@Kolegu Go for the 550D. Canon is slightly ahead of the game when it comes to videos. Besides, the D90 only shoots HD(720p), the 550D shoots full HD(1080p).
@Kolegu D90 has better noise performance, and slightly better photo quality even though it has less Megapixels than the 550D. but the 550D kills the d90 when it comes to video
Only moderately informative, but very entertaining! Love your very English accent, as well (and I grew up near Oxford so I know a thing or two about English accents).
because if you are using a tripod the lens does not know that and it could interfere with it. Also i think for some of the IS lens it creates a undesired sound when on
I almost bought Tamron 18-200mm lens for my camera. It wouldn't have been good at close photography as it would bend the image and it would be rubbish at distant photography with no IS, it really makes photographing easier at zoom over 200mm. So I chose Canon 55-250mm IS II, I hope it will deliver.
Why didn't you try the mode 2 stabilization? Most L lenses with IS auto detect a stable tripod, and so it probably was switching on and off and being confused because of the jerky movement. Wouldn't mode 2, for panning, be more effective (and actually activate the entire time)?
If the lense or sensor moves then surely some of the image must he getting cropped ? Imagine the projection on the sensor or the sensor racing around the projection. Am I correct?
I can't believe you did that, even with a crappy Canon! If I tried that, with my D5500 and f/2.8 28-70mm, the lens would snap off. In fact, I'm worried that if I take my left hand off the lens for too long, it will snap anyway!
@@RubtsoffAccordion that Nikon was stolen in a burglary, I now shoot a Sony HVR Z5N. I always preferred shooting video anyway, hence the D5500 with classic lens combo.
You should have asked for STIG to do the test runs :P! BTW idk what to choose between D90 and EOS 550D... or should i wait for the D90s??!?! or what they will produce as a replacment for D90?
I feel like I wasted my 6mins watching this.. he just run like a lunatic and I got the answer that I was looking for at the last 40 sec of this video..
So would it be a waste of time if I bought an actual video camera, bif I were to use a 650d with stabilization lens. I would save a lot by that. By the way love yo video's alot
Bike helmet with straps should do the job. I use it every day! Also, dolly's wheels are pretty poor. They should be lager diameter and with rubber tire. Funny video, thank you. What about lens vs in-body stabilization (or both)?
LoL, the dolly/tripod test was pointless, but was worth the laughs. Optical Image Stabilization is ineffective when attached to a dolly / tripod. That goes for any Camera or Camcorder. You'll need a decent gyro to dampen sharp vibrations.
please HELP i am looking to buy a canon 70-200 2.8. I currently have a canon 70-300 lens($200) and i have no problem using it without the IS. now is it worth it spending the extra $1000 for the IS version of the 70-200 2.8.? P.S. i shoot a lot of sport
2:20 Sony handycam (very shaky) 5:11 IS on vs IS off on dolly (less shaky but without much difference) 5:31 Sony camcorder vs IS on vs IS off handheld panning shot. (IS on is the best but without much difference) 6:00 IS on vs IS off handheld shooting ( IS on WIN)
@ParkersTutorials I laughed when I saw your comment... I laughed even more when I saw it was YOU! Hahaha! Parker... You think he doesn't know that? Wow.
You guys need to stop saying mean things about this guy. He is trying to help and autism is nothing to joke about. I am sure his parents are very proud
I love how Kai and the team get to do all that, just to best explain in the last 10 secs....
Love it.
Fantastic !!!
The last example opened my eyes!
The last seconds of the video showed the real power of IS, you should have made that sequence longer.
@Kolegu Go for the 550D. Canon is slightly ahead of the game when it comes to videos. Besides, the D90 only shoots HD(720p), the 550D shoots full HD(1080p).
This is hilarious, all proof that I need to see is about 10 seconds at the end of the video. Thank you!
90% of the video shows content that we don't care about. And you show almost no comparison. Despite that, thanks for the test
not sure if IS is off or if cameraman has parkinson's lol
When he ran with the 1st camera, the lens was closed! Wtf
OLegendStudios haha yeah
thanks. my connection is so bad at the moment, you probably saved me at least 10 minutes!
Look at Hong Kong in 2010, crystal clear water and skies.
I was out cycling on that day! SAW u filming this video!!!
Interesting video!
@Kolegu

but the 550D kills the d90 when it comes to video
Ur probably on my top 5 channel list
yea, this is one of my fav videos @digitalrev
lol, racing with the dolly. good stuff Kai!! luv these vids. can't wait for teh next one.
Brilliant video you crazy human
That Gambon Corner you almost lost it, but you kept it together!!
I feel like this guy is bluffing that he speaks English and knows colloquial phrases... it's really weird.
Kai, you changed so much in the last two years.
From talking "not-really" become "oh, s**t!"
And others...
Only moderately informative, but very entertaining! Love your very English accent, as well (and I grew up near Oxford so I know a thing or two about English accents).
I like your videos / tests with Canon.
Thank You.
kay has the best job in the world, thumbs up !!
Anyone else watching an Asian Jeremy Clarkson? You gotta love it!
because if you are using a tripod the lens does not know that and it could interfere with it. Also i think for some of the IS lens it creates a undesired sound when on

aw man and i always thought lok has godlike hands to keep the image that steady when filming ^^
I support you and like every single video I wach with you guys! Awesome channel.
Now I might have to buy something from the website to keep these video coming :)
Another great item! Love it ...
Always hilarious. I wonder what the passersby must think when you're up to your antics!

