Snapewives is an interesting case study of a general phenomenon in how individuals participate in escapism in fiction but it can also cross into obsession. How social networks established the idea of "fandom" facilitated further progression by a process of sharing or infection of individual manifestations of fiction-obsession between individuals who would not normally meet each other.
They're obviously inspired by things of various occult traditions like Hermeticism and in practice, It's even more exotic. I believe, that the most common occult beliefs and practices, have worked as catalyst of its evolution - if you want, I can explain further. It's not so hard to anchor such obssesive beliefs with lucid dream/astral travel, esoteric beliefs (all fiction was real before created, characters are autonomous astral beings), then you add some hypnagogic states, dream diary and selfpersuasion. Great video as always! I think the Snape Wives don't deserve be made fun of, because no one does, but I also think such obsession can't be called "just a hobby", I understand the comparisons to sports fans and Christianity, but that's not really the same, is it? When your obsession gets to the level of doing blood rituals on posters to channel Snape or fantasizing about dying to unite with him, there are clearly some underlying mental issues going on, and I think that says a lot more about humanity's general stigmatization mental health care as something for "crazy people" and our failing to properly address this issue and inform people about it.
i totally get what you're saying, it's one of those things that feels so absurd you just have to laugh but when you really think about it, there's obviously something deeper that's behind the obsession. when i read about the blood on the poster that definitely took it to another level for me too, because it seems less of like an "extreme/obsessive crush on a fictional character" and more of an extremely concerning mental issue. it still weirds me out that the husbands seemingly did not step in to the situation from what i gathered. thank you again for watching, i always appreciate your thoughtful comments :)

All I feel for these women is sympathy. As someone who grew up with an overactive imagination who would often retreat into fantasy worlds of my own, I can understand the desperation of wanting to connect with someone who does not exist. Wherever these women are now, I hope they found happiness and love with the real people in their lives.

Videos like yours have covered Snapeism's opposition to depictions of Snape in M/M relationships, but I'd love to ask a Snapeist if a man would be allowed to become a Snapehusband, or if a nonbinary person would be allowed to become a Snapespouse. Must it all be strictly M/F hetero across the board, or is this only when depicting Snape with other characters, or having Snape with other men?
I'm all for respecting fringe groups as long as they aren't harming anyone, but to dismiss criticism of it and concern regarding the members' mental health as sexist is absurd. For starters, you can't pretend that it's a regular fandom when they not only believe a fictional character is real, but that he is a god and form a cult around him. Already the "harmless" part is questionable at that level. Second, if someone seriously thinks that men don't get mocked or called crazy for obsessing over fictional female characters, I don't know what world they've been living in. Hell, showing any amount of interest in a female character can be enough to get you branded as a creep. Hell, being part of a fandom at all can make people treat you as a weirdo, nevermind reaching the level of creating online shrines for your cult devoted to said character. I also find it rather hypocritical to dismiss criticism of this sort of behaviour as bigotry while ignoring the explicitly homophobic aspect of the cult, which is all the more disturbing nowadays with Rowling's transphobic rants. Again, this really shows that this group is far from harmless. This level of obsession would be unhealthy if it were for a real person, let alone a fiction one, and it's an LGBT-phobic cult that reacts to dissent with swift retribution, so I'd argue that putting their mental health into question is more than fair, and rather than being enabled, these people need some serious psychiatric help.
yes absolutely! i wanted to include some differing opinions of the snapewives in the video but i do think it's unfair to dismiss any criticism as sexism. it's true that women involved in fandom can be treated like they're weird/only interested because they're attracted to a character, but like you said, that happens to men as well and they are often treated as creepy just for being interested. you also have a good point regarding homophobia. while the social climate was definitely a bit different in the mid 2000s, i still remember it being pretty unacceptable to be openly homophobic (at least where i live). i hope these women are no longer so deeply in their obsession, but the fact that they did get so intensely obsessed (to the point of blood rituals) indicates to me that they were definitely mentally unwell and it wasn't an issue of other people just "misunderstanding" them or being sexist. again, this is such a well informed comment and i appreciate it so much :) you have a lot of things to say that make me think deeper about the topics i cover
Who knows, if C. G. Jung was right about the collective unconsciousness, maybe Snapeist really could be in contact with some archetype, egregore, collective something? Or invading dreams of Mr. Rickman?
I was caught off-guard by one of the Snapewives mentioning a Christmas dinner with Snape. Like, imagine celebrating another religion's holiday with your god. And then I remembered the Last Supper was a Passover seder, and all the disciples present believed Jesus was Lord, so like... maybe it's not that weird actually, lol.
I love Alan Rickman's Snape but deeply despise the book Snape as for a teacher it's an absolute sin to bully your students. Just for what he did to Nevile I would throw hands on this bustard.
They're sure, that Snape is a real being like you and me. Exists in a different dimension, where they can visit him. Rowling is just imperfect channeler of this being and didn't create him, he isn't a character in a book, but rather something like a Voodoo loa or lwa. It even includes a possesion in "positive" way. Who knows, what else they do. I am both disgusted and curious.

Naw, they just need more snape 😂.
@@Shinypokemon77 maybe you're onto something....
@@strange_soup 😂😂
They think they're married to a fictional character. They're completely bonkers.
*THANK YOU!!! 😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👌🏼💓💓💓💓💓💓💓💓💓💓💓💓💓💓💓*
thanks so much for watching! :)
Awww!!! I love potter puppet pals
Snape walked so Kylo Ren could run 💚🖤🌸♥️🖤
this is so interesting and insane
This saga would only be possible in 2006 lol
Fly high Half-Blood Prince :D
I love Alan Rickman's Snape but deeply despise the book Snape as for a teacher it's an absolute sin to bully your students. Just for what he did to Nevile I would throw hands on this bustard.
I'm fucking dying over here.. 🤣
Enlighting.
Last drop of faith in the humanity is lost... 😢
Charlie is here
I mostly feel bad for these women's husbands.
Dragirls in 25 years:
Whe. Snape reads scripture..Turn to page 394
They even HEAR him!
Its not for me, but honestly a lot of mainstream religions are suoer weird. As long as it doesn't hurt anyone
What in the actual feck
i can't tell if this is a response to a specific part of the video or to the concept of snapewives/snapeism but either way i agree
Team Conchita!!!!!!!!! Slay queen 🔥🔥🔥🔥
SNAPE
Goku is my Lord and Savior.
Lol
mine too!!
im super late to this video but um. this behavior is a symptom of a psychotic disorder. i hope those women are doing okay.
@@KitchenWitchery from my own experience with schizophrenia. i have nothing against any faiths or practices, i'm religious myself, but some lines were crossed in their situation. you can definitely hold strong religious beliefs without them turning pathological or harmful. this doesn't seem to have been the case. you can view it as a legitimate practice with some disturbances that got out of control. have a great day and i hope this provides an explanation.

Nope.
and here i thought scientology was stupid
You can't judge a book by looking at its cover
