I almost never play as spy (I'm a Sniper main) and sometimes when there are many spies in the enemy team, I just use the Razorback, which means the spies cannot backstab me as long as it is there. Then when a Spy comes over and I start losing health quickly, I then realize that I forgot Spies also have guns. This overconfidence has gotten me many times. Maybe Valve should create a secondary that can resist bullets.

Oh and here is a Quick tip, once you sap a Teleporter stand on it so if the engineer fixes it will teleport you and most likely telefrag the engineer

Or a hoovy is even better if the other team doesn't kill them. They will just walk up to you. Say thanks. And walk away allowing a good stab or two. The down side is this tends to be a one shot deal and can cause people to kill the real hoovies just in case.

It's a pretty risky move, considering that the engineer might not even be on the teleporter plus you'd be teleporting right into a nest, not very safe. I guess it's based off the situation

Also when decloaking, do it as far away and sneaky as possible. If you decloak right behind someone, they will mostly likely hear the decloak, turn around and kill you. Decloak around a corner, a place where nobody is going to check or when it becomes noisy that even experienced players won't hear it and if you do have to decloak behind someone to get the backstab, make sure nobody is behind you otherwise the person behind you will kill you or inform that a Spy is behind them and kill them then.
This goes double with the Dead Ringer.

A mistake you didn't mentioned (well, maybe it's because it's not so 'common'): *Check and try to memorize the other team classes.*
In name of the fair play, it happened to me sometime to warn the spy of the other team, typing something like:
*"Red Spy, stop changing into a blue Scout. WE HAVE NO SCOUTS in our team."*
You don't know the ultra-agressive spy style.
You don't use the dead-ringer for invisibility, only too sponge damage, bait out surfs, and use the speedboost for closing the distance for trickstabs.
Disguise is basically useless besides fooling sentries, so you almost never use it.

The mistake most spies do is not use the revolver, this really powerful weapon. Some of them try to get a trickstab with a low chance of success and other just run away. If you are close to an enemy with his back turned, contantly walking forward, with the same speed don't run forever and try to get a stab, just shoot...it's useful especially if the enemy is low in health. You have the advantage of being unnoticed by this enemy until now. He's walking straight forward so the first two shots are not much big of a deal to aim. Add one or two shot to get the kill or none if is injured enough. By running behind the enemy for a long time you are severely exosed and an other enemy can interupt your stab. That will save you time and a kill that can be important.
Inversely, don't overly use your revolver. Even if you're using the Ambassador. Most of the time they're to help you get out of tight spots... like a Pyro about light your ass on fire because they got you cornered or are chasing you.
Techhunter Talon I say this because I see a lot of spies only using the knife it's rare to see a spy only use de revolver.

The best tip is to simply not look at the enemy when disguised. With over 2500 hours in TF2, I catch pretty much all spies in matches because my teammates seems oddly more focused on me than the enemy behind them.
Rather than charge at the enemy headfirst, do things like back peddle in their direction to get behind them. Or if you are tracking an enemy, keep them in the side so of your screen, not the center. You'll be amazed how much less you're shot at.

That's actually similar to bot behavior. If you've ever filled an enemy team full of bot spies on your server, they might not give convincing disguises, but they will walk backwards in an effort to get behind you without looking suspicious.
Its true cuz when you see a teammate looking directly at you its 90% chance that its spy. I have been using that method for i dont even know how long. As a spy main i recomend you this. (sry for bad english)

Tip for taking out sentry nests. Sap the entrance of a tele and stand on top of it. Most engies take the sapper off while standing on the exit. By standing on the entrance, you'll teleport as soon as the sapper goes and you'll telefrag the engie, leaving the nest free for the sapping.

I have an extended tip for #6.
Learn the other classes. A good spy is able to imitate their target. Play them for a period or 4 and get in the mindset, then take that knowledge into the spy class to do the action you KNOW won't get attention.
Picking your disguise is one thing. BEING your disguise is another.

Done right you can actually use one spy to cover another with the Dead Ringer. Possibly making it look like you had multiple Dead Ringers happen in succession. Or if you can catch your enemy off guard and pop the cloak in the right spot.

