  • Hey guy, check out my tutorial on how to upgrade your Duro to a sapphire crystal! It’s an easy process as long as you have the right tools. I have links down below of where you can find all of the tools you’ll need.

    Thanks for the video! I just changed my duro over to a domed blue AR sapphire crystal. It looks fabulous. The only issue I had was getting the crown and stem out. It went back in easily enough later. Next project will be a ceramic bezel insert if I can find a nice one. Cheers mike

    Very nice mod and although the sapphire crystal is not far from the price of the watch, it’s well worth the extra cost. I have the black and gold Duro on a Bond Nato strap and it’s a seriously nice, unpretentious watch but would love it even more if they made it in 40mm. I wish that all watches had a sapphire crystal and I’m sure that most watch enthusiasts would pay the extra for sapphire.

      I agree with you, if it were a 40mm case it would be unbeatable. And yeah I think it’s worth then investment for the sapphire despite the price.. plus you can always get the $18 piece of sapphire from AliExpress instead

    Had to put the AliExpress flat sapphire in my Duro due to my clumsiness dropping it face down on the ceramic tile bathroom floor and smashing the mineral crystal. Had it done by a local jeweler as it was cheaper than buying all the tools to do it myself. Although the sapphire and repair equaled the price of the watch, it was worth it as I'm quite fond of Duros.

      Also the marlin Duro is no longer made so it's best to preserve it.

    The flat sapphire reflected less glare from the partial ceiling lighting, the dome sapphire captured the reflection of the whole ceiling lighting, the glare was too bright. Flat one is better. Thanks for the demo!

    Great video. As an amateur watchmaker, I'm enjoying your channel. One suggestion is to also replace the crystal gasket when replacing the crystal if you want to maintain the original water resistance rating. If that is not a concern, then reusing the original crystal gasket should be fine.

    • @otte
      @otte Рік тому

      Is there a gasket for the crystal on this watch? Saw a lot of these crystal replacements no gasket mentioned.

    • @mtbbiker6401
      @mtbbiker6401 Рік тому +3

      @@otte I haven't done a Duro, but I've done a bunch of other watches. There has to be a gasket otherwise there's no way it could be rated at 200 meters. The gasket is usually a plastic ring that sits in the case. You never see them on videos because they never remove the rotating bezel in order to access the crystal gasket. Honestly I would never trust the water resistance after a crystal replacement unless the correct crystal size and gasket size are used and then only after a water resistance test. If you don't plan to swim, then no big deal.

      @@otte If you don't plan to swim with the watch, then don't worry about replacing the crystal gasket. That would require you to remove the bezel which isn't the easiest thing to do.

    How can i be sure that it is still waterproof 200m after the swap?
    What masurements does the crystal need to fit the duro?

    • @watchinout8832
      @watchinout8832  2 роки тому +1

      There’s really no way to be 100% sure that it will still hold up to it’s water resistance rating, but as long as you put some silicone oil on the O ring, it should be more than fine to swim with. The measurements I don’t have on hand. Check out the “Just one more watch” channel. He has a video of this crystal swap as well, and I believe he has measurements. Or take a look at the crystal size in the link that I posted

    Le verre saphir OK mais je crois que le nouveau bracelet est encore plus laid que celui d'origine. Mais c'est compliqué sur une Duro car on ne peut pas mettre trop cher pour être cohérent avec l'esprit de cette montre.

      If the movement is seated properly then the stem should go right back in no problem. It has to be lined up perfectly though. Definitely don’t force the stem. Keep fiddling with the movement carefully until you can properly slide the stem back in
