The thing about the handmade rifle is you can upgrade it to look like a full AK and not a rusty hunk of metal with random holes cut into it.
It’s honestly my favorite gun because of how it transforms from
“I welded this together while drunk on cheep vodka” to “I welded this together while drunk on expensive vodka” and it’s really cool to see.

The lewis was not watercooled. The barrel jacket is aluminum and with fins contacting the barrel. The jacket finn combo acting as a "Light weight" heatsink" and also the temperature differential (between the barrel, fins, jacket and air) draws air through the fins AFTER firing (when barrel gets a bit too hot to touch). Very efficent for a single aircooled barrel. No easily replacable barrels though and it makes it very heavy (13Kg / about 28 lbs) without the ability to take 100-200 round belts. It was more portable then the vickers/ maxim watercooled mg though.

In this game the "assault rifle" was originally supposed to be a LMG for power armor users who didn't want to use the heavier minigun. Also the Lewis Gun was air cooled it just looks like a water cooled gun because of the barrel shroud that protects the cooling radiator fins.

With FO4 Assault Rifle, the reason why it's so cursed is that it's an actual regression from previous guns in the series. There were already M4s, M16, ARs and AKs, so creating such a bulky and unwieldy infantry gun that isn't a designated heavy LMG is silly to say the least.
And to the topic of use in Power Armors, those used heavy weaponry such as Gatling Guns, Granade Launchers, Flame Throwers, AA Guns and more. Giving an equivalent of a walking tank a rifle instead of a turret feels redundant...
Tho, must admit that Paul is probably the first person i see who doesn't crap on it and instead looks for some reasoning behind its existence which is admirable.

    • @TheArklyte

Considering that there is a silencer for said "assault rifle" that says that its uses 12.7mm ammo, that the receiver length is scaled for 5.56x45mm ammo and how it was intended solely for PA use before AK/"chinese assault rifle" was scrapped until DLC, I ended up viewing said gun as a weird mix of:
1)MG-131(german 13x64mm "light" HMG designed to be used in mounts that previously used rifle caliber machineguns. It did so by compromising on cartridge length>propellant>kinetic energy. But in return also had fantastic rate of fire. It relied on powerful HE round) and
2)ASh-12(russian assault carbine in 12.7x55mm designed specifically to use subsonic ammo to be silent and at the same time have enough firepower to blow open steel doors, destroy engine blocks and penetrate any type of body armor).
So it's low profile, shreds armor at close ranges where its ballistics don't compromise it and is still useful at longer ranges due to lots of explosive filler in bullets.
And there IS a reason to give a weapon that is "too small" to PA troops - to be used as sidearm in PA mode and as PDW when you have to bail broken armor. Though usually it would be portrayed as SMG or carbine. Or, well, PDW. Said weapon needs to still be somewhat effective against same targets that you face when you're inside PA though. _So having armor piercing capabilities and high stopping power is a good thing._

    • @konradzukowski213
      @konradzukowski213 Рік тому +4

@@TheArklyte That's probably the most logical explanation for existence of this gun...
But one issue I personally see after reading your comment is how often those guns can be found in game.
While it might have been created as a PA secondary/PDW outside of the PA, usually with such specialized weaponry comes small amount of them in use. Because of their specialized nature, usually the amount of them is kept small in order for the enemy not to use them against you/reverse engineer. And in the world where people are forced to create home made guns, highly doubt they were able recreate it in such large quantities.
But at the end, we're still talking about the gun that was clearly created by devs with one intention, but was repurposed for one reason or another.

The Makarov takes massive inspiration from the PP series of pistols. Makarov was designed in 1948 and entered service in 1951. The Walther PP was designed in 1929 and entered service in the German army in 1935. I stopped the video at 11:52 to type this. Edit: 380 ACP was designed in 1908 and the 9X18 was designed in 1946. Just like 7.63x25 Mauser was designed in 1896 and 7.62x25 Tokarev was designed sometime around 1929-1930 and it's patient case was the 7.63X25 Mauser.

will post what I said about those weapons again.
the combat riffle in earlier version of the game was chambered in another caliber and changed last minute to .45 ACP (some of the game guide material still refers to the combat riffle as having .300 ammo or 5.56 and is modules whit that bullet in it.
the assault riffle still is called LMG in the files to this day and the art book refers to it as a machine gun that was supposed only used by power armor, super mutant and my guess but scraped for technical reason maned turrets.
11:00 wasn´t there talk about the US army themself getting a modern designed Propeller plane because the man hour per flight hour on a jet is insane.
like the US Military could spend milion of US dolar to send up a jet fighter to fly over and strafe a truck whit a gun worth 5000 USD (total time 30 min) followed by 6 hour of maintenance.
when that could sent a prop plane to do the same thing for maybe 5000 USD and 1-2 hour of maintenance work afterward.
20:00 the reloading thing is a engine problem the engine can´t really handle diffrent animation for if the gun is empty or not.
yes there is mod that solved it but to put it like this said mod used way to much scripting to get the level action to reload properly then was needed.

