Great video, I'm a huge proponent of canned fish such as mackerel, so much nutrition and flavor in a small package, plus none of the contaminants found in larger fish due to their place on the food chain. Its a win-win for those of us who love tasty and nutritious food.

I'm very glad I found your channel, sir. I personally have always loved sardines and other canned fish, so I'm definitely gonna be putting these ingredients on my grocery list and give it a whirl. And thank's for those couple of great little tricks you showed, very informative. And you've got character too!

Add mustard for more flavor. You can also do this with sardines or a combination with tuna as sardines and mackerel will add more flavor than just tuna alone.

Thank you for posting. I eat fish twice a week for breakfast. One week sardines the other mackerel. Going to make the sandwiches for lunch one day. Sorry to say that I am the only fish eater in the household. I buy my canned fish at the dollar store.

I agree, Mackerel is delicious. I also add diced apple and grated hard cheese; and some times grated boiled eggs. Same with tuna and sardines.

I love it - a great fish. Up northeast they are very popular with the Caribbean immigrants, and the older Italian and Greek folks, so they aren't less expensive than tuna here. A little lemon juice is a good accompaniment in addition to the onion & mayo. Thanks - an under appreciated fish for sure.

I love the canned mackerel, although it is no longer inexpensive, cheaper than salmon for sure, but up to $2.99 now. Makes a lovely fish croquette with egg and breadcrumbs added.

Supposedly, the smaller the fish, the less heavy metals it has in its system. So these chub mackerels might be healthier for you then tuna fish.

You're right. The small fish are lower on the food chain and contain little mercury. Sardines and mackerel are superfoods.

Chub Mackerel has several times more healthy omega-3s per serving than sardines have.

I actually did try this and it is fantastic! I felt like everyone was watching me when I bought the can of chub mackerel. I ate those bones all by themselves and yes, they were good too. I bet there was a bunch of calcium in those. Probably really good for you. I am going back to the store to buy a bunch of that mackerel now.

When I was young I always asked my mom to not smash the bones.
I have only had fried Mackerel patties with mustard on a sandwich.
Going to try this way now.

If you put the brine in a tuna can or similar and leave it outside it will attract yellowjackets, and they for some reason, will drown. Don't do this close to your house or you'll have to go through a little cloud of them. It might work with tuna brine, I don't know.

I think it depends on the company doing the canning. Also the luck of the draw to some extent.
Some companies put in more fish. And there is always some variance from can to can, even with the same company.
Bumble Bee Chub Mackerel is good. I just ordered a case online. Free delivery. Almost the same as the dollar store price, but delivered.
