Such a creative & fun vid! Would totally watch a series of these.
I agree!
Agreed!
I just got back into coasters through great channels like this one after not havinfgone to my home park (sfga) in 15-20 years. I tried to check it out, but the vast majority of the park is not on street view. To everyone - is your home park on street view?
Agreed
I’ve never been to SFMM and to see that they removed a monorail is kind of disappointing. They really could’ve made a resort their by putting in a resort hotel and having the monorail connecting the hotel to the amusement and water parks. That could’ve been like the thrill seeker resort to compete with Universal and Disney.
that’s true but it wouldnt have the best view since there is a lot of only rocks near sfmn
@@ploral2 Yes just right in the middle of SC valley
Can you really imagine six flags running a resort? All the rooms would be "closed" and they'd serve Johnny rockets food there.
SFMM sold the monorail to Hershey Park where it is still running to this day
It wasn't like a fancy Disney monorail. It was the same as Hershey Park. When they closed it they sold parts and remaining trains to Hershey.
I remember coming for my 2nd visit after 14 years in 2019 and being overwhelmed by the amount of new rides and west coast racers had just soft opened. This parks lineup is criminally underrated. It is loads top depth.
I was just doing this at Worlds of Fun the other day, I’m new to this area and didn’t know much about the history of the park. It’s very interesting to see how things have changed.
Very cool that Google Maps shows what Six Flags Magic Mountain was like back in 2011 (11 years ago), before Magic Mountain is today (2022)! I was 5 in 2011, and this was a thing before I start getting into roller coasters!
You are not the only one who loves the parks history. It amazes me the things that have changed in such a short amount of time. I look forward to the many new changes the park will have in the future. On a side note, a shopping area at the top of the mountain as well as a new restaurant overlooked the park from the location of the old pizza restaurant would be an awesome addition.
Also, do you know if there are any photos from inside that restauraunt? I know that it closed a while ago, but it would be interesting to see what it once was.
As someone whose home working location is Chop Six, I have to say thank you for enjoying our food!
Our restaurant tends to get a mixed rep amongst the culinary workers of Six Flags due to it's hectic and largely faced paced environment, especially on Saturdays; so to hear that you guys actually enjoy the food we cook makes me feel reassured!
I just had some on Saturday and it was glorious
I've been going to SFMM since like 2002 and I don't remember the Monorail track at all. That's wild.
You just hit me with a wave of nostalgia that made me miss Moosburger Lodge! 😔
Also surprised you didn't mention the ride right there where you'd stand against the wall and it would just spin. I always loved riding that. Normally you can only ride a "gravitron" type ride at a fair.
Spinout was gone way before 2011
That was interesting to see how much has changed over the years at my home park. Also something I noticed that was in the older pictures was the pumpkin lights they used to put on the light post during fright fest. I don't recall seeing those in a long time so I think they don't use them anymore. It was interesting to see what they used to do for fright fest in some of those older picture from 2011. Just that event alone has changed so much over the years.
Omg yes the pumpkins on the lights were my favorite thing about fright fest back in the day they looked so cool
This would be even crazier for my home park of Busch Gardens Williamsburg. The street view is from 2009, and there’s a great view of Big Bad Wolf back when it was around
Ah man thats awesome
As i live near the park, im 38 i havent been in over 10 years, but i imagine its crazy different now.
This awesome trip down memory/history lane makes me nostalgic for Astroworld (RIP) in Houston, Texas when I worked there in the 90s. I would love to see more historical vids. Thanks for the interesting & unique video.
Interesting video! My very first visit to the park was in summer 2010 so this is pretty representative of how the park has changed since I started going. They've really made so many improvements over the last decade. I think the only downside is they have lost many, many trees. Particularly throughout Ninja's layout and Full Throttle.
Woooow! Thats something I always want to see. I’m a huge fun of videos like that!!!
The landscaping back in the days was so much nicer. Six flags didn't had money for water, concrete was more affortable
this was an awesome vid. i had a huge gap from 2011 or 2012 to 2019 where i didnt visit the park, and there was so much more empty space when i came back i couldn't remember what it used to look like anymore. the dc plaza is gonna be nice when its finished, i hope there are more renovations to come that will give this park the facelift it deserves
Lets goo. Another great video. I like when the website does not update. Brings back old times
This is a great video for me. I visited MM yesterday for the first time since 2010. Some things have changed but it still felt familiar.
Man I’ve been going to this park for so long I aint even realize half of these changes really great video
I found it interesting how often you mentioned trees being removed. I mainly go to Cedar Point and so much of the natural shade there is long gone. Is this a trend at a lot of amusement parks? I know it's a lot more work to take care of trees, especially keeping them trimmed along rides, but it sure is nice to have them.
Amazing video this park is in my top 3 Bucket List parks that I have to visit. This video definitely took me through memory lane.
