  • How Sullivan-Wang Secret Backchannel Helps thaw US-China Tensions | Vantage with Palki Sharma
The US national Security Advisor, Jake Sullivan, is in Beijing. He will have multiple meetings with China's Foreign Minister, Wang Yi. This is the fourth time Sullivan and Wang are meeting for talks. They have set up a secret backchannel that allows the US and China to share concerns and defuse the tensions between the countries that keep threatening to erupt.

Some of what you said may be true although it is difficult to see where the Russians or Iranians could be feared by the Americans when neither are able to defend their own territory from foreign incursions. The communist Chinese on the other hand have their borders sealed tight against any foreign enemy and will soon be ready to launch the CPC's long planned wars around the globe as American power fades. China has been involved in the most rapid and massive military buildup in human history with heavy emphasis on offensive war fighting capability on a global scale (even though they claim defense only). One need only to look at Xi's repeated commands to the PLA, to be ready to win wars in any ocean or on any continent as they pursue the most powerful military in the world by 2049.

@@YouCantHandleTheTruth. where are the communist Chinese "tough"? Even though the communist Chinese are involved in more border disputes than any other nation on Earth, few of China's neighbors genuinely fear them. Especially when the last time the communist Chinese launched a war to invade another country ended in disaster for China in 1979. China is involved in the most rapid and massive military buildup in human history, but they are unlikely to be feared until they actually decide to use it and prove that it is genuine. Otherwise even the Americans will continue to sail their navy through the Taiwan Strait and SCS uninvited and without fear of any countermeasure.

As a chinese, I must say:
China's military and economy are still far behind, ranking only sixth in the world. India and South Korea far surpass China in terms of culture, economy, and military strength, even surpassing the United States. Western countries should stop focusing solely on China and instead turn their attention to India and South Korea, which pose a greater threat to Europe and the United States. These two countries are enormous powers in Asia and the world, developing at a pace that makes China fearful. I believe the US also fears these two countries and only dares to challenge the weaker China。
India is No. 1. China is a developing country, but india is developed. I always believe Indian are the most intelligent people.

A more general answer to all those questioning India's stance on China-Taiwan/One-China policy:
Honestly speaking, as long as China continues to claim Arunachal Pradesh and other Indian border territories as its own (despite the historical fact that Tibet was never a part of China, and India shared its borders with an independent Tibet), China has no legitimate basis to claim Indian land. The 1962 war and the recent Galwan clashes are examples of China's aggressive stance, not to mention its support for Pakistan over the Kashmir issue. Despite the fact that the Maharaja of Kashmir signed the Instrument of Accession to join India, China continues to build the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) through Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK). China’s actions have significantly affected its image in India. If China had respected its historical and cultural ties with India, India might not have questioned the One China policy. However, given China's expansionist behavior in the South China Sea and towards its border countries, India is simply keeping its options open. Sadly, China seems to have evolved into a dragon-or perhaps a monster-seeking to expand its territory aggressively at every opportunity.
P.S. The irony with Taiwan is that it is not recognized as a sovereign nation by the United Nations, yet it claims parts of Arunachal Pradesh. How does one even begin to deal with such nonsense?

Any substantial "thaw" in tensions between the communist Chinese and their American enemies seems unlikely when considering the ongoing reality that the Americans refuse to recognize or abide by the red lines that the CCP have tried to impose on the rest of the world considering the status of Taiwan or China's baseless claims over the 9-dash line ocean border (and islands within) in the SCS. There is also the American's desperation to hold on to their hegemony making military conflict with communist China also inevitable given the CCP's ambitions to pursue global socialist revolution and domination.
