I have an argument for the standard knife. What happens if you need to scan a fish but do not want to waste battery power with the SR or PC. Kill it with the the standard knife and you can scan it. If you use the heatblade it becomes cooked and you cannot scan it.
true, but why bother scanning it earlier when you can wait a few minutes to get a battery charger? It'll take like 3 seconds to recharge what you use per.
I realize this is an old video, so for new players here are the current stats. Regular knife does 20 damage. Thermo blade does 40 damage. Lava Lizards and Sea Dragons are immune to the Thermo blade because it is doing heat damage. Reapers and Sea Dragons have 5000 hps, and Ghost Leviathans have 8000 hps. While we're at it, a fully charged blast from a Stasis Rifle lasts 30 seconds. Hope this helps.
I can confirm the results of your testing. I have killed every aggressive leviathan on the map in my game (except the ghosts in the void of course). The sea dragon would not die to the thermoblade after hitting it over 500 times, but did die to the knife, taking about 250 strokes. (Damn near wore out my mouse). I also noticed there is a different “blood” graphic for the two knives as well. One other thing I am currently testing is the debate over whether resources respawn. I know the larger animals don’t, but there is controversy about small fish breeding and if minerals come back.
I know you posted this 9 months ago, but I just finished the game yesterday as it was free in epic games store, and in 45 hrs of gameplay resources did not respawn, but the fish they breed after some in game days, but I never tried if the leviathans respawn or breed
minerals such as outcrops definitely respawn. There is a cave that has 3 sandstone outcrops and in my early days of playing when I was scared of Stalkers, this is where I got my silver. The outcrops would respawn fairly regularly
I love the thermoblade, simply because it saves me from having to carry cured food for long journeys, if i get hungry i simply cook a nearby fish with it. I still carry 1 cured reginald with me at all times just in case i get hungry while exploring alien structures or some place where food isn't quickly accessible. Upgraded my original survival knife and haven't made a new one since, thermoblade 4 life.
I have a dedicated locker for my water and cured fishes in my cyclops. I am considering to grow melons in it too but cured foods and water still need to be syocked for Prawning around.
Only one? I always carry at least 2 cured Reginalds and 2 of the waters from the filtration machine and then two of each in my seamoth and prawn I also have at least one beacon with me
My guess would be that the lava lizard (and sea dragon because I accidentally tested it in my main world) probably get healed by the heat, so every time it takes damage the heat cancels out the knife's damage
That's a very good possibility for why they take no damage. Of course I think it will take the devs or a modder providing the actual design behind it for us to ever know for sure.
@@fluff4411 he meant that the heat damage heals back the physical damage of the blade, and the physical damage of thermoblade is 20 whereas survival knife is 25
I have had one table coral turn into two pieces of table coral on several occasions when I strike a table coral with the survival knife, I have yet to get two table corals from one table coral when striking with the thermal blade, probably mostly irrelevant though, Wow btw, I think I will be using the thermal blade more now after watching this video.
_ Harbinjer I think they are biome related. I keep getting 2 pieces of Table Coral Sample in the Lost River with one strike, while one piece in the Safe Shallows, noticed it first time when I struck one with a Prawn Suit Claw Arm, therefore I do not think it is equipment related.
Huh, I have a problem where over half of the table coral samples I hack refuse to let me pick it up and fall through the floor, and I've had the problem since the beginning, I think it may be because the floor is problematic what with the poor fps causing the ground to not be solid all the times (annoying with the prawn suit I have to save every 5 minutes) but it's the fact that even when I manage to turn down before it falls through it still doesn't let me pick it up.
Also wanted to thank you for the research - very interesting to see these results! Although when in the ILZ, I rely on the PRAWN suit punch to dispatch my foes...;)
Panzer SevenNine The standard punch? I usually use the drill arm..... ... @MrSpicyGaming we might have another test for you: How much damage does the Prawn suit drill arm do, compared to the standard punch? (You might have to compare it as strikes it takes vs total time with the drill arm it takes.)
What Upgrades Stack and which ones do not stack with vehicles? There are some vehicle upgrades that don't really say they don't stack with more of it in a vehicle (i.e. Prawn suit jet boosters, Seamoth Armor Upgrades) and wanted to know if more of one upgrade like Armor or Jet Boosters stacked.
I am not sure if you can really stack the upgrades and see any effect. But you have given me an idea for another video so I will definitely be doing a full breakdown on the upgrades soon.
something that I didn't know only after watching someone else do a subnautica YT vid is the range upgrades stack in the scan room, you can fill all the upgrade slots with range and get max scan range, you probably already know but I mention anyway.
