- Volkswagen to Shut German Plants for the 1st Time in its 87-year History | Vantage with Palki Sharma
Volkswagen, the German automobile manufacturer, has said that it wants to shut down automobile factories inside Germany. This would be a first for the company. It has never shut down a German plant before. Volkswagen hasn't shut down any plant since 1988. But in the face of the Electric Vehicle Age and the rise of Chinese EV companies, Volkswagen is struggling to remain afloat. Will these plant closures be the first of many to come?

For half a century the best cars in the world were made in Germany. End of an Era. BMW & Benz next in line.
They already moved to USA
The reliability of German vehicles is not that great. The price of replacement parts is ridiculous. For example Volkswagon's direct injection engines all carbon up, Toyota solved that issue years ago with an engine design which combines both direct injection and port injection systems (first found in certain Lexus engines, now has made its way down to Toyota brand engines) Ask any mechanic if you want reliability they will tell you to buy Toyota, Lexus or Honda. Only recently 2018 and up has BMW become more reliable. Before that broken timing chain assemblies, blown turbochargers, engine mounts that failed.Lots of plastic parts in BMW engines that break easily and are very expensive to replace.
Does it surprise you? No - not at all! When the “bean counters” get involved - as they have in VW - they will stuff any good business! Merc is the next to go………

It already lost when it started importing 3rd world. Import the 3rd world become the 3rd world
Closing on their Core strength- Best in class Diesel engines is hurting VW hard.
Not to worry, Von Der Layin is gonna save the day! She already solved VW as we can see 😅
The German cars are the best ,but they out of reach for the middle class worker
I am waiting for the Indian EV called “PALKI”
😂😂😂😂
😂😂❤
we have EVs named Tata curvv and tata nexon. Mahindra is also launching more EVs soon
Going green backfired.
Not sure why volkswagon is not going full throttle in India. It has been here for close to 2 decades and still not able to commit itself completely. Indians especially in cities are aware of the quality VW provides and people are ready to spend a bit more for safety and quality. However, volkswagon needs to rebrand itself when it comes to after sales and service being cheap and reliable and parts must be easily available and cheaper. Also they need to provide more models, updates , features over time(something kia and hyundai keep redesigning their models every 6months, eg: i20). India is i feel a big enough market and indians may not prefer chinese cars
VW strong business still ICE cars. So I don't think indian would look for Chinese brands when it comes to ICE cars
I never liked any german cars/brands. I have a german dishwasher and it has a problem with heating and it is made in such a way that to fix it I have to pay the price almost like a new one, how come?
I thought India was the leader in EV
😂😂
@monipenny408 He was being sarcastic
As one comment on some other thread had put it, German cars in general stopped giving customers that one thing which Japanese and Koreans do - value for money.
your report lacks objectivity. The use of phrases like "China is taking away market shares from German manufacturers" and references to the "Wuhan COVID pandemic" raise concerns about journalistic neutrality. The term "taking away" implies a one-sided view, suggesting an unfair advantage rather than a competitive market dynamic. Additionally, labeling the pandemic by its place of origin can perpetuate biases and stigmatize a particular region, which is not conducive to objective reporting. Journalism should strive to maintain impartiality and avoid language that could be interpreted as biased or inflammatory. Objective reporting should focus on facts and present multiple perspectives to provide a balanced view.
She has never reported China objectively, and has always only reported negative news and fake news about China. So she has a nickname called the hyperthyroid woman, and some people say her ex-boyfriend is Chinese, haha. This is also the reason why I follow her channel, because I can often see fake news about China and bragging about India from her that makes me laugh. It is very entertaining for me.
Now Volkswagen is getting a taste of what they did to American automakers in the 1960-70's. Doesn't taste very good, does it, Volkswagen?
Islamic Republic of Germany...
What role does destruction of the Nordstream pipeline play in this demise?
End of Volkswagen, Audi, Porsche, and Škoda.
The next would be Lamborghini, Bentley, and MAN Trucks and Buses.
Here, in the Caribbean, VW is significantly more expensive than other vehicles. Used spare parts sale is a real market . But, VW are durable
I don't think people realise the effect of china in every segment. If this happens on India to it will hurt our economy and also the employers and the employees in these segments. I hope the Chinese will be kept off from our country atleast from these important manufacturing segments 😅
The problem is that Indians are begging to buy Chinese goods
Short eye view .before China all market is foreign company car .
no completion how are your car sector improve?
Having the Norstream2 blown up certainly has not helped! That dramatically increased energy cost! This is an extremely painful stock to own. Debating on selling at the 52 week low because things are not looking good. Might be time to just take another huge loss.
What can you expect from German government when Olaf government busy to open mosques and Madrasas for so called peaceful minorities
Hi Palki. I love listening to the way you impart the news. Your voice is so clear and beautiful with perfect enunciation. Regarding the article, yes, I can quite understand how difficult it must be for the VW Group. Much of these problems are because the legacy auto makers did not get behind the rise of Evs. We can call it lack of foresight. We have a BYD Atto 3 here in Western Australia and it's amazing. Beautiful to drive and trouble free. I had a Tesla Model Y last year until it was written off in a no-fault accident. I am now about to buy an Xpeng G6 EV and really can't wait. If people knew how good these Chinese EVs are, they wouldn't even consider a German legacy brand like VW.
Very logical and articulate
Germany was one who followed the usa trying to destroy russias econy and has destroyed its own in trying to do so.
Just admit, They can't compete with BYD Aand other Chinese brands.
Chinese had captured with their low cost similar quality and feature rich cars in most parts of the world
Why not open a plant in India with a high quality EV, at least you can Scratch the Chinese giant car makers in this rising Nation .
Let them close or open, why are we worried so much.🙃
Biggest reason VW is closing down is Europes Green Energy policy on steriods, coupled with US pressure to stop energy from Russia. If either of these two things did not happen VW would be able to produce EV's and sell them in Europe. Their cheap energy would have offset Germany's higher wages. So even with China VW could have continued. But with EU tariffs, China will no doubt put tariffs on EU goods and reduce exports to EU. This is not a China initiative. The blame rests solely on EU's compliance with US's fear of losing world dominance.
The real issue is not that German companies like VW can't produce quality EVs. The problem is that they can't afford the exorbitant energy cost to produce the cars/anything...after their good friends blew-up their gas pipeline.
