on all of Funimation's currently available home video releases of Dragon Ball Z and was put on the remastered re-releases of older movies in case commenters want to reply and don't realize that.
If your third hypothesis is true, that would mean that Toriyama had already planned to make Dende the new God. And I refuse to believe that Toriyama did ever plan anything in advance, ha ha I'm pretty shure he came up with the idea of Dende beeing the new god the same day he had to draw that chapter: "So, I'm gonna make Mr. Popo the new God of earth...oh, wait. That little namekian kid's still alive. Lets make him the new god".
Hey Fusion, I hope you will wait until the DBS movie comes out to review the Broly film. I think it would be interesting to review it with the new one's flaws and the old one good things. Great video!
So what was the whole 10,000,000,000 powerful warrior's suppose to mean, it seems that title has nothing to do with the movie. If it's supposed to about the cooler clones why throw in a random number like 10,000,000,000 since their is no way that many exist in this movie?
How did I miss the Dende thing for all these years!!!!!!! I just always in my head rewrote the history, usually by forgetting Dende was in this movie at all, or by when watching somehow fudging the dates as thinking the manga was way ahead of where it was at the point this actually came out. So weird. My assumption is definitely 3, but it could definite 1 or 2. One day I would hope we find out.
This movie was probably supposed to be after the cell arc before it was the cell arc, which would explain why they have Dende as god (and super saiyan Vegeta - would that reveal have happened in time for the animation staff to put the movie together?). Then the delays of rewriting around cell, and possibly around 16-18 before him, slowed the manga to the point that Dende was a massive spoiler, and also meant that at the time the movie was supposed to fit in, Gohan had been through a second redesign and gained a major new form, and Goku was dead. Maybe this is from that middle timeline where Trunks went back in time, successfully stopped Gero's plan, and then got killed by Cell when he went home?
Oh shit! You said "Bechdel Test" in reference to a series created for boys, good thing most won't know what means... at least you didn't say "toxic masculinity" you'd never hear the end of that!
Haha, as soon as I wrote that in the script (which was an addition I made late last night), I said aloud, "I just said 'Bechdel Test' in a Dragon Ball video. I am so screwed!" I also thought of you, so I'm glad we're on the same page. But I'm a huge fan of Alison Bechdel. I own Fun Home the book and have read it multiple times, and its adaptation is possibly my favorite musical. I was overjoyed to get to watch it last November when it came to my neck of the woods.
Zeon's Sh**ty Vlog Channel I know what it is, and I think it’s ridiculous if used as a standard to judge another’s work. A writer should put whatever they want into their work, and never take into account what other may think. To do so, limits creativity. If you’re writing a story of any kind, and you start to consider what others may think, stop writing.
@samuraigundam0079 I disagree with your assertion, mate. What might seem obvious to a writer may not make sense to a reader, or may suggest something entirely different - that's what editors are for! Thinking about what your subconscious biases may have suggested to readers with different backgrounds from you is merely an extension of this.
EyeLoch But you can never and will never please everyone. Coming up with a story, while simultaneously thinking about pleasing a certain group, and about what others may think, stifles the imagination. If I’m writing a story, either a book or for TV or film, I shouldn’t have to asses my work to make sure I fit in X amount of men, or women, or to force every ethnicity into it, under the assumption that someone needs to see their ethnicity in a given work in order to relate to the characters and various goings on within. They really don’t, I believe. I shouldn’t have to feel the need to bind myself to others perspectives. Now, I’m not saying that having those things are bad, or that it’s okay to purposely offend someone or group or ethnicity in any way, I’m just saying that a writer shouldn’t have to limit themselves creatively to fit other people’s standards and the need to please everyone.
