If Six Flags Closed Magic Mountain, What Happens to Their Coasters? (2006)

- Six Flags nearly killed Magic Mountain in 2006 following their attempt to sell the park, entertaining offers from real estate developers looking for land to build homes. Had this happened, where do all their coasters go? Which ones don't make it? This video looks at what I think would have happened.

I would be pissed if I bought a home in Valencia thinking it was going to come with coasters on the land and they ended up getting taken out before I moved in.
Ok Cartman 🤣
Haha... I live in the Netherlands and the closest coasters are in a ZOO: A Vekoma racing boomerang! For the closets B&M I have to drive more than 2 hours to the South! (Efteling and Toverland) Walibi Holland doesn't even have a B&M, but they do have a RMC ;-)
literally the 1 reason I would live there, gone
@@sdaniel9129 2 hours is nothing

Lol 95% of Chris's brain is filled with magic mountains history
And 100% of your UA-cam profile picture is attractions from six flags magic mountain
Welp your point just got proven! Chris is making a 5 part documentary series on the history of Magic Mountain! Hit it right on the head, lol.
Oh I Know. Thats why I said Hiccup.
You guys took what I said wrong. Its nice to see you come to his defense.
95% of my brains rollercoaster history is 2006. So it's a match.
This man wakes up and says "what SFMM video can I do today?" Let me just say that, I'm always absolutely here for it.
Haha well this was a followup to Monday's video, but once I start dropping my documentary there will be a ton of SFMM content
Still no SFMM flat ride history, though. We still love Freefall, Spinout, Log jammer, Z force, and my particular love Reactor.
“Six Flags America: We may not get great coasters, but we do preserve history.”
@Ken Norcott Firebird IS the first!
@Ken Norcott At least for most people we have Wild One to make up for it.
Put it in the board, it's a selling point, it counts
They have 4 good coasters and the rest is bad
@@HugeRMCFanBoY-bx3od And now they’re trying to give Mind Eraser vest restraints as if that’ll make it better. I’m sure gonna give it a go though for pity’s sake.
Discovery Kingdom would have an Amazing 1-2 Punch with Flashback and Harley Quinn
Dynamite duo 😂
Forget New England, that would be the real greatest 1-2 punch.
A 1-2 Punch so strong that it’s concussive.
@Blaster zac-doesn't spin
Adding a Superman clone behind Judge Roy Scream would have eliminated the need for the hotels next door to have alarm clocks. That ride would be one heck of a wake-up call.
I remember when this was the plan. Magic Mountain was one of my home parks as a child and my mom worked there in its first operating years before it was part of the Six Flags chain. I was really worried because the park is so great and had so many memories for me. I'm really glad they kept it.
One of the frustrating things about publicly traded companies is that quarterly profit goals become so important that people are willing to destroy a legacy that was meant to stand because of short term bad managerial decisions.
Since Six Flags is in the middle of a financial hit, maybe make a video if they sold Magic Mountain now and where those coasters would go?
Seconded!
Third.
I’m literally seeing the 2006 history repeat itself right now with Magic Mountain. And hearing what my two sisters who are working at park say what’s going on financially, it’s not looking good.
@@Emplordxiii good thing the Corona is starting to wind down with a lot of people (including me) getting vaxxed. Hopefully Six Flags can get back on its feet; I bet a lot of people who’ve gotten vaccinated are raring to go to parks and movies and all the other stuff they’ve missed
Close down the park now is not a intelligent move.
@@PedroPauloAmorim did we say it was an intelligent move? No. Did we say that’s what Six Flags was going to do? No. I think we can all agree unless they got a really really good deal for the park, Magic Mountain would be the last Six Flags park to close. I was giving a suggestion for a video for a hypothetical event/problem.
But as we learned with Astroworld, only two of the coasters would get to their next park without damage. Let’s thank Six Flags for not letting this happen.
Those SFAW coasters were kinda trash to begin with

@@AirtimeThrills how many times did you visit SFAW?
Chris you're killing me, we've talked before about how SFoT gets plenty of stuff, just not GOOD stuff, and you give us *checks notes* Mr. Freeze without the inverted top-hat when we already had Mr. Freeze. We could have righted some wrongs in this imaginary wonderland, LOL. I know, I know, it was rumored to be coming anyway (I remember that, btw) and to be fair even if it wasn't it's exactly the kind of boneheaded move SF would pull anyway for Over Texas so points for authenticity. All I'm sayin is if we can build new supports for Revolution we can build new SFoT-friendly supports for Tatsu. I'd even take Scream in the actual parking lot at this point, haha. SFoT, the coaster purgatory of the major, well-attended parks
There is plenty of space for Scream with theming at Over Texas just tear down Judge Roy Scream or the Music Mill Amphitheater.