according to dpreview, digital IS creates smooth footage, but it also sacrifices some detail on the video images
digital rev, keep on making more videos!!!
If the lense or sensor moves then surely some of the image must he getting cropped ? Imagine the projection on the sensor or the sensor racing around the projection. Am I correct?
Seems essential to know, maybe I should google it.?
Awesome test !
I think it depends on how long the length you use. The shorter you use, the less shake you will get
damn !
old but gold !!
Great Test
great video, what kind of mic do you use? the thing on you're shirt
I can't believe you did that, even with a crappy Canon! If I tried that, with my D5500 and f/2.8 28-70mm, the lens would snap off. In fact, I'm worried that if I take my left hand off the lens for too long, it will snap anyway!
Crappy Nikon.
@@RubtsoffAccordion that Nikon was stolen in a burglary, I now shoot a Sony HVR Z5N. I always preferred shooting video anyway, hence the D5500 with classic lens combo.
@@RedPillRachel Oh, I'm sorry. The camcorders are good.
Great video! Thanks!
Sounds great....who's Daniel?
Great review!
another awesome video!

2 years Anniversary of this video.

Has anyone noticed, hw the guitar melody that always comes when they build or destruct something is the same like the one in Quatar airplanes ....
so why would we turn it off, or even have a switch there in the first place. Can someone explain that to me?
Way to go Kai - you almost lost the camera! @4:00 ROLF!
Bike helmet with straps should do the job. I use it every day! Also, dolly's wheels are pretty poor. They should be lager diameter and with rubber tire.
Funny video, thank you. What about lens vs in-body stabilization (or both)?
I miss this guy
how different will the picture be with IS and without IS
LoL, the dolly/tripod test was pointless, but was worth the laughs. Optical Image Stabilization is ineffective when attached to a dolly / tripod. That goes for any Camera or Camcorder. You'll need a decent gyro to dampen sharp vibrations.
Does the IS benefit photography?
Did you make sure the handycam and DSLR were the same weight? I bet not. It will affect the size of the vibrations on that dolly!
Well done.
please HELP
i am looking to buy a canon 70-200 2.8. I currently have a canon 70-300 lens($200) and i have no problem using it without the IS. now is it worth it spending the extra $1000 for the IS version of the 70-200 2.8.?

whats the dolly attachment on the bottom of his tripod?
that's not what IS is for. It's not for running around on bumpy surfaces. it's for handheld shots
He shoulda dressed like the stig when he did the laps lol
help!! can anyone tell me what the thing that he turns his focus/zoom is called?
Is it worth to goolge it?
What is your camera man's primary lens/camera body for these videos?
2:20 Sony handycam (very shaky)
5:11 IS on vs IS off on dolly (less shaky but without much difference)
5:31 Sony camcorder vs IS on vs IS off handheld panning shot. (IS on is the best but without much difference)
6:00 IS on vs IS off handheld shooting ( IS on WIN)
Image wise DSLR are the best video wise. What would u suggest me to do?
So the Sony camcorder was there to....?
Maybe next time you can make a video VR vs IS
Love your share ! I wish i can see u in the real life ^_^ . I am vietnamese , you are my teacher
I need water!!!!! lol I was nervous for your camera lol
Some say, he can shoot Macro with his pink Nikon from Earth to Mars, and his favorite song is the Vuvuzelas one. All we know it's Kaaaiiii!
How does ka feel about sony slrs

what is that wheel called? i wanna buy it!
Love digitalrev
the biggest possible compliment of kai is "it's alright" :D
I like .... "but she's sheeting :P"
5:56 is what you're here for. The video is entertaining but that's where the real test is.
What lens do you guys typically use to shoot video??
Awesome!
YOU ARE THE BEST ....
@ParkersTutorials I laughed when I saw your comment... I laughed even more when I saw it was YOU! Hahaha!
Parker... You think he doesn't know that? Wow.
New top gear track?
Nice comparison :)
was waiting for him to say "around chicago"
Ok thankyou very much
There is a DigitalRev sticker missing on Kai's /beatiful/ hat :3
Enough exercise for the whole week.
You guys need to stop saying mean things about this guy. He is trying to help and autism is nothing to joke about. I am sure his parents are very proud
This is a joke right?
good review kai!!! nice to see how some technologies work:) xiexie:)
Whats Top Gear?
Whenever i watch this video, i always regret to ought the 24-70 f/2.8 and not the 24-105 f/4
@chillersfather Digitalrev is basically the Top Gear for cameras.

1:43 I really thought that the bike will hit his as he is talking about safety
