I remember SEGA announcing that they didn’t give Beat a “character” because they wanted the players to create their own backstories, which is why he’s the most simple compared to the others in the cast. They also said something similar about Gum.
Jet Set Radio could have it's own manga or anime.

I'd say the closest we have to a Jet Set Radio manga/anime is Air Gear.
Gum could be rocking a temporary tattoo. That way it could be move to wherever she wants them to be, like a tag.

When you said that Beat had a little bit of a high-pitched nerdy voice and a cheerful yet calm personality, that only made me love him as a character even more! :D
Also while Gum looks like she'd make a rap about bubble gum, Beat looks like someone who would rap about subway. They're perfect for each other!
I was so upset when I found out TRiPPY's stickers were rejected, the NiGHTS stickers were so awesome, I love how colorful and expressul her fanarts are.

There's actually some solid info you can find on the Jet Set Radio characters. There was a very obscure guidebook made for the game that for the most part is in Japanese, but there are translations of the character pages. Quite a great show, I watch these at night to study what it means to have great character design. I'm an artist myself, and whenever I have trouble designing a character for my stories, I watch one of these videos, and get to drawing. Thanks DiGi, for your hard work and your amazing attention to detail in your videos. Here's to another 3, no, screw it, 300 thousand videos. If you can, that'll be awesome, but Please, don't make THAT many at once, don't burn yourself out Bruv.

Honestly this'll probably get buried in other comments and all that, but I'm appreciative of this series. Half of the things Digi talks about in his videos are games I haven't played, I more or less watched them for fun. But the way he talks about series he enjoys like JSR and NiGHTS actually inspired me to go check out Sega's old IPs. I bought and beat both JSR and JSRF now and I have this video to credit for it. I absolutely adore the titles. Thank you Digi for this great series, and keep up the good work.

Same here. In fact, it's like mutualism for me. I look up a Sega IP that I want to try, see one of Digi's character reviews, and only want to try the game more.
I know I could get a free trial off of the Xbox Live Arcade, but I'm too lazy.

short edit: Jet set radio future is the game for the original Xbox, with a amazing visuals (even now imo) and sweet soundtrack, it's a bit of the same story but a different gameplay experience
The story does continue but somehow robots and time travel get involved. Also the graffiti is used a lot better allowing you to drive by tag which makes the pace ramp up. As well as the new trick system. Everything is just so smoother.
TIM IS DEAD exacly, but it still with the same bad guys etc, and you need to scout everyone again, and people don't recognize each other etc.
JSRF is a reboot of the first game
JSRF was nice but had so many flaws
but i cant play that on my vita lol but still theres isnt any on the switch. so im happy with jet set radio for the vita visuals is still amazing

I think Professor K's rough around the edges dialogue helps his character, he has a lot of enthusiasm for what he's doing, but he's just starting out so he's not perfect at it
at least, that's what i get from it, maybe im not really good at judging performances

If you don't like JSR, Play Jet Set Radio Future. It controls a lot better and is a much more fun experience overall. (There is a little more character development too. Not by much though.)

Congratulations on 3 years of progressive content! I've been a fan for a year or so and I'm digging this format that you've honed so well. I think the skits, your shifts from relaxed to comical and the amount of research you put into these makes this one of the few channels that still has that old school UA-cam feel whilst still remaining professional and well edited and all. Beat felt like the main character of Jet Set Radio, but Yo-Yo felt like the main character of Jet Set Radio: Future, since he is literally in Beat's shoes(skates?) at the start of the game and is the first character we play as -- he's also the only character to have the most prominent role in the story beyond just being a player character.
I breathed jsr for a longggg time nostalgic watching this all great as always man

JSR was my absolute favorite game, I had to be kicked out the room to stop playing it, no jokes. I think some of the fun of it is imagining up what some of the personalities for these characters may be and where they come from, but yeah, I'd love more coverage on the lore front. What a game! The sequel for this game is the one that I've played the most, but the initial game is so much difficult and way too energetic with it's signature soundtrack, a perfect combination for a very unique gameplay and story, but again, The music! fucking hell the music is fantastic.

I swear this game is pretty much what got me and my brother into our art, we both were doing graffiti at the time and I always see myself coming back and playing this game over and over. The real game that got me into the series however was Jet Set Radio Future, since it was more recent and on top of that the controller for me (personal opinion) felt good in my hands. Not to mention there was a butload of great music, new and returning chracters, and most importantly the dog. Yes, the dog was the most important thing.