5:12, I'd buy 3 as well. But I'd say #4: Unintentional collusion. Following histories of Vegeta having red hair, Toei probably wanted to be with Toriyama in the writer's room. He was probably sharing his pitch ideas with the crew as a means of involving them. And sharing ideas without certainty of when/whether they'll happen is, well, not that surprising for Toriyama. Thus, Toei might've implemented one of his ideas without realizing that Toriyama would reveal it later or considered it something to reveal.
@@MistareFusion Dende being Kami in this movie before the manga, I always just assumed it had already happened in the manga and Toei just threw it in the movie even if it didn't make sense. It's insane to think Toei spoiled something to the manga readers hahaha.
I’d love to hear your take on the new Broly movie that’s coming. They just dropped a new trailer and it looks like they will try to fit Gine and the Dragonball Minus story in there. Check out the second trailer to see what I mean.
17:58 I think the powers at be knew about Cell. I think Cooler being able to regenerate is a reference to Cell being able to regenerate. I know Piccolo can do it too but the timing of it feels like a precursor to Cell.
I rarely prefer Funimation changes over the original script, but I vastly prefer Goku's "Well, it was nice knowing you, Vegeta," over "Man we just barely beat them!"
There's not much to say about the dub this time. The dub actors play their characters as they usually do. Andrew Chandler does his normal Cooler voice for the metal Cooler, but then switches to the transformed Cooler voice when playing the Cooler at the core of the Big Gete Star. The "Big Green" dub says "great gelester(?)" and the Speedy dub says "big Guh-testah(?)." The dub music is not licensed tracks but an entirely original soundtrack this time. It's pumping music that reinforces the action, but other than that, not much to say. This was also the first Dragon Ball anything that I got on dual language DVD and my first time with Dragon Ball in Japanese with subtitles. It was my first exposure to seeing Dende being called "the new Kami over Earth" and Popo calls him "Kami-Sama." Just imagine a dub fan who had been used to Kami being someone's name and the position being called Guardian of Earth. It was the first time I learned that there were Japanese honorifics other than "-san." From watching Dragon Ball with subtitles, I learned that "-sama" ("Kami-sama") is for high respect, "-kun" is for your best friend (Goten: "Trunks-kun...") and that "-chan" is what parents call their children to be cute (Chi-chi: "Gohan-chan"). I also found out that energy and "power-levels" were called "Ki." I had seen references to "Ki" in the video games, but hear I not only learned that it's what they call energy, but that it's "kee" and not "kye."
Vegeta not commenting on Cooler being Freeza’s brother or vice versa was a big disappointment. It’s clear the makers of these films didn’t really care about continuity and wanted anyone watching it in the theater to just jump in, and be able to follow everything. Hence why these films always included the great hits or whatever was going on in the series at this time. Which always made it pointless to try to fit them into the main story afterwards. That little comment Toriyama made that he considers the films to be in a different dimension then the comic series always made the most sense to me too and how I see these films.
The Dende being a God was something that bothered me when the movie was released. I put it in the back of my mind when I thought that the movies make no sense anyways like What happened to Android 17 and 18 in DBZ Movie 7. Guess they became members of a skater gang and lived peacefully attending events and such instead of going after Goku. And like with the Cell Arc with Cell being able to be born in 20+ years despite Gero being death, where does Gero's computer generate money and pay off the electric bill? For some reason, Piccolo since movie 6 starts wearing the red belt thingy instead of the blue one he uses in the main series. I think GT just used Cooler as a reference in a way people wear DBZ or Super Saiyan worded T-shirts for some reason.
"And like with the Cell Arc with Cell being able to be born in 20+ years despite Gero being death, where does Gero's computer generate money and pay off the electric bill?" I mean 17 & 18 somehow have an infinite energy supply while being stronger than SS. Gero building a generator doesn't seem like much of a problem. Heck I kinda doubt the middle of nowhere mountain range is covered anyway :p