This is really cool. Despite living in L.A. my whole life, I never went to Magic Mountain growing up. It wasn't until I started working there last year that I actually stepped foot inside the park. I've been into parks for years, I just never had the opportunity to hit up the closest one to me. Getting to see an entire walkthrough of it from 11 years ago is really cool though. I do almost feel some nostalgia for the old park. Pretty much the whole thing has changed since then. The rides themselves are the only things that are the same. Those paths though, are almost unrecognizable. It's kind of funny how different they look considering the fact that the park does a good job of "preserving" the buildings they don't use anymore. I would have thought it was just paint and polish, but really - from the looks of the photos - they've gutted and replaced almost everything, save from the southwest quadrant of the park. Super cool video.
I lived in OC for 30 years, been to Disneyland only once. I know that feel.
Wow 2 years dang thats a long time I would never be able to wait that long. But that is a cool Idea!
Great video. The first time I went to magic mountain the tree on revolutions hill were no more than 3 years old. Thanks for the excellent update video. Its been a while since my last visit.
This is a very neat idea, talk about a great birthday present for me! The same can be applied for Silver Dollar City, it's absurd how much that park has changed over the last 11 years.
I bet, with everything hidden its probably hard to tell from street view though
Super creative video idea! Love this and would watch many more like this!!
I think its cool seeing how parks evolve. Cool Idea, you should do CP in a few years or something with all the changes
Very cool video concept. Interesting to see how it changed. Love the content 👍
I remember when my mom, thinking twisted Colossus was still Colossus, told me it was just ups and downs. I also remember crying afterwards because I, and my mother, were misinformed by a million
as someone who grew up going to knotts i would love for you to make a video like this for kbf! especially since i haven’t been back since my family moved from cali back in 2015. love your videos keep it up
This was great! I would love to see one of these of Six Flags Great America!
I was there in 2012 and then again 2022… so this was a must watch for me
I went here in 2011 for my first time on most of the coasters! I’ve tracked the change here as well, so thanks for making a video showing the differences!
Nice video! I visited the place in August 2011 (haven't been in the US since, I'll have to make amends at some point in the 2020s) and just a quick note that Log Jammer was still running at the time and the monorail track was already gone (or at least I have zero recollection of it being there).
This is great! I did this with Alton towers (my home park) as I started going in 2020 and the difference is staggering looking at old rides, restaurants and theming pieces.
I went to the park two days ago after having gone in 2014. The park is definitely adding many rides, but some of the older stuff is honestly some of the best they have. It’s a park with great rides but some things hold it back.
Would love to see a series of these because google street view has this for a lot of parks and yeah they are outdated by a lot. For example you can still see SoB for kings island
Great video gave me so much nostalgia. Made it feel like it was 2011 all over again
Really great idea for a video! UA-cam has alot of channels covering coasters, I have to say your channel stands out above the rest because of your creativity. I'm always excited to see what comes next! Keep up the awesome work!
Love this video. Brought back so many memories. Some of my favorite stuff you do is the history of the parks and coasters.
I like that you did this! I go on Google maps all the time! And look at old six flags. I know this was from 11-22 but you should done it back in 07 where the original X was there b4 X2
Material Gworl!!!!! Love this video mr airtime thrills
I've gone to SFMM recently and I notice some wild west props were added around the tatsu area. Also, Roaring Rapids was still closed, I'm thinking they are planning to remodel that part of the area and give it a refresh including a storyline or an updated water attraction with roaring rapids. this may probably happen once DC universe and Wonder Woman are complete (or halfway complete). Something tells me that SFMM is planning to remodel the park the best way they can in response to the 50th anniversary.
My home in the Netherlands is also out dated on Google Maps Streetview! Satelite images can be accessed from almost every year, but the street view is still of 2009...
I’m pretty sure Hershey’s is from 2011 as well. It’s even more insane. It was before skyrush, laff trakk, candymounium, the drop towers. Roller soaker was still there. Hershey park is one of most expanding parks and after its huge one after the 90s skyrush started it again. Each new ride really transformer the area it was in
Now I’m sad apparently it was updated but only to 2018 which is kinda strange but alright
Great video! I never noticed any of the easter eggs when I went lol
This was fantastic!! Any idea if this is possible for other parks?
I bet it is, you can still walk around cedar point as of 2011. Id just need to get there and film
I remember going there in 2006 when I was three and only being in the kids area, but seeing how much everything has changed is really cool to see
Look at that old paint job on Riddlers Revenge! 2:34
thx so much for creating these videos, i live within a 1 hour drive of magic mountain and love to learn more about my home park.
I remember back in the 90s, the place used to be wall-to-wall people. It was packed. What happened? There are never any kids or families in Bugs Bunny World. The park could use a good monorail like Disneyland's or a People Mover.
I do this with kings island and Cedar point all the time
The big man’s back
I could go back to the past and see what the park used to be!
There's quite a few parks that have street view, dating back to 2011. Cedar point has it too, which could be interesting. Funnily enough, Michigan's adventure has 2011 street view too, but it'd look nearly the same.
