  • The Doctor's home planet, Gallifrey, was destroyed in the Last Great Time War.
All that remains of the mighty and noble race of the Timelords are the memories of the sole survivor: The Doctor. Once in a while he thinks back to his childhood and home. Running through the pastures of deep red grass with his friends, calling up to the sky; Consulting the hermit who lived up on one of the towering mountains: Mount Perdition, Mount Cadon and the twin mountains of Solace and Solitude; or day-dreaming whilst in lessons at the Prydonian Acadamy. Despite the strict hierarchy and rules of the Timelords which The Doctor ran away from, he misses the kinship of fellow Timelords. Beyond the glass-domed Citadel and the estates of the nobility lay the wastelands where tribal nomadic Gallifreyans wandered. When The Doctor closes his eyes he can still hear the choral melodies drifting through the air from the solitary grand cathedrals.

I hope you enjoyed my interpretation of 'This is Gallifrey: Our Childhood, Our Home'. There is something magical and mythological about the planet Gallifrey and the Timelords that I have always loved. This soft piano with subtle choir attempts to emulate memories of a happier time and evoke nostalgia.

For clarification: This channel follows the 2005-2010 continuity in which Gallifrey was destroyed. For 9 years Gallifrey was destroyed in canon and the stories in this time reflect this. Personally, I felt that the revival of Gallifrey contradicted the entirety of the RTD era with the representation of the Time War and Timelords to not be fitting to the more mystical and mythological picture that the show was going for when it returned.

But then they went to war. An endless war. And it changed them. Right to the core. You’ve seen my enemies. The Time Lords are more dangerous than any of them.

"There are worlds out there where the sky is burning, and the sea's asleep, and the rivers dream; people made of smoke and cities made of song. Somewhere there's danger, somewhere there's injustice, and somewhere else the tea's getting cold.

It’s taken me 6 months to realise that the title is:
    THIS *WAS* GALIFREY
    Well that’s depressing

    Gallifrey, the golden world
Under the honey firmament a paradise unfurled
As morn came the skies turned to an orange hue
Casting its light across the silver trees, glittering with the morning dew
To the feet of the capitol lay grass of deepest red
If you listened carefully, you could hear the mountains sing, it was said
Gallifrey, around the twin suns it did gently turn
It took a just a single day for it all to burn

if you wrote that, that's a very good poetic version of Ten's dialogue

This is truly beautiful. The images of Gallifrey’s former glory combined with the sorrowful piano make for a real tear-jerker. I wish this song was available to download or listen to on SoundCloud or something so I can listen offline.

This is a perfect cover, I wish I could hear it in Hollow Knight. I feel it would be right at home there... wait... a doctor who game like Hollow Knight where you explore the ruins of Gallifrey. I don't care if it's not cannon I would play the hell outta that.

I think it’s a shame they brought back Gallifrey.
I mean, I wouldn’t mind quite so much if they’d just brought back the planet and the Time Lords were gone, but still… the fact that he’s the last of the Time Lords works so well