If I hadnt heard that rumor about the superman clone at SFOT I would have said they would get Tatsu or Scream. But apparently they were looking at the reverse freefall for the park so it would have been a natural landing spot for Superman
I've always imagined Tatsu at SFFT. The Quarry could pull it off effortlessly.
Great Escape i believe was in line for Astro Worlds SLC but the 07-08 recession it ended up at LaRonde. Six Flag doesn't hate great escape. they have tried at the park. from what I have read in articles regarding there new for 2020-2021 ride is they have a lot of push back from neighbors constantly complaining about height and noise particularly from a development area located behind the park which was built around 04. Lake George is one of the top vacation locations in the north east and i think six flags wanted to try and cash in on this.
I love how you invest in researching, and it makes for really entertaining content. Especially, since I like to play the hypothetical games with theme parks as well! Keep up the phenomenal work!
I am really thankful for this video because for the entirety of the last video I was trying to figure out where tatsu (my #1) would go. tatsu is made to be on a mountain and so I empathize with your struggle to put such a majestic ride anywhere else
I love your speculation vids. You do way more research then I'd ever think about lol.
50K subscribers!! Great job, and congratulations!!!
Almost 50k wow you deserve it!
I just wanna say Congratulations on 50k! You deserve it so much!
Thanks!
50,000 subs! Congratulations!
Congrats on 50k!
They would bring all the kiddy coasters to great escape to say that they give coasters to them
Well based on what I witnessed when Six Flags chose to tear down Astroworld none of the coaster would have been moved or ever run again due to them getting torn up when getting disassembled.
Astroworld's coasters were all old and relocated themselves. Only the semi new steel coasters got relocated, like the SLC
Narrater sounds like Napoleon Dynamite....
Makes the channel that much better when you picture it.
So if Tatsu is going to Kentucky Kingdom and when Kentucky Kingdom closed what would happen to Tatsu?
Goes to great adventure instead of Chang?
Then where does Chang go maybe sfot
But if they had sold MM then they would have had enough money to keep KK open
@@joshsingleton7348 yes great adventure needs 2 flyers
@@coasterhockygamingboy9549 Good point! i was more asking than anything else.
Chris, I got my 500th credit last week with TMNT Shellraiser at The American Dream Mall. I couldn't wait anymore for any of the new coasters in Florida to open. I work for Ford and we aren't getting our normal 2 week plant shutdown this year to plan a big vacation. I had dreams of Iron Gwazi or VelociCoaster being that milestone, but the world's steepest drop is still a great #500! My #400 was one of your favorites...X2 at Magic Mountain (Jan 2020).
Great video!
Bruh get this mans to 50k. Like ur vids are so underrated.
Dude you’re SOOOOO CLOSE to 50k. Congrats in advance
66 away as of now
Cool video concept! Could you imagine riding that X lift hill looking back at SF Great America?!
San Antonio has a 200 foot height limit for Air Force activity, so a hyper is off the table. That’s why they built Steel Eel at 150.
You should do hypothetical videos like these for every American park. Would definitely make a great series!
Nothing like a SFMM vid to hopefully bring in 50k subs!
Why does it hurt so bad to say “Tatsu at Kentucky Kingdom?” 😂
I get to finally go back to an amusement park on Saturday let's go. Also, amazing video as always.
They should be wholesome and give great escape all of their coasters
Can’t wait for the documentary
Wow Chris I literally had the exact same thoughts as you! Please do this for Cedar Point next!!
STL hasn't gotten a kiddie coaster because they're allergic to giving us a new coaster. Even a kiddie coaster.
While SFA does have a lot of unused land, some of the wooded area must be maintained as a buffer for noise because of nearby homes. Also there is a stream that runs back behind the far helix of S:ROS which would cause environmental concerns for any attraction in that area, not to mention the noise buffer zone.
Would love to see this style video with other parks
Once again. Another weird thing that would have directly impacted my life if it had happened... and it's such an odd impact. There are a lot of things that Disney has done (or I guess haven't done) that would have had a huge impact on my life and caused it to be drastically different, if they had happened. But now, looking back on it, it turns out that Six Flags almost had a weird impact on my life. Already my life has gone in a different direction now that I was hired there, but now I have to imagine a world in which Magic Mountain closes when I'm six-years-old. Does the Valencia area mean anything to me at that point? No, probably not. So weird to think about.
