As an old fart, it still amazes me that there are some people who have never heard these songs. I enjoy “discovering” them for the first time through your experiences. Great video.
10 years ago my wife developed cancer and this was one of the songs on my playlist that I couldn’t listen to anymore. This, and Wild Horses. She survived and recovered and we now have 2 grandsons that she got to see.
The older I get the more I appreciate Lynyrd Skynyrd they really had it all together. Today's music holds nothing on this great and I mean great band . The musicians were at the top of their game concert after concert never missing a beat God I miss the original Skynyrd rest in peace ❤😢😢
This was written by Lead singer Ronnie Van Zandt about his one-time girlfriend named "Tuesday," like the actress Tuesday Weld. This was such a great band.
LOL Theres going to be a lot of gen z people that are going to say Tuesday WHO. A beautiful blonde from the early days of tv.. She was dobie Gillis love interest in The Many Loves Of Dobie Gillis !!!! More who's can be heard .....
This was also used in the movie DAZED AND CONFUSED but many of us just grew up with this on the radio once every couple of days. The 70s and earlier 90s were the best times to listen to FM radio.
This rabbit hole is so deep. Try CALL ME THE BREEZE, WORKIN' FOR MCA, BALLAD OF CURTIS LOEW, I AIN'T THE ONE, WHAT'S YOUR NAME, SATURDAY NIGHT SPECIAL. So many to choose from and they are all fire! 🔥
@@bcholio The "revived" Skynyrd started in 1987 I think. Brother Johnny on vocals; not even close to Ronnie's vocals. My opinion. I did get to see Leon, Billy, & Gary perform; they were great. Those guys have all passed away now.
When I was in high school we had a Team Rolling Stones vs Team The Who. A few years later we were debating Allman Bros vs Lyrd Skynrd. Both were essentially ridiculous debates, because the reality is both teams were winners - we didn't have to choose!! And now 50 years later we're still basking in their greatness. 😂😂you are a LS fan! I recognize one when I see one! Love love the talent and the music for years! Sweet Hime and gimme three steps( I love the story they tell 😊
I'm 42, I saw my dad cry two times in my life. I was 14 driving up front with my dad in the station wagon. This song came on, he started crying, and when he saw me notice him, he said this was the song that was played at his best friend's funeral when he was 17. I'm the oldest, and he said, "please play this at my funeral." Thankfully he is still alive, but I know what song I'm supposed to play. Everytime I hear this...I get weird and want to be left alone. I love you dad.
You are the music reviewer that I love to watch the most. I was lucky enough to have grown up during this era of the best music ever, so I like to see other’s reactions to it. I love that you read the lyrics and can get emotional about many of the songs, and you appreciate the way music was done back then… nothing fake about it. 😊
RVZ was amazing, and I still miss him to this day, and I love all of Skynyrd, but one person who doesn't get his due, and his joining the band from being a roadie ascended the bands sound in a major way, was Billy Powell. Exceptional piano player!!
👍 Time keeps on ticking... Fall of '73, my cousin opened a record store. (remember those? lol) I installed his audio system in the store. My other cousin, his brother, had just come from seeing Lynyrd Skynyrd open for The Who's Quadrophenia tour in Atlanta. The 1st record played on the system was Pronounced, the 1st Skynyrd album. After being blown away by Free Bird, we played Quadrophenia. Memories
Tuesday is his girlfriends name in the song. After the plane crash the lead singers brother Johnny Van Zandt was recruited to be the lead singer. There is another brother Donnie that is a member of .38 Special. The two brothers teamed up to record a couple of albums. I like Help Somebody and Get Right With The Man from those albums.
90 percent of their recordings were taken in one take. They practice their songs until perfection and then go to the studio a lay it down. They didn’t have any money and wanted to hold down cost. It’s great you pick up on how tight the band was playing.
It is heartbreaking and honestly kind of weird how very many music legends were lost in plane crashes. Skynard and other great ones like CCR was 100% my music of choice as a kid. And i saw many of them live. Legends.
