My ex boyfriend Horace use to make this with white rice for my children and me and it’s delicious He didn’t buy with tomato sauce but ima bout to whip this up tonight i saw it in my local keyfood im Puerto Rican but i love me Jamaican food!!! Bless up!!🙏🏽🙏🏽 Thank you mama for this 🤍🤍🤍
I often eat tinned fish (mackerel, sardines etc.) straight from the tin if I'm very hungry, but this fairly simple, very tasty recipe elevates it to a different level. Thank you for sharing!
Made it for the first time and enjoyed. Quick, easy, and filling! Mine wasn’t packed in tomato sauce, so I added tomato and a little ketchup. Thanks! 👋🏾 from Maryland, US.
Thank you for the nice, simple recipe. Found a 400 g can of mackerel in tomato sauce and wondered how a Jamaican would spice it up. 😆 I always eat canned sardines with the bones, too.
Wonderful, simple recipe. I love it! Bones left in, ketchup and dice tomato added, over white rice. I put a tsp of ginger/garlic paste too. Thank you so much!
I made this receipe but i swapped the mackerel for Piltrads instead and also added diced carrots and it was delicous !! I made rice and boil dumplins to accompany it x
going to make this tonight! i wish the bones didn't bother me but i take them out... but they are very healthy! natural collagen supplemennt! my grandmother ate the bones and chicken feet all that americans shy away from haha she stay healthy beautiful skin looking young til 98
Grew up with great and grandparents who were of Cajun descent and it was a staple in my household. They always purchased the regular. Hum Hum good better than Salmon to me.
The bones are the best part! Very interesting recipe, I'm making this tomorrow. What would this dish be called in Jamaica? I live in the US, but canned mackerel is my favorite fish by far! This seems very similar to a Hawian, Pupu recipe... Don't you think it is?
I’m Jamaican 48yrs old and never had this before, yesterday I was like i’m gonna try it and see what’s the hype ,,so ofcourse I came to look best way it’s prepared….Dont Judge me😫
Hi thank you for the video. I am new at cooking so i struggle with timing and heat, do you have a full recipe guide for example maybe written on a website? That explains for how long you cook at each phase and at what heat
Hi! Thanks for watching. I do not have a written recipe for this yet but hopefully the points below will help ⬇️ "Saute": Cook quickly in fat over medium heat. As you can see in the video, they weren't cooked till brown. "Once everything is smelling nice" : Once the sauteed ingredients are fragrant. "Simmer for few minutes": Heat just below boiling point for under 10 minutes.
Hi! Thanks for asking! To find any recipes/tutorials enter "Jerene's Eats + the name of the dish" in the UA-cam search bar. In this case, "Jerene's Eats Bakes"
Super, thank you. With tinned sardines, I open each one and have to take out this lump like liver or something. I don’t eat that. Am I doing the right thing? x
For those of you who don't like the bones; in Ontario, Canada, you can find skinless, boneless mackerel and sardines. Recently found the "Sabor do Mar" brand brought back the mackerel. It also offers sardines. I discovered them over 14 years ago. When I can't find Sabaor do Mar, I buy Millionaires brand. Millionaires offer Sardines in water and oil. Can find in No Frills and Superstore.
@JerenesEats Hi. Yes, I do. I also like the size of the fish in the can. I remebered having mackerel as a child and didn't like the bones or skin. It turned my stomach. I was very happy to find the Sabor brand. Never turned back, and I haven't missed skin or bones. You'll enjoy them.

I’ve never tried mackerel like this…. I have made the mackerel stew in the past, very Jamaican spicy, too… I am gonna do this now!
Lavvit! You could add more ketchup some vinegar and sweet and sour it.

I prepare the tin mackerel or sardines exactly as you do with bones in. With either white rice or pasta. And sometimes boiled dumplings 😋
Grew up with great and grandparents who were of Cajun descent and it was a staple in my household. They always purchased the regular. Hum Hum good better than Salmon to me.
😃
Very nicely done
Thanks!
@@JerenesEats I'm literally going to the supermarket to get my ingredients!!

I'm not familiar with that Hawaiian dish. Yes I love the bones! We just call it "tin mackerel" or "cook up tin mackerel" 😁
Going to have to try this

Isn’t bake Trini?
@TG-tv8um I think they're a part of Guyanese and Trini Cuisine. Not a part of Jamaican cuisine BUT definitely enjoyed by Jamaicans

That might just be eggs. It's a preference thing 😁 Some people like roe and some don't
Okay super thank you for replying x
yes i remove the bones from the mackerel
Ohhh, I add a big blast of ketchup and some fresh tomato.
Riiiiight? It just makes it better lol
Bones are good for calcium so EAT the bones. They are soft as canned - no risk to health!!
I love them

Do you like the flavour of those? For some reason I don't enjoy them as much as the ones with the bones and skin

The oil you use in your recipes is as clear as water. Oils I use hasvea yellowish tint. What oil do you use???
I use peanut oil, Vegetable oil, canola oil and sometimes olive oil
I do open, take the belly and use take it the sauce it comes it. I use everything else you used.
Love ❤️ this & yes I remove bones 4 me Cats 🐈
When do you add the tomatoes
Add them right after the onion. I don't use tomatoes all the time since the sauce is already a rich tomato sauce 😁