Since they forgot the one mistake every class should have, here it is.
Mistake 11: Wrong loadout.
Simply put, read the situation of the match and plan accordingly. If you are using the Dead Ringer, then maybe consider bringing along the L'tranger to help recharge it faster or if you're using the Big Earner, then maybe consider bringing along the Diamondback to capitalize on the quick chain stabs with critical shots. This does not end at just your loadout though, say if the enemy team has a Gunslinger Engineer, take the Redtape Recorder to counter him. Think about it, a Gunslingineer wouldn't stand around repairing his mini sentry, he'd just build a new one since they are cheap and fast to make, the Redtape counters this as it takes longer to destroy the mini sentry, wasting the Gunslingineer's time. Alternatively, if the enemy team is very fire focused, Pyros, Huo Long Heavies, etc., bring the Spycicle since its main purpose is to sacrifice itself in order to make the Spy fireproof for a few seconds.

About the 8th mistake and the disguise kit. Is better if you choose advanced disguise kit in Advanced Options this makes you use only 1-4 numbers to disguise and converts the reload button (r) the button that changes between teams. It's a lot reachable than the (-) key located in the last place of thenumbers row and with a bit practice becomes second nature.

Yeah, Jack Wu is right. It's neat to be invisible for forever, but if you have to wait five minutes before the sentry nest is exposed, just go do something else. The spy's main job isn't to be the engineer's worst nightmare, if the nest isn't exposed or is pocketed by a pybro, just leave it to the friendly neighborhood demoman to wreck the nest while you stab some annoying snipers elsewhere.

You don't have to do that, Just disguise inside the spawn before You cloak, as you are cloaked, Leave the spawn so no one might have noticed

Love that even when I was just starting out in this game I didn't make any of these mistakes. Also, first stair stab as a spy feels freakin amazing!! XD
2:25 it's false the angle is the same you just have to look at the weapon orientation (this shows where the crossair is pointing). In the footage you show, the degreaser is slightly turned to the right this why you had the possibility to stab in the left side and not at the right side. The important thing to notice is when the weapon oriention of the enemy and the line between you and the enemy forms an angle superior than 90 degrees (+near the enemy and a good internet connection) your stab is successful.

Disguising out in the open isn't a problem, it's a problem when someone sees you disguising~
If the enemy team's distracted by an uber or teammates harassing them then I see no problem in doing so~
The examples you gave did show the smoke effect when mid-cloaking but could've been better, no spy should really be going towards an engy nest with a pyro protecting it and two other people alone in the first place~
Stair stabbing & trick stabbing in general should only be done as a last-ditch effort when there's nothing else to do or the players you're up against are idiots, otherwise a competent player will just look at you, I don't care which way you're facing, I know you can press the s button at any moment... unless I have a phlog, in which case players seem to be incapable of walking backwards, only complaining~

The cloak & dagger "spectator" technique as you call it, is viable, you're capable relaying information to your team if you have a microphone, you can tell them where their medic went, if they have uber, where most of them are, how many sentries they have and where, etc~

What about never disguising as Scout because the enemy can tell you're a Spy judging by how fast you're going compared to a real Scout? Even disguised as Scout the Spy can't match his running speed to his.

You ever been on the receiving end of a face stab? You'll be looking almost straight at the Spy and they'll get a 'backstab' on you. Which, to the player it looks absurd and doesn't seem to make sense.
but #2 isn't a facestab but a trickstab/sidestab, meaning it doesn't always look like a facestab to the person being stabed.
The left side being better than the right side is absolutelly not true, and this as nothing to do with facestab. Facestab depends on the lantency of the two players and the one from the server.

Unpopular opinion, but I feel like TF2 players should have some sort of guidelines on how to HELP their own spies; like if you see them about to make a play to not run in and spook everyone
When using the dead ringer, I like to disguise as a friendly, go to the frontlines and get my ringer triggered, act like I'm hurt, mostly scout disguise because of the head hitbox being missplaced. When your ringer gets triggered, you can easily go to the enemy backlines.
Especially if there are a lot of large ammo packs, like on barnblitz, last point. You can cause so much damage and distraction, which could be just what the team needs. And with 3 large ammo packs on barnblitz, they can't kill you.

Heheheh in x10 mode i disguise as scout right after dead ringer triggers because it makes you the speed of a scout for 10 seconds and in those 10 seconds i get tons of kills lmao
