Is this IUD in the right position?

An IUD (or IUCD), aka intrauterine device or intrauterine contraceptive device, can be an effective way to prevent pregnancy or treat certain gynecologic symptoms. Progestin-released IUDs can help with heavy menstrual bleeding or period pain.
However, for them to work effectively, they need to be in the correct position! IUD placement is not that complicated but if done incorrectly, the IUD can end up somewhere it shouldn't!
That's why in my practice, I always do a scan before and after placement. And I recommend all patients who have an IUD placed to have a scan afterward to confirm it is in the right location. Better to know immediately this information that find out months later with an unintended pregnancy or lack of control of symptoms.
