I love the scene with Yoki and Envy, it's one of the rare moments when Scar is part of a comical situation. And he's such a serious character that it makes it all the funnier :D

I feel Winry's little smile was from seeing the effect Ed has had on others during his travels. How those he's run into or knows him, even briefly, think fondly of him. Probably some level of relief, that even though they don't know where he is in the moment, his influence lingers on. That's just me though, I'm a hopeless romantic lol
yeah also actually good realistic characters that dont immediately get jealous which Happens so much its goddam annoying at this point more so in anime but in everything else too

I miss a dialogue that was in the manga and not in the anime in Hohenheim and Alphonse's reunion.
When they see each other, they both comment at the same time:

It's so much better than just them looking at each other and saying "Hmm"

@@alessr17 The only direct interaction Hohenheim has had with the brothers since he left before the mom died is when he met Ed in episode 20. Al was back in Central "recovering" from Lust's attacks.
Why did he buy the armor in the first place if he was "immortal"?
You know what I really love about this show? They don't just FIGHT the bad guys. They have actual conversations with them and the scene between Bradley and Hawkeye is exactly what I mean. Bradley legitimately wanted to know Hawkeye's opinion. Then you have the conversation Bradley had with Ling in regards to what it means to be a leader of a country. and THEN there's the best one in a later episode that really shows just how well written this show is! Those of you who have already watched this anime know EXACTLY what I'm talking about.
Oh yeah for sure. This show is the absolute pinnacle of dialogue in general tbh.

Marcoh had one of the most badass moments, trying to right an unforgivable wrong he did by disassembling one of his horrid creations by his own hand.
The thing Envy really shouldn't have done, is he shouldn't have let Dr Marcoh cook. Never let an enemy alchemist cook.
Envy and Jelousy are also known as: The big green monster, and the little green worm.
I love the thought process that went into Envy's forms
In the last episode. Pride told Kimblee to use Bridges strength to your advantage. Hench he fooled The invading people to attack. Cause he knew they would get crushed easily. And do what he was told. Carving a crest of blood
20:40 my read on Scar sending Mei home has always been that now that they know the whole country is a ticking time bomb, he wants her to get to safety. It fits with his character arc and makes a fair bit of sense from his point of view.
12:52 marcoh IS an alchemist, it is something that goes unnoticed since we never see him use alchemy until now but he is an accomplished alchemist with his own area of expertise and is part of a research team that made a philosopher stone
He was singlehandedly carrying the healthcare of an entire town when we met him. With a Stone, granted, but still, he is an expert in medical alchemy even before the specialized research.
He was also the one that transmuted one of the chimeras in his holding cell into a fake corpse of himself. Probably with some help from Scar to scatter the blood more convincingly. But along with his healing in the town, this was all offscreen.

the whole point of Envy, is that his "true look" is small, pathetic, pitiful. He looks like the most unneeded thing ever, and from his point he IS envyable of others and because of that he tries to be "better", "stronger" than any of them by becoming and looking what he isn't.
Which also explains why he constantly points out what he seems as issues with people

In the previous episode, Kimblee said the Briggs soldiers were strong. Envy said "Use their strength against them". Kimblee then went to Drachma and told them to attack Briggs. Kimblee told a lie, and said he had people on the inside who would disrupt Briggs when the fighting starts.
This is the only time outside healing people you get to see Marco use alchemy, but the dude is skilled. I absolutely love how monstrously effective that attack is too, like it seriously dropped envy's stone to the point just before breaking.
I was dreading this episode... the loss of Yoki still hurts me to this day😞

When Winry smiles and Al starts making fun of her expression (about Ed) it's a little revenge on Al's part, since when they met May at Briggs, Winry also made fun of Al with May.
Those little details make the difference, how Winry and Al's beautiful relationship is shown, it's a true brotherhood.
By the way, no one could have said better words in honor of Yoki, rip.