Another video idea: How the Scanner Room functions! HUD Chip, upgrades and cameras would be the easy topics however the list of items to scan may be trickier... the list seems to grow as the player ?or? camera drones see ?or? collect other resources within the room's range. Still haven't figured the why of that part! It makes finding rare resources difficult as you have to construct the room, explore a bit, return to the room and initiate scanning... then go out and profit. I can see the logic in that for gameplay purposes (to get you out in the world) but it's also frustrating.
if u already have the item in the scanner u can scan it and go collect it. it should load more areas and then identify them too while u r out there. if u dont have the item and u know its there, better go explore a bit and it should show up
If you guys want some tips on killing a reaper leviathan, I would recommend: - building a smal base near it with a power source and a scanner room -equiping a HUD-scanner room chip (These are so you now where it is and so he can't attack you from behind) - stasis rifle - thermo knife - 2-3 charged batteries (you can mis a lot if you take more than 2) - first shot with stasis rifel is an uncharged shot, al the other ones are charged - hit it with thermo knife for about 20 seconds (charged orb stays 30 seconds) WARNINGS: 1. DO NOT BRING THE SEAMOTH TO CLOSE AS IT CAN STILL DESTROY YOUR SUB IN A FROZEN STATE 2. GO REGULARLY IN YOUR BASE OR THE THE SURFACE FOR OXYGEN (an ultra high capacaty tank is recomended)
Actually I know this following faction as I am an intellectual, if you have the "ultra high capacity air tank" then if the reaper comes to you you don't need a break for air. Also if you bring a seamoth, have vortex torpedoes so the reaper will stay still for a shorter time, so still bring a stasis rifle also you don't need the base, as it is just a precaution
It's funny how you bring a thermo blade for deeper travels to get food on the go, but at the lowest depths of the active lava zone you want a survival blade for the lizards and dragon. But I'm glad I know that now cause I did try to kill a lizard.
The survival knife has a faster rate of fire. If you hit right click twice in quick succession, the knife has another animation where it is swung somewhat sideways. The thermoblade doesn't have that animation. Just wanted to add to the conversation.
You have no need to keep the survival knife if you can upgrade it to thermoblade. And for the Sea dragon leviathans And Lava lizards just kill them like a normal person(prawn suit with grappling arm and drill arm+(optional)stasis rifle)
This isn't about damage but one thing i discovered was that you cannot harvest creepvines with the thermoblade but the regular blade does. I only switched over to the survival knife right away without double checking so im not 100% sure
also, theres around 32 reapers throughout the map, theres just 1 in the crash zones (more likely the thruster part of the aurora) and others are foun either on dunes (for sure), lost river (for sure) , grand reef (not too common), sparse reef (really rare) and other random places in the map (must be low temperature, reapers hate heat)
no, it should be a feature because they dive into darn lava to get armor so they absorb the heat from the blade, giving them health to fully recover from the physical hit before the next one
Because the thermo blade has heat on it and the thermo blade doesn’t do regular damage it does only heat damage witch is higher then the survival knife and lava lizards are immune to all heat
I think the moders are right ans wrong. It's right the upgraded knive does less damage, but the termoblade have bonus multiplier, it's an other variable.
Not sure how accurate I could test that as the Propulsion cannon will be based more on what is being fired with it. A crashfish that explodes at the right moment will do more damage to an enemy than a peeper will just hitting them.
MrSpicyGaming ok, also I think I know why the thermoblade does nothing to the lava lizard: they dip into lava and put a shell on their back so their scales would be immune to extreme heat. It would make sense that a creature that puts a shell of burning lava would be immune to a hot knife. This would be the same with the sea dragon
My test I killed 2 reapers each took 126 hits with the thermoblade the wiki says the reaper has 5 Thousand hp so the blade did 39.682 damage per strike
4:46 >Attempts to kill an LAVA lizard with THERMAL blade >THERMAL blade is literally scorching hot blade with battery fused on it. >you're literally attempting to kill an LAVA creature that's scorching hot with an torch dagger. it is cause they have a thick layer of scar tissue that's why they can go into lava and coat themselves with it
On the wiki , it says knife does 20, thermal does 40.. which matches the creatures hp.

The cave crawlers: 2 shot with survival knife
Also cave crawlers: 1 shot with thermo-knife
Doesnt it stand in the Game Files?
Idk but maybe the lava lizard doesn’t take any damage from the thermoblade because it is immune to extreme heats????
Or the thermo blade does less dmg since it could have a burning effect (like an overtime dmg effect) and to balance it survival knife does 5 more dmg
Lavalizards dive into lava to get some armor. Of course theyre imune to heat but why the blade aspect
Maybe the thermal blade gives them a little armor, since they can't die by it so instead of damagin them, it heals them
In short. use thermoblade in general but go back to normal knife while in lava area

Does this mean that the lava lizard is more powerful than the reaper leviathan
No, this just shows that the Lava Lizard "heals" through heat damage. It still has less health than a reaper leviathan.