Beautiful, beautiful song. It's an amazing and somber feeling all at the same time thinking that if you just change out the name, you feel like the band made this song just for you. I lost my wife to cancer five years ago to cancer, so thank you Lynyrd Skynyrd for writing "Mila's Gone". Train roll on.
I'm 26 and skynyrd wad the 1st band that really made me find music and deep dive around the age of 17. I was lucky enough to go and see skynyrd several times before Gary passed. Listening and watch him rip into those legendary slides sent chills up my back. Also watching the crowd some how ooze with this calm, excitement, and appreciation. Was magical.
There are so many Skynrd songs that are outstanding! Deep cuts that you don't hear that often. Mr banker, swamp music, all I can do is write about it, and made in the shade, are just a few. "You got it made in the shade baby, don't let that tree fall down on you"!!
Always been my fav. Skynyrd song. Girls back in the day used to be Tuesday, some people thinks he's speaking about a woman leaving him on Tuesday. (Tuesday Weld is a famous actress from the 70s).
About the "old reecording" thing. Analog tape had its drawbacks, but analog recordings retain some of the warmth in the sound of the music that can be heard when you're in the same studio/room with the band. Digital recording has some great advantages, but it generally lacks that warm sound.
This is song writing at its finest. Funny how all the best songs were written in the 1960s and '70s. And before anyone says there are good songs written today, that's true. But you have to dig for them and it seems garbage songs are embraced by today's audiences as if there is no difference between bad writing and good writing -- and singing and performing. In the 1970s we were hit with timeless masterpieces almost every day of the week. I can make a list if you want.
This song is in Dazed and Confused and it’s set to the end of a late night outside high school kegger and it’s a perfect song for that moment. For us that lived that in the 80’s it’s so bittersweet it hurts.
A lot of bands suffered losses, mostly due to drugs or plane crashes...We had a shift in music style from "rock-a-billy" to "rock & roll" with the plane crash on February 3rd, 1959 (the day music died, referred to in "American Pie") when the "Big Bopper", "Ritchie Valens" & "Buddy Holly" died...Off topic : check out the "JOYO15WDC-15S" amp...
Check out "Sweet Home Alabama" one of their biggest hits. After the deaths of a lot of the original members, they re-formed in 1987 with Ronnie Van Zant's younger brother Johnny singing lead. Fun fact: Ronnie Van Zant never wrote down his lyrics to a song. He memorized them.
I appreciate your takes on the music and your healthy drinks, but as a 70yo boomer I have to tell you... We were all stoned, drunk & or high while we listened to all of this music. Live was the only way to hear this. At the time you could smoke up on the floor, do 'shrooms, mesc, have your girl carry wine inside her bag, whatever. It was a scene. No one bothered you. It was a one time ever chance to hear the greatest musicians of anyone's lifetimes. None of us appreciated what we experienced. We all thought that this was what musical entertainment would always be. Fantastic music... on the floor of a coliseum with a blanket... rockin' your average (for the time) favorite jams. IMHO the last great concert was the 1991 Monsters of Rock concert in Russia - epic!!!
When this recorded there was no such thing as a digital sample so if you wanted to add strings you called In session musicians. I confess to being old but there is a lot to be said for actual musicianship!
Song is about Ronnie’s divorce from his First Wife, it became final on a Tuesday… Their producer Al Kooper played bass guitar and Robert Nix from the band Atlanta Rhythm Section played the drums
I am in Alabama and grew up in a musical family. I have two brothers and a husband who are musicians. This was one of the top songs they would play at the bars followed directly by "Jesus Just Left Chicago" by ZZ Top...perfect duo. You ought to listen to that one. It's epic!
LS didn't screw up they used to get in fistfight's when they screwed up practicing at Hell house 12 hours a day if not longer. They were probably the tightest band in concert. Just an amazing band!!!!