Wrath talking about his wife ❤ Doesn't matter how many years pass, when I see him the phrase "But I did choose my wife" will always te first thing in my mind.
It doesn't matter who dies, as long as enough people die. The enemy army, the Briggs soldiers, or the ones that were sent from Central... if anything at all happens at the wall, Father wins. This is why his plan to have constant wars everywhere was ingenious.
Its implyed that Envy grows the more biomass and souls he has, so the little worm form is just the part thats entirely himself his own soul and body, everything else he took from others, be that the people of xerxes or of ishval (btw Envy seems to be one of Fathers earliests Humunculi, we know pride was first but its unclear weather or not Gluttony or Envy where second as these two are both connected to Xerxes, with Envys many heads supposedly being the ones from the Xerxian people he consumed and gluttony has parts of Xerxian architecture in his stomach)
Regarding the May situation, you forgot she is a princess and that Xing is a country specializing in Alkahestry. So her words carry weight and they can perform tests on the "immortal" she brought back. Not only can they easily find that it was made via Alchemy, it even talks. So even if it does not guarantee them to learning about immortality, it is still a step in the research and that is all she needed to get ahead of other clans (unless others provided something more)
On Scar's part, they don't have time to help her more nor do they want her to intervene more when she has her own issues. So calling it a day would help everyone.
Scar is well aware of the shit that is about to start going down. Beneficial to May or not, he knew he had to get her out of there before things get really bad, she is just a kid, and furthermore, given his own dedication to his people he probably feels strongly about her own purpose and putting an emphasis on helping your own first. He's learning though.
Hoenheim left his sons when they were very young. When he was still living with them, he was very insecure about who he was and how they would see him if they knew just what he was. It's a strange irony in that the only thing he ever wanted in the world was a family to love, and yet when he finally got one he became too afraid of their rejection to properly be involved. Trisha seems to be the only one who ever really understood and accepted him in a way that allowed him to be who he truly was. Given how long he's been away from them he likely feels even more convinced of his son's resentment towards him and probably embraces it as it is more comfortable to his nature. It's easier for him to accept the idea that he is hated as it lets him keep a safe distance without the risk of being hurt himself. People are weird like that.
Ed and Al are both very different in terms of personality though. Edward is much more bombastic, straightforward and even blunt about his feelings, whereas Al is a bit more calculating and subdued. One could say Ed's sentiments often become the forefront of the brother's attitude given how much more expressive he is and people just presume they are of similar mind and views given that they are brothers. Also things are about to get really good.
Fun fact about Bradley's wife
If you remember the episode where Ed and Al first meet selim in the library and go to the Bradley's house his wife tells them that she slapped him on either their first date or when she first met him because of something he did
Coincidentally because he never had actual human relationships before he went to lust and envy for dating advice which would explain why she slapped him
And thats why (i guess) that bradley chose her like his wife. Miss Bradley is a woman strong and brave.
I love the thought of young Bradley going to his older siblings for dating advice only to end up asking the worst one (I believe it was Envy, since Greed hadn't met Wrath before Dublith) and getting horrible advice thus messing up when actually talking to a girl 😂😂 it's so mundane for creatures like them but it really makes them better characters.

One of my favorite fights in this whole series. Envy is one of my favorite characters for just how awful they are, and to see the tables turned on them so thoroughly is so cathartic. And even so it's not a cake wake to defeat them. It's such a good fight and as someone who read the manga first I really appreciate how the anime did it justice.

