I went thru this over the summer looking in VT, in the end I decided to wait due to lack of good properties and high pricing. Market will hopefully stabilize. You summed it up, you can see one neighbor already and have no idea what is going to happen with the property on the other side. I think the sweet spot is 3-5 acres.
You already said it and pretty much know the answer. The point of being up there is for some quiet and isolation. The minute I realize I can see (and hear) the neighbors through the trees......big no thanks. I'm in northern NJ and hope to have some property up there eventually myself. Will be interested to hear about your experience. Also, I usually camp closer to home but need to get up there and start exploring that area.
The Adirondacks is a place for some, a destination . For many of us, you included ( I can see), the Adirondacks is a part of us, a natural connection that cannot be described. The mountains are love at first sight and the air is like a warm blanket that wraps you up and holds you tight. It is a romance so to speak . It may even surpass all other romances to your soul. I’ve been here all my life and in these 50 + years there has never been another place I would ever want to be. Every turned over autumn leaf you see was meant for you. Every drop of rain , every snowflake and every sun ray is a gift to you from the beloved and sacred land that literally is as old a time. To own a piece of this would be a blessing. I personally would pass on land with a neighbor and especially their free roaming pets lol. When you step foot on the property that is actually meant for you, your hair will raise , your gut will turn. And for perhaps the first time in your life you will be where you truly belong and this magical place will welcome you home . Blessings to you on your search and remember what you seek is always seeking you too.. ~Kathleen
There are only black bears in this area of the US, and they are usually pretty shy. Like most back-country campers, I do carry bear spray and try to keep food smells to a minimum.
I am wondering the same thing. Been going there for 30 yrs.
That is a beautiful area love the lake in the camping site. New subscriber Jeep Wave

Great to hear your thinking...I agree but I'm still tempted by the paddling access to the Saranac river.
