Hope you all enjoyed this look into the Warhammer 40K universe. I tried to research this as much as possible but if I got something wrong let me know! Cheers again guys.
I think you got the spires wrong. Made it sound very idealistic. Its not. For instance you dont get free power. And you dont get assigned there or assigned living space. It tends to be that everything there is as expensive as can be. It also just so happens to be that everyone who lives there is loaded with money beyond belief. That or have the authority to kill everyone on planet if they happen to feel the urge to. Also the bits about power usage are kinda odd? The use of power in the lower parts of the hive are going to be less about energy costs, and more about not understanding technology and not being able to get a tech priest to give you the machines you need. I mean dont forget, even something as simple as a wall switch to turn on a room light is going to require religous ritual to create and install.
Also the excursions into the under hive by local PDF forces typically arent attempts ate bringing law and order. Sometimes they are. But sometime its for training, to give PDF forces combat experience and keep them sharp. The clearing out of criminal elements is just kind of a bonus.

I will say, I’m fairly certain that give cities were the invention of the imperium, as every dark age settlement I find in reading the novels does not resemble a hive city in any way shape or form. As for the electricity thing, the spires aren’t free, the people living there are just so rich that cost is a non issue. And in the lower give they have electricity, it’s just a matter of if it stays working. Their tech is very old and run down, and with not tech priests to repair it light can get kinda scarce.
@@nikik5567 Well, the problem is that there is no real canonical origin to most hives. Thing is, some hives do originate from and before the dark age. You also have to keep in mind that the dark ages spanned a couple of thousand years, so it is possible for a dsrk age settlement to start out as a small town and then end up as a massive hive some 3000 years later.
They are not really poorly made. They are very uncomfortable and lack amenities but they are also very reliable and durable. They can last for thousands of years with some basic maintenance.
They can withstand ground quakes and planetary bombardment.
The construction itself is very solid it's just everything else that sucks.
Which is exactly what they need, no sense in making pretty and comfy if it will be destroyed right away.
Not always, they have "Hive Quakes" where instability in the structure itself causes a phenomena thats closer to seismic events than structural collapse, whole sections, including spires can topple. The only reason they can resist orbital strikes is the immense void shields, far stronger than even many warships have. Some hives do have armoured exteriors but this is often for protection from the environment, storms of caustic chemicals or razor sharp dust - or both in windspeeds that are closer to tornados but in storms larger than hurricanes.
That armour can protect them from tactical strikes from orbit but wouldn't last long under a strategic bombardment. Those weapons can break up a planets crust, even without specialised Exterminatus weapons like Cyclonic Torpedoes, only void shields provide any measure of protection from that.
And thus began wisefish maddening decent into becoming an exclusively 40k lore channel

Dear god, I don’t think I could ever live on a forge world. Or a death world for that matter. Yeah hiveworlds aren’t that bad compared to some of the places mankind lives in 40k
Chaos forge worlds actually make elite necron troops hesitate on their battle plans as the Dark Mechanicus has literally managed to demoralize true ai enemies, something necrons are purely based on during their soul transfer as next to all necrons have NO soul!
I just think of Kreig and what it must be like to live there and I genuinely shudder

Eldar, Tau, and other intelligent races would be disgusted and horrified at the living conditions of hive cities. But hive cities is where the Imperium grow their armies.

@@davidfrancisco3502 It is a crime. You do have to kill someone in order to eat them meaning you have commited murder. Plus cannibalism is right next door to some chaos stuff so law enforcement tries to crack down on that. Now, does it happen in lawless areas and do people get away with it? Sure all the time.
@@GusOfTheDorks The main food source for the inhabitants Of the low hives and underhives is something called 'corpse starch'. It's a gruel made Of recycled organic matter from all kinds especially processed human dead bodies.

It's worth noting that Astartes Chapters regularly recruit from Under Hives which is one Hell of a rags to riches story. You go from being at the literal bottom of society to being outright worshipped by most Imperial citizens.

It's a daunting universe but I hope you do more WH40K lore. A good example is Armageddon its an industrial Hive World dedicated to pumping out armoured fighting vehicles from Chimera IFV to Heavy Tanks like Baneblades also their own Imperial Guard Regiment the Armageddon Steel Legion the atmosphere is so toxic they have to wear gass masks hell there's an area so toxic you can step foot in it unless your in an armoured vehicle and there's also the fact Armageddon is host to numerous volcano so many that when they erupt its called the Season of Fire.

@@WiseFish Well, Ive been posting a few of the specific things in your pinned comment where I go into detail on what exactly. So you can look there for exacts. I think the big over arching problem would be that you tried to draw concrete conclusions on a topic that tends to be pretty fluid. There are literally hundreds of thousands of hive cities in 40K, which makes definite statements kinda.....not effective. I think the only things you could really say about all hives is that they're giant, have tons of folks, and rich people tend to live on top. Aside from that taking specific looks at indavidual hives is a little better for getting the flavor of what they really are.
You should cover the Exosquad
40K is hilarious cuz the Imperium are like "EVERYONE'S OUT TO GET US! :C" and then the Imperium is doing shit like this, everywhere, all the time, and it's like ...Yeah they should be???
Do all the primarchs each one has to be plus 2 hours or so