In case Envy using Yoki's body parasite style wasn't enough of a hint, Envy isn't quite done. Remember, there's another character trying to hunt them down...
Made me think just how scared shitless all Homunculi should be of Marcoh, since he doesn't have any "special" abilities like Ed, Al or Izumi. So his anti-Stone transmutation circle can, in theory, be taught to other alchemists, turning them into living anti-Homunculus weapons. With that in mind, I can really understand why they were searching for Marcoh all this time and kidnapped him so early in the story in the first place. As well as keeping him locked down, isolated and intimidated, with an entire town of hostages. Marcoh and Mustang are probably the most dangerous alchemists for Homunculi just based on their skills.
Kimbley's plan seems to be to get the Drakma soldiers to be the sacrifices for the blood crest that Father and the homunculi have ordered him to do. It doesn't seem it matters exactly who is sacrificed for these blood crests, just that they are made and that many lives are given to it. And, that plan would work out better than attempting to kill the Briggs soldiers himself since he didn't have much in the way of support at Briggs, and they have proven to be well skilled.
I think he plan originally was to use the Briggs soldiers but when he gave his report to pride and pride said to use the soldiers strength to his advantage, he then switched gears to manipulate Drakma.
The cool thing about Hawkeye answering honestly when Bradley asked how she felt about him being a humunculous is I think it would've gone down the same way if it was Ed, Al, or Mustang. It's like an open secret. All the cards are on the table, and everyone is on the same page as enemies. But because of Father's plans, they know they can't do anything to each other. It's like both sides are just waiting for the shoe to drop. And they all know its just around the corner. Great way of building tension.

Scar though very blunt was completely correct imo when he told Mei to go back home. Envy while weakened is still a philosophers stone since he hasn't completely dissolved like Lust did, it would guarantee immortality and increase favour for her clan which is tipping on the edge of disappearing into obscurity. Mei has exactly what she came to Amestris for, a philosophers stone, and she no longer needs to be involved in the conflicts of a country that has nothing to do with her and is on the verge of an event that may put her in needless danger. Scar openly taking into account somebody else's best interests is a small exchange but also huge bit of character development, most of this episode starts to showcase the changes Scar is going through. From a man filled with understandable hate to a man slowly releasing himself from the coils of it and seeing the lives of others around him desiring to attempt to atone for his crimes, perhaps turning to a state reminiscent of the man he was pre-ishvalan war.

This episode for me was the CMoA (Crowning Moment of Awesome) for Marcoh.

I think the big point that Olovier has against Louis is that he simply did nothing. If he had actually _done_ something, fought on the side of the rebels, shelter Ishvalan Refugees, _anything_ she would not be so harsh with him. (to be fair, he most probably would also be dead, but I have a sneaking suspicion that olivier is the type that would choose death over disgrace)

I love that moment for Marcoh. He's not a combatant, but still manged to take down one of the homonculi with strategy and knowledge. The one that had been tormenting him at that - if anything, that torment is how Marcoh knew what buttons to push to get to Envy. And it's a big step in his attempt to atone for all the philosopher's stone he created.
Marcoh being that much of a threat also gives a good reason of why Envy kept breaking him down and psychologically bullying him. It doesn't matter how dangerous someone is but they don't have the will to oppose you.
Yeah, as Pride said: "use their strength". The wall is a near insurmountable obstacle... and the soldiers aren't much easier, so give them a target.
You think THIS is intense? Wait until episodes 53 and 54. THOSE are intense!

I'm not sure if you're confused on this or not, but if you are, remember Bradley and Greedling are the only of the seven sins that started as actual people and were fused with philosopher stones that came from Father. The rest of them were basically split off from Father, so they were never their own beings. So Envy didn't start off as a little green worm that was then turned into a homunculus, he was the envy that was severed from Father, and his physical appearance resembled a worm. Marcoh destroyed the philosopher stone so now Envy's basically got one life left, but he's still Envy.