Two fantastic quotes in this episode:

Otherwise, he regenerates if there’s enough of him left after outside damage.
he can move his nucleus
Was literally just watching TFS's parody of this movie and thinking, "I wonder when MistareFusion will cover this". Never have I been so happy to be accidentally psychic.
Gotta love glitch in the matrix scenarios

Oh Wow, so dende was god in the anime before he was God in the manga. Well I thought I already knew most of dragon ball but somehow I missed this. I feel like I need to go back and read the manga for the 100th time.
In the movie*. Before it happened in the manga and way before the anime.
Yeah, I'm just noticing that myself
@Solar Animations
I saw Dende's succession to Godhood in the anime before I saw the dub of this film.
So when I saw this video a year ago and heard Mistare state that Dende was God here before the manga and anime, I was confused at first.
Ah, the start of the red belt Piccolo saga.
I never noticed that.
It may have been a nod to his color scheme in Toriyama illustrations and colored pages. I noticed that Goku's gi also has a lighter tone throughout the same period, which also reflects the Toriyama colors more than the standard anime look.
@@Sawngawkuh Why are they different in the first place?
Hey stop reading my mind. That's the same way I was introduced to this series.
"I've got n-word privilege." Yup, I just subscribed lmao.
I think this also falls into that realm of....the filmmakers trying to 'make something set into the future of the anime'.....like with 2-4 where they assumed 'everyone will get back to earth without anything too crazy happening'....I think this was being made under an assumption of "this androids and Cell stuff will get sorted out before too long without anything too crazy happening"
And so while movie 2-4 could put the characters back on Earth, and have the characters that were dead be alive, they could NOT predict how long they would be on Namek, Goku going full on SS, and then him staying off Earth for a period of time.

I prefer this movie over the first Cooler-movie. Mostly because the formula got so stale and boring for me with that first part. The dozens of coolers felt at least somewhat fresh. Also I laughed at Vegetas debut of talking big and immediately got punched in the face.
My only gripe is that we never actually see Goku & Vegeta fight all the coolers.
Meh. Piccolo did it before with Slug, except big green isn't insufferable like little napoleon and his endless cringy pride speeches.
Cooler: You wanna know what death tastes like!!
vegetas only in movies 6-9 and 12-15...why is he not in 10?...never liked that
5:20 - the weirdest thing about this would be not Toei revealing a major spoiler, but Toriyama actually planning that far ahead.
@olserknam
That would be weird how rarely he did that according to what I've heard.

Honestly DBD is just a masterpiece of a series. Your videos are always so good, consistent and fun. Seriously 10/10 you're the hero guy
“Hitting them really really hard” actually undersells it and makes it seem somehow smarter than it is.
piccolo isn’t even saying to hit them harder than usual; just to hit them with ki, something they do everyday, by default, in fights all the time-
The idea that they randomly decided to stop doing it on that specific day/time and event is worst but funnier tbh

The legendary super saiyajin was supposed to be something that people would remember and embrace it. And the movie succeeded to make it remarkable.
Always a good when a new video of yours pops up

"There's that one guy..." LMAO that part made me laugh
Yes you are the hero Lance. You're OUR hero.

There still largely forgettable.
@MrSecretSentai Yeah, that's unfortunately true. Just look at Dr. Wheelo. He's a great example. He wasn't shown in almost if not any DB video game
Mind. Blown.
1:35 Both figuratively... and oh-so-very literally.

Oof but.. honestly, it was like.. the 70s right, and the show ran for 3 years so its likely people forgot the ending by the time the tv series actually got to it
People were complaining about the music choice for the cell arc openings? Really?! I guess Day of Fate wasn't iconic enough.
This was painful to read.