Yeah, your thoughts about how the AR could have been designed for power armor use are all good points, except that Bethesda was unwilling to restrict player freedom in the strangest ways in this game. They could and should have made certain heavy weapons exclusive to power armor, you just cannot use them without wearing the armor. But they didn't, and thus you have a minigun and water-cooled LMG that someone with Strength level 1 can wield as easily as a pipe gun. It's honestly bizarre, because in Fallout 3, you couldn't wear Power Armor without training, so it would just sit in your inventory unless dropped. I guess the idea is that Nate, the male character model, was a soldier and thus trained in power armor (but it doesn't explain how Nora would be able to use it too), but since they refused to make heavy weapons require the PA, your points are rendered moot.
Maybe it was designed for power armor, but alas, it was not.

Don't let this put you off modding, there's even an in-game hub in FO4 supported by Bethesda that lets you install mods from there (NOT to be confused with the Creation Club, the horrible mod service where you have to pay for it). @MHGR I think he is pulling the PPSH-41 aesthetic from the stock, the rest of the combat rifle and combat shotgun look more similar to the Browning Automatic Rifle (BAR), it is just the stock and the back of the assembly where the top and back of the weapon systems have a curved top plate aesthetic like the PPSH, but overall is pretty much designed like the BAR in appearance.
Edit since I am going to edit as I watch: the Assault rifle in Fallout 4 probably has either one of or a combination of these helmet modifications within them such as radiation scrubbers, sensor arrays, internal databases, recon sensors, and a targeting hud, given the armor is build partially resistant to radiation, you can further have it improved with an a lead plating and like r some of the russian armor of the past, do titanium plating as well, and the armor you may be wearing underneath like your standard combat rig could be asbestos lined, well in Fallout, you still wear metal plates for armor so you can have it asbestos lined, but it can also be lead lined as well as to try and absorb and mitigate the damage from heat and radiation, the legs of the armor can have optimized kinetic servos and calibrated shocks to better deal with impacts with landing on the ground. But moving on, the Fallout 4 assault rifle having those AA gun iron sights are probably to make it easier for the system within the helmet to have better acquisitions of the sights and when need be, apply a reticle overlay over the iron sights for better accuracy when firing at individual soldiers, given the Chinese in Fallout did have aircrafts as well, having the AA sights on it wouldn’t be too bad with the assisted targeting system within the power armor. So the Fallout 4 assault rifle having a water cooling jacket plus a bit of m249 body aesthetic is to probably increase the mass to have a place to better grasp the rifle with the meaty mechanical hands of the power armor, as for the magazine, I can’t recall if this was right or not, but couldn’t the M249 also accept stanag mags, the same kind of magazines that the M4 use and any stanag compatible magazines such as magpul mags designed for M4 platforms. The reasoning being that if you don’t have time in a firefight to reload a whole belt or you don’t want to be lugging around all that ammunition on the weapon system itself, having a magazine inserted instead allows for it to be lighter and faster to use or if you just ran out of belts you can still take ammunition from your squad or team just by them passing you a mag. By in the case of the Fallout with power armor, you could have a bunch of drum magazines and if you run out, your team still have normal 20 to 30 round magazines (given some weapon systems also have a smaller 20 round magazine made for them as well, if I recall the m1a1 Thompson had a magazine such as that made for it as well for WWII. The magazine port being on the side would probably be preferable for someone using bulky power armor since with power armor as meaty as that, unless you some decent gaps in the armor like in Warhammer as to allow for more flexibility and dexterity, then for Fallout power armor, you can’t as easily reload from the bottom less you risk moving your weapon system away from the target or in their direction at least when you reload or maybe you need to look down to make sure you put the mag in and have it properly seated and everything given the hands of the power armor is mechanical, it isn’t armor that goes over your hands, it is an extension of your hands, as mechanical armored limbs, so there may be a delay in its use like how the trigger pull of a bullpup is pretty delayed and far back before you may fire while your more common type of firearm may have a more tight and crisp trigger. So like bullpup the armored mechanical hands probably have a bit of delay to the user unless there is additional systems and sensors in place to shorten the user command delays and feedback and whatnot. Side loading pretty just makes it easier for really bulky power armor users. It could see it less in raider power armor since it is a little less bulky and extends out less than your standard T45 power armor and and more so the aesthetically upgraded version known as the T60c since the the T51 has a pretty flat chest relative to the other power armor models, the raider power armor has a flatter chest relative to the T60 power armor so you have better ease of use for your hands and arms in such power armor, but given it is raider armor it is ramshackle and isn’t up to the same quality as military grade production power armor pieces. But going back on topic, I believe that is the case, more specifically it was probably designed for users of the T60 power armor, given it was under research, testing, and was under partial production, and given it wasn’t completely rolled out yet it was spread to limited use until more could be produced, but however, given it wasn’t completely rolled out, that is why you see T45 and T51 more prominently seen in the other Fallout games, which took place in different parts of the US.
Moving on to the Deliver pistol, I think the guy is somewhat right, given the Walther PPK is a pretty small and snubbed pistol, I can see parts of its design being Walther PPK inspired but its color palette and other observing carefully other parts of its design also show a bit of a makarov pistol inspired in its design as well. The grip where the magazine is held is more angled like a Walther PPK and it’s pretty snub nose looks like that but that aside, the rest look more like a makarov pistol to more.
Not much to say on some of the later weapon systems in the video, but for the AK, that cut out hole on the top doesn’t really affect how the weapon system operates, that top cover is just to keep dust and debris out, though it isn’t necessarily needed for it to function, you can fire an AK without the top cover, you could probably do the same with an M4, having parts of its body exposing the internal assembly of it but as it’s designed, the system is more enclosed of a system unlike the AK, so if it can better keep debris out, though should debris actually get in, it could cause issues and failure while the AK could clear it a little more easily do to it being more simple and rugged.

