Porsche Rennsport Reunion Day 2 was great. I spent a little bit of time with the R Gruppe owners to discuss their cars and modifications....Some good, some bad. Rennsport Reunion 2018 did not disappoint.

That 1982 SC Targa Safari looks mean!
A great place for inspiration and motivation. Perfect timing too.
Thanks for the coverage of the event.
Great coverage of the festivities!
A great video - truly appreciate the detail and inside scoop.
Insofar as ignition goes, you might want to look at the '123 ignition' system - it allows the ability for modern tuning in a vintage package.
Thanks Dan! I will check that out. Today's video is more of the same.

Keep them coming!!!!
Yep tomorrow I'm going to hit the vendor area and pick their brains a little bit! Stay tuned.
Sorry I wasn't there to help you with the interview. Some of the names are mixed up. The original owner/builder is John Goriup. The Weber carb guy is Paul Abbott/ Performance oriented originally from Texas but now in Oregon. While John's car is very thought out and built well, there are dozens of members that have equal of better finished cars. I don't want to get in trouble with the guys calling his the best. That is not what I meant. John's car is just one of the many extremely thought out builds in the club. The main thrust of the cars and club is that it isn't a competition or car show. The individual owners build what suits them and if they find that others have the same passion about old Porsche hot rods then they have found a home. Weed-man is the pronunciation for Weidman. (at least that is the way a Swede pronounces a German name).
Thanks Harvey for all the corrections....so many cars and names to keep track of at Rennsport, ha ha. I totally agree that all the R Gruppe cars are special in their own way and I don't want to say this one is the best either. Thank you for taking the time to explain these cars. I'd like to do a proper interview in the future if possible. It was a pleasure meeting you!
Mechanical advance and carbs keep you tinkering, I enjoy it!
Yep, I hear that! Either way it's going to be DIY for me, ha ha
Keep it simple, I’ve spent way to much on expensive carburetors and fancy ignition parts, only to build a car that’s barely drive able on the street. I do like the first car, really nice and clean, the exterior door handles are neat, and a nice touch.
Yes, a great car all around. Tonight I will show the modern alternative. No decisions made yet.
"He said Harvey was a funny name."
A lot of people are going fuel injection on classic cars lately. It has become available at prices in the range of good carburetors, What has kept me from going that route is how comparatively simple it is to understand oldschool carburetors. If something isn’t right, you can usually figure out what’s wrong. With a computer... not so much. But that’s just the way I see it.
I like carbs too, but I also like the better driveability of EFI especially as altitude and conditions change. It's not unheard of to carry an extra ECU to limp home if need be. I will be well acquainted with all the inner workings of this EFI system, plus like with modern cars it tells you what is wrong.
Issue is the price of the management system, not just the FI system itself and then getting someone to set it up. Seems not much more than carbs, but it ain't. Buy Motec and then install and spend some time on a dyno. In the end it is worth it; if you can stump up the cash.