That's a whole lot of Coola Juniors!
1992: Clash!! 10,000,000,000 Powerful Warriors! - Oh btw Dende's god now! Spoliers!
Now that Golden Metal Cooler is a thing thanks to Heroes, Golden Metal Cooler army is plausible.
Mannnnn can't wait for broccoli's movie video
So what was the whole 10,000,000,000 powerful warrior's suppose to mean, it seems that title has nothing to do with the movie. If it's supposed to about the cooler clones why throw in a random number like 10,000,000,000 since their is no way that many exist in this movie?
As random a title as it gets.
he brought this up during the last movie review. they come up with the title first then make the movie.
Sounds like a very dumb strategy, I guess that does explain why these movies have such bizarre titles.
Maybe its the Power Level of all Coolers combined
How did I miss the Dende thing for all these years!!!!!!! I just always in my head rewrote the history, usually by forgetting Dende was in this movie at all, or by when watching somehow fudging the dates as thinking the manga was way ahead of where it was at the point this actually came out. So weird. My assumption is definitely 3, but it could definite 1 or 2. One day I would hope we find out.
Your gag about "N Word privilege" had me rolling, I don't think I've laughed that hard at a video in months!
"the holy Kami is he doing here" XD
Back here after Lani, Kaiser and Taka covered it on the Creator Commentary series! The Kami Dende stuff is intriguing :P
17:59 they probably heard of Cell. That's why they played up Cooler being able to regenerate like Cell
This so far is my favorite dbz movie... lets hope the new broly movie doesnt disappoint

Lol when the captions call it the big daddy star
4:01 October 6th? Dang it, that was so close to my birthday, I was Born October 3rd 1992.
DID I JUST LEARN A NEW INTERSTING FACT ABOUT DRAGON BALL AFTER BEING A FAN FOR 15 YEARS? I applaud your work Mr. MistareFusion
Ooh, what fact was it?
@@MistareFusion Dende being Kami in this movie before the manga, I always just assumed it had already happened in the manga and Toei just threw it in the movie even if it didn't make sense. It's insane to think Toei spoiled something to the manga readers hahaha.
I’d love to hear your take on the new Broly movie that’s coming. They just dropped a new trailer and it looks like they will try to fit Gine and the Dragonball Minus story in there.
Check out the second trailer to see what I mean.
Toriyama planning Dende in advance makes sense considering how he probably wasn’t going to let Dragon Ball not have, well, Dragon Balls.
17:58 I think the powers at be knew about Cell. I think Cooler being able to regenerate is a reference to Cell being able to regenerate. I know Piccolo can do it too but the timing of it feels like a precursor to Cell.
yiss da return of da space warriorz
I still have the VHS tapes of the dub of the Cooler movies. Also "he's just God now, shut up!" is hilarious.
Geekdom brought me here, subscribed! Nice work you do here friend!
Thank you! Glad to have you here.
Getting those views from DBZA finishing up the Cell arch finally. That's how I discovered you
Best DBtuber in tha biz!! Love ur stuff Lance!
As always fantastic video keep up the good work bro 👍
What a coincidence watching this today. HAPPY BIRTHDAY to you!! 🥳🧁
Thank you!
Was feeling down this morning and the second I saw this notification I instantly had a smile on my face lol
The Big Gete Star enabled me to cheat death, how could this be?
Vegeta not commenting on Cooler being Freeza’s brother or vice versa was a big disappointment. It’s clear the makers of these films didn’t really care about continuity and wanted anyone watching it in the theater to just jump in, and be able to follow everything. Hence why these films always included the great hits or whatever was going on in the series at this time. Which always made it pointless to try to fit them into the main story afterwards. That little comment Toriyama made that he considers the films to be in a different dimension then the comic series always made the most sense to me too and how I see these films.
At first I thought the thumbnail said Cash! And thought there was some sort of Mistare Fusion sweepstakes involving 10,000,000 powerful warriors LOL!
Aye you managed to get it done! Love myself some Dissection on my Mondays.
"And like with the Cell Arc with Cell being able to be born in 20+ years despite Gero being death, where does Gero's computer generate money and pay off the electric bill?"
I mean 17 & 18 somehow have an infinite energy supply while being stronger than SS. Gero building a generator doesn't seem like much of a problem.
Heck I kinda doubt the middle of nowhere mountain range is covered anyway :p
Gero is off the grid and uses renewable energy. He programmed his environmentalism into 16.
Yasssssss!!!!
You took my comment!!!
Grrr u tow 😬
Queen slayyyy
Not even 5 minutes in and my mind has been blown. Goddamn you rock.
I know this movie under the title dragonball z: revenge for freezer (translated from german)