The volkssturmgewehr isn’t full auto, while it would be possible to convert to full auto, these rifle were designed to be cheaply produced towards the end of the second world war. People get confused because it has sturmgewehr which means assault rifle so they think it means volks sturmgewehr people’s assault rifle. But it’s actually volkssturm gewehr or the home guard rifle. The direct translation “people’s storm” basically means Home Guard which was the German militia army. Mostly known for being closely associated with the SS and hitlers youth, having sometimes near suicidal fanaticism towards the party and would publicly attack “defeatists” civilians, and for executing a lot of prisoners. One of their most infamous being the Gardelegen Massacre where 1,027 foreign prisoners who were unable to March that were being evacuated from nearby camps were stuffed into a barn and burned alive. A number of prisoners escaped by digging under the barn and most of them were shot by the SS standing guard as they ran away. The Germans were caught before they could cremate the remains by the U.S. 102nd Infantry Division.

You seem to have fallen into a misconception about WW1 tanks. While pretty much everyone made awful armoured vehicles and tanks, the British got it right with the rhombus shaped tanks. The tracks travelling the full length of the tank's shape allows it to me easily traverse the muddy terrain of the western front (and cross trenches far more easily), and the side sponsons allowed the tank to shoot down both sides of the trench it was crossing. The later FT17, with engine in the back and in a completely separate compartment from the crew along with a proper turret certainly was the future for tanks, it wasn't the tank for the war it was fighting.
In short, operationally the rhombus tanks were utilised horribly (at least at first), but was definitely made for the war being fought.

I hate the "Assault Rifle" so much because it tries being multiple guns at once. There's a lewis backend, a maxim frontend, a SAW grip. it's atrocious.
The point about the gun being water-cooled doesn't even work. Near the breech it has the open cooling jacket and radiator fins of the lewis gun, which is air-cooled, but the front is sealed like a water jacket, so it can't draw air through like a Lewis does. It's a schitzophrenic design that deserves every bit of criticism it gets.

7:10 why not just slap a longer and thicker pistol grip on already circulating LMGs and GPMGs the US military has?
Cuts down cost enormously as you only need to shove something up the grip and fasten it to the already numerous and reliable machine guns you have, and send new power armor shipments to the frontlines with a few crates of the new LMG add ons for the boys on the field or just tape the custom grip on the right hand with a note explaining what it is. This also has the benefit of leaving these power armor modified machine guns _still useable_ by regular infantry.
Rather than spending a billion+ to design a From The Ground Up new weapon *_only_* meant for power armor that is battle untested.

Talking exclusively about the Fallout series, Bethesda proven themselves to be bad game makers. 3 gets somewhat of a pass for being the first. But 4 and 76? Pretty inexcusable.
The best 3D Fallout game is objectively NV, and it wasn’t even them who made it. Obsidian made it in less than a year if I remember correctly? Yeah, *some* assets are reused. But a lot of other things? And the story? The ability to complete the game without killing anyone?
I have a lot of nostalgia for 3, though some of those memories are undoubtedly viewed through rose tinted glasses. I still play 4(albeit heavily modded) to this day. I never even bothered giving 76 the light of day.
And it’s honestly making me cautious for Starfield. I really want it to be good. Im hoping. But I will be exactly 0% shocked if it’s bad.