This is my husband's favorite LS song too. He very much dislikes Sweet Home Alabama, because of over play in STL. He discovered Tuesday's Gone from Happy Gilmore too. I was raised on all these eras/genres of music. Check out *Ballad of Curtis Loew, there's a poignant message in it.*
Having grown up inJacksonville all my life, and listening to Skynyrd from the beginning (yes I’m THAT old), I can honestly say this is the first time I have ever heard someone use the phrase “listening to Skynyrd, pouring myself a latte”…!!😅😮
There are quite a few songs that use the name or word Tuesday, such as Tuesday's Gone, Ruby Tuesday by the Rolling Stones, the Beatles lyrics to She Came in Through the Bathroom Window, "Sunday's on the phone to Monday, Tuesday's on the phone to me." There is a band called The Real Tuesday Weld. There is some speculation that Tuesday weld is the inspiration behind most of this, and in the case of the Beatles lyrics it has been verified by at least one account. She was sort of a free-spirited rebellious nymph of an actress--a very good actress--and developed a cult following. Playwright and actor Sam Shepherd called her the Marlon Brando of actresses. In fact, she is my favorite actress, mostly her work in the 1960s up through 1970. I have a close-up shot of her from The Cincinnati Kid (1965) when she was about 22, as my iPhone wallpaper.
Sebs, I'm here to support you, but let's face it, listening to some Lynyrd Skynyrd doesn't hurt. 😊 Only bad thing about all their songs is they are all too short.
I love Lynyrd skynyrd. They came out in my late teens and I absolutely fell in love. And I'm still in love to this day.. I'm going to have, aAl I Can Do is Write About It, played at my memorial service. YOU SHOULD CHECK OUT JEFF HEALEY, SEE THE LIGHT, NIGHT MUSIC 88. You will not be disappointed
My second favorite band... only because of Led Zeppelin being my favorite. They have a deep rabbit hole with some stellar deep cuts. Love them. Check out these, Needle and the Spoon, That Smell, Mr Banker, Four Walls of Raiford,
I remember the day the plane crashed my best friend and I were playing in the yard and his dad came outside and told us what had happened but out of the tragedy several other great bands came Molly Hatchet , Blackfoot , and Rossington Collins band which was made up of surviving members of Skynard
I know many of us say that "this band or that band, has a deep rabbit hole" but.... Skynyrd doesn't have a single bad song. Some might be better or more familiar but they are all great! So many "deep cuts" could/should have been singles and hits! "Four Walls Of Raiford" "Was I Right Or Wrong" "Cry For The Bad Man" "Things Going On" "Searching" "Double Trouble" Like i said, EVERY song! "Coming Home" "Preacher's Daughter"
Dude, it was the 60s and 70s, Tuesday was her name. I dated a girl named Jupiter. I called her jupe for short. We saw the Skynard live at least 10 times in the 70s.
You need to go down the Skynyrd rabbit hole - you won't be disappointed. Next up should be something off of their Street Survivors album, which was released days before the plane crash. I suggest "That Smell," "What's Your Name," and "I Know A Little." Their live album, "One More From the Road," has great versions of their songs and some seriously good covers of "T For Texas," "Call Me the Breeze" and "Crossroads."
In the late 1970s when I was about 30, I lived for a couple years in a college town, in a downstairs efficiency in a four apartment building that had poor sound insulation between the floors. There were four college guys in the efficiency above me, and I could hear them clomping around every time they came down some stairs, and one time they were playing loudly what turned out to be Lynyrd Skynyrd when I was trying to relax. I had never heard of Lynyrd Skynyrd, and it is not my type of music anyway. I went upstairs to ask them if they could turn it down a little, and I mistakenly said that the bad loud music was coming through the floor strongly from above. Now, I couldn't get any real quality sound from that so to me it was bad music, aside from the fact that that I don't like that type of music. However, one of the four guys got very agitated saying it was Lynyrd Skynyrd and it was not bad music, and clenching his fists at his sides. One of his flatmates had to put his hand on his shoulder to calm him down. I said, I didn't mean to insult their music, it just sounds that way coming through the floor, or, something. So I escaped without getting beaten up.