Rip Michigans adventure. I walked thru cedar point recently also. Loved seeing wildcat and disaster transport
Wish more coaster enthusiast channels did things like this. Great video!
A lot of what I know about SFMM is from its appearance in RCT2 (I've never been there). The fact that the monorail no longer exists was news to me
Yeah, RCT2 was made in 2000. This was both my first year at SFMM, and the year I got back into RCT, so it was quite jarring to see how much the game differed from real life.
Amazing video as always!!!
Ingenious.
Gotta admit, even tho the rides are much better today, Magic Mountain had so much more life & activity going on when I was a kid back in the early 90's... The place was seriously like a carnival...
Man, 2011 was the last time I visited SFMM... (only been there twice, in 2005 then in 2011)
All I ever wanted was to ride the og Colossus -- it was my holy grail since I was 4 (thanks to National Lampoon's Vacation) and glad I could make it twice. Now I need to revisit it for the Twisted Colossus... (not easy for me living 6k miles away in another country)
what an amazing concept! can’t wait to see more videos like this
I love your videos💜
I went to six flags yesterday and it was fun
This is the most nestalgic video I’ve ever seen. I’ve been going to this park for so long I go every winter and summer and it’s my favorite park.
I HATE how they removed all the branded restaurants and made their own generic trash. Really took a step back. Universal doesn’t do that
Really cool video concept, Chris!
Great video. Would love to see one on King's Island since that park has changed so drastically.
Awesome video! You should do this for other parks
Very entertaining and fun to watch. Thanks for posting this.
I started working at MM in 2011, and one of my favorite parts was seeing all the modern ruins of stuff that just hadn’t been taken out yet. It’s better for the brand to fully remove defunct construction but I liked looking back in time.
Like my hidden nuggets of SFMM video from 2 years ago. Park laziness = fun for history nerds
I’ve been coming to six flags my whole life, I live in LA I love the facts that you did a comparison to how it was before, I got soo upset when they took out the panda it was my fave place to eat after a long day , or the log ride 😭😭😭😭
great video, gonna ride one of your bucketlist coasters i think next month; Kondaa at walibi belgium
Jealous
@@AirtimeThrills also if you ever come to belgium in your life i know you like kondaa cause it's suposed to be an airtime machine, don't skip the ride to hapiness i went on it last summer and it's so intense
It's pretty sad how they removed some decent chain restaurants and ice cream places. They replaced the Panda Express with "Chop Stix" , then they replaced that with a terrible pizza place. Now you have to leave the park and drive to the nearest Panda Express or In-N-Out for some decent food.
Gold rusher is gone noooo! I remember everyone overlooked it, but it was a hidden gem of the park. I got to rid it 7 times back to back because no line. It will be missed
Gold rusher is still there lol
I miss all the trees and shade that those trees provided they seriously need to plant new ones but with then again we’re in a drought still
Great video either way brotha
I wish you could do this by going back further decades!
The CC decided that when Chris said "...Dinn wood coaster" it actually was "...didn't wood coaster" and based on popular opinion (no Dinn credits), I'm not sure that's entirely inaccurate.
A lot has changed I'm those 11 years, meanwhile my home park of Six Flags St. Louis got 1 coaster in that span and it was a relocated boomerang.
Ive done this before with my homepark (Slagharen), Google maps is like a portal back in time for themeparks. Id like to see more of these.
Yea you can still see 2011 for great escape and six flags New England on earth too. I don't wanna check all of the parks but someone else could!
liked the video even though I haven't been to mm in 21 years
Those lines at the food places are insane. Is it always like that?
Loved this video!
You know, it only occurred to me just now that "Chop Six" is a horrible pun on "chopsticks".
Six flags should’ve just stuck with Panda Express.
Awesome video !
Dude google seriously needs to cache their old scans so that all of us can someday take a walk back in a city/park/wherever like it was 30 years ago. I'm so fucking down for that
I love how google earth archives their satellite images and you can scroll thru the years. Street view would be awesome also
@@AirtimeThrills wait.....they already have that capability?
I miss log jammer so much
Google maps really does ignore the evolution of amusement parks. Most of the walk-throughs are almost ancient.
Good vid.
1998...Mooseburger at the Lodge followed by a ride on Flashback. The burger stayed down. Must've been feeding my Psyclone migraine.
Flashback wasnt really a gut buster...more like a head masher
@@AirtimeThrills Exactly!
Great Video!
You should do the same thing except with versions of yourself from 2011 2001 1991 I don't think you go back to 1981. That would be a fun thing to see funny pictures of you from each decade.
I miss Freefall the most. Lex Luthor Drop of Doom is so stupid. There's something eerie about Freefall, like the dropping blade of a guillotine.
Thanks for the dinner reminder
I remember riding colossus before it got RMC’d
Time for a samurai summit face lift.
I remember when the park used to have Papa John’s!!!
I remember the Johnny rockets 🌛
Six flags New England on google street view didn’t have Goliath yet, and now it’s scrapped