Technically speaking, anyone can use alchemy. Essentially in order to do it, you need a Fundamental Understanding of the Biology/Construction of the object your manipulating.
For example. To Separate Water from Mud, you need to be a Scientist to know the 37% of it is Water while 63% is Dirt and Stone.
Drawing a Circle, and having this Understanding. You can Deconstruct it, Separating and breaking down Atoms within.
Than you build it back together into a form you desire. So for example. Force the Atoms in Water to turn it into Ice, or Harden the Mud into Stone.
The reason why alchemists are a big deal is this is essentially a step away from being god XD military alchemists are especially good because they can use this process efficiently, like how we see Mustang or Armstrong fight. Essentially they're Professionals where as others are like still in College. Think of it that way
The array needs lives. Doesn't matter whose. Kimblee chose the lives of those weaker than them.
Episodes ending in 3 are not episodes envy really enjoys themselves XD
At this point in time Hoenhime has completed his preparation and given his declaration. It's not yet time for the final battle, leore needed help, and he was already there. Yeah he could have sought out Ed and AL, but realistically how was he going to find them? No one who isn't presently with either of them knows where they are, he'll they don't even know where each other are right now. Also Hoenhime has been gone 10-13 years (its never explicitly stated but context clues leave it somewhere in that range) and baised on his previous interaction with Ed he is under the impression they want nothing to do with him. So he trying to respect their feelings decided to help out leore in his free time instead of trying to find his sons. AL and Hoenhime have a pretty decent chat in either the next episode or the one after, you'll get to see what's happening with Ed soon too. From here on it starts really ramping up. Also I loved the random re-introduction of lizard dude too it has been like 20-28 episodes since the first greed incident so it's kinda out of the blue, but he's got an important roll to play here soon himself with Greeling.
A gag they sadly left out of the anime is this exchange when Al and Hoenheim meet:
Al: Dad!?
Hoenheim: My old vintage armour!?
That Marcoh Power Move is so amazing. As someone whose created so many Stones, it makes sense for him to know how to destroy them as well (Creation and Destruction, the Two side of the Coin that is Alchemy).
The Greatest Weakness of the Homunculi would be Him since his power would literally destroy their source of power and life. The Nerf on him of course is that physically he’s weak so he’s never gonna get the chance unless you’re cocky like Envy.

It didnt matter which side left the crest of blood, just that it happened. With the state alchemists, they could easily take over any neighboring country and most would surrender without bloodshed once they see what they can do. But they need the battles to happen in specific areas so they will usually weaken their forces in that area so that they arent as strong as they could be so that the enemy would be more willing to attack thinking they have the chance.
The crests of blood need not be Amestrian dead, just that a significant amount of destruction and carnage soak the land
Exactly. They have literally been doing this exact same thing for hundreds of years. Doesn't matter _who_ dies, just that a massacre occurs in the specific location. Same as with Ishval. They were the crest of blood for that area in the east.
In FMA 2003 the boys have a different reunion with their father. They and a group of Mustang's men approach the Rockbell home and find Hohenheim of Light having a sort of innocent "date" with a blushing Maria Ross at a table on the Rockbell front porch. Ed reacts as you might expect, Brosh is furiously jealous, and Al... well once again Al nearly tears your heart out.
He's green with envy.
The show is going to get so insanely good in a few episodes I can't wait
-Gotta love Kimblee, the little shit. War is brutal and convenient for a crest of blood. If you recall, Kimblee said last episode the Briggs men were too strong to take down. So instead, he brought them an army to slaughter.
-I love that of all things, Bradley got to choose the one person who would be his greatest support, and she slapped tf out of him because he was an arrogant ass when they met. I just like to imagine him holding his cheek later around Lust and asking why he didn't hate her for hitting him and Lust just sighing.
-Marco specializes in bio-alchemy and we haven't seen him transmute since he was shown healing people of his village so I can see why you may have forgotten he can do it.
-So how the homunculi work it that a body is made by the stone of souls, but part of Father's soul is added to control it. Marco essentially released all the souls used to make the philosopher's stone to create it, so all that is left is the fragment of Father's soul he into it. The is the physical manifestation of what the "envious" part of him looks like: an ugly parasite that leeches off others to try and get what they have.
-Scar does have a point though. They're going to die if they don't give something to the emperor, and if Ling never returns (since he's a homunculus without control of his body) she'll be the only one to give the emperor something useful. Even if Envy isn't very impressive, he's an intelligent, inhuman creature that has insane alchemic knowledge. I'm sure the emperor would keep him as an exotic pet at worst, or interrogate him for his knowledge at best.
-BIDO my darling! We have seen him since episode 14! I've missed him. Good on him for having the courage to go look for his beloved boss even after seeing him lose to a monster like Bradley.
-If they hadn't started making receptacles for an immortal army yet after hundreds of years of this country being meant to destroy, I'd honestly chastise the military for not being prepared.
-A good way to think about Hoenheim's view of spending time with his kids is to think about how long he's been alive. Hundreds of years. A few years away from the kids probably only feels like a few weeks in comparison. Seeing Ed be as big as he was jarring for him, and I think it's because he just doesn't realize how long he's been away from them.