Colossus at Darien Lake would have been amazing, especially if they were to later on rmc it
wow its really cool hearing the words "six flags" being said a bunch! i went to six flags when i was younger
Hey Chris(which is my youngest sons name) Since were playing Make-believe. How about Six Flags builds a park in Nashville and moves all their SFMM rides to Nashville. Yeah,,blew ya mind huh,,yeah.
Great video-loyal subscriber.
That would be pretty insane and bizarre to go to "magic mountain" but on a different site with the coasters in different spots
Will you do a 50k subs video? Congratulations on hitting this milestone soon 🎉
I have a few special edition videos planned for 50k
I honestly think that Tatsu would work better and would fit in the area more easily at SFNE than at Kentucky Kingdom
I breathed a big sigh of relief when Magic Mountain was taken off the market. There was a major outrage amoung the locals when it when on the market for sale. Many rallied to have the park along with its iconic coasters like Revolution and Colossus be declared a landmark to prevent the sale. Luckily the park was bringing in money as sales began to rise after the sale was announced publicly.
Well we can just scrap this whole video cause Six Flags Magic Mountain will guarantied stay open for as long as this World stands.
This video Idea is insanely good.
50k GG LOVE U
Thanks for this upload. Told my employees to cover the front while I count stock. But I’m watching airtime Thrills 🥃
That's awesome
@@AirtimeThrills Manager priorities.🤷🏻♂️ Hope to meet you soon Chris, keep doing your thang.🥃
I honestly think sending Scream! to SFOG could've help avoid them needing to turn their stand-up Georgia Schorcher in a floorless
Well, if Magic Mountain did got shut down by Six Flags in 2006, it would’ve been sad since people like Magic Mountain. However, I would predict if Six Flags should shut down Magic Mountain in 2071, the park’s 100th Anniversary instead of 2006.
There would’ve been protests 🪧 from park goers as well.
Yeah there were a few open CW protests in 2020
Meanwhile in an alternate universe:
If Six Flags Closed Astroworld What Would Have Happened To Their Coasters (2005)
I always used to think that a free fall launch coaster or even a intamin strata coaster would fit really well on the land that Judge Roy Scream sits if Six Flags Over Texas were to ever remove it. Or they could even have more fun and build it on the lake next to it. But they don’t care enough about Over Texas to try anything new here :(
Man I’m glad they all stayed where they are otherwise going there today would have been way less fun.😂
I think any of the B&M's would be a good fit for SFDL, since they don't have any.
You should do a video like this of what if another theme park operator, like Cedar Fair bought the park.
Big brain thought: preserve Revolution not by moving it, but selling like 75% of the park and keeping the area around Revolution as a small local park, and making it the big standout ride
Thanks for the “cookie”!!
8:22 *Ahem* The 1st superman being at over georgia, the clones were for the other parks. My home park does have that on the others.
Tatsu getting relocated to Six Flags New England would’ve been awesome. Imagine a B&M flying coaster that wraps around and interacts with Wicked Cyclone or Superman The Ride.
8:35 HOLY SHIT THAT WOULD MAKE KENTUCKY KINGDOM’S LINE UP INCREDIBLE! (Assuming if everything else in history went as planned)
Storm Chaser, Lightning Run, Tatsu, that would make Kentucky Kingdom better than Holiday World lineup wise.
Plus imagine if Chang never left. Cramped as hell, but one can dream lol.
Ok Better Then Holiday Worlds Lineup Is Kinda Pushing It But Definitely Better Then SDC Or Knott's Berry Farm Imo
@@HugeRMCFanBoY-bx3od Fun fact I'm a Holiday World ride operator and I made this statement.
It would very much make it a stunning lineup.
Superman would be pretty cool at SFNE. Not sure if they would've been able to get permits for that height back then, but it could've been great if placed parallel to the waterpark, stationed in the old Thomas Town. Also, Tatsu could've been awesome in the picnic grove, especially if it crested over the trees.
There’s also that strip of land between Superman and the river
Due to Six Flags' financial hit due to the virus, can you do a video if Six Flags Magic Mountain closed in 2022/2023?
I would have loved to have seen what Elitch Gardens would have been had Six Flags kept it. That would have been a great spot for a coaster like Scream, and doubt Elitch Gardens’ future would be in this much peril had Six Flags held on to it and gave it something good. As far as Riddler’s Revenge and Great Adventure, Chang was originally slated for Great America as a floorless conversion but got shifted to NJ instead. Sending either RR or Scream to Great America would have made a ton of sense.