Thank all that it is good that we have a record store nearby. There is something soothing about being surrounded by all that music. I am working on building up my album collection to pass to my son and grandchildren.
This here were a tight bunch of talented folks, very significant southern rock Gods🤘❤️. Major part of my youth along with foghat and of course the beatles
You should here it from the live album “One More From the Road “ Skynyrd was the consummate live band imho, I was blessed enough to see them three months before the plane crash and I emphasize on Blessed!
Another good song of theirs or two songs does that smell and need and spoon. I think those are the 2/ first anti-drug songs that’s been out. That smell is a song written about Gary Rossington and Alan Collins. It refers to Prince charming talking about Gary.
As an old fart, it still amazes me that there are some people who have never heard these songs. I enjoy “discovering” them for the first time through your experiences. Great video.
As an old fart as Wei, I second that emotion !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
From one old fart to another, I feel the same way.

My second favorite band... only because of Led Zeppelin being my favorite. They have a deep rabbit hole with some stellar deep cuts. Love them. Check out these, Needle and the Spoon, That Smell, Mr Banker, Four Walls of Raiford,
Billy Powell hitting those keys! I really miss those guys. Going to a Skynyrd show was an experience I can’t explain. I guess you had to be there.
I remember the day the plane crashed my best friend and I were playing in the yard and his dad came outside and told us what had happened but out of the tragedy several other great bands came Molly Hatchet , Blackfoot , and Rossington Collins band which was made up of surviving members of Skynard
Great song and reaction
Good choice. It's my favorite Skynyrd song too.
I know many of us say that "this band or that band, has a deep rabbit hole" but.... Skynyrd doesn't have a single bad song. Some might be better or more familiar but they are all great! So many "deep cuts" could/should have been singles and hits!
"Four Walls Of Raiford"
"Was I Right Or Wrong"
"Cry For The Bad Man"
"Things Going On"
"Searching"
"Double Trouble"
Like i said, EVERY song!
"Coming Home"
"Preacher's Daughter"
Great concert-there are times I'm happy to be old as dirt 😊
Dude, it was the 60s and 70s, Tuesday was her name. I dated a girl named Jupiter. I called her jupe for short. We saw the Skynard live at least 10 times in the 70s.
Im lovin 'Every Mothers Son'. The live version from the 'Old Grey Whistle Test' concert.
Check out Chris Stapleton doing southern rock when he was with The Jompson Brothers, "Invisible" is an awesome song that most haven't heard.
Blasted this with the windows rolled down leading my great grandmas funeral precession to the grave yard. Great song
Probably don't realize but This band also did the breeze. Give me 3 steps. sweet home Alabama..
I was born in the 50’s and saw many cartoons. The music they used was classical! So we learned about all musical genres! ✌🏼
TY They have been through so much
In the late 1970s when I was about 30, I lived for a couple years in a college town, in a downstairs efficiency in a four apartment building that had poor sound insulation between the floors.
Curtis low is another good one
When you said it your favorite and said this is the one it made me think of their song ' I ain't the one' 😆
This here were a tight bunch of talented folks, very significant southern rock Gods🤘❤️. Major part of my youth along with foghat and of course the beatles
Gimme three steps, Saturday night special, Swamp song, and so many other great songs from Lynyrd Skynyrd
You should here it from the live album “One More From the Road “ Skynyrd was the consummate live band imho, I was blessed enough to see them three months before the plane crash and I emphasize on Blessed!
This was also in Dazed and Confused. Great song!
Another good song of theirs or two songs does that smell and need and spoon. I think those are the 2/ first anti-drug songs that’s been out. That smell is a song written about Gary Rossington and Alan Collins. It refers to Prince charming talking about Gary.
Love this song!! ❤
In regard to the plane crash in '77, check out the song "Brickyard Road," a tribute from the reformed band to their lost bandmates.✌️❤️
Favorite Sebs? You haven't heard "Call Me The Breeze" or maybe you have.