Olivier is super tough with Alex 😅poor guy. Also, that random character that mentioned Greed serves a major purpose! Keep your eyes on him. Hahahahah Hohenheim was being polite and helping out for the free food and it’s a town of need 😂.

Unfortunately I do not think Hohenheim ever considered himself as a good father. I do not know if you remember but he did said to Trisha (his wife and the boy’s mother) that he was too scared of him being a monster to be a real father for them. And it was a sacrifice for him to leave his family but he was already working on whatever he had planned to fight against father, that was for the good of his family as well as the country. It’s no like he could send a postcard to them every now and then saying « Hi guys I know I abandoned you but it’s to save the country, can’t tell you why right now but let’s catch up eventually when I’m done. Kisses » 😆. Beside, he is traveling as much as Ed and Al do, to managed to meet them again would be much easier by chance than if he actually tried it, it’s not like he could anticipate where they have been and where they would go 😅
The Homunculi have a philosophers stone as their core, so technically that would have been of value to May’s clan, but I also like to think that Scar wanted to keep May safe and out of danger

I think the original Plan _was_ to slaughtr the Briggs Soldiers, but with Kimblee weak and the suspicioun that the Briggs Soldiers are already on edge and weary of him, he pivoted to Blan B

I think the usual phrase for Envy, the word in general is that it is a small and ugly thing... so it fits Envy in FMA... as he's a small and ugly thing.
It would also explain his personality as well. Someone who is envious of another usually hates them because they want to be them. Envy is envious of humans, but he hates humans at the same time.

Hohenheim is a good person and loves his kids and is on a mission to save everyone, however he's the worst dad ever. One thing to keep in mind is that he is immortal and have lived for hundreds if not thousands of years so living with people and seeing them pass away over and over must have messed him up in terms of relationships.

Oww I'll be honest Hohenheim is a terrible father. He is doing what he has to do and he was trying to spare his family from that but from Ed and AL's perspective he just abandoned them. He left without saying a word, they have no context for why he left, he just left and never came back.
It must have been so painful for him to do that but the pain of his children will have been that much more even if he did it for the right reasons.
Sure, but I'd rather my children lived and hated me, than loved me and died. He was basically doing something only he could do, and telling his children would only put a target on their back. It doesn't make him a good father, but I wouldn't call him a terrible one either. He's basically trying to do the best he can given the circumstances, but he didn't account for his wife dying while he was gone.

There are the Japanese ones and the English ones. The English version has one opening for a generation, and that for the 1st and 2nd generation. The 3rd gen has one op for one season. But the Japanese version has multiple ops for a season in any gen. You should definitely check both versions out. But how do you figure making the emperor immortal is going to make you the next emperor? If the emperor is immortal, there won't *be* a next emperor! He's immortal, why the hell would he need a successor?
Mei is not doing it to be the successor, she wants her clan to be treated better so being the one to bring the emperor what he needs would be basis for the ascending in the privilege ladder at least a little considering they're bottom of the chain, she doesn't want to be empress herself. Ling doesn't want to give the stone to the emperor, he wants to either use it himself or figure out a way to make it useful without anyone absorbing it into their body, that way he does both boost his clan's standing and his own as a person/fighter. Idk what the other heirs are doing but we can assume none of them crossed the dessert, they must be finding other ways to gain favour.
@@laurainathunderstormYeah, it is mentioned in the manga that Ling has never even actually physically met the emperor. There is no parental relationship any of his dozens of children. And Mei outright admits the emperor is a selfish person who would do anything to get what he wants, so there's really no logical reason to prolong his life.