And I would give Revolution to Great Escape. That would work great there.
Honestly SFNE could’ve gotten Tatsu. At that point they only had Superman along with a ton of meh. Something like Tatsu would’ve really put them on the map as THE New England park before Wicked Cyclone.
You should make this but for the other six flags parks
The Kingdom is my home park and I think I'd be just fine with Tatsu just showing up one day.
Goliath to STL would have made sense as well, since our planned hyper was sent to SFOG instead, and we already had a multi looper, even if it stunk.
Geauga Lake's kiddie coaster was sold to a park in France, but yeah
I want Scream to come to St Louis, regardless of if Magic Mountain closed or not. It is neglected there and overshadowed by the bigger and better coasters, but I know the GP of St. Louis would eat this up if it moved here.
I don't know if Tatsu will fit at Kentucky Kingdom, But if they made an underground tunnel for a bottom of the pretzel loop, And themed it to Batman or Superman, It would fit just fine.
Poor Marine World/Discovery Kingdom ☹️😂 I would have been so spoiled if X2 made its way to my home park of SFGAm 😎 Tatsu would have been great at SFFT!
I hope SFFT never gets rid of Pandemonium. It's a super fun intermediate coaster with no inverts. Instead, take out the Picnic Grove area to fit Goliath.
“Imagine this beside harley quinn. Awesome”
All i can say is 🤣🤣
I think sending Goliath to Six Flags Over Georgia would have been fun
Over Georiga didn't need two Hyper coasters
@@yolemawe6395 but hersheypark cedar point canada’s wonderland and kennywood do...
@@coasterhockygamingboy9549 I guess you have a point
Riddler's Revenge at Great Adventure would have been epic and would've fit the Green Lantern theme
I know you shut out SFoG but I think they could've got one of the kiddy coasters. I know they have Joker Funhouse and a mine train but they could really use something else for the smallest riders
You think boomerangs and slcs are the dynamic duo? Well, let me introduce you to the dynamic trio
Psyclone, flashback, and harley quinn. And to make it even better, Discovery Kingdom already had an slc, a boomerang, and roar.
It would have been the best coaster collection on the planet
is the video about New England coming out soon?
Yep, Monday
Great Adventure was going to get a 4D X clone in 2003, but maintenance issues at Magic Mountain convinced Six Flags for a flying coaster.
I just came here to say not only so 4d coasters count as a credit, they count as 2 for forward and backwards, thanks.
Yay 50k!
Six Flags was nearly bankrupted by 2006. I doubt they would have spared the expense of keeping Colossus, Viper, or Falshback.
Scream! might have made it to Kentucky Kingdom if the Dominator Rollercoaster didn't go to Geague Lake and St. Louis gets Tatsu. But either way, both St. Louis and Louisville would be getting an B&M.
I agree with everything but Tatsu. If you really were in a real alternative universe where magic mountain was sold Tatsu would have to be scraped. As expensive as it is it can't just be placed on another plot of land this isn't roller coaster tycoon. With the losses already suffered if they had indeed sold they would have just had to eat it and scrap the thing.
don't worry. we here at Discovery Kingdom are happy just to get anything every year.
I'm just glad I don't live in that part of the multiverse where this did end up happening.
If I were Six Flags I would put Goliath at St Louis, then Tatsu can go to Fiesta Texas. I don't even know if a 170 foot coaster can be built at Kentucky Kingdom, since it's right next to the airport.
Tatsu and Goliath at Fiesta Texas!!! There’s already a Batman clone in San Antonio anyway. SFNO can send their Batman up to Great Escape.
Tatsu gets sold off to Cedar Point or Kings Island. Fiesta Texas is the only Six Flags Park that makes sense. X2 at Great America would be great!
I can't imagine Tatsu at Kentucky Kingdom. IDK how that would work.
it's been a while
Yessss finally my birth year
I like the idea of Tatsu being at Kentucky Kingdom.
I wish we had gotten x, but on the bright side I should be riding it this summer
(Yes great America is my home park)
Suggestion: Mine trains ranked
I can see it happening in the future in our life time...
Is all the magic mountain content part of a plan, or do you just miss it?
Next month, there will be a five part documentary about the history of Magic Mountain for their 50th.
🥳
All the recent content of Magic Mountain is a run-up to Chris' 5 part documentary in celebration of 5 decades of the park!!
I think he truly misses Magic Mountain, because his home park now is the boring Frontier City.
