      I think Dr Alveraz IS a proponent of gastric sleeve surgery. What he's against is the cheaper 'dummy version' that leaves staples in your stomach to cause problems later AND doesn't ACTUALLY REMOVE the grehlin producing stomach portion itself (IF I understood him correctly)!?

    Gastric Sleeve was the best thing I ever did for myself. In my 50s I really struggled with weight loss, high blood pressure, and pre-diabetic. Almost 8 years post op the Gastric Sleeve was the best thing I ever did for myself. Now age 67, I have perfect blood glucose levels, never hungry, never struggle to maintain a healthy weight. Best thing ever. I highly recommend this procedure.

    I'm in my 5th year of having the gastric sleeve. I only vomited once the second month when I ate too much too quickly. Believe me- you learn fast! I lost so much weight I tried to gain back 15 lbs; 137 lbs at 68" felt too skinny, personally. It took a year to gain back. I am still in a size 6 (from a size 18) and feel better than I have in years--especially when bicycling and clothes shopping! This is not a magic fix-all; it is a tool and should be used as such. My only regret is not doing it at a younger age (I was 46).

    • @KellieAnn71
      @KellieAnn71 Рік тому +4

      @@Sorour-s2t no. It physically cannot. The stomach does not regenerate; when it's gone, it's permanently gone. The reason you might believe your stomach has stretched is because if you begin overeating even a little, you get used to feeling over full, so you keep eating. That's why the "pouch reset" is a good tool; it causes your stomach to be empty in order for you to remember how it feels when you should stop eating.

    I had the lap bad in 2000. Damn near killed me. Took me 5 yrs to get someone to listen. The surgeon that did my lap band accused me of all issues I had as soon as I woke up. I have a lot of stomach issues with having had that procedure. Sadly, I can't replace what I allowed a doctor to do. This IS NOT an easy fix for weight loss and it ticks the body off.

    You rock, Dr. Alvarez! "One sleeve at a time......".
    It seems to me that sensible eating and increased exercise might be the cure for obesity......call me crazy!
    You have ventured into the realm of the neurotic, privileged people.....who are certain there's a way to augment their bodies to accommodate their feeding frenzies. Not likely,! And you explained the reasons why, so eloquently! Thank you!!!!!!!!
    .
    It's also important to recognize you mentioned "non self!".......putting any kind of apparatus into your body should alert the immune system to reject ! Immediamente...... If it doesn't, there is a problem with your immune system.......immunosuppressant drugs can ward off rejection for awhile. ....but, in the end.....
    Like Dr.Alvarez said, "It'll have to come out, eventually!!!!
    Amen!

    Those all seem way more complicated than the gastric sleeve. Simple is usually best and it sure worked for me.

    • @brandon17760
      @brandon17760 2 роки тому +17

      @Blake N that has nothing to do with the sleeve, it has more to do with the person being addicted to food. Skinny to average body types don't even have to worry about sleeves, or anything, we got to this point by being irresponsible with what we ate, getting a surgery won't change any habits, that's up to us. Sleeve helps you get to your weight, but after that it's on the patient.

      Brandon is absolutely right control is what ppl need to store in there brain many times we want more then we need

    • @bookerchris
      @bookerchris 2 роки тому +6

      Brandon seems confused to me. If the problem is addiction, then we are discussing a neuropsychological disorder. Choice has nothing to do with it. There is no moral judgment when someone gets any other disease. Being responsible or irresponsible is irrelevant. Addiction results in behaviors that the subject has no control over. It makes no sense to use the words "addiction" and "irresponsible" in the same comment or sentence. The sleeve helps people to reduce the volume of food they consume, which leads to weight loss. It is very simple. Let's not make moral judgments about people who are seeking help with their health. When I went to Dr. A's center, I never felt judged in any way shape or form and the surgery was a success. I still have work to do but I feel much better about the prospects of that effort paying off because of my sleeve.

      @@brandon17760 I gained weight due to medication and immobility after a serious RTA. I had a sleeve 19 months ago and lost 84lbs. I still have about 45 lbs to go but reached a stall 10 months ago and then gained a few lbs. I keep food diaries online that I send to my nutritionist & some days I just have protein drinks because I feel physically sick at the thought of food. I'm far from addicted to food and never have been, nor am I eating the 'wrong' foods (I can't eat slider foods, pasta, rice or potato & can't remember the last time I had anything remotely resembling bread. I also don't have a sweet tooth) so don't be so judgemental. Some of us are desperately doing our damnedest but it's still not enough!

No diabetes, blood pressure lowered etc. recently after a coughing fit from eating a chili pepper…my stomach pushed it way up through the band and is now laying on my diaphragm. Because I have gained 40 pounds in less than three months waiting for medical authorizations. I can barely walk because my stomach is so high up, that it’s like carrying a fetus. My plan? Since the lap band has worked for me 14 years…and I had never gained the weight back…I will be having it adjusted or replaced. I am in California where they still insert lap bands.

I found your #AskDrA section but there are so many episodes I don't wanna watch all of them to find out what your thoughts are on fasting. I know with a full stomach it is a good thing but with a sleeve is it recommended? How do I convince myself to go with this surgery since all I have is nervousness about not being able to eat or guzzle a tall glass of ice water on a hot summer day. If you see this Dr A I would love a response. I think in one video you stated that you or your hospital has done over 9,000 of these. Even if you're a patient of his could you comment on this. There aren't really any side effects with the gastric sleeve. No issues with malnutrition as long as you take your vitamins and eat nutritious food. You shouldn't vomit if you are careful with how much you eat. If you obey your stomach and stop when it warns you to stop, you will not have to worry about feeling nauseous or gaining back your weight. My highest was 235 lbs., lost down to 137 lbs., thought that was too low, and tried to gain back 15 lbs. It took a YEAR to gain 15 lbs. LOL
      It's normal to feel scared, but feeling healthy will be more important. Best of luck!

    I wish that I had seen your video sooner! I had an ESG 1.5 years ago and went from 188lbs to 152lbs. My goal weight is 135l. I still overeat sometimes without any consequences. I wish I did throw up so I'd stay closer to the 4 oz recommended for each meal. I see all these comments about the great weight loss and maintaining the weight loss for patients who had Gastric Sleeve surgery. Are they talking the surgery versus the Endoscopic Sleeve Gastroplasty? I thought that if I can have an Endoscopic procedure versus a surgery, that would be the way to go. I am so disappointed! Mostly in myself.

      The surgeries/procedures are just a tool. Alot has to do with changing your relationship with food. Some doctors offer guidance through dieticians to help and may prescribe something to help with overeating. ESG is very effective.
      The problem is you had no support after your procedure. Alot of doctors tend to just do the surgery/procedure and send you on your way with no tools or anyone you can call for help with diet. Thankfully some doctors are changing that.

      @@heatherbrowne2597 Thank you for your reply. I did have lots of support. I had regular appts with dietician, nurse, doctor and weekly visits with a therapist. I was stating that my food addition and comfort eating lead to my limited results. I wish that I did have bad physical response when overeating so I would have had the help of the negative consequences to help me.

    #askdra# if he states that if we introduce foreign things in our body it eventually has to come out, how is it in reference to the staples that are used and stay in there? Will they erode and need to be taken out?

    I had a adjustable lap band I would wish it anyone. It was done approx 14 yrs ago. I can't eat meat bread. Mainly a soft diet. If at that I can throw up. It never ending. To eat a sandwich or chicken breast not going to eat 2 bites well send me to the bathroom throwing up. Sometimes even ice doesn't stay down. PLEASE PLEASE don't have this surgery.

      I lost 35 lbs in the beginning. I had lost 125 on my own in approximately 15 months. I thought this would be away to lose the 50 I needed plus help control my eating. This my personal experience. I have no saline in lap-band. I can’t sit down and eat a meal. It wasn’t the answer for me. I’m addict to food. That’s the problem. No miracle surgery will change that. I wish you the best. Do your research.

      I had the sleeve done in Mexico around the same time some co-workers had theirs done here in the States. Mexico was a fantastic experience! Top quality care and excellent patient teaching for a week. I was teaching my co-workers because they had the surgery and were sent home after 23 hours in the hospital. Honestly, there's no comparison. Disclaimer: I used a different company, so I cannot attest to this one.
